My hubby and I recently made the move from Thousand Oaks CA to Piru CA. My husband has owned the 5 + 3 2-story home since 2000 and I joined him & his 3 sons w/myself & my 2 girls in 2009. We successfully raised all 5 kids, shipped them off to college, and now they are spread out around California (except my oldest who lives in Brooklyn, for now). Needless to say, we had a lot of stuff! I'm handicapper & the hubby just turned 60 yrs old (in spite of looking and acting like a man 20 yrs youngerI &I insisted we hire movers. As it was, he packed the entire house up basically by himself (with a little help from me) we managed to fill up 2 entire trucks ( in spite of countless Goodwill runs and filling 2 dumpsters before the move!) The guys arrived at the designated time and loaded up the 2 trucks in an hour less time then quoted, with an inventory of what they took all made up & for my review at the end. We feel they gave us a totally fair quote and when our escrow got held up overnight, their holding fee was a fair one. In spite of changing our moving dates at least 5 or more times, Aaron was always calm and assuring to me each time that it was no problem and that it happened all the time! I really appreciated it too since we all know how stressful moving can be! The whole crew was awesome! Everything was so carefully wrapped and the six men working on the move were all very friendly, capable and strong young men that I cant say enough good things about, but thank you so much! Had to move yesterday, which went mostly smoothly. Except several of my brand new furniture got damaged. And there were issues with my bill when it came time to charge. The movers were great and nice. but I was pretty disappointed to see that my brand new dining table (which I told the main mover that it came apart into pieces and he said he got it) was still intact when brought into my new place, and only wrapped in a moving blanket, which then resulted in it being chipped in several places and the leaf in the middle to be damaged. My brand new coffee table is banged up and chipped and scratched in several places. My brand new dresser is also scratched. My white couch was covered in black stains, even though they asked me if I wanted them to saran wrap the couch before wrapping it in moving blankets I understand things can happen in a move and looking forward to seeing how meathead will rectify the situation. When it came time to pay my bill, the bill was higher than my quoted not to exceed price The mover handling my bill, Elias, then accidentally deleted the insurance that I previously agreed for with the salesperson Briana (valuation coverage up to 10k in damages) for to cover any possible damages on my furniture He called his boss in operations, Brian, and the boss told me to just go ahead and pay, and they would add my insurance tomorrow -I asked for that in writing and then Brian said that he would call me to pay at 9 AM this morning. It's now 4 PM on 8/26 and I haven't received a call. I called the meathead movers line and told them about The damages, they said they messaged operations and I should be receiving a call within the next 24 hours so that should be around tomorrow morning Will update then. They also unfortunately left behind one item that was on my inventory list - a cheerleading mat It was in plain sight and was moved into a different room when I got back Editing to update: I moved 8/25 , haven't gotten a call back and it's 8/27. HORRIFIC. I used this company 6/2024 and gave 5 star review on google. So, naturally I would use them again. After calling around and negotiating my price (on a recorded line) they tried to DOUBLE my price. Price gouging was just the cherry on top. I called in the middle of my move to complain (on a recorded line and asked for a call back twice with no call back). Yes, Karen move but I can assure you it was that bad. Movers started at wrong location and tried to start my clock at wrong location. Luckily I was at new location unloading when they pulled up and I had to explain that this is the final location. The night before, my friends and I loaded up two SUV's and one large truck to transport all the boxes. In an effort to save costs and minimize moving time. This left only furniture for movers: one couch, one dinner table and chair, two kid beds one king and two dressers. VERY MINIMAL. At the 3 hour mark they still hadn't loaded the truck. This is when I called Meathead because this crew was clearly struggling. They left furniture out front, pictures and mirrors on walls and various baskets of toys. Appalled I called driver and asked them to come back. It got worse but I'm sure you get the point. Ruined furniture, marked up walls etc and then tried to tell me I owe $2200 when I have a quote (recorded) for $1300 not to exceed $1700. Moral of the story, this used to be a great company but please SKIP THIS SERVICE. The workers couldn't explain anything when asked about pricing. And anyone who knows moving is a long day, and to be asked to give that amount, not to mention damage to my new rental that I will now have to fix and furniture that I can no longer use. We had a downsizing split and delayed move and the Meatheads cheerfully and expertly did it for us. They moved part of the stuff into the garage at the new home. They left all the pads and bands. They gave is credit back when the came back six months later to move the "stuff" into the new home. Even though they were a different crew they moved and expertly reassembled the big dining table and the motorized beds even though they weren't the ones that took them apart. My grandmother used them and they are worst than awful. If I could give a negative 5 I would, they stacked valuable paintings on top of each with no wrapping. They broke 2 valuable real wood tables. They stacked boxes on top of each that obviously didnt support the weight. They broke a mirror. They chipped 3 antique hutches. They ripped lamp shades with no wrap or even attempting to cover. No couches were wrapped. Save your money, I'd rather move everything myself than attempt to use them. read more

