Prepare for disappointment. This was extremely overhyped, maybe because we stayed at the Henderson. Food was average, had to send a steak back for not being cooked correctly, which at $44 shouldn't be an issue. Yes the rest of our food was Good but not great, which maybe my expectations were just too high but based on the price point I was expecting more. I guess if you want fine dining in Destin this is it? But it wasn't great. No sushi on the night we went which is also something they promote highly. This restaurant was located within the Henderson Beach Resort. The resort itself was beautiful. The restaurant was nicely decorated and classy. They have free valet parking. It was a little hard to find because of the location of the restaurant. The restaurant did accept reservations via Open Table and that's how we reserved our spot. We were seated immediately and our waitress seemed nice and courteous. The menu was mainly seafood but also had steak and chicken. They served sushi as well, however, very limitedly. There were only a handful of specialty sushi available to order. I ordered spicy tuna roll ($14) with miso soup ($6). My boyfriend ordered the Citrus Chicken with risotto ($29). My miso soup came out almost immediately. It was your typical miso soup. It had seaweed, tofu, and green onions in the soup. It wasn't anything special. The sushi was average as well. I'm sure the fish was a little but fresher considering the restaurant was located by the sea, but I couldn't tell. What ruined the experience for us was that my boyfriend's chicken came out raw. When he cut into the chicken, it was oozing out blood. I wished we got a photo, but unfortunately, we were too busy figuring out the issue with the waitress. We initially thought maybe they injected some type of sauce in it, but the waitress confirmed to us that they did not. She agreed that the chicken appeared questionable and brought it back to the kitchen. She came back, and basically tried to tell us that the chicken was cooked and that the blood oozing was normal. Highly doubt that. She asked if we wanted to order something else, but that raw chicken tarnished our experience and appetite. Although she was apologetic, she didn't offer us anything on the house. Not to mention, we didn't get any apology from any one else. Serving someone raw food is a major no-no. You would think a manager/supervisor would be concerned too. We will 100% not be returning. We were staying at the resort and had breakfast here. The atmosphere is very nice and peaceful. The service was very good. The food was not. We had two "H" Breakfasts. We ordered scrambled eggs for both breakfasts and they were very overdone. I had to put butter on mine to make them softer. My husband had bacon which was good, but my sausage was very overcooked. The grits that I ordered were just ok, but my husband's hash browns were delicious. For a $16 per entree price tag, I was very disappointed. We will not go back here. It is unfortunate because, other than the "to go" coffee shop, I know of no other breakfast restaurants on The Henderson resort if you are staying there. read more

Just know that when you come here, you are paying for the atmosphere and service. Both of which were 5/5. The food and cocktails were not my favorite. I ordered shrimp and grits and my husband got the tenderloin. My grits were good but the shrimp was fried and a bit over cooked and overpriced. I was not a fan of the heavily breaded, fried shrimp. I choose to believe we just had different tastes. We ordered the deviled eggs as an appetizer. They lacked flavor and tasted like boiled eggs. Up next was sushi... I figured since we were in Destin with an abundance of fresh seafood, why not! The sushi proved just to be ok. The highlight of the meal proved to be the Red Fish and the McDonald like French Fries. I had to take another 1/2 of the star off for speed of service. There were a few people who were sat ahead of us that we thought were walkins And to top it off the host he had a poor very attitude. The only thing good about my entire experience was our server. But this is very unexpected from a 4 to 5 star resort the kind of service and the lack of training. Very poor experience in terms of management and identifying the host with a great personality is the key for any restaurant and menu consistency has to be there for customers who are spending almost $500 a night you can be out of something once but being out of an item 2nd time is unacceptable or it should be on a specials board not on the menu. read more

The service was exceptionally slow to the point where my husband got up twice to grab water from one of the pitchers laying around since it had been so long since we had seen our server. After ordering, it took a very long time before getting our appetizers. The food bounced back and forth between being average to superb in flavor. My husband ordered the pork belly appetizer and it was fantastic. I ordered the steamed clams and they were fine. Our food took quite a while to come out and when it did, some of it wasn't even correct. My son got the wrong side and my husband's steak was very overcooked. He ordered rare and received med well. Drink refills were a struggle to get and was just very stressful. My snapper and the two sides that my husband ordered were fantastic and the kids good was good as well. Our desserts, however, stole the show. The chocolate cake and beignets were excellent. The restaurant itself was practically empty and only one other table on the patio was occupied. I am unsure as to why the service was so awfully slow. Perhaps it was due to us having a "free dinner for two" gift card. In any case, some of the food was fantastic, some bland and the service terribly slow and orders incorrect. They should also warn guests when a movie is going to be blasted onto a large screen in the background if the guests are wanting to eat outside. .it was very hard to have a family dinner with a loud movie going on. read more

