I've been going to this doctor's office for years, until 2 years ago when they hired a heavy set woman who only knows how to get new clients and doesn't want to deal with existing patients. She's very rude and doesn't return calls. When I went to the doctor's office after 2 days of no return call, she advised the office manager who's the wife of the doctor that I needed another set of trial contacts and I was advised they had to order them. I clarified I didn't need the trial contacts but I wanted my old prescription and same brand (Air Optics) as the new brand they gave me wasn't comfortable. I always asked for my Rx as they try to sell me 2 full boxes of contacts which is very expensive. I decided to go to a different doctor, Dr. Martin Doll in HB. They're very professional and easy to deal with. They evaluated me and gave my Rx for contact lens and took it to Costco. To my surprise, Costco processed my order and sent it to my insurance and the insurance paid for it as I have contact lens coverage. It's interesting to note that Advantage Eyecare maxed out my benefits and I always had to pay for my contact lenses out of pocket. I just recently realized they're taking advantage of patients' insurance and charge for services that was not rendered...this needs to be investigated. Customer service has definitely deteriorated. read more

I'm so frustrated that I even have to give them 1 star to post a review. This place really lives up to their name when they use the words 'Advantage' . My mother went in this week for an eye exam. Knowing she is in a fixed income, they still sold her on $600 for glasses and the exam. My mom has been recently trying to do things independently which is why I did not know about this beforehand. My mother came home crying after visiting here because she was pressured I to buying glasses that she could not afford. The employee talked her into ridiculously expensive frames when all she has been needing are some debt reading glasses. She explained that she was on a fixed income amd the employee told her that her eyes would get worse if she did not purchase these. Shame on your establishment amd shame in your employees. read more

I've been going here since my daughter was a little girl, and she is now a grown woman of 28 with children of her own -- and guess what? We all still come here. I don't even live in the city of Cypress anymore, but I drive from Irvine because the care, kindness, and family feel you get from this office is unmatched. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the sweetest receptionists and secretaries, and the doctor and his wife make you feel like you're part of their family. They are patient, caring, and truly go above and beyond to make sure every question is answered and every visit is smooth. Some of these negative reviews? I honestly think those people must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed -- or maybe that's just their normal way of being, because this office is spectacular. I've been going to Advantage Eyecare for routine exams for over 10 years now! I've practically grown up with the Kwongs and they've become my extended family - I always look forward to seeing them. The service they provide is impeccable and they do everything with a smile. Although my vision and needs are constantly changing, they always find the best contact brand to relieve my discomforts (dry, itchy eyes and high prescription) and are willing to offer other solutions if one does not work; they listen to your concerns and genuinely want to help! ** Wish I could give a negative star review. ** My office visit and exam were fine but they did not give me my spectacle prescription. The Secretary administrated the dilation drops and I'm not sure if that is legal. My g/f is investigating to verify if that is legally allowed. - 2nd trip to pick it up. - 3rd trip - The prescription was not signed. Seems like they really didn't want to give me "my" prescription. (I wonder how many patients they have done this to. Bad practice.) - They told me if I didn't like any of the frames they offered I could buy them somewhere else and have the lenses filled at their office. That's what I did. - 4th trip - During my 4th trip they told me most the of spectacle features are not covered on my insurance plan as the office initially implied they were covered during my third trip to the office (when the RX was signed.) My g/f informed me if I had to pay out of pocket I can go anywhere I want for those services. That's what I did. BUT There's More... While ordering my frames and lenses the optician noticed the prescription was inaccurate, therefore she had to call this office and request a corrected prescription to be faxed. (Now I really think they didn't want to give me "MY" prescription.) This was about the "Only" action they did correctly. They did fax a corrected prescription within about 5 minutes of the request. My g/f was thinking about using this provider for her eye exam and and glasses but I think they lost a potential patient / customer. read more

