On Fri day July 7, 2023 Be careful sending your love ones to this facility. The staff does not glove or mask they touch the computer, writing Pens, equipment, even scratch their head, rub their Face and ,touch the patient without gloves, Mask or washing their hands.! My 84 Year mother was brought to Dr. Carlos Martinez after the short exam My Mothers appointment was at 10:30 AM and was not seen until 1:30 PM Dr. Martinez told my mother that she "had a stroke in her Right eye" I requested some type of pain medication for my mother, I was told "it would be sent to her pharmacy" (which by the way was not sent to the pharmacy) that Friday afternoon. 07/07/ Exiting the room, Dr. Martinez was close cuddle with a female in the hallway who appeared to be upset- total unprofessionalism! I called at 3:45 following up about medication to pharmacy still no return call! Pharmacy stated "there was no Prescription called in for my mother" Saturday, July 8, 2023 Our Family brought Our mother to the emergency room in Long Beach Memorial was examined by the ophthalmologist on duty . He informed my mother and family Reason for so much pain My Mother was with the eye pressure of 70 Normal eye Pressure 15-20 on Dr. Carlos E. Dr Bei immediately assessed my mom extreme compassion, Dr. Bei was set to take vacation. However, she stayed on to assure my mother would have this procedure in the next few days seeing the eye pressure Dr. Bei helped her with a Eye Procedure 07/21. My mother Eye Pressure is now at 15 thanks to Dr Bei stepping in. Here's the worst ! Here we are in September 21,2023 continuous calls from Eye physicians of Long Beach for a returned appointment. ( which, by the way, I called and removed my mother from any further appointments at Eye physicians of Long Beach. Today I make a phone call to once again remove my mother from the roster or any further phone calls I spoke to! "Isabel " states that she is "" currently at the office today" Isabell is sick with the virus and at work. I suggested that she go home and get rest being in the medical field. I admire the heroism of her trying to work however, it doesn't support the fact that our nation has suffered COVID-19 along with any virus spread! Isabel stated "" you can talk to your daughter that way but don't talk to me and hung up The phone on me ! The reason for my call was to request that my mother be removed from the roster of physicians eyes of Long Beach is making sure they keep the appointment not following up. Be careful sending your love ones to this facility. The one star that I posted was for BRIAN, the MA, however... The entire staff needs to glove and mask, or at least wash hands in between each patient and scratching their head and rubbing their face. Dr. Carlos E. Martinez pay more attention to the conduct of your staff and their delivery to the public, additionally, do not book so many individuals on the same time and date appointment. Recently had cataract surgery. Dr. Martinez was great. He clearly explained the process and the results were fine. I did have a bad experience with one of his staff, Cory. First, I had to ask her name because she didn't introduce herself. Then when describing my eye condition to her issues post surgery, she told me in a rude way not to describe anything else unless I first stated which eye I was referring to. (hint, it was the eye I just had surgery on & there are other ways of making requests and speaking to patients). A little later another staff popped in and mentioned something to her. She sighed and started to complain to me about how stressed she was because her computer entries were not being saved properly. I felt like saying that maybe she forgot to type which eye before doing the entries. Plus excuse me, but I had to take off early from work, drove an hour in traffic, and am still healing from surgery . I was stressed too but I didn't take it out on the office staff. Her whole attitude was pissy, unprofessional, and rude. The other staff that I dealt with were fine. I give a 5 star rating for the doctor and 4 for staff. 1 star for Cory. read more

