This was my first eye exam since before the COVID Pandemic hit. I recently switched insurance and needed to find a new optometrist. The initial part of the exam was completed by a younger woman who took pictures and measurements of my eyes. The eye doctor was thorough during the exam and was patient. She let me try on samples of contacts to see if I could make them work. Overall service was good. Glasses cost more than I expected even with insurance. read more

As someone who has always had poor vision her entire life, I've always valued the experience of a small, personal practice vs. a. Optometrist in a big box store. Dr. Takeda and her staff are so kind, caring, and careful, I always feel like I'm in the best hands. My husband and I found Dr. Take da on Yelp and we're impressed with the reviews of both she and her practice. We went for our exams and both picked out new frames. I love mine and I'm very happy, both with cost and customer service. My husband brought in a pair of Rayban frames he wanted to make into progressive sunglasses. There was a misunderstanding on what he got versus what he wanted. If you are looking for a new eye doctor, Dr. Takeda and staff at Lakewood Optometry are the best! My sister highly recommended them when I told her I was dissatisfied with the customer service skills at my old optometry office (see other review). Anyhow, during all my experiences, I was greeted with a warm and friendly front staff. The wait is never long; the opticians were professional, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Takeda was like meeting an old friend; she's professional and yet very approachable and down-to-earth friendly. She clearly explains issues with my vision, my concerns with eye strain at the computer and my continued, preferable use of contact lens. The staff helped me with the breakdown of cost; explaining what my insurance covered and what was out of pocket. They are very pro-active at making sure that I have my annual examinations scheduled. In light of COVID-19, the business has opened recently with limited occupancy and days. I feel safe walking inside; they take your temperature, the staff and doctor wear masks, informed me that the facility was wiped down. While I was there, there was less than 10 people with me. Dr. Takeda and her professional staff gave me a positive experience for a new glasses/contacts exam in August 2018. I called for an appointment mid-August, which is typically when doctors are impacted for back-to-school appointments. These folks got me an appointment for 2 days later in the same week and emailed me new client forms to fill out ahead of my appt. Thank you for saving me from recalling patient history on the fly. I checked in for my appt with zero wait time at the front desk. The reception area was bright, welcoming, clean, and had ample seating. There was also space to browse their frames comfortably without bumping into someone else, unlike my last optometrist. They called me back for pretesting barely 2 minutes after I sat down and led me to their control room. Whoops, I mean their pretesting room. Their pretesting machines are brand new and so advanced that I was in awe. Everyone should get their Optos retinal imaging done here because the process was a breeze compared to the older machines elsewhere. No fuss, no muss, and I got high-quality images of my retina to ensure I'm healthy. After pretesting I went back to the exam room. This entire office is SPACIOUS and bright, perfect for little ones who might be scared of the doctor's. Dr. Takeda came in just moments after I was seated and began the exam. If there is a course on bedside manner for doctors, I want Dr. Takeda to teach it. She led me through a thorough exam and listened to my concerns about my astigmatism. We went through several "#1 or #2" scenarios to make sure it was the right fit. She is professional, personable, and human. Dr. T spent a good 20 minutes going over my eye health and answering my questions about lasik surgery. She gave me literature for the doctor she refers to and had her staff initiate contact with that office on my behalf. When life is less busy, I'll use Dr. Takeda as my pre-op and post-op doctor when I finally get to do lasik. I went home in trial contact lenses and tested them for about 10 days before discovering I just can't wear Acuvue anymore. I called to ask if I could switch to another brand I've worn before and they updated my contacts with no problem. I LOVED how easy it was to understand my insurance benefits and order contacts through this office. The only struggle I had with this process was what am I going to do since I moved out of the area because I trust these folks so much. The answer is simple: I'll happily drive in from 150 miles away just to be a patient here. The service and professionalism here does not compare-- thank you Dr. Takeda, Judy, Emily, and other staff I haven't met yet. You guys rock!!! read more

