We have been coming here for years and have always had a great visit from the front office staff to the Dr. They always take care of us and make our visit one to remember. As another review stated, they quoted a price, then raised it after the fact. (Here I naively thought it was just me) The people at the reception desk are incompetent, snarky dolts. They also never give me the right rebate forms for my contacts - if they remember to give them at all. Anyhow, my last visit I had a quote for 2 years worth of contact lenses. (4 boxes) They ordered them. Then when I went to pick them up, they raised the price on all 4 boxes on me. I requested to speak to Dr. Hutter, who was less than 10 feet away. They said that they could have him call me when it was convenient for them. Then they gave me a "take it or leave" attitude with the lens price, and also for the hassle I'd have to go through to get what I ordered at the price I was quoted. I paid what they demanded and swore I'd never return.....and over 2 years later, I haven't. I got sick of their constant shortcomings and bullshit. My family always went here, so I did too. My mother Martha still goes there, but I'm never coming back. They pissed off a 30+ year customer for the last time. Now I get a better price on exams, lenses and none of the incompetence or attitude that they gave me. Go overcharge someone else, arrogant fuckers. read more

had Dr. Joy for several years, and she is amazing! I have to leave because of the way the front desk staffs handle business. Before I left the exam, I purposely asked how much it would cost total if I ordered the contact lens with them. After checking with my insurance, one of the ladies told me 10 dollars copay and insurance covered the rest even the fitting fee, and still, some money left. But the day my husband picked up my lens, they charged him 45 dollars fitting fee. I was expecting daily disposal ones, but they gave him monthly disposal. I have no problem paying the fitting fees but hate to listen to lies. Short of staff is not an excuse in my case because when I was there, 3 ladies plus dr were working. Both Dr. Hutter and Dr. Nakabayashi are amazing. I prefer Dr. Nakabayashi more. I used to come here but I've noticed the staff at the front desk become more and more incompetent. I had an appointment scheduled and when I went in they said I had no appointment at all. I knew it was there fault because another lady came a few minutes after me and had the exact same problem. On the phone they told my mom we were eligible for new glasses or contacts with our insurance. But after all my waiting they told me oh you're not eligible for new glasses or contacts so you can't use your insurance??? Honestly I would still go back here if they fixed their staff. I came here Friday, February 21st. I saw his wife, Joy Hutter . She was absolutely AMAZING! I have tried so many different optometrists and LensCrafters over many years and I have never been happy. This is the 1st time I've been happy and excited for my new glasses! The office is really nice and State of the Art. The staff is FABULOUS! Kitty at the front desk was so personable and Michele was incredible! I honestly could not have asked for better! I was extremely pleased, relieved and excited! They researched my insurance coverage and had it all ready and knew which way to direct me. I will recommend this place to everyone I know! I've been coming here for two years now and I can say Dr. Hutter is the best optometrist ,out of the four different ones I've seen in the past, a long with his staff. When I first came here I informed him that the glasses I was wearing at the time were blurry ever since I got them from a previous optometrist. He immediately grew concern and knew right away that they didn't have an astigmatism prescription. Dr. Hutter made a new prescription and it was the most crisp pair I'd ever had. During my recent visit, spot on with the prescription again, and this visit I asked for contacts. (In the trial faze of them currently, but when I had them on they felt so much more free!) read more

I've been coming to this office to see Dr. Hutter for a few years now. I get my annual eye exams and, as I got older, I started to need glasses. Every time I visit all of the staff is always welcoming and pleasant and Dr. Hutter always greets me nicely and his is thorough in his exams. I've never had a long wait time, they actually get me in quicker than I expect at a doctors office. The checking in process and paperwork is done electronically through a tablet which is nice and convenient. They have many different eyeglass styles to pick from, everything from basic to fancy! They are patient with me trying on many styles to pick what is right for me. I get prompt notifications when my glass are ready and I can get scheduled quite quickly without having to wait an extended period of time for an appointment. I am absolutely pleased with this office, in fact, I have moved and am willing to drive the 21 miles from Newport Beach to Cypress to stay with this office. read more

