    I have rented three previous units at the McGrath PS, but the last experience several years ago was so bad I swore never again. Recently I needed a storage unit and thought I would give them another try. Big mistake. I reserved the perfect size and location online and went the same day to inspect it and rent it. Mark was very nice and helpful. Too helpful it turned out because I told him yes, I wanted to rent it. But instead of going directly to the office to finish the order, he wanted to be helpful and sprayWD-40 on the rails of the rollup door for me. He then decided to show me another unit inside even though I wanted the one drive-up I reserved. After about 20 minutes we were finally in the office and he says the unit is gone. I was like what?! In the time he was wasting, someone had stolen my RESERVED unit out from under me online paying for the unit that was supposed to be mine. They have a LOT of questionable business practices, but this took the cake imo. I knew from experience to never pay for a unit without inspecting it. More on that later. Mark called his supervisor and explained the situation and they SHOULD have given me the unit I reserved and told the other person it was already taken. Instead they wasted MY time (I'm disabled and he had me walking all over the lot because their golf cart was broken apparently.) I was THERE and had waited to rent it and they refused to give it to me. Had Mark listened to me and gone straight back to the office, I would have the unit. I said before never again and this is why. PS has no integrity and they do not do the right thing by their customers. I was so frustrated and in disbelief I was in tears when I left. Fast-forwatd a week. I found a different unit online for what seemed to be a good price in the same location as the one that was stolen out from under me. It was advertised as 9x10 foot drive-up. I had seen the one before and while it did not look like a 9x10 I had noticed before, I not only reserved this one, I paid for it including the $29 "admin fee" so nobody could steal it in the meantime before inspecting it. Another mistake. When I went to inspect it I could tell it was nowhere near 9x10' so I measured it and sure enough it was only 7' something by almost 10'. About 10 square feet SMALLER than PS advertised and than what I paid for. I told Michael, who was also nice and helpful, that that would not work and I wanted a refund including the $29 because it was false advertising and I would not have rented and paid for it had I known. They refunded the first month but refused to refund the $29. I requested to speak to the regional manager or whoever was above Michael who could approve the refund and to discuss falsely advertising the size of units. They use the excuse if "it is an approximation.". Nope 10 square foot-smaller is not an approximation mistake when they actually know the exact measurements of specific units. Not cool. I called twice about it, no return call as of this review. Fast-forward again, I asked if they had a larger unit drive-up. They did. The location was excellent and the first month was about $100 off the regular rate (yeah, right until they jack it up the next month). I will upload images of what this Public Storage location thinks is quality storage units. Disgusting. Every unit I was shown EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE that they refused to rent to me after I reserved it and it was supposed to be held for me,was disgusting. Dirty,smelly, 110 degrees or more inside, chemical or oil stains all over the floors, walls filthy, sharp dangerous screws protruding all along the wall, used flat rat poison pouch, mud INSIDE in the corners, the bottom of roll-up door weather stripping MISSING so that rodents and other insects, water, dirt, dust etc can easily get INSIDE THE UNIT. The latch on the door was rusted and corroded. Easy to break off or into. Most of the rollup doors are old and rusty and dirty and very difficult to pull up. See photos. For the high rent they charge, the units should be like new and clean imo. The last time I rented a unit there, rats ruined my boxes and clothes and they had some kind of water sprinkler malfunction that I was never notified about and when I went to check my unit, my computer equipment was ruined with water and myfurniture was wet and covered with mildew and mold. I got out as soon as I could and swore never again. That's just unacceptable. And they raised that unit rent about 60% in less than a year. That's what they do. Every couple of months. One guy had his unit rent raised three times in 8 months. I found other storage with a 15% discount and the price is locked in for TWO years. No rent increases and it is less than the same size unit at PS. PS is a greedy and bordering on corrupt company imo. There are much better options. And they do not give discounts for seniors, disabled, military or even employees. Too bad they've gone so downhill. Look elsewhere. Only positive:the employees are nice

    The property manager is almost never there. If you need help, or want to speak to a human, good luck. There's almost never anyone there.

Movers showed…read moreup at 8:00 and as we started going in to the unit, it was discovered that RATS had gotten in to the unit and most everything that wasn't metal, glass or plastic was covered in MOLD! I called the office around 8:30 AM and left two messages, one about the MOLD and the other about the RATS. Office opened up a 9:00 AM so I expected someone to at least call or show up at the unit. Left around 10:00 with no word from anyone. When your paying movers $150 an hour I wasn't about to go hunt down their employees. Went back to the facility at 1:30 to check out. A woman was there at the office and I explained about the MOLD and RATS. She didn't seem to really care and said my belongings weren't wrapped, which everything was, but I explained the RATS ate through it. Mattresses were covered in RAT droppings and stained with RAT urine as well as other items. Not to mention everything was covered in MOLD. Leather couches, chairs, even wood furniture was covered in MOLD. I offered to show pictures of the damages and was told, "No, I believe you." Her look alone finished the rest of her sentence blaring "But I don't give a shit." So, here I am with a house full of furniture with MOLD and mattresses stained with RAT urine. I'll be making an insurance claim this week and hopefully they will either settle or sue the facility for their negligence in rodent control. The MOLD is another issue as they are close to the ocean and there's a lot of moisture. I have 1 other storage unit on Market street and so does a family member. Never had these issues there in over 5 years of storage rentals. Two years of paying for a storage unit only to find nearly a 1/3 of the contents ruined and now a mess to deal with my insurance carrier. I wouldn't have been as nearly upset as I am now if the facility's management had even acted like they gave a damn. They didn't even have to take fault for it and could have just said "I'm sorry this has happened." Don't trust your valuables here and make sure you have insurance!

