Alongside our liquor happy hour (ranch water and old fashions) drinks at this place is so reasonable We got the pimento cheese- freaking to die for, smokey, homemade and made with tasty cheddar cheese! We got the deviled eggs and they were super tastey but also had a bit of sweetness to it that I personally don't love but they were well seasoned and maybe if it was a sweet heat I would've loved em! The crispy chicken salad was split before it came to us which was such an awesome, thoughtful touch in the service! Sierra did such a great job checking on us and making sure we were well taken care of! Everything was so cute form the decor to the great tasting food and the good selection of $5 happy hour wine! I've been meaning to check out Provender Hall and Clay Pigeon as I had heard wonderful things about chef Marcus Paslay and enjoy supporting local. Started out with a reservation to let them know ahead of time that we'd be coming for dinner. Valet was convenient and we were greeted at the door and seated almost immediately on the second floor. One thing I noticed upon being seated was that we had no silverware. It was a busy Saturday night, we could visibly see the other severs hustling to put together silverware and napkins for the guests. Our server Matt came by and took our drink orders and we also ordered a cornbread appetizer to start. The cornbread came out almost immediately by a food runner. Our drinks and silverware were no where to be found. After about 15 minutes, Matt came by and realized we needed some attention. He brought out a new appetizer as well as silverware. He also had the bar make our drinks. He apologized for the chaotic start, but was more attentive after that. This was not really Matt's fault as he also had a 15+ person table that he appeared to be working solo. Poor decisions on the floor managers behalf. I've had experience working in a restaurant and this seemed like a chaotic time for everyone involved. Drinks included a PH Old Fashioned, La Pinata, and Prairie Frappe. I'd recommend the La Piñata again. I ordered the steak frites. The chimichurri sauce on the steak was perfection and left me wanting more. My spouse ordered the shrimp and grits. The blend of spice and grits was soooo good. Both were excellent. Chef Paslay knows what he's doing in the kitchen -- unfortunately the rest of the experience took away from that. The vibe seemed to want to be upscale, but with concrete walls and floors, everything is loud and echoes can be heard throughout the restaurant. If you're looking for an intimate dinner or are wanting to celebrate and expect to have a conversation at your table without shouting, plan on coming here for lunch. The vibe at this place is fantastic. Lots of fun seating areas all throughout the restaurant too. I got deviled eggs as an appetizer which were so yummy and perfectly seasoned. Also for the fried okra and wow. They were full size okra which is different but buttery and perfect. Then I got the chicken fried steak. All just so good! We came to celebrate some milestones in my career and, unfortunately, we had a lackluster experience. We were quickly greeted and sat at a table on the second floor. Waters came out and drinks ordered without an issue. Then the troubles started. There was a delay getting our drinks after ordering them and then one of our drinks was incorrect, but not knowing how much longer it'd take for the drink to come out, we made do without it since we wanted to make a toast to celebrate. It was odd to have two different waiters, so we placed our food orders with a different waiter. The appetizers were good, we enjoyed cornbread and the pimento spread. Good thing we had cornbread since there were definitely not enough crackers. Our table got the chicken fried steak, which wasn't anything special. I think the frying could have done with less oil or leaving it out on a wire rack or something since the bottom was a bit oil laden. The gravy wasn't special, wish it had that cracked black pepper. It took some time, but we finally were able to flag down a waiter for salt and pepper, which was desperately lacking in everything. Our sides were unfortunately forgotten and we had finished about half the meal before another waiter stopped by to ask how the meal was, which when we mentioned the forgotten sides, he blamed it on the kitchen back up, which was interesting given the sheer emptiness of the restaurant. Another waiter came back later with the sides, stating he forgot to put it in the order, so he kindly comped the sides. All in all, wish we chose another place for the celebratory meal. read more

We went last week before a concert at Billy Bobs and chose based on menu and ability for reservations. We were sat right away which was great! Price of the drinks compared to what we received was not good. Whiskey sour was sadly mostly ice for $12. Food was good but nothing spectacular sadly. Service was not good at all. Late lunch on a long holiday weekend. Seated in the spacious upstairs area, also seating outside and first floor. Charles from Lake Charles did a great job and recommended a few items. We enjoyed oysters, and each had a different salad. My grilled romaine with smoked chicken was very flavorful but I wish the chicken was a little more moist. Mango margarita was frozen and hit the spot as did the watermelon ranch water. The deviled eggs we ordered never got put in, but he brought us a complimentary order to share with our salads. Provender Hall was just down the middle for me. It was a busy rodeo weekend Saturday in Ft. Worth and after a day of shopping in the stockyards area, we decided to grab a quick bite before heading to the rodeo. We didn't have a reservation, which I would recommend, but were seated at a table after promising we would eat quickly and free the table up for a reservation in just a little over an hour. The service was pleasant, but they were busy, so definitely a bit slow. I tried some of the skillet cornbread. It was good, but not great. I ate the steak salad, which was a bit overpriced ($30) in my opinion. The flavors did blend well together, but it was your traditional steak salad ingredients of greens, corn, red onions as well as cucumber and feta. Certainly a good spot to consider if you're in the stockyards area, and I imagine on a less busy weekend, that the experience would be on the whole a bit more of a comfort-food-like scenario. read more

