These guys were great, and I would absolutely recommend the place based on my experience. I know little about computers, and they could have taken me to the cleaners if they'd wanted to. My laptop just up and died one day. I thought I was in for a bank-breaking repair, but when I brought my laptop in, one of the techs did some on the spot testing and suggested I try simply getting a new power cord. I walked out of the store paying nothing for this advice, bought the cord on line for cheap, and $37 and a few days later had a working laptop again. I had visions of lost data and hundreds of dollars of repair if not a complete replacement. They were honest and helpful when they could have ripped me off. I had DELL desktop that would shut down during boot up. I took it to Progressive Tech for a consultation to see if it could be resurrected. They found out that the motherboard was fried. I did not have a budget for new desktop. Progressive Tech offered to find me an identical DELL desktop and install my hard drive on this replacement DELL. For under 200 dollars, Progressive Tech gave me a computer almost identical to my old one, with my current hard drive, so that I do not have to configure or install any programs. They also gave me a great deal to install extra memory in this computer. These guys are helpful, professional and know what they are doing. A bottle of sports drink leaked in my backpack. When I pulled my ThinkPad T61 out of the pack, liquid ran out of it. A few seconds after I opened the lid, everything went dark, and it would no longer power up. A couple hours later, I called Progressive Tech and told them what had happened. They explained their policy for liquid spill repairs: $100 flat for complete dismantle and prognosis. After that, if you choose to proceed, the charge to repair is $60/hr , min 2 hrs, max 4 hrs. If they burn up the 4 hrs and it still doesn't work, they'll split the $240 with you. They guarantee their work for 30 days. After learning this, I brought it in. They started work on it before I had even filled out the paperwork. A couple hours later, they called to tell me that while the hard drive was OK, the rest of the machine was in critical condition, and they may be able to salvage it, but couldn't be certain. I consented to proceed. The next morning, they called to tell me that they had cleaned it all up and put it back together, and it had run all night without any problems. They said it was one of the worst liquid spills they had ever successfully recovered from. Since then I've used it for many more hours. Except for possibly a little reluctance in the left shift key, it's working 100%. They charged me the agreed-upon maximum: 100 + 240. With tax, total $372.25. This was an expensive machine, so it was well worth it. Based on this first experience, I would highly recommend Progressive Tech. I really appreciated their "emergency room" rush service response for liquid spill. As they explained, time is critical, and they went to work on it immediately. They were clear about their terms, communicated progress to me clearly and promptly, and I think their rates are reasonable. Update 3/3/2010: Since the repair by Progressive Tech, I've found three things that weren't reassembled correctly: 1) The keyboard was misaligned, causing the palm rest to be warped by screws forcing it into place; 2) the CMOS backup battery was in place, but not plugged in; 3) the left shift key was not attached correctly. I was able to correct all three of these issues myself, but it suggests the reassembly was rushed a bit. Still a good, fast repair, but I'm knocking off a star. read more

