    There was a young girl named Amber I had never seen before working on Tuesday, and Ken. I was…read moretreated disrespectfully, and their actions that day did not embody CubeSmart's values of providing renowned customer service. I understand that we all have bad days and that some people are not naturally kind, but as a customer service representative, it is your duty--the responsibility you take on when hired--for your bad days, judgments, prejudices, and biases not to affect your customers. Amber approached me and spoke to me like I was a child and not her elder. She said, "Consider this your first warning." Imagine a young girl telling you an older adult this. When I ignored her disrespect, accepted the policy she gave, smiling and saying I don't mind, and tried sharing a thought I had about it, she became combative. She thought my calm, polite response was being defensive because I'm a Black woman. In reality, this was a racial bias in her head. I avoid confrontation and had already told her I didn't mind. Other employees had many occasions to share the policy with me but didn't and I was saddened that she was the one to relay it instead of someone pleasant. I was already having a whirlwind of a day. I was hot and dehydrated from spending hours organizing my storage unit because they have no air conditioning inside. But they would have never known because I believe what God says about being kind and maintain kindness with others despite difficulties. Amber's demeanor made the exhaustion I was already experiencing unbearable, and I shut down. Later on when I went to politely ask her questions, she had an "I'm only answering because it's my job" attitude. And again, I watched her become defensive with me when I was only kindly asking questions about my unit. She was truly perplexing. She had a strange tone, strange body language, and the strangest stare at me. They were closing in a few minutes so before I left I asked Amber if I could throw something away. She sent me to the bathroom knowing I would need her to open it for me. When I came back to tell her I needed one of them to let me inside the bathroom, she just finished locking the office door and ignored me as I tried to get her attention through the glass... like I was an animal. She did not look at me, she instead looked over at Ken and smiled and let out a laugh. Clearly happy to ignore me standing outside for help. Her and Ken both ignored me for some time. After she smiled with him, Ken looked up and gestured for me to drop the trash on the ground. Through the window I asked are you sure? I'd hate to drop it on the ground and he irritatingly looked at me and pointed down for me to drop it. No decency to speak directly with me, open the door, all through a window. Dehumanizing There is no excuse for this lack of respect, empathy, and behavior. In my past customer service jobs, I opened the door and helped customers or answered their questions despite having just closed the door. I treated them as humans. After Amber & Ken's treatment, I decided to move out of my unit the next day and go where I would be respected. It was strange for Amber to have such a policing attitude when no one has taken initiative to mop the hallway floors, which have never been cleaned. Basic responsibilities are neglected which made her focus on enforcing rules over improving customers' experiences extremely misplaced. Ironically, as I walked to the office to close out my account, I saw the policy she enforced on me the previous day not being adhered to. To Amber, stop being weird toward people causing them trauma, all because you're uncomfortable they are different than you. Isabella was not there this day, and for years she has consistently provided the best customer service. I'm glad Shay was working on my move-out day because she spoke to me and not through me. She asked me and my mover how our day was going. We had an uplifting, positive conversation about faith, God, and kindness. I hope God blesses the young boy Ken and girl Amber to be kind to others in the future.

It's time to find out…read more This storage unit is a good option next to all the good food trucks, and it looks fancy and it's kept pretty well, but it's pricey and that is one downside... Another downside is that in some regard it's not run very well. This is one of the reasons we ended up not doing business with them. But definitely better than a lot of alternatives.
