I was very pleasantly surprised yesterday with the experience I had with Public Storage on Walker St. in Ventura, CA. It began with the deal Public Storage offers on their website to you if you commit online to a unit. They take 15% off your monthly rent for as long as you keep the unit, if you sign up online instead of waiting until you go to the facility. It is so much easier to do it that way, besides all the money you save! After you get there and check the unit out to make sure you like it, all you have to do is initial a few spots, sign and you are all done. Irene in the front office is amazing. She is super sweet, and has every answer to any question you can come up with regarding your new storage unit. She even bypassed some of her scheduled lunch time to make sure I was completely happy, and all bases were covered. She is smart and pleasant. I feel my things will be well guarded with Irene in charge. The rates were much less than I expected, even with the purchase of mandatory insurance, which is a monthly fee of a minimum of $9.00 up to $24.00 a month depending on the value of your possessions. I think mandatory insurance is a fantastic idea, as I have been a victim of theft and vandalism at a previous storage facility in Ventura, only to find out after the crime was committed that I was not covered by any insurance, which I believed was included in the monthly fees. The unit is easily accessible and they are open every single day until 9 pm. I am very happy with my choice! read more

Received a surprise $65 increase in my monthly bill when autopay went through. No letter in advance letting me know of a rate increase. No email. No phone call. When I authorize an autopay, it's for the amount I EXPECT. This is an unacceptable business practice but I guess they think they can get away with it because of the high switching cost to go somewhere else. Oh and did I mention the rodent infestation? Yeah that's been fun to deal with. Mouse crap everywhere and the critters chew up your belongings as well. I strongly advise you seek a storage unit elsewhere. read more

I usually use public storage in Santa Barbara but had to use Ventura as there were no available units in Santa Barbara. Employees were friendly, it was much more affordable and the interior of the storage unit itself was lined and appeared to be much newer than the SB locations. After 2 months of using my unit, I visited only to find that rats were able to gain access and everything was covered in rat feces, urine and items had been destroyed. The insurance they sell when you rent your unit only covers $250.00 in damages due to rodents. Although the employee was sympathetic and seemed very surprised to see the damage that occurred over 2 months, my items are ruined and what isn't, needs to be thoroughly steam cleaned. I'm both very disappointed and disgusted. I did notice rat traps outside the units but assumed the actual units would be rat free. I have not had this issue in Santa Barbara so not sure what the difference is, but no rats is a no brainer for me. I immediately canceled my rental unit and will not store here again. Just beware and store items you don't mind rats enjoying. read more

Found this location via the toll free number as I needed storage for my college student. Setting up an account online was quick and simple. When I arrived at the location, I was greeted by Irene. She explained the process, answered additional questions I had, and helped me locate the unit. I was able to schedule check out online 3 months later without any issues and when I arrived at the facility, everything was as expected. read more

We've all heard the saying that "gratitude is a virtue", right? Well, I'm grateful that our housing, food, and so many other expenses haven't increased as dramatically as has the cost of renting a Public Storage 5'x10' storage unit. Our space of 7 years has risen in price from $66 to $145 per month, a 120% increase. I thought that California gas prices might be equally as inflationary, but Google informs me that's not the case. When it comes to year over year price increases, it seems that Public Storage has a profitable plan. Fun fact: Since 2010, the stock price has increased from approximately $50 to $250 per share. read more

The facility itself is ok. The company however, is not. Public Storage will bring you in at a low rate, but because you have to sign a contract stating they can raise your rates at anytime, corporate will take full advantage of that. My rates climbed over 76% in 9 months. I'm now paying $159 dollars a month MORE than 9 months ago and will be looking for an alternative, more customer service oriented company to do business with. Again, nothing against the owners of this location as they state they have no control over corporate's rate orders? Would recommend using another storage facility and stay away from Public Storage. read more

When I called for a storage spot I told the employee I was on my way . when I arrived I was greeted by a rushed, stressful and badmouth kids telling me I showed up to late. This is not how you greet a potential customer. I asked him if there was a light in the storage and he said yes , let's talk about that. This place is terrible I have a 30 foot storage unit now with one lightbulb and I can't see anything in it. the staff won't help me out at all. If you decide to store anything at this place make sure your stuff is secure because the walls aren't very thick and there is many openings at the top. No lights so bring a flashlight. Especially for all the ants and spiders. Now we have to talk about the insect problems and spiders and ants that they don't do anything about. I have motorcycles in my storage there is no reason for ants roaches and spiders to be in here they should be spraying the whole place. The employees don't care. The employees are rude and pretend to listen to you and do that thing saying I know I know I know when you talk to them . I guess what do they care , they just work here right?? I would strongly recommend staying away. Other storage tenants will always block you in and nobody does anything about it . Very inconvenient to have your unit blocked the one time a month you stop by. The employees being miserable doesn't help and they don't enjoy their job at all . read more

Danny is outstanding! He helped me big time in securing a 5x5 unit close by by 10x5 unit so I can transition from a big to a small unit seamlessly. Danny understood what I needed, he remembered me and let me know as soon as a nearby unit was available. He went above and beyond duty to assist me in getting this unit close by which will save me from lifting heavy boxes and hauling them far away. Highly recommend this PS Storage facility and high marks on customer service for Danny who is very friendly and very thoughtful. Can't praise him enough. read more