I was having coffee at a McDonalds and happen to see a "MeatHead" Moving truck in the parking lot and with a upcoming move I would need help making a local move. I called them and spoke with a Representative and we spoke and I ended up contracting with this moving company. While I was quoted more than my budget allowed I was assured that the estimate would be higher but when it's all said and done that estimate would end up lower than quoted, and it was. My wife thought we could do this move ourselves and we could call family and friends to help. I'm here to tell you this company came in at the designated time and per the contract they would be done in 5 hours and 45 minutes, they had a crew of 3 people and got the job done. We could not have done that ourselves! We are both Seniors and we really appreciated the 3 men that made this local move possible for us! Very organized quick and detail oriented. Highly recommend! - It actually really surprises me to see negative reviews with the comments they had because we had such a great experience. My office was moving from an upstairs unit down to a lower level office space...in a building with no elevator haha so to say we needed help moving, is an understatement. A majority of the items we needed help moving were large, very heavy, and bulky office desks and filing cabinets so it was a huge blessing that from the second the guys got there, they were nonstop moving and very productive. I really appreciated how accommodating and kindly willing the guys were when we started having a few extra requests and one of them being to help a friend load up one of the desks into her truck. We paid for a 3 hour min. and needed to be completely moved out the same day so obviously time was of the essence haha. The guys arrived on time, they all had excellent communication with us and amongst themselves while being delicate with our furniture. All four of them did an excellent job and we will definitely be using Meathead movers again in the future! My team was on time, communicative, and handled my stuff with care. They put covers on the floor to protect it, and wrapped all my furniture in blankets and plastic. I didn't even have to empty my dresser drawers. They also disassembled and reassembled my TV and bed frame. At the new place they put everything in as I directed so I had less to do on my own, including reinstalling book shelves. As long as your inventory is accurate at the time of the quote & you're prepared when they arrive, the price won't increase as I've seen in some other reviews. They said it would go up if I had a lot of extra furniture, needed packing help, etc. I did end up needing a few extra boxes to finish the kitchen while they moved the rest of the stuff and it didn't affect the price. Overall very satisfied and grateful for the help. It's certainly more expensive than doing it on your own or renting your own truck with movers to load/unload, but the price is worth it for convenience and peace of mind. read more

I used them previously when moving house, and again more recently when I needed a large furniture moved (they have a minimum fee for moving, but I was very impressed with their professionalism and preferred to stick with them; also, they were able to accommodate me on fairly short notice). They are on time, good about communicating, very neat, and conscientious. I also love their commitment to helping survivors of domestic violence -- they donate a certain number of hours per year to help individuals moving out of DV situations. On the most recent job, Ennave and Richard were great. All of their employees that I have worked with have been excellent. Cannot recommend highly enough. read more

MHM is not committed to customer satisfaction. I hired them to move a new refrigerator box and on a pallet direct from the mfg. I prefaced the move on them using a pallet jack due to the size and weight of the appliance. They assured me they would use a pallet jack and it would take an hour. They had a clause for charges beyond an hour. They did not use a pallet jack and if they had it would have taken them less than an hour..... instead 3 guys used a dolly and struggled with it for one and a half hours. When questioned they said MHM had no pallet jack contrary to what the sales person implied. Bait and switch. Do not use these guys!!! read more

My family and I did a move from Long Beach to San Luis Obispo so we worked with movers out of the Oxnard office. Coordinating ahead of time was made really easy ahead of time with our contact person, Noelle. She and Meathead took care of everything we needed for the full move and it was nice not having to coordinate with other companies. Overall, I found the movers to be really efficient, hard-working, and positive to work with. They made sure to move everything exactly where we needed it and were able to take apart and put together all of our furniture without issue. The only downside was that the overall communication on the days of the move was a little lacking. It's not enough where it takes it down a star for me, but our movers were late on both days. Totally understandable with traffic but we didn't get any updates on the first day. And then there was miscommunication with the SLO office so one mover arrived halfway through the day. And we weren't really updated much about that by the dispatch. Overall still, a great experience and I would recommend them. It just would have been nice to have more status updates on the day. read more