I haven't been here since I got my glasses two years ago ,but I decided to go in today because I found my glasses slightly crushed and so loose at the hinges. Somebody had sat on them at my family party the day before. I'm blind as a bat , have had glasses since high school, and I don't know how I would function without them. My mom believes contacts are the devil and that they will somehow get lost in your eye and make you blind. I've tried to reassure her time and time again ,but she says "stick with the glasses, kid" Anyways the staff here is what gives this place 5 stars. 2 years ago Dr. Joy Nakabayashi helped me out with my prescription and she was such a lovely and kind person. Michelle ,I believe that's her name, dark haired lady in the front desk is such a sweetheart. I came in today to fix my broken glasses, I called ahead of time to ask if they had repair services and she said that they can repair glasses ,but it will depend on how damaged the glasses are. I went out of the door praying I wouldn't have to get new frames because of how much it would cost me. The life I want to live is not in my budget right now so I am not about to pay $250-$300 for designer glasses that I love. I wasn't ready for that kind of commitment yet. She tried her best to fix it even though I bought the frames somewhere else. She told me of my options : 1) go back to wherever I bought the frames and see if the warranty is still effective 2) she really didn't give me a second option she just took a look at my glasses and told me to give her some time to see if she can fix it 5 minutes later... TA DAH! Glasses look brand new! It was like it was never broken. I asked her how much it would cost and she said , "Don't worry about it!" I was speechless. I thanked her countless times before I went out and let me tell you I was one happy camper. read more

A great place for eye exams and glasses. Good selection of stylish frames for any budget. My previous Optometrist was very good but had a lousy staff. So many screw-ups and bad customer service on the part of the support staff, I just stopped going. Fast forward to the present: I always get taken care of very well by Dr. Hutter and every member of the staff! My wife and son go for our annual exams and we are all very pleased with this office. Things get explained, I'm given options, I can make an informed decision and they help me picking out frames and are nice to all the patients. Sometimes I've gotten frames that were covered under insurance (reading) other times I splurge and go a couple hundred over what's covered because they have some really cool frames. I have been coming to this office for over thirty years and have always had good service. Ralph and Joy are both great and their staff is very helpful and friendly, (especially Michelle!) I love their selection of frames and dark glasses. I have succumbed to buying several pair of unique sunglasses over the years and love them! Dr Joy is the best. She adjusted my prescription so I had a comfortable vision distance for my up-close vision. She said you are a big man and have long arms. (Yes, I am 6'6.) So she adjusted accordingly. WOW!! What a difference. I have low back stenosis pain and always had a problem with using my computer because I couldn't lean back in my chair. Now I don't have to be up close to the screen to see everything. And I can hold my devices at arms length. So much better. Reduced by back pain greatly. Our family has been going to Dr. Hutter for years. He is always friendly and helpful. We may not have seen him for awhile and he always remembers what we spoke about last time. I really like the glasses that they carry, wide variety of brands and Michelle (Office Manager) is great, always tells me the truth about how they look. I really trust them. We have bought so many pairs of glasses over the years and their always helpful when they need repaired or adjusted. We trust our eyes with Dr. Hutter and were happy with the care they provide. read more

Nice people but not competent. The will be very friendly and try to be helpful while giving bad prescriptions, losing orders, mis-ordering and charging more than the original estimate. If you do go, get everything in writing, don't expect it to be right the first time and always pick Dr. Nakabayashi NOT Dr. Hutter. read more

I've been coming to see both Dr. Hutter & Dr. Joy for years for typical eye exams and purchase of my RX eyewear and have been extremely pleased. Then I recently encountered a not so usual vision issue. Dr. Hutter saw me right away, did some testing & knew this was something I would need to seek further treatment for from a Neuro-Ophthalmologist. They referred me to someone who helped diagnose my condition immediately. This condition required some special eyeglasses and Dr Joy had these prism lenses made for me quickly. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am about this practice from their staff to their care for their patients no matter the issue. read more

those two yelpers really did me wrong. i'm trying really hard to like this place, but they keep falling short. first of all, they keep calling me "mister," when i'm clearly not. second of all, they can't get my name straight. third, i've gone in three times already and they can't seem to recognize or remember me AT ALL. fourth, i was told they close at 7:00, which led me to believe it would be no problem to swing by after work .... but they close at 7:00 ONLY ON TUESDAYS. our conversation went something like this: "your lens should be in by the end of the week." "what time do you close?" "we stay open until 7:00." "great. so i can swing by after work." last time i checked, tuesday was not at the end of the week. so i've had to call in sick from work twice already. (they don't do the lens "training classes" on weekends either) i can't believe i had such a bad experience here. i really was hoping my visit would be as *wonderful* as the previous yelpers. dr. hutter is really nice and friendly. he seems to know what he's doing. (but what do i know, this is my first optometrist) and sarah is competent and friendly as well. the front desk staff really kills it for this place. if it was just dr. hutter, sarah, and a halfway competent receptionist, i'd probably give this place 4 stars. i don't have my contacts yet, and no one seems to care. i'm waiting for them to call me and tell me they're ready, but they haven't. it's been over two months, by the way. read more

