Had a unit at public storage for 2 years. Decided not to continue holding my stuff here because the upcharges were ridiculous. Went to move my things out of the unit, hired a moving crew and a truck to get all of my things out of the unit and not worry about taking multiple trips. Got off the elevator and instantly smelled a strong odor of MOLD AND MILDEW. Went to open my unit and opened it to ALL OF MY ITEMS DAMAGED AND COVERED IN MOLD with puddles of water still sitting on my items. I'd highly advise anyone against storing your things at public storage in Berwyn IL. read more

I've been with PS Berwyn for 3 years now. very clean, well maintained and every staff member I've come across has been fantastic. Today Katrina and Thiel stood out to me. Terrible experience... 1.) Rent increased 14% on 5th month, with more to come, 2.) Full time residents living in units, lounging in halls on lawn furniture, and smell of cigarettes, urine and feces! Some of our employees refuse to visit. Our company is renting to stage spare parts in various parts of the county. We take customer reviews seriously. This company has bad customer policy and their employee culture supports it. We complained to corporate, no help. Called the office manager, who gave us six three zero five zero three sixty-eight sixty-two for Marisa, district manager, who was not interested in helping, but sent us to Jon Pottorf, district manager of west suburbs of Chicago, at six three zero nine one four sixty-nine ninety-one. This guy is a real beauty! We phoned daily for over 59 days and he called back once on a number without a caller ID. Maybe he needs 500 calls? 8/21/19 - The day following my post, I received a call from Jon, who listened to my complaints. Jon and Marisa toured the facility, and followed up with 3 more calls giving status reports and proposing a solution to the early rent increase. The results are that the facility has been cleaned with no signs of live-ins and a satisfactory modification to our rent. I have updated my review to 4 stars because of their communication and results. I am withholding the 5th star because I should not have had to invest so much energy into these issues that could have been potentially settled with a returned phone call. read more

Very frustrating company to work with, one that has predatory policies. Had documented issue with portal, which caused payment to be a few days late, and since my move in date started on the 26th of the previous month, I received a $45 late fee on the 1st because my $45 payment was past due 5 days. On the 2nd (so 8 days past due) I was notified that my unit would be going up for auction. ALL THIS FOR BEING 8 DAYS LATE TOTAL. No exaggeration, this is fact. I paid the pro-rated rent and next months rent as I tried to get the predatory late fee and auction fee removed. -Three calls to corporate executive escalations group were not returned. -Twitter direct message did prompt a phone call but the person could not help me. -Regional manager did call me back one time (I called 4 times; still haven't connected). -District Manager did not return any of my 5 phone calls, even though the customer service person from Twitter messaged him with my situation. -Customer service could not help and my 3 transfers to leave a message for a supervisor were ignored. -Went into the location to resolve; could not resolve either. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Illinois Commerce Commission and faxing and emailing copies to the President and local office (since the District Manager is unresponsive). I will update this post if anyone helps resolve this. To charge someone a 100% late fee and then put the contents up for auction if the person is 8 days late is a predatory business practice, in my opinion. Hope this helps. read more

I have been a customer at this Public Storage location for years. I like the fact that it is climate controlled and allows you to pull into the facility regardless of the weather. However, sometime last month, PS cleaned the floors in the corridors - by sand-blasting. As a result everything in the unit is covered with a heavy layer of grit and dust. While it would have been great to have received a phone call giving me a heads up, an e-mail would have been fine. I know they have my e-mail, because they contact me every month about payment. I will be moving out as soon as possible. read more

Not what I expected so many hidden fees that. Is not brought to your attention.and when you Call there costumer service number there solution is the take your junk and leave. The staff seem like they hate there job and know very little. The district manager doesn't follow through or honor anything they do wrong themselves. And blames you for it and clearly it was them. I have been a customer at this Public Storage location for several years. The staff, specifically Val, are great. My unit is the largest, and is heated, which is awesome (if you have electronic items and don't have a heated unit, the display screens on your items will not work anymore. I learned that after storing my items in a non-heated unit YEARS ago. Will never, ever do that again!) I have furniture for a 2 bedroom apartment, and my unit is big enough not only to hold all of my stuff, but there's plenty of room for more stuff! I love the gate hours (6am-9pm); I'm able to get in and out of my storage unit without any problems. If you can't find any dollies around, all you have to do is go and ask Val, and she'll get a dolly for you ASAP. Make sure to take advantage of reserving a unit online. You only wind up paying the administration fee (plus about a $9 charge for insurance) for the first month, which is awesome (especially if you have the largest unit like me!). You can also pay either in person or online, which makes things very convenient. read more

Save your time, money, and aggravation and store your stuff somewhere else. Public storage is HORRID, and it's not just this location according to reviews I've read on Consumer affairs website. First off, when I signed up, it was advertised that the first month was $1. Well, what they didn't tell me is that you are pro rated for the first month, so it's $1 up front when you sign up- but you will be billed for those few weeks you are there the first month. So if you move in the middle of the month, you will be charged for the remaining weeks in that month. They didn't tell me this and I was receiving emails about the "pro rate". I didn't expect this, and this was in March 2020 when Covid first hit- I lost my job and I asked them if they could waive the pro rate as I wasn't told about it, they wouldn't. Fast forward 4 months, my rent was increased by 20%! I called them and complained because what the he** kind of company raises rent in a global pandemic, for NO reason? The property manager couldn't do anything about it, so they gave me the district managers number. I called them multiple times, left multiple voicemails, never got a call back! So I emailed corporate, and they basically told me they can't do anything about the rate changes. Fast forward another 4 months, ANOTHER RENT INCREASE!!!! What an absolute joke this company is. I received another rent increase, about a month ago. Thankfully, my boyfriend and I finally got our apartment so I was able to get my stuff out. But wait! The madness does NOT end here. Google states their office is open daily from 9-6 PM during weekdays. I rented a truck, and got there expecting a property manager to be there to rent me out a furniture dolly. To no avail, NOBODY WAS THERE! I rented my truck for nothing and wasted money and had to take my truck right back. The phone number for the berwyn location sent me to another answering service, whomever I talked to stated there was "nothing they could do" as they weren't at the location even though it says they are there. More wasted time and money thanks to PS. Next time I went, I made sure to call and see if someone was in there to get a dolly before I wasted my time again. On top of that, they don't even have any garbage cans in the building at all for customers. 20% rent increases every 4 months for "cost of supplies and business costs" yet they can't provide a garbage can. Again, what an absolute joke. Today I finally emptied out my unit, and tomorrow I will be there to sweep it out because once they notified me emptying my unit, of course they have to remind me to sweep it and have everything out by the first so I won't be charged. Hah! Don't have to tell me twice, I wasn't planning on giving them more money anyways. GOOD RIDDANCE PS, DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE. Never again. read more