Movers were very slow and took so much time wrapping furniture pieces that don't even need to be wrapped. They charge $95 for every 15 minutes exceeded. We paid 2k+ despite the help from our friends who carried so much heavy stuff just to help the movers pickup the pace and for us not to be charged too much. We were still charged a lot! The movers even left moving blankets. We actually found movers for a much lower and fixed rate but when we tried to cancel, we were being charged $500 for cancellation fee! We emailed our complaints to at least give us a discount but they refused. Hiring them was a mistake. We felt like we were ripped off. I definitely do not recommend. read more

BEWARE!!!! they broke my tv, refused to refund it! the entire move the guys were slow, making excuses, and were having to be pushed. They dropped a box right in front of my sister. When it was time to review them, the main guy stood over me while I did it, even had me sign saying everything was fine and not broken, even though there was absolutist no time for me to even assess my belongings. I went with this company because of how much they boasted that they don't break things, and if they did they replace it. 100% do not go through them! Customer service pushed me aside and I wasn't even able to speak to a supervisor. I'm so beyond disappointed. Don't let this happen to you. UPDATE... had two other calls since this, no resolution, was told to send pictures, mysteriously they never received them even though it was the same number I sent my previous damage pictures to. They asked if there's anything they could do and I said yes you could replace my damaged items, the response to me was "it's a pretty lengthy process I'm not sure if you'd want to do that"...I ended it with, just leave me alone please. My family and I moved from Texas to California. We had originally signed up with movers from Uhaul's MovingHelp site. The movers I paid for never got back to me. I had to call for movers last minute. I ended up contacting Meathead Movers, and it was one of the best decisions of my life. The representative on the phone was kind and accommodating. She made sure to help me relax, and that everything would be taken care of when we got to our new destination. After driving for 3 days, going through rain, hail, and snow, we finally arrived. Meathead contacted us 15 minutes before their scheduled time. I paid for 3 movers, and it was worth it. Nice guys who helped and took care of our possessions. When we go to move again, we will be using Meathead movers. I'm also on Google reviews if you don't believe this review. If you value your furniture and expect the Meathead movers to respect you, your possessions, be courteous and on time, do not hire the Meatheads. Also, do not buy the insurance they offer because they do not honor it. I hired the Meatheads last year on December 5, 2022. They arrived late and threatened not to move me unless I agreed to pay more than what was quoted on my contract. Since the person who took my original order signed off on this I refused. Regarding the professionalism provided, no inventory was taken, nor were stickers applied to my furniture to verify accountability. Being careful was not in their employee job description. No flooring was covered. Regarding placement in the van, my nightstands were stacked on top of each other without the benefit of blankets. Furniture was thrown upside down on top of boxes and other furniture. I purchased covers for one queen mattress set yet that was also damaged. Once arriving at my new address, the Meatheads hurried as fast as they could to leave my furniture haphazardly in a pile in my dining room and garage. At least they placed my bedroom and living room furniture in approximate locations. All boxes were piled so high I couldn't reach them to unpack. Feeling frustrated and emotional throughout the day, I felt obligated to tip these two Meatheads. Don't! They will play you at the end of your ordeal making you think they did you a favor! read more

