This review is a little bit late but definitely worth the read! Tried this gem Pizza place in August with my work friends! The menu has unique named pizza choices of all sizes and flavors! We all opted for individual pizzas, side salads & iced tea. Service and food was so excellent! I loved their house side salad with ranch, it was the freshest salad I've ever had at a pizza place! Went for a group outing, ordered around 7:15. We got garlic knots to start. Then we waited 2 hours for our pizza. It never came. We had to go ask and they said they lost our ticket. Their excuse was that it was busy and they just lost the ticket or our food got taken to someone else's table. Another person in our group also got their ticket lost. Seems to be a common thing here. Only excuse they offer is that they are busy. They were nice in handling the problem. They refunded us and we eventually got our pizza around 9:30. You could tell they felt bad about the situation. read more

Very glad to have this joint in downtown Norman. We ate at Pryor's on a Wednesday evening around 6:00. The joint was not crowded but it was steady throughout our visit. That said, the service was excellent. We never had to ask for water refills, our plates were bused quickly, and we were able to pay quickly as well. The server was friendly throughout our meal and had some good recommendations. The space has a cool design, with a combination of booth and table seating in addition to a bar when you enter. I recommend sitting near the pizza oven if possible. This thing is gigantic and impressive. It's cool to watch the chefs making the pizzas, which does not take long due to the extremely high temperature. Also, if you have kids, they will take them and give them a closer look of the oven. Highly recommended. To start we had the pork belly and pickles along with the formaggio fuso. Both were excellent but I would say the pork belly edges out the cheesy bread. The pork belly has a spicy and sweet glaze on it, it could use more heat for me but my 9 year old son loved it, so I get you can't make everything super hot. The pickles add a nice crunch and a bit of acidity. The pork belly is tender and has a slight crust from the sugar in the glaze, but it was prepared perfectly. Very good, definite re-order. The formaggio fuso is small pieces of bread that you dip in cheese melted with tomatoes and garlic. Very flavorful, I would also eat this again. But, if you are getting pizza for your meal this is kind of duplicative. I enjoyed it, but it's basically a cheese pizza for an appetizer. On future trips I will try the wings, I have heard nothing but good things about them. I went with the Okie burger pizza, which is served with ground beef, onions, pickles, and a mustard sauce. It is a unique pizza to be sure, and one I would order again. The crust, which is thin and has a slight chew to it, was perfectly cooked with a slight char but it does not taste burnt in the slightest. There is good distribution of toppings so that you get each topping in every bite, but there are not so many that the pizza crumbles under its own weight. I liked it and would order again, although on my next visit I will get a more traditional pie to try the red sauce. Very pleased with our first visit to Pryor's, we will be back soon. read more

I had a really high hopes for Pryor's from the website. From the moment, me and my family walked in no one greeted us, the girl, taking our order, had no knowledge of the menu. Our pizza was dropped off at our table while the kids were playing and we were at the bar. No one came back and checked on us after the pizza was delivered to the table. Two of the pizzas were burnt, and very greasy (Dripping off the pizza). We left Pryor's without a hello or a Thank you. The atmosphere was fun - lots of things to do but the pizza was the worst I've ever had in my life. The crust was soggy and wet and the toppings slid off when you tried to pick it up. We only had pizza so I can't speak to the other food offerings. All I can say is that we will never go eat pizza there again. read more

We have been looking forward to the opening of Pryor's for months. Living nearby, we are always happy to have more local businesses, and while we have several local pizza places, Pryor's is the only on Main St. and the only making coal-fired pizza. The short of it, my salad (Lemon Pepper w/mixed greens, arugula, toasted pine nut, dried cherries, black sesame, lemon vinaigrette), was incredible. I will definitely order it again! And the bites of pizza ordered by my dining companions (a spicy Flamethrower, meaty Italian Stallion, and veggie-loaded Farmer) were enjoyed by all! In addition to the salad and pizzas, we shared the Burrata Balsamico (fresh burrata cheese, pesto tomatoes, basil, balsamic glaze served with bread sticks), which was far more filling than anticipated. We took quite a bit of it home. But there is more to this business than tasty pizzas and salads... If you are fond of history or like a good story, read up on how this restaurant came to be. The family has been here recently spoke with a friend about the resurgence of activity downtown and choices that are made to restore a building or gut it and go modern. He shared how the owners of Pryor's discovered the original bricks were seemingly whatever was left--inconsistent layers of "different" that were stacked until there were no more. It is a nod to the past, to the sensibility and diversity that is the foundation of Norman--as are so many components of this special business. Now back to our first visit... The place was very busy on our Tuesday night visit, but the wait wasn't too terrible, 20 minutes or so. And the service was decent for a place that just opened, but does have room for improvement. Pryor's Pizza Kitchen Went in this Friday, so the place was pretty full. I got seated pretty quickly. The staff seemed friendly and professional. I got my beverage and order taken and then went to the restroom. When I came back my table was cleared. I'm glad food wasn't brought out yet. The server apologized and brought out another drink and setup. Funny start to the experience. The place was loud. The acoustics provided a little echo and the music was up. So naturally people had to be loud so they could have a conversation. The lighting made everything have a red hue to it so I couldn't scope out what other people were having on their pizzas. Of course , I wasn't there for the decor. I ordered the Not Your Fathers Sausage pizza. It took a little longer than expected. The sausage tasted like a light italian style sausage. The cheese and sauce complemented the sausage well enough. Even though it was made in a coal oven the pizza was flimsy when you picked it up. The outer crust made a convenient handle and the dough tasted good where it was crispy. For a $12, 10in pizza I wasn't that happy with it. It's a middle of the road kind of pizza. I'm going to see what happens over the next few months since they are fairly new. I hope it gets better food wise so I can change my rating. read more