We had too many things to fit in our small apartment and this place was a lifesaver. The ladies in the office are really friendly and very careful about explaining all of the details to you. I was very pleased with our experience at this facility. The building is well maintained and clean. Our storage unit was a nice size for the price too. read more

No where does it mention that you have to pay $20 to use their lock. You can only use the moving carts during office hours, so if you show up during off hours, you have to carry one box at a time! I originally booked a unit at $46, then two days later it was $36 online. DO NOT RENT HERE, you are basically overpaying for a closet. read more

Smells like urine inside, and employees delight in finding every way possible to not serve a possible new customer. Supposedly didn't have the size I originally reserved 10 days ago, and lost due to sudden death in family out of state, but as I go to leave I find it on the website as available. Go back in, and woman tells me I messed her up. Then she gleefully tells me she can't service my new registration for 30 minutes. read more

This is my first time getting a storage unit and was a little afraid of what I was walking into. Since my uncle tried to discourage me from doing it talking about mice and such. But when I went in to check out the location and finish the reservation I was very happy to find the location was clean, the storage unit was a bit dusty BUT clean other than dust which is to be expected from an unused unit and from what I was told later. Thair helped me out in finishing the reservation after showing me the unit and telling me what elevator to use when I come in and letting me know there were parking spaces close to the elevator, which for myself is great not being able to do long-distance walking. He even informed me as we walked down the hall towards the crossway that my storage unit was near the elevator which it was literately around the corner and the second unit. Which again was perfect. The checkout process was quick and painless, a little more than what I was expecting but then realized there normally are fees above but was explained to them all. As far as the dust thing I mentioned earlier Thair did let me know that the items within the unit would get dusty as it is like storing in a garage in that way and mentioned getting tarps to cover everything mentioned that they do sell them BUT didn't insist on getting them there again something I appreciated. Did let me know they had hand carts when the office was open and didn't blink an eye when I had to make two trips down to get one since my car can not hold a lot of the size of storage boxes I was packing into the unit on the move-in day. I will defiantly recommend this location to anyone needing a unit near where I live. read more

I had a 1 bedroom apt worth of furnishings that wouldn't fit into my already furnished house in Oak Park so I needed a place to store these items temporarily. I found Public Storage in Berwyn through Yelp and I couldn't be more pleased. Maurice was incredibly helpful, professional and dedicated to his customer's satisfaction. The movers arrived with my belongings on 8/31 (Yes, the busiest day of the month to move into a storage facility) and Maurice did an excellent job of traffic control and crazy control. The facility is clean and secure and conveniently located near my house. I was more than satisfied with my experience and would highly recommend Public Storage in Berwyn read more

Office staff has been awesome - super friendly and straightforward. Even renting their truck was easy. My only complaint is that I've never seen more than 4 carts there, all flat, all very small. We're all moved in, so hopefully we won't find any more big furniture to have to store. read more

Pretty much a scam - stay away unless you are only looking for temporary storage for a month our two. We received a rent increase of 25% after only 6 months, and then another 25% increase after a year. We were told by the staff that rent increases were never more than 10%. Also, when you try to call customer service it puts you into a loop that transfers you back to the same facility that just gave you the number. They really try to make it hard to reach a real person. read more

I am new to this location and the staff here are by far very friendly. they kindly place roach and mice repellent in each unit, which was very nice. I love the fact that this is a secure location, clean location, and climate controlled. HOWEVER, when I first signed up for a tour of the space, someone should have called me to confirm and I never got that call. I was sent an email to say show up to the location between a certain time frame and get your keys. When I arrived, Anita looked at me and said, "you're early. your tour was scheduled for 1. someone called you and said that they set up a time with you for 1." yeah, didnt happen. What was also a turn off for me was just this past week, I went to put some stuff into my unit and low and behold, a couple units over, there were roaches crawling around. I think someone brought roaches with them, which make me kind of weary. I quickly went to home depot after my visit and purchased my own roach motels and placed them in my unit. I know that the roaches might not last long since I dont think you can store food here , just made me a little uneasy. read more

I was not satisfied with there payment processing. I paid on the due date and they still charged me 29.00 dollar late fee which is simply ridiculous. Two winters ago, I had another storage unit from them and they did the same thing (2040 S 25th Ave). In addition, last winter they asked me to remove the snow in front of my unit myself. I had to wait several weeks till the ice melted down in order to move out. Also, at one point I was there a few minutes after nine inside my unit and they locked me in the storage parking lot. I had to call the fire department to get out. read more

Rip-off! They tell you you can end the contract early BUT they do no disclose on their website that rental fees are not prorated after the 6th day of the month. Take your magnifying glass with you to read the fine print BEFORE signing the contract. read more
