I am not computer savvy and I kill computers or sometimes just their parts and accessories. My mom directed me to Providence Computers after they had helped her and fixed her computer issue, and she directed me to them when my computer just stopped working. Like I said, I'm not computer savvy, but I know a thing or two about stuff and things. My friend who knows a few more things about computers built this computer for me and all of his computers work properly, but he purchased his personal computers from a bitg box store, and the others are work computers owned by his employer. He is computer savvy and if he was able to build me a computer, I'm pretty sure he might know what he's doing. Which is good, cuz I don't. Everything was working fine until it wasn't. I loaded my desktop in my car and went to Providence Computers. I lugged my computer into the store, disclosed that I'm computer retarded to the 2 employees and told them my computer went catatonic and asked if they could help me. EMILY and her coworker were very polite, professional and compassionate interacting with me; I'm sure they were able to see and understand frustration and anxiety I was carrying when I walked in their store; my anxiety was heightened and my adrenaline was pumping after almost having a head on collision with a Walmart customer that din't even try to stop at her stop sign where the WAWA Entrance/Exit, Walmart Parking lot entrance/exit and the road leading directly to the storefronts are. Her Expeditionsurion would have ruined my day and my car if I hit the brakes and stopped for her Royal Great Valueness. But these employees were kind and compassionate to me and the manic state Her Royal Great Valueness had put me in. Long story short (TOO LATE!!!), my keyboard kicked the bucket. They were able to set me up with a replacement, get me squared away and earn my future business and problems. My dad put together an Amazon Wishlist for me after showing me his new computer. I thought he was screwin' around when the only thing on his desk was a key board, mouse and moniter. We all know I'm computer stupid, but I'm not computer dumb. Apparently, the CPU/motherboard was mounted on the back of the monitor. I TOLD HIM I NEEDED THAT IN MY LIFE. He created the wishlist and I bought the CPU and casing attachment and would use my existing keyboard/mouse and monitor. Everything comes and I'm screwing everything together and everything's just going swimmingly until I unscrew and disconnect the monitor cable from the desktop and go install it into the new CPU. And it would not go because it didn't fit. My cable had the tightening pins you screw in to pretty much torque the connection receptcle down into on both ends, but one end had pins that telescoped in an out, and the other end's pins were fixed and the same length as the connecting receptcle; without the pins being able to telescope, the connecting receptcles would not meet, seat and connect. I jumped in the car to fight rush hour traffic and headed directly to Providence Computers. They have my trust, faith, business and problems. I recognized EMILY from my last visit, and I told her she had helped me before when my keyboard went catatonic. Not sure if she recognized me as I looked like I had been pushed down a flight of stairs, but as I began to reiterated my entire previous visit, she remembered my stupid ridiculous weird random keyboard death. After having to go back to my car for my phone to show her the picture I took of this new weird crazy stupid issue, she got me squared away and had me heading out the door, off to kill some computers in less than 5 minutes. EMILY is one of those Superhero's out there that doesn't wear a cape. Polite, professional, knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. Now I've been told I can be a bit long winded and ramble on like a mofo, but Emily respectfully listened to me and all info and details I gave and knew EXACTLY what the issue I was having was and what needed to be done to fix it. Gentlemen on the phone said they typically don't carry stuff for monitors, more so laptops, but he insisted I bring the monitor in to try out their stock. When I stepped inside Mark, the one i was on the phone with, recognized me from the conversation we had about 1 hour prior. He was determined the get me right pretty much by trying many various adapters until Randy came out and tried helping out as well. Came to the store to buy a cable to connect my power supply to my graphics card. I knew exactly the cable I wanted and when I brought it to the counter to buy, one of the workers burst out from the back room and continued to chew me out for not knowing enough about computers. He claimed I would fry my computer, complained about having other costumers wanting to buy the same product, but was more than happy to suggest I buy a whole new power supply as an alternative. HP desktop wouldn't wake up, on restart: no boot and loud cooling fan noise. Came in and dropped off the unit for 24hr service since I run my business from that computer. Within 2 hours, Josh called me and told me the problem, blown mother board. He then gave me a few options, I picked one, computer was ready by the end of the day, plugged it in at home and aside from being much faster, it was exactly like nothing ever happened. Plus he gave me a trade in on my HP and took the old hard drive out and set it up to automatically back up the solid state one in the new computer. Oh, Providence Computers is fantastic! I needed to replace my antique laptop, but couldn't afford a new one. So Mike showed me one of his refurbished computers. I liked the first one! He moved all my files to the new one. That saved me SO much time. I ran into some problems getting it set up at home to my printer. I received immediate help. I have used Providence Computers several times in the past four years as I am technically challenged when it comes to computers. The staff are always professional, courteous and provide excellent service. My recent experience was with Mike Karslake and he offered me some excellent advice. My hard drive had crashed and after determining how I use the thing and the age of my current pc, he recommended fixing it as a less expensive way to get the unit back up. He was able to recover all of my files from the crashed hard drive. Due to physical limitations, I always have them come to my house even though they always tell me it would be less expensive to bring in my unit. Big mistake coming to this place, and Im regretting every minute of it. They put on a nice front, bible verses on the invoice, even initial communication is pleasant because they will give you an estimate of the work and how long it might take. I knew what was needed when