I applied all the DIY tricks in my pocket, to no avail. I was hopeful it could be saved because I was receiving text messages...but concerned bc screen was unresponsive. At TechFix. They offered immediate "while you wait" support and a reasonable fee to replace screen ($60 - parts and labor). Technician tried 3 different screens, but still could not get phone to respond. DX = fried motherboard. All hope lost. But, when I asked the fee, they said ZERO dollars. No charge for their time. Then, they kindly pointed me to swappa.com for used iPhones. A perfect event would have included repaired iPhone, but darn, this was "near" perfect. Great folks. And I got to meet Fenway, their little Boston Terrier. (No question here about fan.)

And its rare when they can't fix something in their swim lane." Replacing a battery in a Samsung Gear3 watch from 2018 that had become a brick isn't a typical phone repair. But in less than a week they'd ordered the part, replaced it, and did an op test to ensure it worked. And, it does still. Also, please please don't be the idiot consumer that avoids a place because English is a second language for some staff. Do you speak multiple languages? Do you have to endure xenophobic shunning? There was no way to remove the battery & stop the beeping. The display indicated it had reached the end of its life. Everything I found in research was for units whose battery could be replaced. FINALLY I found a Reddit post for the same model which detailed how to stop the beeping. Whewww.,.... The next step was to find a location that would accept it for recycling since it couldn't be disposed of with regular trash. The city, even the 2nd Precinct Police Station, was absolutely no help. Finally.....I found this close business & it was still open. I called Mr. Fix, telling him what I had, and he confirmed that he would take this evil device that had ruined my afternoon. The outside of the store was well maintained with nice signage & tasteful advertising on the windows. Entering the store I found a clean, neatly organized business with a friendly man behind the counter. He immediately knew who I was, probably from my still present vestiges of the continuous beeping stress. He immediately popped open the sealed compartment, removed the battery & cut out a capacitor. We discussed his personal projects that I know require soldering skills that are hard to find in today's generation. Having been in the electronics repair business for 25 years, I recognized him as someone who was competent in his skills & enjoyed electronics repair. Although my experience with the business was in electronics recycling I would feel comfortable with his working on my beloved iPhone & iPad. I'm happy that he will make use of the components in devices recycled with him (not in Phones or Tablets, of course). They won't end up in a garbage dump. The location is in the strip shopping center located on the southeast corner of the intersection on Pleasure House Road & Shore Drive. Parking is adequate. I found a space directly in front of the business. This is a business I would highly recommend for electronics recycling. From my observations of his care & work on the circuit board of the evil unit that I had abandoned, I would think he showed equal care on devices brought to him for repair.

I stopped by Friday to pay my bill while a coworker upgraded to the iPhone 4. When I first walked in the place was packed for an 11:30 on a Friday. All of the sales associates were with customers and I was greeted by a sign in sheet on a podium. A quick glace around the store and I saw the computer payment station so went there before it was assaulted by the steady stream of people following in from lunch. "The Good" - JP (Retail Sales Consultant) took care of my coworker and the man knew his stuff. Very professional, multitasking without making his customer feel like he was abandoning them to deal with someone else and at the same time making everyone know that you would be taken care of. Honestly, the best customer service I have seen in VA in a very long time. When you end a transaction with a handshake you know the man takes pride in his work. - The rest of the staff were also fantastic. They worked as a team. When one of the girls went in the back to get something JP asked her to bring back the phone my coworker was buying. She listened in stride and I swear I never saw her come back out but a few seconds later the phone was on the counter and she was back with her customer at the front of the store. - They have a decent selection of the latest and greatest phones and basic accessories. - I was also impressed when JP said that they would install the screen guard for no charge when my coworker complained that every time they tried there were bubbles. Little things like that will make people come back to the store no matter what they are selling. - The patience of the staff when dealing with difficult customers. Kinda similar to the goofball that was in the store, on the phone with customer service talking above the normal range so he could be heard asking "How do I cancel my account?? What is the charge to cancel my account today??" They waited until his name was called in order and dealt with him the best they could. - All in all it was a great experience and they were bumped up from four to five stars after I reread this for the customer service alone... "The Meh" - There is no real long term need for me to regularly visit an AT&T store, unless I wanted to run a "How To" on how to treat people. I may come once a month to pay my bill just so I can people watch for a few minutes though. "The Bad" - When you walk into the place there really is a sign in sheet, but a person letting you know that you can sign in or use the computer terminal would be better.