All I can say, Dr. Martinez is a rare type of doctor who actually genuinely cares about the patient. When my regular ophthalmologist bailed out on me a few hours before a long awaited, and a few times rescheduled surgery, he stepped in and saved my day. First, I was shocked and didn't take the news very well, but he found the right words to convince me that he will help me. And he did! Fanciest medical office I've been to by far :) Okay, don't know if this is considered an actual review because I didn't actually have an appointment with the doctor, but this office is the fanciest doctor's office ever. So, that said, this is more of a review of the place and it's ambiance. Firstly, the staff are very friendly and it looks quite small, but all fits together quite nicely. They've got the most comfortable waiting room. Comfy leather couches, a magazine rack, and a TV! It was a rainy day that day and I had gone there with my Mom because she had an appointment. I was so surprised that they were able to fit everything in this office. There was literally a little shop for glasses, kind of like a little booth you see at the mall. Everyone seemed to be working together quite nicely. Okay, I'll be frank, I just watched the Food Network on the TV while I waited for my Mom and that kept me from being bored. The waiting room is nicely lit. None of that typical fluorescent lighting you see at your typical medical office. I hate that. It makes it more home-y and creates a nice calming and relaxing environment. I wonder if I can get a referral to this optometrist office! read more

Best eye doc around! I've had cataracts and lens transplants done by him. This was my second lens transplant and there was a huge possibility of losing my cornea and having to get someone else's which is gross when I think about that. Anyway, he is so great that he saved my eye and gave me 20/20 vision from 20/54. Incompetent staff!  Given incorrect information  from Tina, Indria, Elsa and others etc. Day of surgery called with questions regarding what I could consume before procedure.  Could not receive an answer from anyone. Was  put on hold for twenty minuets.  only to resort to contacting Oscar the CEO for assistance.  Second call from Oscar  I was advised to take my business somewhere else.  because I yelled at his staff ! sadly the patient has no validity.  this is after I had taken medication and set up my transportation etc.  feel bad for  Dr. Lars Hertzog. Disenchanted with  Dr. Martinez, tried  to sell me different lenses for $3,450.00 each plus $1,600.00 for my astigmatism.  Told him I did not want a Ferrari just a Porsche at seventy three  basic lenses good enough.  I felt I was at a used car dealership. Also the rhetoric was beyond acceptable. Bottom line If you want malarkey, I urge you to see them. If you have a brain this is not the place for you. They do not value intelligence!  Indria tells you one thing and does another( she hates driving from Ontario to her job) too much malarkey ! Tina does not listen, told me she does not make the appointments with memorial care. Memorial care expressed that the doctors do the appointments not the center.  who's on first. Kari Joseph gives lip service spoke to her with issues how the front office does not identify themselves when answering the phones or advise you on basic protocol, which then turns into you having to make a second appointment . I put off cataract surgery for several years, coming close a couple of times, but backing off for lack of confidence in the doctors. Last month I came to see Dr. Martinez for the first time and after him examining me and explaining the condition of my eyes to me and the options available to me, I decided on the spot to have him take care of my cataracts. Dr. Martinez made me feel completely at ease about the procedure he outlined to me and he explained clearly everything that would be associated with it, including potential risks in view of a special condition I had. Within a span of three weeks Dr. Martinez operated on both my eyes and while I am still recovering from the second surgery last week, the results are remarkable. Wednesday I had cataract surgery in my left I and one day later I was seeing 20/20. I was an incubator baby and had compromised vision since birth. Yesterday, was the first day that I could SEE an alarm clock. The experience from beginning to end was delightful. Dr. Martinez' staff is professional, friendly and empathetic. After trying unsucessfully to schedule an appointment and getting the run around with a different Provider -- I went to Dr. Martinez. If you are looking for a Doctor who's honest, understanding and truly cares about his patients, Eye Physicians of Long Beach, is the right place for you. My Scheduling and Cataract Surgery and recovery time was quick. The outcome was excellent! I am now Schedule for the procedure on my left eye next week. May I also add, my 82 year old Mother suffers from Anxiety and about two years ago was schedule to do the Cataract Surgery. However, her Anxiety got the better of her and was reluctant to proceed with the Surgery. When Mom was no longer able to read her morning Newspaper - Again, we tried Dr. Martinez. The Staff and Doctor put Mom at ease and Surgery was a sucess! So much so, Mom wants to go ahead and schedule her Right eye - Go Mom!!!