Gave the office my wife's medical insurance information, They told us to come in for an appointment. Then told us they couldn't use her AARP insurance and charged us $90.00, for Eye exam. The then asked for almost three time the price of the other optometrist we ended using, my advice is to avoid this business. read more

Ordered two pair of eyeglasses. Insurance paid for one pair and I paid out of pocket $550 for the second pair. They were done within two weeks. Picked them up and they did some adjusting for the right fit. I will have to go back and have another adjustment made as it is uncomfortable behind my ear. They said that would be no problem and that they would adjust them at any time. No appointment necessary for that. Office staff were very nice. The only drawback is the size of the store. It's very cramped and difficult to maneuver around in my wheelchair. I could go somewhere else for an adjustment if I choose to. read more

I've been a loyal customer here for about the last 7-8 years now. In that time, I'm pretty sure I have purchased about 9-10 pairs of glasses or so. Usually I stick with prescription sunglasses with polarized lens but also have gotten standard reading glasses, transitions lens and even regular tinted sunglasses. Each pair have held up over the years but I do keep them in a case whenever I'm not using 'em. I'm pretty good about that. The optometrists and staff here are so very kind and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The staff lets you know up front what out-of-pocket costs there will be and what your insurance will cover. I have recommended several family and friends there and they all have had good experiences. I want to come here with a balanced review after being a customer/patient for years. For the cons: I do believe they are a bit pushy with you buying glasses from them. If you come in to do a quick eye exam - they want you to buy frames and glasses even if you are not in need of one. I understand their perspective that we should utilize our insurance, but taking "No" for an answer is a bit tough for them. Second, I had my daughter come to them for a check up - she was about 7 years old at the time. They gave them the same check up as myself - an adult. While I'm sure that might not be a problem for most folks - I still think a different approach should be used for kids. Especially ones coming in for their first visit. Just like I would take my kiddos to a pediatric dentist and would not recommend my own dentist for my kids, I think I will be finding someone that really works with kids and has a different approach to their check ups. For the Pros: They really are good folks. They want you to be happy. And IF you are in a pinch to get glasses quick - they really can get you in and take care of things quickly. They have the glasses-buying process down like a well oiled machine. If they say they will call you back, they do so quickly as well. If you are not satisfied - just come to them with honesty and tell them how you feel, they will genuinely try to solve your problems. They are really efficient working with insurance companies and squeezing as much benefits from them as possible. If you know what you want, they will get it for you quickly and insurance will not be a problem for you. Overall - they are a true family business that belong in Cypress. Maybe I may take my kids here when they are a bit older and less maintenance, but for now, I think their strengths are really treating low maintenance folks that know what they want. If you are someone that is looking for more of a custom approach and are extremely picky about your frames/contacts and have lots of questions - I do not think this place is for you. They are busy and might not offer you the type of service you need. Im happy with this business because I'm low maintenance - which is not a good or bad thing. Im just that type of person. read more

We found Dr. Kwong and Dr. Tran a couple of years ago. They were recommended to me by my co-worker because she and her family had gotten very thorough eye exams there. Before we started seeing Dr. Kwong, my son's prescription kept getting worse every year. Dr. Kwong told my son to take more breaks and to use good lighting when reading and on his iPad. My son used to be on his iPad for hours without even blinking. Dr. Kwong also discussed some options to help slow down his prescription changes, including bifocals and Ortho K contact lenses. We chose the Ortho K or "Dream Lens" option because my son likes to play sports. My son basically sleeps in his contact lenses at night and takes them out in the morning when he wakes up. He can see clearly during the day without any contact lenses or glasses. It has been working great for him and his vision hasn't changed in two years! Both doctors are very informative and helpful. We really like that they are very precise and always fully explain what is going on with our eyes at every visit. read more