This is a very preliminary review of Pryor's Pizza Kitchen since their official opening was only a few days ago. The location is right in the middle of Norman Downtown (it's a perfect spot for lunch) and it's convenient for lunch or dinner. The setup is a bit modest with two main dining areas separated by the restrooms. There is good natural lighting in the front dining area (perfect for foodies and instagrammers) to get some great shots. The back half has a steel (coal burning) pizza oven that is interesting to watch the staff manage the coals and pop out pies in only a few minutes. it's reminiscent of Spago or an Italian Neapolitan pizzeria. Directly in front of the ovens, you have the pizzaiolos dressing the pies and sliding them into the ovens. It's nice to see them at work crafting your pie. Behind the ovens is a fully functioning kitchen where they prep the rest of the food items but the main attraction is the pizza. The menu is quite simple (as it should be). The prices fall between the mid to high range. Each pie is about 10inches (so we're talking about a personal pan size with maybe a few slices left over). There are about a dozen appetizers and salads to select from $4 to $11 dollars. The smaller salads are sized appropriately for an individual. We had the Sooner Spuds (A homemade style potato chip topped with shaved parm, parsley, and lightly with truffle oil). The chips were crispy and seasoned perfectly. I wish the parm had been grated to provide more coverage on each chip but this does cater to those who aren't fans of parm. We ordered a few pies to split. We had the Mr. Adkins (the signature pie with red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, Calabrese chile, pecorino, and a white balsamic gastrique) and the Pryor's Pizza (a popular meaty pizza with red sauce, mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, bacon, sausage, garlic, and pecorino). The red sauce will come across as being very sweet. I picked up on some hoppy, IPA-esque flavoring in the sauce that was very strong in the sauce but it could have been the gastrique. They finely chop of the meats so they all tend to blend together in each bite. The saltiness of the meats does help balance out the sweetness (especially on the Pryor's Pizza). The sweetness can be a bit overpowering for some. The crust is amazing, very light - flavorful - crispy/crusty - rustic, especially on the edges. The center on one of the pizzas could have been cooked a bit longer to help give it some structure, but they were still working to get the temps hot enough on the coal-burning ovens. Once they get this down, I'm sure the pies will come out with a better consistency overall. For me the crust was the crowning piece of the meal. A good crust is hard to find and they do a great crust. The red sauce was a bit too sweet for me, luckily they have other options. I might ask them to go light on the sauce to see if that scales back on the overall sweetness. For a Neapolitan pie, I'm looking for a great crust, a very simple sauce of freshly crushed ripe tomatoes, and a good fresh mozzarella that modestly covers parts of the pizza. I like to have different flavors and textures in each bite. I think they should put a Margherita on the menu as a nice simple touch. Overall, I really liked the experience and would definitely go back again. read more