In the beginning a clerk led folks to believe would-be-clients that she was the owner-- friendly to get your business, but then she was too busy to be considerate once you were a client. When she disappeared, her staff that took over were arrogant and treated clients like their storage was company property and spent much time and talk on the burden of evicting and cleaning up after customers. There was a sense that things were out of control. Then one day this young woman was at the front desk. Her name is Dominque. She greets every one with a pleasant demeanor and patience when having to multi-task. She seems to put herself in the shoes of the clients and has forethought of what they might need and offers them options and on top of that she helps them break down what would be most cost effective for them. Then on top of that her efficiency with the paper work and computer system is seamless and makes me feel at ease and confident about how the whole place operates now. For example her staff came up with solutions how to keep the restrooms clean and vagrant free. She has been there for many upgrades. She makes sure clients are happy and informed. I have moved several times far away and am comforted that my precious items are secured and that if the staff needs to reach me for any reason they call or email me. That is so important when one is far away. Customer service is something I pay much attention to where ever I go. I have told her, she is the best. I am grateful for her lead because it is evident in that all the staff has a positive vibe now. God bless them.

Kevin as the location manager cares about the facility and taking care of customers and so the company and location and its customers are very fortunate to have someone who cares and has excellent customer service, I've had several nice conversations with him. I also had the fortune of having a conversation with Vance from another location and helping out Camarillo wirh its staffing needs, he was very nice and very helpful with information and so on . The security was decent, there was plenty of space, and the temperature was controlled to a comfortable level. It was worth the slight premium. It was a bit annoying that access wasn't 24/7 considering how much we paid, but I could overlook that. Then, prices started increasing every few months. I understand that the entire industry does this, but it seemed excessive. Then, they began construction on the second floor. The noise, dust, and inconvenience were bothersome, and there was no compensation. Thankfully, I wasn't forced to move on my own dime like others. One day, I came to start unpacking and noticed a section of our belongings that had water damage. Initially, I thought it was caused by a leaking pipe, but upon closer inspection, water was flowing down from the second floor, rolling along the I beams and dripping onto our stuff for who knows how long and how much. All attempts to resolve the issue ended with the company stating that since I didn't use their insurance, they couldn't offer any compensation, replacement, or rental refund. This seems unreasonable and goes beyond the terms of the contract that absolves them from liability. Either the roof, second floor, or both were not properly constructed, allowing water to flow along the I beams. You can see rusted water drop marks on multiple I beams. These beams are completely exposed and there's nothing installed to protect the storage units from water or debris from the second floor. Since they were aware of the issue from the review I mentioned earlier and didn't take any action, it appears to be gross negligence. I also highly doubt that they would even consider addressing the real issue and refunding partial rent if we had their insurance. Regardless of whether we have insurance or not, the website guaranteed dryness and a storage satisfaction guarantee. If you decide to stay here, make it a short stay, cover your belongings completely, and request a different unit if you have any beams or pipes above your unit. And pray that nothing else goes wrong.

There are much better facilities in Ventura with cheaper rates. I found one when this company failed me. I am a single mom. I have very limited free time during covid when my kid isn't in school now. I reserved a unit. Packed my truck. Arrived to do paperwork... employee was pleasant... signed the paper that said unit was acceptable without being offered to view the unit in question.. proceeded like a fool cause I just wanted to get things done. Moved 400 lbs of stuff into unit only to discover that DOOR LOCK IS HELD ON WITH THREE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS. All hardware for this unit is exposed. You can take your pick with how you would easily like to remove the door. You might as well lock it with a piece of string. It would take me 60 seconds with a screwdriver to see what any of my neighbors have in their unit. Unacceptable when I pay a company to protect my things. I have had many storage units and none of them have ever had exposed hardware. When I brought this up with employee he argued that my point wasn't valid, that no one else has complained about that, and told me there was absolutely nothing he could do for me except refund my money same day (he did offer to help me move my things out which was kind enough but only more frustrating at that point) He didn't offer me a more secure unit .. he didn't make me feel like my complaint was valid. He gave me the number for corporate. This was their problem not his. I called corporate immediately. I got ahold of a woman named Dawnya who listened and sympathized but didn't help. She told me she was on vacation and calls were being routed to her phone. Awkward. I said please get in touch Monday morning with resolution. I heard nothing from her Monday. I emails Monday night .. I heard from her Tuesday afternoon. Offering only a free month at another location. Lame offer. Many locations offer free month. Total BS. Thanks for nothing but wasting my time Johnson storage. You made my single mom life even more stressful and we're basically unapologetic about it. I'll let the photos speak for themselves as to the lock security.
