Good local Italian restaurant. I usually go for lunch and the food and service are great. The gnocchi is my favorite. I also really like the decoration and the big windows. read more

Went to Provini after seeing it on a walk around Park Slope and Prospect Park, on a visit from Seattle. We entered a full hour before the stated closing time, and two other tables were inside with full dinners in front of them. The woman who would serve us gave a lukewarm "...yes...?" kind of greeting, and we asked if they were still serving dinner. Her response was, Yes, but they did close "Soon" and we could eat, "but not hang out after." Which is strange and very off-putting, but we'd liked the menu and were really hungry by that time. We ate outside, after verifying that didn't create additional hassle for them. We shared a decent enough bottle of wine, and each had an entrée. The lamb ragu was a different flavor, pretty tasty. My husband's steak was tough and grisly from the first bite, but he said it got better, and he enjoyed the salad underneath. Good thing we both found our meals edible, as the server never once checked back on how we were enjoying the meals, never followed up with additional water, and forget about small niceties like pouring the wine. At one point, the hostess walked outside and enjoyed a cigarette about 10 feet from our table. Check was presented immediately after our dishes were cleared, but we still had a bit of wine left. We requested they call us a cab, overheard them doing so from inside, and that it would be five minutes or so. They close at 11, it was about 11:05, and our cab was on its way, when were informed "We're closed now, you have to leave." We then had to awkwardly stand in front of the restaurant until our cab arrived. We aren't occasional diners and we are never rude or pushy with staff; we both have worked in restaurants. It is one thing to politely reject the person stumbling in 5 minutes before closing, but the attitude and rudeness here were way out of line. I hope they treat their neighborhood regulars better, as the local reviews seem undeservedly positive. read more

Since it's by the same owner of Bar Toto and Bar Tano, we had high expectations. We were disappointed. OK, so I can only talk about the bar. We had the worst bartender ever. We met our friends there. They were a few minutes ahead of us and had ordered drinks. When the bartender came over I just asked what my friend was drinking and order the same. The bartender told me I shouldn't order that as it wasn't very good. Right in front of my friend he had served it to. He walked away and brought three bottles for me to try that he said were better. Two of them weren't very good, but the third was fine so I went with it. It was 15 minutes before he was back with my drink. The bar wasn't even crowded. I hope it gets better, I do like the owner. Why do so many restauranteurs hire such lame staff?! We're in a recession! There are thousands of people looking for jobs! You can afford to be picky. read more

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. First the good: Restaurant is beautiful Bartender is friendly and knowledgeable Great beer selection Tasty primi dishes. They tasted like they were made with fresh ingredients, and had a good, simple home made feel about them And the less positive: Panna cotta had way too much gelatin--tasted like milk jello servers were a bit inattentive-I never got my bottle of Pellegrino (which ended up being fine when I considered spending $6 on water) and the couple next to us never got their salads Forget no high chairs, they don't have coat racks! They really pack people in, so having all these coats piled up on the bench made it really crowded. Now, I have to contribute to this whole kid-friendly/non-kid friendly debate. I'm 8 months pregnant and went here because I knew it would be hard to go once the baby is born. But you know what? Tough for me. There are plenty of places I can bring a baby to eat, and this restaurant sure didn't feel like a place where I would want to think about a kid. If my husband and I want to come here when the baby is born, we'll hire a sitter. What's that, sitters are expensive? Well I guess that means we'll just be too poor to eat there then, and we'll have to go somewhere else. I understand that I can't afford to eat a Le Bernadin now, and don't bemoan that, so if I can't afford to hire a sitter before eating a Provini, then too bad for me. And truthfully, if I had to hire a sitter to go out to dinner, I probably wouldn't choose Provini anyway. read more

We actually enjoyed our one meal here more than our one meal at Al Di La. It was about 9pm on a Tuesday night and we were having a quiet dinner for hubs's 30th birthday. The place was nearly empty - no seating troubles. The waitress was very friendly but not overbearing, and recommended a good wine. It's been a few weeks so I don't remember everything we had but I can tell you that while the pappardelle is bomb, the gnocchi ravioli stuffed with buffala mozzarella and covered in pesto and marinara, was RIDONK. And the prices were quite reasonable given the quality of the food. read more

I just nursed two beautiful beers over a phenomenal bowl of lamb fettuccine. The food is always great and the people who work at Provini are very well mannered and attentive. I payed more then I wanted, but that area of of Park Slope (near Windsor Terrace) is severely lacking in euphoric culinary moments, well that is with the exception of Provini. read more