I brought my computer in on a Saturday morning and was told if I paid a $79.99 expediting fee, my computer would go to the front of the line and an estimate would be done within 24 hours. After daily calls to check status, I received a quote on Tuesday evening. Keep in mind they're open 7 days a week. Well it's Thursday afternoon and they just started to do the repairs. I am told it will be finished either Friday or Saturday. I'm losing faith for obvious reasons. To update my review of Progressive Tech, they did complete the job by Friday and stayed within the estimated price. Actually less. They did a great job with the repairs and my computer is working well. Asside from their fear of commitment, and the slow diagnostic, I would say they are very knowledgable, fair, and respectful company and I would use them again. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The guys that were working here the past two days are awesome! Woke up yesterday morning, spilled some water on my 3ish year old MacBook and it immediately shut down. Took her into here within a half hour of this happening. They held onto her all day yesterday, taking her completely apart to dry every single little part in there. I get a call today saying nothing else needs to be replaced! Drying it out made my computer work like new! Paid less here than other places (Mac Store, Apple store) were offering to fix/ look at it, got in and talked to someone WAY faster and experienced some of the best customer service I've ever had. They even noticed some other weird little glitch (my updates weren't working for some reason) and were able to fix that too! As a technophobe I always feel like an idiot around computer savvy people, including my eldest son who is a certifiable geek. They tend to take the computer, make lots of changes which they want/have on their own machines and then tell you all is well. Drives me CRAZY because I don't understand what they've done and why they decided to do it. Click clack (no, not those guys) they type really fast and then they say "all done, good to go." And it NEVER works the way you thought it should. When I took my computer to Progressive Tech 2 months ago complaining that my Outlook wouldn't send a very nice tech person fixed it immediately for $100 and said it needed diagnosis for real issues, including they said 'slow speed.' I brought it back the next day, paid $400 for the rush version, picked it up in 5 days - not a rush - and although they had wiped the disc clean and reinstalled my software there was a lot missing. Two months later it runs slower than ever, I've lost a lot of touch and feel on my computer and - the straw that broke the camel's back - they told me that the battery pack I had left was obviously not my own and insinuated that I was trying to rip off one of their battery packs. I'll take it back to the people before - at least it ran better after I picked it up. read more

I had a great experience with Progressive Tech. They were friendly, knowledgable and helpful to a non-Mac person. My daughter's Mac book died in the middle of UW finals week. They identified the issue quickly and gave me a detailed, parts and labor estimate. They followed up to make sure I understood, and approved the costs involved prior to my approving the repair. In the process of picking up the newly repaired Mac, I asked several questions about an old laptop that was having multiple issues. The technician took the time to listen and understand the issues before explaining to me what the possible causes and correction work might be. The laptop was 7 years old. They could have sold me on repairing something that had outlived its shelf-life, but they didn't. They offered to check it out for me, but advised that the cost to repair would likely be higher than the value of the device. Bottom line, they did great and reasonably priced work on the Mac, and declined the opportunity to take advantage of my by offering to repair and out-of-date laptop that wasn't worth repairing. I'll trust them with all my future technology needs! read more

Lawrence is absolutely amazing!! My whole family has tried to figure out this whole IP address thing. I'm not sure why my computer was kicked off its IP user, but it did. I stopped in and they told me to just check my router and unplug it when I got home. I did and it still was not allowing me to connect. Lawrence walked me through it on the phone 3 or 4 different times doing all different things. His patience with me was so incredible! GONE ARE THE DAYS when a broken computer meant you had to by a whole new replacement. My 4 year old Sandy Bridge is click speed and spending big bucks on another fast (new) machine didn't make sense. Besides I like it....it's silent, I've tweaked it, added an SSD, big video, etc., etc. .....it's mine like a car. So what to do when it breaks? Even though the problem was simple the chain store guys didn't have a clue. Progressive fixed it at a tiny minuscule cost of new and now it's better than new because in their thoroughness they rooted out other ancillary problems I didn't know about. Went here on a recommendation from Glazer Cameras. I had a corrupted SD card with over 2000 pictures on it. They were able to recover and restore over 99% of the pictures. It only took a couple days and all the employees were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend! read more

I just had an awesome experience with Progressive Tech! Richard helped me the moment I walked in and I told him what happened with my computer (liquid spill). He handled my situation very professionally and explained things in the most thorough way, including that it was a risk to pay the fee up front (that included them taking apart everything, cleaning everything out, and reassembling) because there was no way in telling if my computer would survive what happened to it. I appreciated his honesty and how helpful and friendly the whole staff was. I was convinced I was going to have to buy a new computer, but after about a day they had everything fixed and now my computer is running great!! The whole staff is friendly and not pushy at all- very helpful and offer great advice on options. I've been asked to pay to get help sooner but this time, I really got it sooner and they also suggested options, gave me a few good pointers on what to look for in a new computer and gave me a download of my docs, pix, music. My wireless card broke and my laptop got very slow about booting-- I think it took about 14 minutes to boot before I took it in to Progressive Tech. I am extremely pleased with the service I received. Their employees are courteous, efficient and friendly. I felt the pricing was fair--about $60 for the diagnostic work and then $20 for a new card. They did a little optional cleanup for $30 and got my computer to boot in under 3 minutes. Amazing. They called me within two days of dropping off the laptop to tell me the diagnosis. I took some time to think about what I wanted to do, and then the tech completed the work the same day that I approved it. They were also cool when I asked them if I could pay by phone and have my boyfriend pick up the computer. Companies make choices about policies and customer service every day. It's refreshing to work with a company that is both professional and flexible. read more