We are locals and live near The Henderson. For the last few months we have enjoyed both breakfasts and lunches at The Primrose. We find the food to be very good, the atmosphere to be wonderful and the service to be first rate. On occasion, when the hotel is hosting an event, we have been served our meal in Horizons, which is their bar. We actually like this room the best. It has a lovely comfortable feel. The Primrose has definitely become our go to breakfast restaurant. If you live in the area, be sure to ask about about the locals loyalty program. read more

Excellent service. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu, how selections were prepared, etc.. We sampled the cold cucumber avocado soup (wonderful texture, beautifully refreshing; it could also be served as a dessert). The tomato soup was also very tasty and we had fun speculating on seasonings used. The smoked pork appetizer had two small portions, was dresses with Dijon drizzled on the plate, while the pork was garnished with apple sauce (with other fruit and perhaps a hint of jalapeño). Absolutely the best smoked anything that any in our party had experienced ever. Quite a statement, I know, but it really was that good. They smoke the meat right outside the kitchen in a Big Green Egg, so it went from the smoker right to our table. Our server Jana was also very familiar with the wine selections and paired an excellent Chardonnay with the grouper (which was the best prepared, best tasting, and largest portion size we've experienced in Destin). Others in our group raved about the snapper as well. The shrimp and grits were declared to be the best on the gulf coast. Prices were very fair for the quality, quantity, and service (entrees $30s & up). Primrose definitely delivered better service and better food than the other beachfront restaurants we've tried. When we return to Destin we will definitely dine at Primrose again. (Cons: a very minor point, but the room design made the environment rather loud. We recommend Primrose consider installing sound-absorbing panels which can be made to complement the overall modern design.) Overall, Primrose was a wonderful experience and is our group's favorite restaurant in Destin. They are frequently busy; best to make a Reservation. read more

I had the filet and a side of mac and cheese. It was one of the best filets I have ever had. The resort grounds are beautiful. The hotel is decorated with art work from local artists. If you live in Destin, ask how to obtain a local's card. It isn't good for your first visit, but you can get a nice discount on food and/or other resort amenities when you return - which we definitely plan to do! read more

We have been to this restaurant 5 times in the last year. The food has been consistently very good and the service, with the exception of one night (right in the middle of Covid) is excellent and what you would expect from a restaurant in this price range. It is expensive but a great experience, especially when dining outdoors. The cocktails and wine selections are interesting, with a wide range of choices/pricing. Servers are knowledgeable about both the menu and the wines. It's a great special occasion spot and if I was staying at the hotel, which I have done once, I would definitely want to have at least one meal here. The Breakfast mimosas they promote heavily are not available for sell until after 10am ANY day, although the Destin law states that is Sunday only. I brought that to their attention and the waiter and GM, John Smith, seemed irritated that I even asked. He reluctantly gave me a free mimosa for another day on my next trip. I'm baffled at all these positive reviews! We are locals who eat out a LOT so we were excited when this new restaurant opened. The first time we went, we were the only people in the restaurant and the service was SO SLOW. We gave it some time and then started going again. We've been many times now, trying SO hard to pretend like the service is okay, but it's incredibly frustrating. Today we went for breakfast and waited forever for our food. The server said "Sorry it's taking so long! Those other people came in right before you." - referring to the single other table in the entire place. They literally can only handle one table at a time. I didn't find the food was especially great either and is definitely overpriced. The best sushi in the area is Camilles and Royal Palm Grille - hit those instead. I'm still hoping this place will get its act together eventually but for now it's not worth the trip. read more

This place is simply amazing. The food was fresh, the Executive Chef taught the cooking demonstration and allowed us to participate actively. People mention the parking, and it is hard to find, but well worth the search - there is in fact free valet parking (we found out after the fact) that could benefit from better signage but everything we had was delicious. A take on ceasar salad to start along with in house baked brioche rolls with dried herbs. Fluffy, pillowy gnocchi with a light pork ragu with zuchini and fresh lemon. Creme brulee with fresh berries and biscotti. We will definitely be going back for a breakfast or dinner service. We did the cooking demonstration and highly recommend that as well. No crowds, just a nice relaxing atmosphere and a phenomenal dinner. We started with the crab cake, which had just the right amount of mixed pepper for color and balanced nicely with mixed greens. We then ordered the grilled shrimp appetizer but had it come out with the 19oz ribeye. This steak was probably one of the best steaks we've ever had. It was aged beautifully and the knife sliced through it like butter.