Provender Hall is located right across Cowtown Coliseum making it super convenient for patrons who are catching rodeo afterwards. The restaurant has a casual vibe and it's very lively. The food and drink prices are still reasonable given the food quality and location. Service was quite slow. They took our drink order about 15 minutes or more after we were seated. The Manhattan and Whiskey Sour both tasted spot on. The gumbo could have been spicier but it had the southern cajun flavor that I was looking for. Venison tartare was delicious and they gave a generous portion. The Steak Frites was the star of the meal. Steak is marbled and flavorful, cooked perfectly to medium rare by our request. We had a great experience here tonight! We shared the fried green tomatoes with country ham appetizer, grated romaine salad with pork belly, grana padano cheese and balsamic dressing, steak frites (medium rare) with some of the best fries I've ever had, and side of braised greens with bits of meat (great flavor!). Everything was prepared well and tasty. But surpassing the food was the service, which was simply outstanding. And not just by our server but also several other team who visited our table and pitched in along the way. And the ambience is a fun atmosphere with two floors - main floor bar and small dining room downstairs with a few outdoor tables and an upstairs dining area with tall ceilings, exposed brick walls and open area to downstairs. Daughter and I are here to watch the cattle walk through the street and got hungry. We saw the menu included fried green tomatoes and decided to try them. We were quickly seated. The waitress came to our table with a minute and was friendly. Once we read the menu more we decided to share the deviled eggs, pimento cheese and egg sandwich. We also tried the hibiscus margarita. We both disliked the margarita. There was any hibiscus flavor in the drink it was overwhelmed by the alcohol. Loved the deviled eggs. Daughter suggested eating them with the radish. And we put the pimento cheese on our egg sandwich with Crystal C hot sauce. Super yummy. Then we tried the chocolate cake and asked for the pecans to be removed. Provender Hall. When I first heard the name I thought "okay, another bar in Mule Alley, another Stockyards spot with a name referencing something that probably has to do with livestock (google to check), yep. They'll definitely have standard drinks and basic 'cowboy' bar food. Another standard saloon!" Happily, I was quite wrong. I didn't realize at first that Marcus Paslay is the guy behind this spot (he also owns Piattello Italian Kitchen and Clay Pigeon) -- so there was no way Provendar's menu could be boring or bland. Also, I wasn't giving the Stockyards the credit they deserve for having opened several new spots over the years that are more thoughtful and modern in their menu and design, and able to draw in a fresh crowd. Paslay calls it a "Texas-style brasserie." First of all, the space is beautiful. Lots of light, greenery, high open ceilings, tall windows, modern furniture... a cool breezy staircase that leads to a huge second floor space that's flooded with light and exposed brick walls, perfect for large groups and meetings. After taking ourselves on a little tour, Jon and I sat downstairs at the small bar that opens to the front patio (which connects to the main bar inside). Fun. You can get a drink here in the official Stockyards' to-go cup and walk all around with it to other spots (as long as you stay on the bricks). Even more fun. While Provender Hall has a really beautiful cocktail menu that I cannot wait to get back to, this visit I just wanted a simple vodka grapefruit. Here, a simple vodka grapefruit is made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and a little splash of Richard's Sparkling Rainwater. I'm pretty picky about my sparkling water, but Richard's Rainwater is now at the top of my list. I tried a little on its own and it has that bold bubbly bite I like! Jon had a classic old fashioned and said it was "perfect." Our bartender was wonderful and helped us decide which other Stockyards' spots would be best for a night out, depending on what we're looking for. Sadly we already had lunch by the time we made it here. Next time we'll order food, for sure. I'd call the menu something like "upscale Southern comfort food." Everything is beautifully created and plated, just scroll through pics here of deviled eggs, crispy okra, fried green tomatoes, gumbo, grilled trout, fresh oysters, olive oil poached shrimp, flat iron steak with chimichurri... This is a nice find in Cowtown on Exchange street. Definitely a nice change from the usual BBQ or steak houses in the area. They used to have a venison tartar app that certainly got our attention and was unusual for DFW but excellent. We ate at the bar next to two cowboys and had a great time. Chicken fried steak was great, mash & collards were bland. Smoked chicken grill Romain salad would have been very nice if it wasn't smothered & covered with a boat load of dressing. A drizzle would have made it edible. Service was spotty...waiter asked if we wanted a second round of drinks, one guest ordered and while I was speaking to him to place my order, he turned and walked away. Highly recommend! This is a must eat when you're in Ft Worth. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. We were in town for a girls trip and decided on provender hall before a night out at the stockyards. For our meal, we got the shrimp and grits (highly recommend) with the largest, plumpest shrimp you've ever seen. We also got a skillet cornbread (also recommend) and the steak frites (recommend). Everything was delicious. For the non-pregnant members of our group, they also got oysters, which looked very fresh and had a wide assortment and drinks. The best part about the drinks is if you're not done with them, you can get them to go! I'm addition to the delicious food, the service was great. And the atmosphere is nice.