I don't understand all the negative reviews. The food was great. The wine was good and the price was right. We went to Johnny Mack's last week and the food was way over priced.... And bad! This place always performs well. read more

Wow, not sure I have ever seen yelpers so divided before! Well, I have been twice and had a great time on both occasions. I did go kind of late for dinner both times, which may have contributed to the calm and the attentive service. Every drink and dish I have tried there has been delicious, and the prices are reasonable for NYC italian. Best points: food, atmosphere. No explanation for why my experience differs from some other reviewers so much. read more

Underwhelming and overpriced. The food ranged from OK (lamb pappardelle) to inedible (fish stew) but at prices nearing the $20 range, we will not be returning. The slow kitchen and inattentive waitstaff don't help matters. Fine for a glass of wine at the bar, but otherwise incredibly mediocre. read more

I took my girlfriend there Friday night. We got a drink at the bar ..my girlfriend ordered us cherry beer. Once they told us that our table was ready, we went to be seated. We waited for more than 10 minutes (without any place settings or anything else on our table) and finally the waitress took our order. Our appetizers came, yet we still have not gotten a place setting (not even water). How were we supposed to eat our appetizer without any utensils? We had to ask for a place setting. Our entrees were good. Gf had Branzino and I had the special pasta. Both were delicious. Service was disgusting. Will never go back. read more

This place is beautiful, the food is good, yet unspectacular, and the service is borderline abysmal. My wife and I went on a Saturday night a little after 9pm. The place was about half full, with one table for two that was empty as well as the two larger tables on the ends. We were told by the unfriendly woman who "greeted" us that "someone was waiting" for that empty, clean and set up table for two. No info on how long the wait might be, no "If you like, you can have a drink at the bar and we can seat you in 20 minutes." - nothing. As we were starving, and determined to try this adorable place mere blocks from our apartment, we took a seat at the bar and were handed menus by the friendly, but ultimately useless, bartender. Perhaps we were already turned off by the waitresses behavior, but the fact that the bartender didn't ask us if we wanted something to drink when he handed us the menus was made worse by the fact that it took him another 10 minutes to take our order despite the tiny, uncrowded bar he was "tending". Thankfully the food came in a reasonable span of time and was pretty good. We both got salads, that in hindsight were the strongest part of the meal. The lamb ragu with white truffle oil was pretty tasty, although the lamb was overcooked and the seafood soup was nice, yet unspectacular. Both were quite expensive for the portion size, though. Throughout our meal we were never asked how everything was, if we needed salt, pepper, cheese, etc...nor was there ever an offer to refill my long-empty glass of beer. We left no longer hungry, but seriously bummed that the shit service had turned a decent meal into a frustrating and ultimately unpleasant experience. Note to the owners: Lower your prices (or step up the quality of the food) and replace your entire front of house staff and I'll give you guys another shot. read more

Beautiful old world charm. Tin ceilings and a rustic bar that makes me feel like the cafes in Italy I've spend many hours enjoying. Staff are lovely and helpful. Food....the bfast & lunch selections are so good! Probably the best paninis in the area! But my fav is sitting at the bar with a friend eating the cold plates of roasted veggies, cheese and a salad. Comfy cosy warm inviting. The dinner menu isn't as enticing for me. I hope they expand it as they grow. Great neighborhood place! read more

A hidden gem in Park Slope. I love the other restaurants in the family - Bar Toto & Bar Tano - and I like Provini because it's off the beaten path. It has a great ambience that's a throw-back to Europe or old New York, with a staff to match. The food is delicious and not stereotypically Italian. Bar is limited to beer and wine but only because of the school across the street. read more

This place is small & loud, like most places are in the neighborhood. The food that we ordered was to die for. I had Saltimboca that was fabulous. My cousin had Gnocchi, which she raved about and my fiancee had the veal & pork ravioli. I tried those and they were exquisite. We did not have any appetizers or desert. I do need to give a bit of a critique though. A little more espresso in the cup would have been nice. The shot was just a tease. The waitstaff were good, and the overall experience was totally enjoyable. read more

The food is pretty good but over priced. Staff, not friendly. They want you to eat and get out. The one positive was the atmosphere, which was very romantic. This was actually the place where I met my girlfriend for the first time, and everything about my first meeting with her was magical (all thanks to her), just wish Provini hadn't kicked us out after an hour, apparently they put a cap on how long you can stay. read more

Just had a delightful meal with a friend. Low-key ambiance, a really friendly waitress, and one of my favorite pasta dishes in Park Slope thus far. I forget the name but it was a firmer saucer-shaped pasta with broccoli rabe, nuts and parmesan. It was generous with the rabe, which I loved, and the pasta texture was unique. Glad these guys are in the neighborhood. read more

Meant to update my review from last year or even over a year - spent anniversary #2 here and it BLEW ME AWAY!! Had the hanger steak (grass fed....) with so many incredible veggies and a romesco sauce it was delectable! Cannot wait to go back!!! Oh and the burrata was incredible too! read more

GREAT wine list. Really nice staff, very cozy location. Unique for the area, I love it.