This place is great. The staff is friendly and honest. They helped me with my insurance and helped picked a pair of glasses that look fabulous. They carry Lafont frames which I LOVE! There funky but not too crazy and they look nothing like anything eles. I get so many complements from my glasses. It's a must see. You need to make an appointment to get in and there closed Wed and Sun. You need to make an appointment for the exam but if you just wanted to look at the frames you can go in whenever there open. read more

My daughter is always in need of something. They have come through every time. They have all the latest eye testing equipment and exams are very thorough. The office is clean and comfortable. They have a really good selection of top of the line frames, and Michelle is an excellent eyewear specialist with a fine-tuned ability to make spot on recommendations about which frames look good on your face. Well, as you can see if you're reading the other reviews, all (but one) give Dr. Hutter AND the staff at Cypress Optometry an excellent 5-STAR rating. I don't know what more to say about him and his front-office staff other than they are SO professional, coupled with a great sense of humor. If you appreciate humor and display it yourself, they will kindly reciprocate. If not, their demeanor can be as serious as you'd like. Another good aspect is that they are sensitive to your circumstances and compassionate as well. I've been a loyal customer FOR MANY YEARS and I have no desire to go elsewhere. Another thing as mentioned in one of the other reviews, they keep up with the latest frame designs. You can walk outta there looking "so sassy" or like an accountant if that's your pleasure. Obviously the one dissenting reviewer had a bad experience, but I can tell you this is not the norm for their practice AT ALL. If you live in the area, by all means give them a try. Dr. Hutter and his staff are very helpful, friendly and go above and beyond the scope of meeting the patients needs. This is the first time I have gone to Dr. Hutter's office and am totally pleased with the exam and service. Dr. Hutter did several eye tests that had never been done before. With these additional test, my eyesight has never been so great. I wear contacts and a new prescription was needed. They ordered my contacts, which should have been there in 5 days. I was leaving on vacation, the contacts had not arrived and the front office did everything to get my prescription. The supplier had made a mistake, they arranged to have part of my order shipped to my hotel while on vacation. The front office called to make sure I had received them. When I said no, Teresa stayed over to make sure that I received them. I have never had such wonderful and caring service. read more

I've worn glasses for 20 years. Been to half a dozen optometrists and tried costco once. After meeting Dr. Hutter 8 years ago I'll never go to another. I've gone here for a few years now, and the service has been lacking recently. I have to agree with Fritz D., that Dr. Hutter is really nice and friendly and he DOES seem to be a great doctor, but "the front desk staff really kills it for this place." Because the other doctor in this office is married to Dr. Hutter, when they go on family vacations, the place virtually shuts down. How can you get an eye exam when BOTH doctors are on vacation? I made an appointment for MONTHS ago, only to be called and told that the doctors will be on vacation and that I will need to re-schedule. You know what, no problem- I totally understand....everyone needs to go on vacation sometime, and because my exam is not an emergency, I was fine with re-scheduling, so I made an appointment for about 5 weeks later. SO, 5 weeks later, I show up for my appointment (THAT I TOOK THE DAY OFF OF WORK TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND WITHOUT MY THREE KIDS WITH ME) - and guess what.....the doctors (BOTH OF THEM) are on vacation AGAIN! The girl at the front desk seems surprised and confused when she sees me walk in and announce that I am there for my 9am appointment. Instead of immediately letting me know that there has been a mistake and that the doctors aren't there, she and another employee whisper in the back and worriedly check the computer together for 10 minutes before telling me that the doctors are on vacation and they "tried to call all the patients". TRIED???!!! When I let them know that this is the second time that the doctors have been on vacation for my appointment, her response was "Well, it's just hit and miss - we schedule appointments in advance and HOPE that the doctors will be here." REALLY? Well, my choice of optometry care is not going to be hit and miss. I will not be returning to Dr. Hutter, unfortunately, even though I really like him....the way they run their business just isn't going to work for our familly. read more

Dr. Hutter is a great man. But, I am highly disappointed at the treatment delay given to my mother. She has a lost vision in one of her eyes. She went to Dr Hutter on January 13th, 2018 and was given another prescription. I paid the money in full. But, no one gave me or my mother courtesy to call for delay in her glasses. I called the office, the lady I spoke with was pretty not nice. She kept on phone for over 20 minutes. And later she said her glasse will be ready the following week. No one called me, until I called again. Only to be told that the glasses is not ready after 2 weeks because "her lenses are too strong." My mother and myself perceived this statement as discrimination. Up till now, my mother is still denied of her vision. I received a call on Monday 2/5 that her glasses will be ready on 2/8. But, got another call that it will not be ready till next week. My poor mother is being supported physically now as they kept denying her if her vision. I am so disappointed....I hope this delay treatment doesn't happen to someone else! read more