My entire family has been coming here for our glasses/contacts/sunglasses for many years now. I also go to Kaiser for contacts, but I always prefer to come here. Dr. Tran is helpful and welcoming at every visit, demonstrating genuine care for her patients. A couple years ago, my eyes felt dry all the time. Dr. Tran recommended that I switch to Acuvue Oasys (an option that wasn't even mentioned at Kaiser) and ever since my eyes have been happy and pain-free. Dr. Tran also gives me a free sample of Clear Care, a type of contact solution, each time I purchase contacts. This solution is amazing. It works overnight to clean contacts, and it eliminated the lingering discomfort of putting on contacts that I normally experience with Opti-Free. Each time I have visited in the past, Advantage Eyecare has always been stocked with Acuvue Oasys, which saves me one less trip to the optometrist office! Each box has 6 contacts for $36. Minus one star for a somewhat limited selection of sunglasses and glasses (in my opinion). Also, the tint of their prescription sunglasses didn't turn out dark enough, even though Dr. Tran ordered the darkest tint possible. read more

My oh my, where do I begin? I am about 4 or maybe 5 years too late with this review. Dr. Tran Kwong and DR. Kwong are just all around great people.  They are kind and courteous. They know me by my first name every time I come in. They both nursed me through an ulcer in my left eye, which took a while to heal.  They dealt with my lack of patience, and rudeness an NEVER once changed their tone with me.  They really helped me through such a hard time. (Take your contacts out every night, trust me!) Like a previous poster has noted, they do have somewhat of a limited selection in eye glasses.  HOWEVER, they will order any glasses you want! I have been so picky; it's taken me over a year to find the perfect glasses! ! ! They special ordered 2 different pairs for me two separate times, and I still didn't even get either one of those pairs! They are two are great people.  I won't be going to Len's Crafters where I'm an anonymous client that they truly could care less about.  I hope this family business stays open forever, because they are definitely my family when it comes to my eyes! read more

I wouldn't recommend this optometrist! My children and I were patients for several years and I always thought my eldest needed glasses because Advantage Eyecare told me and at one point recommending bifocals for him which I purchased. It was till my eldest had a orbital fracture that we saw a specialist at children's Long Beach memorial that the doctor asked why my child has glasses when he has perfect vision. It was at this moment I lost faith in this optometrist office despite the nice staff. I realized that they are in the businesses making money, not in the better interest of patient care quality. All I can suggest if your currently with this optometrist please seek a second opinion. Especially is your a medical patient! They'll use it to get paid and up sell you to offer you a 20% discount. Just be aware please as I've lost money on frames and lenses multiple times here. read more

The golden rule of sales is to underpromise and overdeliver. Advantage Eyecare always overdelivers! I live in San Francisco, so when it came time to get new glasses, I wanted to get an eye exam done and have my new glasses ready within the one week that I was in Cypress. I was told that I might not receive my glasses until the very last day that I was leaving, and that the total would be ~$178.00. In the end, I got my glasses three days early, and only paid $4.00 with my double VSP coverage! Awesome! Both Dr. Tran and Dr. Kwong are very nice and patient. They are always accommodating and will bend over backwards to make visits as painless as possible. And best of all, because it's a relatively small office, it feels homey and personalized. My first time here today. I got recommend by my primary doctor. I had called a day earlier to make an appointment and the receptionist was very friendly . As i got there the girls at the front desk were nice, welcoming and everyone is friendly. The place is a little clustered, but thats okay. Nobody sits and stays at the place for long anyways. As i finished filling out my information sheet. One of the assistant walked me to get my pre check up on the 3 machine. I also had to take off my contacts beforehand. Everything went smooth except to check my glaucoma. The machine that blows air into my eyes . ..gets on my nerves 3s i dread that thing so much. Anyways the doctor went through a series of eye exams and tests. The place is clean, everything is well presented . Although i didnt know my insurance didnt cover the lens and frames . ..shouldve been warned but oh wells. I only paid for my lens and frames today , 129$... Lots of varieties to choosw from, limited for cheap people like me. I dont want to spend a crapload on frames . anyways overall i had a great experience here! read more

