BEWARE... DO NOT RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE. They are over priced. The units are dirty. And if you move out on the 1st of the month they will charge you for the whole month. Not only will they charge you for the whole month, but they will vacate your unit so basically you pay, but you don't have access anymore and they will rent your unit to someone else doubling up on their profit for the month. If you don't pay, they won't waste any time sending you to collections to ruin your credit. If you need storage, go to EXTRA SPACE STORAGE who have much better prices, and are fair. If you need to move out they will PRORATE your rent to the day. Not trying to take advantage of people and stealing their money. NEVER will rent from PUBLIC Storage again. I have rented three previous units at the McGrath PS, but the last experience several years ago was so bad I swore never again. Recently I needed a storage unit and thought I would give them another try. Big mistake. I reserved the perfect size and location online and went the same day to inspect it and rent it. Mark was very nice and helpful. Too helpful it turned out because I told him yes, I wanted to rent it. But instead of going directly to the office to finish the order, he wanted to be helpful and sprayWD-40 on the rails of the rollup door for me. He then decided to show me another unit inside even though I wanted the one drive-up I reserved. After about 20 minutes we were finally in the office and he says the unit is gone. I was like what?! In the time he was wasting, someone had stolen my RESERVED unit out from under me online paying for the unit that was supposed to be mine. They have a LOT of questionable business practices, but this took the cake imo. I knew from experience to never pay for a unit without inspecting it. More on that later. Mark called his supervisor and explained the situation and they SHOULD have given me the unit I reserved and told the other person it was already taken. Instead they wasted MY time (I'm disabled and he had me walking all over the lot because their golf cart was broken apparently.) I was THERE and had waited to rent it and they refused to give it to me. Had Mark listened to me and gone straight back to the office, I would have the unit. I said before never again and this is why. PS has no integrity and they do not do the right thing by their customers. I was so frustrated and in disbelief I was in tears when I left. Fast-forwatd a week. I found a different unit online for what seemed to be a good price in the same location as the one that was stolen out from under me. It was advertised as 9x10 foot drive-up. I had seen the one before and while it did not look like a 9x10 I had noticed before, I not only reserved this one, I paid for it including the $29 "admin fee" so nobody could steal it in the meantime before inspecting it. Another mistake. When I went to inspect it I could tell it was nowhere near 9x10' so I measured it and sure enough it was only 7' something by almost 10'. About 10 square feet SMALLER than PS advertised and than what I paid for. I told Michael, who was also nice and helpful, that that would not work and I wanted a refund including the $29 because it was false advertising and I would not have rented and paid for it had I known. They refunded the first month but refused to refund the $29. I requested to speak to the regional manager or whoever was above Michael who could approve the refund and to discuss falsely advertising the size of units. They use the excuse if "it is an approximation.". Nope 10 square foot-smaller is not an approximation mistake when they actually know the exact measurements of specific units. Not cool. I called twice about it, no return call as of this review. Fast-forward again, I asked if they had a larger unit drive-up. They did. The location was excellent and the first month was about $100 off the regular rate (yeah, right until they jack it up the next month). I will upload images of what this Public Storage location thinks is quality storage units. Disgusting. Every unit I was shown EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE that they refused to rent to me after I reserved it and it was supposed to be held for me,was disgusting. Dirty,smelly, 110 degrees or more inside, chemical or oil stains all over the floors, walls filthy, sharp dangerous screws protruding all along the wall, used flat rat poison pouch, mud INSIDE in the corners, the bottom of roll-up door weather stripping MISSING so that rodents and other insects, water, dirt, dust etc can easily get INSIDE THE UNIT. The latch on the door was rusted and corroded. Easy to break off or into. Most of the rollup doors are old and rusty and dirty and very difficult to pull up. See photos. For the high rent they charge, the units should be like new and clean imo. The last time I rented a unit there, rats ruined my boxes and clothes and they had some kind of water sprinkler malfunction that I was never notified about and when I went to check my unit, my computer equipment was ruined with water and myfurniture was wet and covered with mildew and mold. I got out as soon as I could and swore never again. That's just unacceptable. And they raised that unit rent about 60% in less than a year. That's what they do. Every couple of months. One guy had his unit rent raised three times in 8 months. I found other storage with a 15% discount and the price is locked in for TWO years. No rent increases and it is less than the same size unit at PS. PS is a greedy and bordering on corrupt company imo. There are much better options. And they do not give discounts for seniors, disabled, military or even employees. Too bad they've gone so downhill. Look elsewhere. Only positive:the employees are nice read more

