Rude on the phone. Rude in person. Does not want to do her job and look up your insurance. Lied to me and told me I had no eye insurance. Just to be told by her later that I did have eye insurance. Lied about my actual prescription being wrong and made an excuse instead of trying to uncover the discrepancy. Complained that she had to call the insurance company (that is her job). Also, I have been asking for my eye prescription for years and they will never send it, so they can force you to buy through them. There is a lot of good optometrists in Los Al, Seal Beach, Long Beach - I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

Dr. Hoffman and the whole team were so great. He took time to get to know my profession, medical history and explained to me about my eye health. He took the approach of assessing eye health and how it related to brain health. He worked hard to make sure my glasses prescriptions & contact lenses are right. Dr. Hoffman was knowledgeable and patient with my questions about my eye health, Lasik, astigmatism, etc. The whole practice is family-owned and has been around for over 30 years. Dr. Hoffman's twin brother ran the labs, his sister handled frames/contact lenses/insurance/billing. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. 1. Our appointment was for 4pm and by 4:40 my daughter still hadn't been called back. There was an empty waiting area and no communication from receptionist about why there was a delay or how much longer it would be. By 4:40 I said we couldn't wait anymore and the receptionist's response was "ok sorry". 2. This place is like a used car dealership where everything is a hard sell and they nickel and dime you. They wanted to charge $25 additional for "pupillary distance" if you were going to purchase glasses somewhere else. I just got my vision checked at Costco last week and it was FREE. They of course are doing this bc this is how they make their money...selling glasses and contacts 3. While we were waiting for our overdue appointment, one of the staff came up to us and tried to do a hard sell on contact lens to my daughter. We are not interested but again, he persisted bc that's where they make their money 4. Lastly, they wanted to charge $39 for a retinal scan which I had done at Costco last week for $20. Five starts isn't enough. #1: I visited the office during the time of COVID. The procedures the staff had in place were superior to anywhere I've been. #2: My exam with Dr. Hoffman was informative, explaining every step (including how equipment had been sanitized). He worked extremely hard to get the right prescription. #3: In the spirit of confession, I did order my glasses online. The doctor and the eyeglass people are nice. But this place could do better for children. They don't have much selection. They charge for the glasses Medi-cal covers, they had no children's eyeglasses case, the secretary had me wait for a doctor's note. I just walked off. And they don't give you your glasses prescription. Would I come back here? No. Would I recommend? Without question, the best experience I have ever had at an optometrist office in 40 years of visits!!! This is a family owned and operated business, and you can certainly feel the difference that makes. Dr. Hoffman is so caring and very thorough. I got in depth education of my particular vision impairment. He even diagnosed a very treatable eyelid infection that apparently I've had for years which prevented me from wearing contacts comfortably (I had completely stopped wearing them because of this). Dr. Hoffman's sister Robin is amazing as well. She helped me pick out a great pair of frames and was very sensitive to the fact that I did not have insurance to help with my costs. I have been seeing Dr Hoffman for years, so when my 10 year old son said he was getting headaches while reading, we brought him in for an exam. Dr Hoffman made him feel very comfortable and he was joking around with my son. He was sure to let us know what to expect with each test and kept it fun and light. It turns out my son has a bit of an unusual condition, so we were referred to a specialist. This appointment was just a few days after my son had an eye exam at school where they did NOT pick up on his condition. Do NOT rely on your kids' school to accurately test their vision. If you or your kid is having vision problems, bring them to a doctor who cares. I switched optimitrists closer to my house and came to this place and man has this place given us good deals on glasses. I wouldn't even imagine getting prescribed gaming glasses from here but there I am using them and seeing much more clearly and for longer periods of time at computers, TVs, and phones. I will never see another eye doctor other than Dr. Hoffman as long as I am living in SoCal, because he cares.