This isn't the pizza you want, but it's the pizza Norman, Oklahoma needs. So let's just all agree that there's no such thing as "bad pizza." That said, Norman doesn't have an upscale pizzeria, except for Volare near Campus Corner. And while that location has its own issues, Pryor's Pizza Kitchen (PPK) is a much needed addition to Main Street's far more hipster meal-scape. The bare-bulb, narrow-but-long location would fit right in NYC and the noise level is probably what you'd expect if you lived next to Yankee stadium on game day. The staff is young and vibrant, which gives the whole place a humming energy, but also makes it feel like a crowded subway station after a rock concert lets out. And the single-person bathrooms and booths that only fit two people make the claustrophobic feeling that much worse. The menu has salads, two sandwiches, and a bunch of interesting appetizers that I wanted to try, but let's be honest; you don't go to a steakhouse and rate the veggie platter, right? And, sadly, that's where PPK falls short. As you'd expect from a hipster pizzeria, they only serve personal pizzas from $10-$15 and soda/coffee/ice tea for $3. So a family of four is looking at a $60+ tab. The coal-fire oven is restaurant's claim to fame, but it doesn't make a noticeable difference over any other type of wood-fired pizza. However, let's be honest, it's unadvisable to take a date to the Cici's pizza buffet, and Hideaway Pizza doesn't have a full bar. So, while you can find better pizzas around Norman, PPK gives you all the thrill of New York City without having to keep one hand on your wallet (until the bill comes). read more

Came on Father's Day to give this new place a try. The vibe is very hipster but spot on for this area of Norman. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Restaurant was clean and interesting. There was red light above our table which reflects in the pictures of the food. For an appetizer we had the Sooner Spuds, which was a homemade potato chip with truffle oil and Parmesan cheese. They were very delicious but kind of felt like they were missing a dipping sauce. My husband and I shared the Mr. Atkins pizza. It was very great and the crust was perfect. The pizza was small but perfect for sharing with an appetizer for 2 people. My first time having coal-fired pizza, and it was incredible. The breadsticks were freshly cooked in the coal-fired oven and were served with a variety of sauces. We chose marinara and pesto ranch. Crunchy on the outside, chewy in the middle. Great textures. I got the quattro formaggio which was an explosion of cheese, as it should be. Used the leftover sauce from our breadsticks top dip the crust in. Hubby got the Okie burger pizza with mustard sauce, mozzarella, ground beef, chopped onion, and pickle slices. It tasted more like pizza than hamburger, but that's a good thing since it's the only hamburger pizza he's ever actually liked. Pizzas are about 10 inches and sliced into 6 pieces. Local beer selection, variety of wines and some good looking cocktails. Totally will come again when craving sit- down pizza in Norman. read more

Best thing on the menu: the chicken wings and Mac n' cheese bowls. The pizza was too doughy and bland. That's IF you get your food. We waited over an hour for Mac n' cheese and when we went to the front to ask about it, the worker put his finger in front of my husbands face and told him to wait. If you stand up without looking both ways, you might get run over by one of the teenage servers who don't slow down or say excuse me. I get it, it's a busy night and they're working their tails off. Not impressed at all. First off I'll say that I'm a grumpy old man and shouldn't have even tried Pryor's - especially when there were bunches of 8 year old kids running through the parking lot. The restaurant is extremely noisy - I know what should I expect from a "family" oriented business - but I couldn't hear anything over the crying kids. Restaurants are all about food and our pizza was terrible. I grew up on the east coast and I know what pizza is supposed to taste like - and its not a thin slab of cardboard that's never seen any tomato sauce and very little cheese. The mushrooms were overdone. Our sodas were cold but that was the best part of the evening. Pryor's might be okay for your folks who have never tasted a real pizza but this old Jersey boy makes his own and enjoys it. read more

Well, it's a cute environment but here's what I didn't like: someone else's lipstick on my tequila glass & the baked fudge which is described as a brownie is actually a mini chocolate bundt cake minus the caramel that was supposed to come on the "brownie". Ohhh Pryor's YUMMMM. I am a fan!! My parents and I were hanging out and decided to try somewhere new, I had heard good things from friends and I am glad we came here! Upon walking in there is a small bar with a few TV's and booths, then the main area is towards the back where you can see the beautiful pizza oven. The decor is great, chic and also incorporates a lot of Oklahoma history! The bartender was AMAZING, I'm terrible at names but she moved here from Tulsa and she did such a great job. GfWe opted to sit at the bar and watch the world series, and she was super busy but clearly a pro. She was great at balancing a busy shift and also helping us with great suggestions, she also knew a lot about the design/history/backstory and my parents LOVED IT! Like how the bar has the original metal from the first bridge in Norman, how cool is that?! I love repurposed materials being used! We started with a small Caesar salad and a melted cheese app, both were delicious. I am picky about Caesar salads and this did not disappoint! A very delicious dressing and big shaved parmesan, plus the croutons were really good. Normally I don't comment on croutons-but these were REALLY good! The cheese came on a hot skillet with a little basil and roasted tomatoes, it was way better than I expected and the bread that came it was soft and great for scooping up melty goodness. We tried the Not Your Father's Sausage pizza and the Early Bird. Both were soooooo good, I chose the early bird but honestly liked the sausage pie a bit more! The dough and crust were really tasty, they use anthracite coal for the ovens and it is low emission which is also a plus! The Early Bird had spinach, bacon, garlic, Oooh and a sunny side up egg it would be absolutely perfect for brunch!! Our bill with drinks, two apps and two pizzas was around $90 which seemed reasonable, especially for the quality!! We will definitely be back. read more