Danny is awful. He would not help me easily transfer my "assigned" unit to a building with an elevator to accommodate my disability. Instead, he wanted to charge me double for a unit transfer when the original unit was advertised as having an elevator. This is false advertising and violates the Americans with Disabilites Act. Danny does not have integrity and does not exhibit compassion. Therefore, his "customer service" is extremely poor. He also lied to me about the insurance opt out protocols and also lied to me about available units. Steer clear of Danny. read more

The worst storage experience in my life. They charged my credit card twice - their fault. I can't get them on the hold for them to fix this. I guess I'll have to drive my car in the rain, since they won't answer their phone, or even return calls. There was a huge mix up on storge spaces, because of a new young man they had hired and HAD NOT TRAINED correctly. He was not only not of help, but made my situation 100 worse. Stacyi, the incompetent girl that works down there won't answer the phone, or return calls. When I politely asked when I wouldn't be refunded, and that she had nothing more to say about it, HUNG UP on me. Again, I was polite. PLEASE READ THE CRAP REVIEWS before you rent a space here. This has been the worst storage experience I've ever had. This is my fifth storage and I could've never imagined it could be this bad. I will start with the monthly fee. After four months my fee was raised from $260 to $320 without any notice. This storage isn't worth $320 but they know it's a hassle to move your things after you're already in so they have you trapped. What's worse than the unexplained price gouging is the fact that there have been several infestations in the storage. There have been an excessive amount of spiders, crickets, ants, termites and gnats. The gnats came when there was water leaking into my storage over several weeks. It's been like the plagues in Egypt at this storage. There would be fifty to sixty crickets jumping out at me when I opened my storage every week. I notified the staff and they have been very kind, but from week to week, the insects have been consistent. I bought my own commercial grade spray to use and that has helped but I have to go to the storage and spray every single week to keep the pests at bay. In all my years of having storages, I've never seen one insect, pest, or rodent until now. Thankfully, all of my things are sealed tight, but it's unnerving to open my storage and have things jump out at me. Needless to say, this has been an awful experience. Unfortunately I live in an area where there aren't any storages available in the size that I need so I'm stuck here for now. This has been a hard learned lesson. I'll read reviews in the future and do my research before I give a storage company my business. read more

So far, I am pleased. Did my entire reservation online, and clean storage unit and new lock were ready for me upon arrival. I selected Public Storage for two reasons, price and location. Their pricing was in the lower range, compared to other storage companies, for a 10x20 unit, and they're not located in a busy area, so ease of access is nice. I read reviews about price gouging with no warning on increased monthly rental fees. I am hoping that's not the case. If I do experience that, I will be sure to come back and update my review. read more

We're switching from another location and came here. Kayla helped us out such a nice girl she was able to get us a slightly bigger unit based off what we wanted to store and it ended up being just the right size . She was able to work with the type of access we wanted which was a drive up but they sold out so she got us an indoor unit close to the exit which was just as fine . We definetly had a better experience here on McGrath st than the Johnson location . read more

First timer using a storage facility to house my belongings after an unexpected move. Decided to use Public Storage because of all the positive reviews. Could have easily of gone to a closer storage facility, but the reviews were so awful I decided not to. Walked in on the afternoon before my move and was greeted by Suzy (I hope I got her name right). She was busy assisting another customer, yet she still acknowledged me with a friendly smile as she welcomed me to Public Storage and that she would be right with me. When my turn came, Suzy was very helpful, and friendly. She showed me what they had available in the price range, and storage size that best suited my needs. No pressure, and no up selling! Just honest and outstanding customer service. After making my decision, we walked over to the unit I would be occupying. The grounds looked clean, safe, and secure. As we walked over she thoroughly explained the rules of the facility as well as how to get in and out via codes. The whole experience was easy, and friendly. I don't know how this business has 4.5 stars. I left my last unit because of a steep increase of 80% over a year or so time (Condor Self Storage Ojai). When I came over to Public Storage 6 months ago I was assured by staff that there was an increase every year but it was not much, nothing like Condor. I guess by not much they mean a rent raise of 21% which I don't feel is a fair raise. I've only been there 6 months. And I didn't complain that there is absolutely no light in my unit. I'm in and out of my unit all the time and it is hard to see which is frustrating. I'm at a loss because i don't have a garage and I am forced to store my stuff somewhere. I do not recommend this place. I never will. read more

