This business is family owned it has two sections, Dr. David Hoffman who is the optometrist, while his brother and sister who take care of the eyewear section and appointments. I would give Dr. Hoffman five stars and the eyewear section three stars if I could. We have been going to Dr. Hoffman for years. Our first encounter was due to the location. We feel very lucky to stumble upon his practice. The office is clean and conveniently located in a shopping center with ample free parking. Dr. Hoffman's routine examinations are very thorough he takes the time to answer questions and provide recommendations without pushing any products. You can tell that he has a passion about his practice. He is extremely courteous and knowledgeable, he explains the science and the inner workings of the eye. When I had an accidental eye injury he immediately called a specialist to make an emergency appointment for me, he called me home that evening to check-up on my eye, and followed-up personally and promptly on the results. I cannot imagine going to anyone else. The Eyewear section staff is very friendly especially when not busy. I feel there is room for improvement as far as the quality of the lenses and selection. read more

Went here because I needed my glasses repaired because my lens popped out of my frame and also was in the area. Not only did they get it done quick but also free of charge! Not too many places out there where you get that type of help and without any fee. They could have made quick money but they chose not to and he even helped me figure out why they kept coming out and tightened it. Trust me I will be back for anything I need in regards for my eyes. Never heard of such a thing. So everything worked out great, They accepted my health insurance for the medical exam as health insurance doesn't usually cover vision. I came here to look for frames. I was helped immediately, even while the doctor was helping another patient. They have a better than average selection of frames. The one that I did like they were willing to look up to see if there were any other sizes/colors which I may like. I gave them only 4 stars because they chose not to call my insurance to figure out if I was covered by them. They said my insurance would not cover Ray Bans and Oakleys (which were the ones I primarily was interested in). I should've asked them to give my insurance a call but they seemed like they knew what they were talking about so I let it go. Despite this, I enjoyed my experience there. Everyone was nice and very helpful. I may return in the future for any eye exams I may have. On a side note, I ended up finding those same frames at another location and in fact, my insurance did cover them. read more

I used to go to Dr. Hoffman growing up and compare every optometrist I've ever had since to him. No one has been able to fill his shoes! When I moved away, I would try to squeeze in an appointment when I was back in town visiting family, but that became more and more difficult to do and I finally had to give in and get an optometrist in my area. This medical practice is truly unique in that Dr. Hoffman and everyone on the staff will spend the time ANSWERING QUESTIONS. All questions - I understand what is happening during the exam and the importance of the various aspects of the exam. This is not a practice that checks your eyes and tries to sell you glasses. I found this eye doctor's office from a Living Social deal. The deal sounded amazing and the yelp reviews were great, so I figured, why not? I made an appointment on their online scheduling program and was sent an email confirmation. The week before my appointment, I also called and confirmed. When I got to the office (after leaving work early to make my appointment), I was told that they didn't have me on the schedule and that I would have to reschedule for another day. When I explained that I had confirmed twice, the error was blamed on "a new employee" and they managed to squeeze me in for an appointment. During my appointment, I was told that my eyes were over-corrected and I needed a lesser prescription. (I explained that I have been told this in the past, but that I am unable to see well with the lesser prescription). The doctor told me that I should try it and if it didn't work out, they would re-make the glasses in the stronger prescription. I picked out glasses, but was told they needed to be ordered in the right size. I was quoted a $30 balance for the glasses (after the Living Social coupon). I got a call a week later that my glasses were in, so I went to pick them up. Upon arriving, I was shown my glasses, only to see that they were ordered in the wrong color because apparently the color I wanted wasn't available in the size I needed. But they didn't bother telling me that over the phone. When I asked if there were any other comparable frames, they showed me several frames that looked nothing similar in order to explain to me that no, there was nothing comparable. So I ended up having to go with the darker frames even though I did not like them. Then they told me that I would have to come back another day to pick them up because they needed to cut the lenses. Luckily, another employee stepped in and said this was a special situation because of the appointment mix-up and they would cut them while I waited. When I put the glasses on, everything was distorted, but I was told that would go away within minutes or hours. Then I was asked to pay for the balance of almost $150 ...when I had previously been quoted at $30. Apparently, a math mistake had taken place on the original quote. With all the frustration, they ended up only charging me $30, which I did appreciate. Fast forward to the day after, this morning, I'm wearing my new glasses (which are too dark for my skin tone), and everything is wavy and distorted. I cannot see properly, I have a horrible headache, and I am nauseous. I called the eye doctor and the person who answered the phone was very rude, informing me that "All I do is answer the phones. I don't know anything about glasses, I can't help you. You have to come in." When I tried to explain the situation, she cut me off mid-sentence. When I asked if I could speak with someone else, she said everyone was busy and took down my name and number. I don't expect that anyone will call me back. Now that I just put on my old glasses, I can see again. Interesting, eh? read more

Two days ago I went to PS Optometry for an eye exam and to choose new glasses. From the moment I walked in I was well treated and felt my opinions and needs respected. The staff was attentive and showed me potential glasses frames that met my needs and price requirements. They were knowledgeable about my insurance and were able to calculate prices quickly and efficiently. These were all good things, but that was not the best part of the visit. The best part was Dr. Hoffman. When he examined my eyes he was amazingly thorough. He was very skilled at explaining everything he did and the results he got. Booked an appointment for my elderly mother, based on the great reviews here on yelp - and we were both very, very pleased. This was a " 2nd opinion " exam (after experiencing a rather brief eye exam at a big box store along with a prescription that was inaccurate). The entire team at PS was kind and patient with my mother and the Doctor was very thorough, explained every detail and was able to figure out the issue. He was able to provide an accurate prescription as well. I felt zero pressure to purchase eyeglasses there ( we still had to return the original pair from the big box store anyway) and they were very helpful in explaining how to go about getting a re- do from the place we purchased the glasses from. My mother's level of confidence with her doctors is of the utmost importance and she said that she felt very comfortable and was quite happy with the service from the PS family ( and it truly is a family business, I heard them mention a brother, sister, and father who also work there - how great is that!). This is a legitimately good, locally owned business with good, kind people running the place.