I will first say that these guys have integrity. They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need, and they were honest throughout the process. I also felt that they were thorough, and I have confidence that they came to the right conclusion on my issue. They were all friendly and took the time to explain things to me. What I was not happy with was how long it took, and the fact that I had to initiate most communication along the way. I paid for 3-5 days diagnostic service when my machine wouldn't turn on. They say that work will start within this period, though in the fine print they also say that there are no guarantees. At 5 1/2 days, I called to see what was up, and they hadn't started, but were going to that afternoon. At day 10-11 they thought it was probably a power supply issue and recommended replacing it. I really appreciate that since they weren't 100% sure this was the issue, that they offered a full refund on the labor and equipment if the issue recurred within 30 days. Turned out though that when they went to replace the power supply on the morning of day 12, they noticed that one of the motherboard capacitors was bulging. This led them to conclude that the motherboard was failing, not the power supply. I am confident that they came to the right answer, and in the long run that is what matters most. My issue is that with the cords pulled out of the way, this bulging capacitor is obvious -- I feel that by day 6 at the latest they should have moved the cords out of the way and inspected the motherboard carefully and found the issue. Instead I had to wait in limbo for almost another week. 7 days (12 minus 5 before starting) to diagnose this issue was too long. I felt that while they may have looked at it every day after they got started (or not), that it was not receiving enough attention. My sense (right or wrong) is that the technicians have too many jobs that they have to split their attention amongst. I also had to call regularly to see how it was going -- they should have a process where they check in with customers every few days, rather than just calling when they have found the problem or need a decision. read more

In short: If you have water damage on your laptop take it here asap. Water spill on your laptop? 1) Unplug it 2) Turn it off by holding down the power button 3) Wipe off as much as you can 4) Open up the case and take out the battery 5) Take it to Progressive Tech Took my MacBook Pro that took a massive spill of water on it to Progressive Tech. I had aired it out for around 12 hours, but that didn't fix the problem. They were able to fix it for around $200 in cleaning fees which is way cheaper than you will find anywhere else (the Apple Store will charge $800 and places you ship it too will cost at least 350). Additionally they were extremely fast (turnaround time was less than 24 hours!) and professional. I had been told that $200 would cover unlimited labor to clean it, but then got a call later that night saying they wanted additional money for labor to continue to clean it .... okay... you're not exactly in a position to bargain in these situations. Came in the next day to pick up the now working laptop (woohoo!) and explained my confusion about what unlimited labor really means and they were kind and waived the secondary labor charge apologizing for the original salesman's incorrect language. Solid commitment to customer service and sticking to their word. The trackpad was acting up for a few days afterwards, but it seems to have resolved itself eventually, and other than that it has been clear sailing. Thanks Progessive Tech! Cheap, fast, professional, local what more do you want in computer repair? I spilled water on the keyboard of my Macbook Air and pretty much fried the whole thing. Apple doesn't provide data recovery service so they referred me to a data recovery service located in the Bay Area of CA. I spoke with them on the phone and they quoted me a minimum of $600, so I looked for local options instead and found Progressive tech. These guys were so kind, helpful and patient with me as I was extremely stressed (hysterical is probably more accurate) at the prospect of losing months of work. I thought I was backing everything up to iCloud but it turns out I wasn't doing it right, so nothing had been saved. As an entrepreneur my entire career is encapsulated in my laptop so losing my data would have been devastating. For under $200 these guys were able to recover everything on my hard drive in a 2-day turnaround and provided excellent customer service (and reassurance) every step of the way.