A couple weeks ago, I went for a stroll through Prospect Park and emerged hungry and unfamiliar with the area. Luckily, I stumbled upon Provini and it was fate! The restaurant is small so the ambiance is intimate and well-suited for a date or catching up with a friend. There is also outdoor seating, which is always a plus in my book. The service was excellent as well. We sat at the bar and Igor, the bartender, was super attentive and made some great suggestions on the menu. I had the ravioli of the day, which was delicious and fresh. All the pasta is homemade so I will definitely be back to try more! read more

I would give this place more stars if the service was better. I went in here with my boyfriend Friday night for dinner. We sat at the bar for fun and because you usually get fast and friendly service this way. But we didn't. The food was really, really good (I ordered the pasta with white wine sauce and lamb) and the atmosphere is very classic European. The service - at the bar anyway - was really crappy. The guy barely paid any attention to us. When we asked for refills he acted annoyed. When we asked for his POV about the dishes we were torn about, he acted annoyed. And he was on his cell phone 90% of the time. Just rude and not inviting on any level. I can't comment on the table service, but if you want to come here DO NOT sit at the bar. read more

Saltimbocca is very tasty and well made as is the eggplant lasagna and duck we had on special once. A bit on the pricey side for the portions (particularly the ravioli), but the ingredients are quality and the attention to detail is nice. The service reminds me of Italy: nice people, mediocre service. I don't mind as they seem to be off the boat and that's how they roll on the boot (at least from my experience). It's never been offensive and the people are generally accommodating. I will say though, getting bread without asking is a bit of a lottery. At this cost, I often make the extra hike down to Aliseo (better wine, more adventurous food), but Provini is certainly not bad. We visit pretty regularly. read more

My husband couldn't stop saying "mmm" through the entire meal. The food preparation was superb. The decor and ambience of the restaurant, transporting. read more

What a great place! I went there today with some friends for a glass of wine (we had a delicious rose for $40), and a salad. Our server was really friendly and accommodating (there were 5 of us, with babies!), and the prices were quite reasonable. Good coffee, good desserts too. It's a cute, laid back spot. read more

Great. Love the Roman cuisine and the welcoming staff. Ask about the specials. DELISH! The white marble bar and the super wine list makes this place a must for foodies. A real find. Never disappoints! read more

Super cute. We had brunch here. The foods is delicious, the cocktails are great and the ambiance is spectacular. 10/10

Hovering owner made everyone uneasy including our waiter who for the love of god would not stop up selling! Even brought a desert we didn't order because he said we had to try it. Then tried slipping it in or $260 bill for a group of 4! Sorry the food was eh and the service meh. Too bad because the atmosphere is nice. Still don't understand how Bar Toto got it so right and this place so wrong. read more

*Atmosphere - 5 stars *Immediate seating with no reso - 5 stars *Server at the beginning of the meal offering tonight's specials - 5 stars *Server taking wine order - 1 star for being a condescending a hole when *I mis read a wine varitel and she 'kindly pointed it out to me in front of my guest by making me look ignorant *Asking if the Bucatini was a good choice - or what did she recommend - 1 star "What ever you like, it's good"- lame answer *Hovering over our table and asking to remove our plates 3 + times while we were obviously still eating (as our forks were neither in the criss cross or 4 o'clock position) 2 annoying stars *buss boy who was so incredible for seeing my table was not properly marked for my dish and getting me a fork in time - 10 stars. We would have ordered dessert, but it was obvious from the loud banging by Miss server and her salt shakers or what ever she was merrying in the back, that she was over ti and wanted to go. The only reason I tipped 20% is that I was hoping the bus boy and the kitchen would get most of it - It's a shame too - it could have been better. Loose the attitude lady. read more