Glasses are a statement piece amirite ladies! So I was happy to have good feedback when choosing frames. I got a very quick response from Judy who went into great detail as to what precautions they are taking to keep everyone safe! It made me feel extremely safe to go ahead and make our appointments. I am a super germaphobe and they made me feel so comfortable throughout my entire appointment. Sanitizer is everywhere if you need it. I just had my yearly exam today, and felt very comfortable with the Covid precautions in the office. After my thorough exam, I was helped to pick out my next pair of glasses and sunglasses. I always dread picking out new frames (it's such a commitment!) but the lady helping me brought different pairs for me to try and made suggestions based on my face shape, and I found a pair that worked for me in record time! I love my current worn-out prescription sunglasses, and even though they don't carry the brand she called and found that they could order them for me. Came in for my annual check-up as well as to purchase long overdue frames. I was greeted by Judy, who checked me in and performed standard preliminary tests. She was friendly and courteous, taking the time to explain what each machine does and the purpose of the test, which I greatly appreciated. I especially liked that she took th time to clean the equipment in front of me. Dr. Takeda herself was both professional and personable, making the exam extremely comfortable. She listened to my concerns carefully and recommended new contacts for me to try and did so in a way that made it seem like we were just 2 old friends, catching up. After the exam, Judy and Dr. Takeda were extremely patient in helping me choose frames, especially for someone as indecisive as I am. My wife and I have never written a review for any person and/or businesses on Yelp, but thought we would do so now. Since we relocate every three years, finding the right doctors etc., can be a challenge. We just moved from Honolulu into the Long Beach area, and needed to find a reputable and reliable Optometrist. A friend recommended Lakewood Optometry... and we're glad she did! First, our impression upon entering the office was it was neat and clean, a pleasing appearance. The office is updated and modern, professional looking. (We've walked out of offices because they were not clean, which give us an indication of the type of care we would be getting.) The medical equipment was up to date with technology. The office staff was very friendly and professional. The girls were great and easy to talk with. The eyewear products were quality, and reasonably priced. We were able to get several pair of glasses and are very happy with the style selection and the quality of the lenses. We've had lenses from Costco's etc., which always seemed inferior and hard to keep the smudges off. The lenses Lakewood Optometry uses are easy to clean. Not sure why, don't really care. They just seem to be much better in quality. And, we didn't have to wait long for our appointment! Plus, since I'm a coffee drinker, having decent coffee while waiting (Keurig, I prefer Jura though) was nice too. :-) Second, we enjoyed Dr. Takeda a great deal, as she was very knowledgeable and professional. She spent time just chatting with us, and took her time answering any questions. She's enjoyable to be around... you'll like her. If you have any nervousness, feel a little anxious about an examination, or have young children (she's a mother of little ones), she will allay any of your fears. Dr. Takeda (and the office girls) exert no pressure and do not try to sell products or care that are unnecessary. She is super helpful and cares about the health of your eyes. Dr. Takeda & her staffs are very nice. My 9 yrs old boy has Ortho-k here. His prescription is a bit high for his age, but he doesn't like to wear glasses. Dr. Takeda suggested ortho-k for him. My boy has been using the ortho-k contact lens for about 6 months now; he wears them at night while asleep. By the time he takes them off in the morning, he can see clearly. He's so happy he doesn't need to wear glasses anymore. Ortho-k can also reduce the progression of Myopia. We're very satisfied with the service in the office & will definitely recommend Ortho-k lenses to all kiddos!!! read more

I have to give a little background just so you'll understand EXACTLY how appreciative I am of Dr. Takeda and her staff. For years I've struggled to see due to Keratoconus. I had already seen 3 optometrists, a few "specialists" and all assured me they could only get me "better vision, but not perfect vision." They recommended procedures such as crosslinking, even a cornea transplant. Ouch! I seriously considered it after trying glasses, Gas Permeable lenses, and prayer. As they said, it helped, but NONE of it worked. At 30 years old, I adapted. I avoided driving at night whenever possible. Prayed I hit a pothole and not a pedestrian (I'm kidding) and gave up reading anything I couldn't put directly onto my eyeballs. I decided to give myself one more chance. After scouring the internet I found TONS of positive reviews on Dr. Takeda. She had been hailed as The Keratoconus Slayer and I was desperate. I called, made my appointment, and entered one of the most efficiently ran offices I had ever blurrily seen. I could even send TEXTS! The staff was nice, patient, calm, and most importantly, friendly. After a few tests, a picture of the inside of my eye, she asked could I visit her second layer in HB. We ran a few more tests with even more high-tech machinery. She put some glowing liquid in my eyes and PRESTO! 20/20 vision baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I'd NEVER be able to say that. No pain, no surgery, just a pair scleral lenses, a doctor who loves what she does and cares about her patients. So, now I'm like her #1 fan, who will follow her wherever she goes. She may need to file a restraining order against me, but at least I'll be able to read it. if you're reading this Dr. Takeda, THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!
