UPDATE: Since my initial review, in which I wrote of the insults from the manager of West Fuqua for…read morepayment issues beyond my control, my wish to disassociate from having to do further business with them, her refusal to honor my request to offer a new contract in my relative's name (the true owner of the property for whom I'd co-signed long ago), and who said that we'd have to arrive in person to do that, even though the contract was mailed to me for MY signature, my dealings with West Fuqua only got much worse (with the exceptions noted below) before this ordeal finally came to an end. On November 27 I'd filed a complaint with the Better Business and made the Dec. payment, AFTER which I received a notice of lease termination and request to vacate from Linda Nunn. No reason was ever disclosed. Subsequently the BBB having received no response from West Fuqua told me I might have better luck on my own. So I found the name of someone listed online as co-owner of the facility, sent her a letter, and contacted her via Linkedin. She said she was no longer involved in day to day management and said it was owned by a corporation but couldn't tell me the name. She didn't acknowledge receipt of my letter. I made the January payment, and the due date to vacate came and went, as I did not wish to chance the multiple contacts, during the height of a pandemic, that going there to vacate the unit would've surely entailed. And in February I received no late rental notice. But to my complete surprise, On Feb 17, I received an email from a Norman Samuel who said he was the owner of the facility. He said the person I'd contacted via Linkedin had forwarded my letter to him. He offered to do what Ms. Nunn said couldn't be done, send a contract for my relative to sign, then later wrote that wouldn't occur because my relative has a mental disability. Not wishing any further involvement with them, I told him to dispose of the property. Then in a Mar. 8 email I learned that charges for rent plus late fees were still being assessed. When I asked why hadn't I received late notices, Mr. Samuel said because he told them not to send it. Objecting to those charges I asked that they not be assessed. That request was ignored. On Mar. 10 he did however offer to send my relative's personal items at his expense and did so. When I inquired about the accruing charges he suggested any charges above what the auction brought would be written off as a "bad debt." Not wanting to have "bad debt" or any other obligations to West Fuqua after auction, I sent a check to cover all charges even though I questioned some of them. He arranged to hold the auction in 2 weeks, and immediately sent me the proceeds from the auction (minus 10%). In closing, Mr. Samuel had asked that I consider adding a positive comment to my initial review, and so I have. I've added a star because, though my relative wasn't offered a contract due to his mental disability, and my requests to not be charged rental and late fees after the end date of the notice to vacate were ignored, he did send back personal items at his expense and arranged a timely auction and payment of the proceeds. However, overall, my ordeal with West Fuqua Self Storage has been such that I've come to deeply regret having ever gotten involved with them. As a whole, it clearly ranks among the worst decisions I've ever made.

They blame it on the system. I have had a boot put on my trailer after making my payments on time. They blame it on the system. I have a DJ business. Can you imagine being locked out and I have no access to my equipment. And I DJ for companies/corporations like Shell and Harris County....I have never received an apology. Just and attitude from the older woman who works there. I finally decided to be done with this storage and emptied my storage and removed my trailer from its location April 27, 2022 and I called them while sitting in the parking to let them know my 2 storage spots is available and I'm no longer there and the very next day on Friday April 28th they took an authorized payment of $420.82 from my account. That's nothing but the devil. I don't know who owns this place but this is not professional. I see why people are leaving. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. - CEDRIC DENNIS (Retired Army Veteran)

Some things I was not happy with were that the "climate control" was on the warm side. When I got my furniture out some of the off-white pieces had darkened and discolored, I assume from the heat and humidity. Also, some items with glue or adhesive were damaged. I don't know what temperature the building is supposed to be kept at, but it wasn't cool enough. When I rented my first unit there was a trash can in the lobby area where the elevator is, but eventually that disappeared. The dumpster is also inaccessible to customers. There is a restroom by one of the elevators, but every time I tried to use it, it was locked. If vagrants getting in the building and using the restroom is a problem, then why not require the doors to be opened by codes all the time, not just at night, or put a key code on the restroom door? That way paying customers are not inconvenienced too. I was driving about an hour to get to the storage business, so a restroom would have been very helpful after a long drive. Many times when I came to put something in or get something out of storage during the week, the same car was parked right in front of the doors to the elevator. I never saw anyone getting in or out of the car while I was there, so I can only assume it was an employee's car. There is not a shortage of parking, so why park in a spot that is going to cause an inconvenience to customers? If I ever need to rent a storage unit again I'm not so sure that I will go with Big Tex again. They are pricey for what you get.