Wonderful food with real Italian vibes in a lovely Brooklyn setting. The prices are a bargain considering the quality of the food, which is top of the line. If you want to visit Italy without leaving Brooklyn you'll have to try this charming local restaurant. The wine list is eclectic, yet affordable. What an amazing experience we had at Provini, we found a gem! read more

I live nearby and watched the owners painstakingly renovate this space and eagerly awaited their opening. When they finally did open, I stopped in and had a very nice meal with very friendly service at the bar. I even met the owner and congratulated him on the opening and complimented the great service and food. I was so underwhelmed by his aloof response that I was actually sorry I went. I have never been back even though it was barely 1000 ft from my home. I doubt I will return but I encourage others to give it a try. Its very good food if a little pricy and has an excellent wine selection. This is a welcome neighborhood hangout as long as you're not hanging out with the owner. read more

This place was always good for date night. The atmosphere of European Bistro is romantic and the lighting is perfect. Marble table tops and bentwood chairs, lovely. We have been here a 100 times. The food is ok no better or worse than anywhere else, the wine list is the same. But we always enjoyed coming here for the whole experience. But then one night I ordered a meal which was awful - no better than my neighborhood pizzeria. When I sent it back after NEVER having done that before and after having always left over generous cash tips the waiter/host (who knows us pretty well) was obviously insulted and proceed to openly degrade me needless to say we haven't been back. I now choose to spend my hard earned money elsewhere. read more

My boyfriend and I were in Manhattan/Brooklyn this past weekend celebrating our one year anniversary, and after several disappointing dining experiences in Manhattan we decided to give Provini a try. I am a picky eater, but my bf is more adventurous, so we started with the octopus. Absolutely delicious. Then we tried the Grigliata. Amazing. I could have eaten three plates of this. For the final course he had Gnocchi and I had the filet mignon. He practically licked his plate clean and it broke my heart that I couldn't finish the whole steak (it was huge compared to what you expect when you order filet mignon). The restuarant is beautiful with a wonderful atmosphere. The whole waitstaff was great. Our server was friendly, funny and happy to explain the menu to us. It made the whole experience that much better. We ordered cheesecake and tiramisu to go since we were there kind of late for a Sunday and were the last patrons in the restuarant. Both were amazing. I wouldn't recommend ordering that much food for just two people, because it was a LOT! (But you have to remember, we had been walking around the city for three days hungry). My boyfriend's italian grandmother would have been proud of the food at Provini. We sincerely hope they will consider moving down to Atlanta so that we can eat there more than once a year! Loved, loved, loved it! read more

I had such high expectations for Provini, with a friend who lives just down the block and goes there all the time. They are known for great food and really good service. We went and sat at the bar since it was a long wait for a table. When our orders arrived mine was wrong and I gently spoke up to our server who said a little loudly "you can't eat it like that?" Trying to embarrass a customer does not get you high marks. Not wanting to seem like a jerk, and not wanting them to spit in my food, I "ate it like that." Which was a mistake because apparently I then looked like a pushover. We were not offered coffee or dessert at the end of the meal, and it felt like they rushed to give us the check. We had someplace to be so we weren't sitting for an hour or anything, just eating and leaving. Like many New Yorkers I am used to great food and great service and when either is lacking, I tip accordingly. I gave a tiny tip, actually an embarrassing amount under normal circumstances. Normal being great food and great service, the only way restaurants survive in New York City. Fast forward to receiving my credit card bill and the server had the nerve to actually ADD extra money onto the tip I had left, more that tripling it. Fraud does not get you high marks, and neither does theft. After a brief call to my credit card company in which I sent them my receipt and explained the situation, they refunded me and did a chargeback to Provini. The saddest part of this experience is that I called Provini and spoke to the manager, explaining this situation, giving the date and time and even the transaction number from the receipt along with the name of the server. He made no offer to keep me as a customer. I said to him that perhaps the overcharge was a mistake but I thought it was important to bring to his attention since it was dishonest. Now I read other reviews complaining of the same issue. The manager listened and thanked me. That was it. No apology, no offer to come back and get a dessert or even coffee or anything. This is not the way to make amends for a problem. After this dishonest behavior and no real try at reconciliation, how can I trust that my credit card number isn't being copied down or excess stuff being added to my bill or other dishonest behavior at this place? The food was good but not amazing. The service was, well, judge for yourself. And even when I gave an opportunity to turn things around, they did not. I am underwhelmed, Provini. read more

My FAVORITE brunch place in the Slope! The French Toast is to die for, as are the carmelized apples on the side, the pancakes taste like...cake, the coffee is amazing.