I went here for the first time because I got a new insurance, they're someone that took it, and they had good reviews. I usually go to Costco...but I'm so happy I found this place. I was very pleasantly surprised. The doctor was so nice and helpful. He really took his time with me and explained everything. He just seems to really care about each person. I'm so grateful to have found Dr. Kwong and his very helpful staff. My daughter had been getting a lot of headaches for the past year and I took her to another eye doctor last year. That other doctor did a super fast eye exam and told us her vision was fine. My daughter continued to have headaches and our pediatrician referred us to Dr. Kwong for an eye exam. Dr. Kwong did such a thorough eye exam on my daughter. He did so many more tests on her, which that other doctor never did. He found that she did have a prescription for school and reading and that glasses should help her headaches. She got her new glasses this summer and her headaches are gone. The doctor works fast holy crap! I've been going to this office for a couple years now (like once or twice a year haha), simply to get a prescription for contact lenses. But yesterday, I called the office asking if they (the optometrist) can look at/treat eye infections cause my dumbass fell asleep with my contacts on. Anyway they said yes so I showed up a bit later and he gave me a prescription for stronger antibiotic eye drops (I had a previous eye infection weeks earlier and the urgent care PA gave me some weak drops apparently). The AC in the mini exam room with the chair is hella nice on a hot 100F day. But what really made me happy was how fast they got my prescriptions lenses. They obviously made me take off my infected contacts, but my back up prescriptions glasses were at home, were an older/weaker prescription as I got them from a different optometrist, and most importantly they fugly. Did not like wearing them, would rather see blurry. So I inquired about buying new lenses/frames here as they already had my prescription up to date since I went for contact lense renewal probably two months ago. Anyway! I found frames I liked AND THE DOCTOR SAID HE COULD CUT THE GLASS IN LESS THAN AN HOUR CAUSE HE HAD IT IN STOCK. So I went across the street to CVS to fill my prescription for my eye drops and I'm about 30-45 minutes the glasses were ready. I paid extra $40 for thin glass and UV coating and whatnot, and I paid less than $200 for the glasses. Good price for new glasses and fast af service! Yayyy. read more

My family and I have been patients at this office for over 8 years. Both doctors genuinely care and are so nice. Dr. Kwong takes the time to explain the changes to my eyes and shows me how I'm going to see with my new glasses. The staff are always very helpful too. They have a huge selection of frames and I can always find a nice pair of glasses that's covered with my insurance. I like that they never pressure me to purchase the expensive upgrades, unlike the other offices that I used to go to. Most of the time I just get what's covered with my insurance and I can always see great with my new glasses. They always work with me to stay within my budget, which I really appreciate. Both the doctors at this office are awesome! My primary care doctor referred us here 5 years ago. My family and I have been patients ever since. They have given us the most thorough eye exams we have ever had. The doctors are always very kind and patient with my kids. They always take the time to listen to them. Last year, my youngest daughter started getting headaches when she started 3rd grade. We brought her in to get her eyes checked and Dr. Kwong found that she had an astigmatism. She picked out a cute pair of glasses and once she got her new glasses, her headaches went away and she is doing great in school now. Earlier this month, we came in just a few days before my kids started school. My daughter was noticing her eyes were getting fuzzy while watching TV. Dr. Kwong did a very thorough eye exam and her prescription did get a little worse. The doctors were so kind to rush the glasses back for us so she would have it for her first day of school. My daughter loves her new glasses and she sees great again! The doctors genuinely care about their patients. You guys are the best! read more

I have keratoconus and the doctor took his time with me and he was just really great. I had a lot of questions and answered them all and was very patient with me. Office staff really nice, I can appreciate a place that is there to be honest and give the customer/patient what is in there best interest. I went to another doctor and tried to get me crosslink surgery just to make money off me, this doctor was honest and said he would never recommend that surgery for any patient. I can appreciate that.