Finally got to check out the new location! The building is very cool. The food was solid however the pizzas were very small. Each pizza would be in between a personal pizza and a medium pizza. Also, there's only 1 size. You don't really know how much to order for you party, but for what we spent, we felt like we should have gotten more food. Hopefully they'll adjust the size of the pizzas and/or add sizing options. Also, just a note: you order at a counter at this new location, not from the table. read more

My coworkers & I decided to go out for a dinner outside of the office & went here. It was a great choice. There were long tables that were helpful so all of us could sit together & talk. We got there & 2 of us ordered the happy hour margarita. We figured it was probably $4 worth of alcohol - we were pleasantly surprised to be wrong about that. The margarita was delicious! I had pizza for lunch so I ordered the Jalapeño Candied Bacon Mac Skillet; it was so wonderful! The spice was there but it was not overwhelming. I had left overs that I was snacking on days later! Everyone else ordered pizzas & they all looked amazing! The waiter was great & very informative. When we left, we saw there was live music. Overall such a great place. First time here, and absolutely had high hopes. Then we entered what belonged to the Bee colony. Stepping outside meant challenging the queen Bee along with her soldiers. Management didn't seem to care, and we saw two toddlers get stung.. thank goodness neither seemed to be allergic to them, I couldn't imagine if they were. Bee problem! I understand outside area can be out of their control, but there are things you can do to help control the problem. Don't leave soda cans out for a hour , move trash cans out of public area and figure out ways to move bees to different areas so it doesn't impact customers. We had 2 children stung, requested refund for outdoor firepit ($15.00)so we could go inside and eat, manager said refund would depending on policy!!! We ended up getting refund on Fire pit fee, ate inside / food was good , but management argued with me second time. The food tasted good, but the overall experience was bad. Instead of ordering at the table, you have to wait in a long line at the door and the menus are up at the front register; so you spend all that time in line unable to figure out what you want. There is a menu on the wall, but you can only see it when you are in that specific spot in line. We had a large group that couldn't fit in the line, so we had to send everyone to a table and have them text their order to the person in line. We had to pull the menu up on our phones and it was really hard to read. You also can't see what drinks they have to choose from until you get to the register so everyone in our group had to have water because we couldn't get them all close enough to get drink orders in quickly. They did not plan well for a crowd that looked like what I would expect on a Friday night. It took over an hour for us to get our pizza because the "oven was busy" even though there were several empty tables. That was after spending 30 minutes in line to order. Also, the place was too loud for us to hear the person sitting across the table. The place looks cool, but it might help to put some sound panels around or pad the booths or something. I think it will be great when they work out the kinks, but I'm going to give it a while before we come back. The other thing that bothered me happens at a lot of places - I can't stand being asked to tip before I have even sat down. A tip amount is supposed to be based on the quality of food and service. I don't know what that will be like before I even sit down. I definitely do not think my experience here warranted the 22% tip that was the default lowest setting at the register. read more

Let me start by saying we have been regular customers for sometime and are usually very happy however, it really seems both the service and products have consistently gotten worse each time. This time I ordered a pizza for a tryout. I got there right at the time it was scheduled to be done. The pizza was so overdone and dry it was almost not edible. The crust was hard as a rock and so over cooked it tasted like biting into a rock hard cigarette. The cheese and toppings were extremely dried out. We couldn't stand to eat it except maybe the first bite or so of each piece that was in the middle. This pizza is not cheap and I would expect a better product for this price point. I am actually shocked they allowed this pizza to be served at this restaurant. Went for a second time and the service was even worse than the first time which is sad because the food is good. Noise level is off the chart! Went to Oder appetizers after placing our otitis's order and We were kicked out of line and told they were not allowing anyone to order food for at least 30-45 minutes due to the fact that the inadequate kitchen staff was too far behind. We watched at least 15 customers walk out of the door because they were also told that they could not order food. Absolutely the worse managed restaurant that I have ever been to. When we did get food the teenager never stopped at our table and just threw the food on the table and kept walking. No way in hell that we will be back! We did order pizza before they terminated the ordering process and it took 45 minutes to get us the pizza!