I've never been more scammed and deceived then by U Hall. A 29.99 daily use to a over a 200.97 bill charged to my credit card. Bring an attorney if you want to rent from U Hall. Also have a smart phone and download an app to return your vehicle. Also bring someone who's is very computer savvy. App is very difficult especially for elderly customers. Taking advantage of customers who are Not computer savvy. Charging customers, especially elderly customers with over Charging them, then trying to ask for explanation of over charges. This location has attempted to defraud me twice now. The first time, I rented my space and showed up on move in day. I was unable to get in as instructed and the office was closed even though it was supposed to be open. I went the next day and the day after and still the office was closed with no explanation. When I finally went to an open office, I said I wanted to be refunded for the three days I was unable to access my unit. He said it was a monthly charge and it wouldn't make a difference and gave some long excuse and then what do you know, the next billing cycle I have three prorated days billed on there. Now, I logged in and made my last monthly payment on their app on Monday. Today I woke up to an email with a late fee and noticed they never processed the payment. Today, I called and a very rude woman named Irene refused to remove the late charge. She tried to lie to me and give me a customer service number when I asked for her supervisor's number. I've wasted probably an hour today trying to remove a $22 charge but I'll waste a lot more because these people are criminals. Public Storage customer service has been a joke to navigate too, apparently I have to wait 24-48 hours to even speak to someone that has the authority to remove the charge. read more

This is a clean, secure storage facility with friendly, helpful, professional staff. You provide your own lock and can use your own insurance coverage (I use AAA, very inexpensive to add coverage for stored items, and for more than the $5000 limit for the insurance PS offers). Lots of units available. Hours are somewhat restricted (6a - 6p M-F, 6a - 5p Sat & Sun) I don't particularly like having to get out of my vehicle to put in the gate code for both entering and leaving, but that's only a minor annoyance. This probably one of the best storage locations I have dealt with. Due to my job I relocate quite often so therefor I always end up using temp. Storage I came across PS due to a TV commercial. I yelped it and found this one on Walker which is near by and right of the 101. I called it and Irene was able to find me a unit i came in the next day and everything was a done deal. I have used Public Storage on and off for years - usually the one on McGrath but they did not have the drive space size that I needed this time, so I was lucky enough to find Irene at the Public Storage on Walker, who was incredibly helpful, getting me a bigger unit for a lower place and offering me a great deal on boxes, which I will pick up later. It is a smaller self-storage locale than McGrath, but all the units are drive-up, which is much easier than the indoor units at other sites. Terrific service and easy access! read more

I like this location because of its U-shape and all one floor access HOWEVER don't be fooled by the bait-and switch tactics. For those who don't already know this: it is illegal to force you to insure through either their own insurer OR even carry your own insurance (read the fine print) AND you do NOT have to purchase a lock from them. So if you're wondering why the $1 "moves you in" becomes $60 or more, there you have it. Clearly the too-nice employees are incentivized or rewarded to con you into these practices and imply that you can't rent if you don't but it's a scam. Know your rights and save yourself some $$$. FYI, same tactics are used at ALL Public Storage facilities. They should brace themselves for a class action lawsuit. read more

I went to another storage facility close by. The manager was nuts! I went here and the customer service was wonderful! It was quick and easy and the property manager was delightful. We had a nice conversation. I am so happy the other facility did not work out. The location is odd, but it is well worth it to have such good people to work with. Thank you! read more

The place is clean, and the hours aren't bad, although as a student it would be nice if the place was open later or earlier. I get about two to three hours outside of class to access my storage unit, which isn't a lot when your moving from a town a half hour away. I also don't like how they make you buy insurance, although if you are covered by your renter's or homeowner's insurance and can provide documentation they will waive that fee. Just know you are looking at an extra ten bucks a month for that. I really can't complain though, it meets all my needs and is one of the cheapest storage places in the county. read more

I put my house for sale and I had to get rid of some of my junk so I can have a presentable house for potential buyers my realtor recommended this storage place, I went online and saw the reviews. Rented a couple of units at this site and had a guy named Keith help me when I arrived to take the units. I had simply reserved them online about a week earlier which was quick and simple. I got a follow up call from the manager Irene and she was friendly and answered my questions. Keith was professional and knowledgeable and had me set up to go quickly when I arrived. He first walked me through the units and then went through the paperwork explaining everything along the way and made me feel very comfortable. I'm very disappointed with Public Storage I had made a reservation and was interested because of the ad that advertised $1 month rent first month. So as I made the reservation and went from a dollar back to $51 because of a $24 charge and then I was told that they don't offer the dollar a month rent for a unit of my size where doesn't say that in the ad. So I was still going to take the unit anyways $55 is reasonable. so after I filled out all the paper work from a tablet they had given me the keys to the unit and then right before payment while I already had the money out they throw in there will be an additional fee from one of these Insurance packages that I did not want.. and these packages was mandatory the cheapest one was $15 making my storage unit $68. I do not like trying to be tricked or scammed and public storage that was very sleazy on your behalf.. public storage I'm sure you have done this to many people giving them the key and when you give them that insurance they feel pressured and obligated to say yes. I hope people will read this before they go to public storage. read more

I have been renting at the Walker Street location for a year now. I am rating my experience five stars for five reasons. 1. The location is fantastic. This complex is conveniently located right off Highway 101 and is within 10 minutes from any location in Ventura. 2. The the complex is safe and secure. I have never had any issues, the tennants are respectful and there have been no issues or concerns in this area. 3. The size. The complex is small and not maze like or vertical. It is very easy to load and unload into the single floor, mostly car accessible lockers. 4. The price. The prices are competitive and average for the area. But the free first month and aforementioned reasons make it more than worth the price. 5 the staff. The staff Irene and Joey are amazing. They are very personable, communicative and are extremely helpful and accomidating when I have any questions or concerns. There are plenty of choices for storage in Ventura yet compared to all the other places this one is the best bang for your buck hands down. read more