I came to the store to get my computer fixed and they were supposed to do only that. When i had my computer returned to me i had more issues than i did before i brought it in. I took it back the next day and was told we did what we were supposed to do but ill be happy to take it back and see what else is wrong with it. Of course they would say that and hit me with another 130 dollar bill. I despise places like this, greedy and untrustworthy. I thought supporting a local business like this would do some good. That maybe i would get better service and not just a bunch of crooks breaking your stuff to get an extra buck. Stick to geek squad or any other business than this. Started to build my own personal gaming computer and searched every where for a local store that sold parts. After doing some research I couldn't find any place. Talked to a fellow Co-worker and he informed me of Providence Computers. He claimed that they had the parts I would need and at a great price if not equal to. So I went to Providence Computers for a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb because Best Buy nor hhGreg didn't have the items. The place had a steady flow of customers, handled one at a time. It was surely timely waiting for your turn but the time came after three other customers were taken cared of. I asked the clerk behind the desk if they price match at all, because after looking around waiting for my turn I noticed that they were a bit expensive. Not big deal! This is a local business - surely they will lower the price to accept a price match. Sadly, they didn't even try. The Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB is only $175 online, add shipping you are hitting around $180-$200. They selling it for $20+ Glanced at other products and all are being sold for around 20% more than items are sold online. Best Buy price matches, Newegg does, hhGreg does, pretty much every place but here I suppose. I gladly turned around and gave the money to Amazon who would gladly take my $180 and the product will be here in two days or less. Recommendation: If you need a part right away, go to Providence Computers, although you will be paying more for being impatient. Other than that, shop online on either Newegg, Amazon, and Best Buy who price matches to their competitors or for less. I took my music server in , because it was freezing up, and would not work, not sure exactly what was done other then, maybe going through all the basics, checking all the connections to make sure all memory was secure, and accessing the operating system theough windows, but they only charged me the check out time, and its been working great ever since. I've had my laptops serviced by Providence Computers since they were at the old location across from the Farm Fresh. Always very satisfied with their repairs, and knowledge. This year I decided to retire my laptops and get a couple of towers built. I chose Providence Computers because I had been very happy with my past experiences....and I was very happy with the fact that I could actually go in and talk to someone about my needs. I explained what my computers were used for and they steered me to the right computers. Both computers were built and perform very nicely. Quite satisfied. An interesting thing to note......they did not try to steer me to higher priced computer assemblies.....they told me which computer levels would satisfy my needs.....so I got great performance at a great value. As far as prices go.....they are comparable to the big box stores. Software is pretty much a price match....some of the hardware is a little more......I did have one cable that they supplied that was a bit wonky......I called and talked to Joe......he said, "Just drop it by, we'll give you a new one". I have been building my own computers since 2007 and I have been modifying them even longer. I mostly buy my parts online but when I needed parts that day, I always had to go to Best Buy. That all changed when I heard about Providence Computers. I came in to see what the store had available and I was immediately impressed. Everything was well organized, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and everyone (including the owner who happened to be there) was very professional when speaking to me. Now it is no secret that buying parts online is normally cheaper but for some common devices such as hard drives, routers, various PCI/PCI-e cards, and computer cases they are prices fairly. I would easy buy from here instead of Best Buy every time as their prices are equal or even lower once certain computer hardware. I often build computers and give them away to people who need them but can't afford them. It was nice to find Providence Computers had a very large used section of tested parts and components that I typically use in the machines I give away. Building a computer that is worth owning can be expensive without charging people so it was nice to find a store that can provide quality used parts for very reasonable prices. The only thing that I couldn't find at the store was a 5.25" Floppy Drive. It was unsurprising, but I had hope. That staff was exceedingly knowledgeable in all manners of computer topics that I brought up with them. I even learned a few things just talking to the people there. All and all I plan to keep using Providence Computers if I ever need parts or components fast or if I need to put together a discount build so someone can have a computer to use. read more

Took in a Desk Top for virus and other unknown problems. The hard drive had to be replaced + $149.95 Diagnostic / virus cleaning fee. The CPU came home and developed the same problems in less than 10 days (no Facebook or social sites used). Returned it again when our schedule permitted. Same $149.95 diagnostic / cleaning fee. New problems with registry errors developed this time. I went TAD & wife took it back in because problems would not let here online. Laptop tech got it online in the office & returned it to my wife w/o charge. She got it home and in less than 24 hrs. had the same problems as the last "visit". Wife went home to family and took CPU to our repair guy. Problems that were found: 3277 Registry errors, 28 browser hackers, 32 viruses, 810 tracking cookies. Only $141.00 for these repairs at home!!!! Oh, Providence is kind enough to give 1 week warranty to have CPU back in doors for work. Home tech gives 30 day warranty. Providence would not refund $149.95 unless other tech would supply an itemized list of dates the 3277 Registry errors, 28 browser hackers, 32 viruses, and 810 tracking cookies were added to the problem list. Seriously, they didn't provide me with the same itemized list w/ dates on any of the trips I came in and paid for. read more