Sold me with big promises and then completely failed to deliver. I was promised 2 trucks and 10 movers and given an estimated price range and duration for the move based on those resources. On the day of the move, and with no notice, the company showed up with 5 movers and 1 truck. The movers complained all day about being short staffed and not having enough supplies. The move ended up taking 10+ hours, with the movers unloading the truck in the pitch dark using their phones as flashlights. When all was done, I ended up with nearly $2,000 in damaged items and the price charged far exceeded the estimate. 09/30/21: I had to book some movers on very short notice (like, next day notice), so needless to say, I was stressed. I had remembered seeing the Meathead Movers trucks on the freeway every now and then, so I looked them up and gave them a call. Very professional and affordable all around. The woman on the phone broke everything down, and made the booking easy. The guys that helped me move (Barnes and his partner) kept in contact during their drive down from Bakersfield and were prompt and friendly. Watch out for the bait and switch! They gouged the consumer who wants to help the student athletes. The bait and switch has to do with minimum and maximum. The minimum they quote you is only 3 Hours including drive time. Their quality control department just called me for the second time to talk. Not to do anything else but talk in circles. Please keep in mind I have never called them since I was taken advantage of. Yes, they have a quality control department. The quality control officer told me multiple times about the contract I signed. They treat it like a badge of honor. I'm sorry but contracts of that size and nature are only used to protect companies who extort others. I was told the minimum they quoted me would have to be completed within 3 hours. This was the first time anyone ever told me the minimum was three hours of work. Keep in mind my minimum was just under $700. Extortionists. The drive to and from my new home is about 2 hours so all work would have to of been completed with in one hour to stay within the minimum. I personally am not in the Moving industry but I have a rational brain and I know there is no way anyone would be able to move 20 items from one house to the next house with an hour drive in between within three hours. Oh yeah, 20 items. This is an obvious example of a "bait switch" and a misrepresentation of true cost. On top of that I speculate they probably only pay the college students $10-$15 an hour. At the end of the day all the quality control officer did was wave a contract in my face and waste about a half an hour of my day. This company is a sad example of branding themself as helping students, but the truth is they gouged the consumer and punish the kind people who want to help support student athletes with their deceitful business practices. Not small business friendly. Clean new units but really poor customer service and hard to get a direct call through. Do not plan to store your inventory here! Did a few Whatnot sales through a video chat on my phone this week out of my unit trying to make some space and was told not allowed after six days of doing so... imagine it's because another customer complained because I had the only available cart. Too few carts, dark no light in halls during days, recent change in front office staff is not for the better, office closed on weekends and during lunch each day, restrooms near units permanently locked, and prices keep going up. Used them to move. Twice now. The first time was several years ago. I liked the idea of supporting students. They did a great job...though I had a bookcase that broke (it fell as soon as the mover let go of it). Oddly enough, that is the reason why I hired them a second time! Accidents happen, but it is how a company responds to the accident that tells you how good they are. Immediately they acknowledged it was their fault. I was able to produce a receipt for the bookcase - they didn't flinch. They immediately paid for the cost of the bookcase so I could then replace it! It was literally no hassle whatsoever! I was shocked! When I ended up moving again, I didn't even look around. They were my only choice - and they didn't fail to disappoint. They gave me their low and high estimate. The move ended up taking way longer than I or the movers thought (it didn't finish til evening) BUT the movers were great about getting everything in - and they honored their high estimate (even though it took longer than everyone thought). This is a legit, honest company. While their prices are a bit higher than competitors, you truly get what you pay for. While I hope to not have to move again for a very long time, they are going to be the only ones I would call! read more

Hired them a 2nd time. WORSE service, took advantage of payment. moved with meathead in 2021, 0 issues, perfect job, paid an est $950 for the job of a 2+2 apartment moving 20-25 min away. Moving me from an upstairs until, to a bottom floor unit. Moved with them again in 2022, had all boxes at the front end of the garage & 90% of stuff in the living room to move. 2 kids showed up, updated my inventory, updated my quote by double & added 2 guys. Thinking this would be a quick job if there's more help..wrong. These guys talked, WALKED (when their slogan is they jog when they don't have things in their hand). It took them 4 hours to pack my stuff into their truck with 4 kids & all my stuff organized for them to take. They took 3.5 hours to move my stuff in to a 3 story townhome. I was floored when they charged me $2600 total. My "inventory" didn't increase by 260%, why did my total for my move go from $950 last year & $2600 this year..???? My move was on a non premium day which made my hourly rate about the same or slightly less than last year. & I was moving from a ground floor to a 3 story townhome. You would think they would take more time to unload than to load, but of course they were done by the time they were scheduled to get off at 6pm. They broke my power base bed frame & didn't say anything about it. They broke my cat tree and didn't say anything about it. They offered $230 off & to remove $91 because the "team captain" did his math wrong and over charged me by $91. They also left multiple boxes in the garage that said MASTER bedroom, LIVING ROOM or had my daughters name on them for her room. The laziness is embarrassing. DO NOT USE THEM. You're better off supporting a small business moving company who will charge you a flat rate and get the job done.