Worst experience at a storage facility. They did a lock check when I was loading things into my car, I even said hello to the inspector as I walked out of my unit.... When I left to my car they opened my closed unit's door and took an uninvited look in and saw I had a small 5lb CO2 container. After I left they gave me a call saying they locked me out of my unit and denied my access to the gate... They said that I need to come back to the office for an inspection of my unit because they are about to call the fire department. I was already heading down to LA, an hour in. I told him exactly what I had stored. He seemed to be upset that I had the small 5lb CO2 canister. By the way, CO2 is non-toxic and non-flammable liquid gas. Small canister, slightly larger than what goes into a paintball gun. I do homebrewing and I use it to carbonate my small kegs. I read their contract before storing my items and it states that you can't have hazardous material, but I truly don't believe that the CO2 was, especially in the way that their contract defines it. I explained this, but the District Manager who called me said even if that's so, in their contract there is a statement that says how pressurized containers are not authorized. But...This was a lie, I read it through very thoroughly and it doesn't say that anywhere. I can't find where I breached their contract, yet they treated me like a criminal. I just wish that they would make people know what they can and can't have stored. If it's not in your contract, how are we to know? Also don't lie and say that there are statements in the contract, and get me worried about it, that aren't true. I also wish the guy who looked into my unit would have just came and told me that I couldn't store a C02 canister rather than locking me out, reporting me, and threatening to get the city fire department involved... I really try to do my due-diligence and not step on anyone's toes, this kind of stuff really irks me. read more

Just signed the lease and moved into our unit today. The area was nice and easy to find, just drove down Telephone and turned left when we saw the sign for McGrath. Both Victoria and Adriana were very friendly. We ended up with an indoor 2nd floor 5x10 unit and Victoria was very nice when showing us around the property. Even though Adriana is currently a trainee she did a very good job with the tasks she was doing so I'm sure she'll be a great employee. I didn't want to give a 5 star review though because there were issues. I originally reserved a 7x8 unit on September 26th and got a confirmation call the next day letting me know they received my reservation and that it would be available on my scheduled move in date (Today, October 8th). Then yesterday I get a call telling me that they actually don't have any 7x8 units but they would have a 5x10 available for me. They also mentioned that there was a special for the 5x10 units and that I'd get the $1 rent special for my first full month. So I'd be getting a 5x10 and wouldn't pay the full rent price until December. Today when I went in I was told that I would owe the full amount plus insurance so $100 on November 1st. I'm just a bit confused because 1) what happened to the 7x8 unit I had reserved & confirmed and 2) what happened to the $1 deal I was originally offered. Also I think some signs would be useful. I got confused and lost a couple times while trying to figure out where my storage unit was and how to get to the lift. Victoria did show us but sense the way we came up was different than the way we went down it was weird trying to figure out how to back track a place I've never been in. I do like the property and it has the best reviews out of all the storage places I looked so unless something goes really wrong I think I'll stay at McGrath Public Storage. Hopefully I can straighten out the $1 thing over the phone. read more

I've been meaning to make this review for some time and today was the last straw. I've been a customer of theirs for years and they continuously treat me poorly each time I come into the office. The elevator doesn't even work to my upstairs unit. I had to carry an entire apartment's worth of belongings up the stairs when I moved in this last time. When I mentioned it to the office they just blew it off and wouldn't give me any kind of compensation on rent for the inconvenience. There have been a few times I've gone to my unit and have had sketchy people hanging around in their vehicles. It makes me super uncomfortable. However, the customer service of the folks that work there is less than satisfactory. No sense of compassion or understanding regardless of me attempting to be friendly. I get a sassy attitude from the girls there each time and today she locked me out of the office after I asked to use her restroom. It's a rough time as it is right now and typically people show a little more empathy. This could be a rant but I have literally been experiencing this same thing for 3 years now. I should probably find a family owned storage place next time and pay the extra $10/month. read more
