Grilled Triple Tail Basket
Shane S.

We love finding local favorites and Dewey's clearly qualified. There is absolutely nothing fancy about this place. It's little more than a food truck but what a fantastic food truck it is. We ordered Triple Tail (on recommendation) Swordfish, and skewered gulf shrimp. Everything was delicious. And eating out on the dock in such a beautiful location... chefs kiss. No complaints. Highly recommended.

We chose to stop in as we saw that it is considered a local favorite and the because of the location on the dock with the ocean view. They have plenty of seating inside and more outside, all tables have an umbrella for shade while enjoying the view. The prices are a bit steep, as is expected from a tourist spot. We opted for their popular gulf shrimp and fries option but weren't too impressed by them. They were cooked/fried perfectly but they were definitely missing seasoning, they tasted very bland. Not a very memorable option but we did enjoy the location and there was a nice breeze out.

Destin, FL 32541 / SEAFOOD / 07-21-25 / DINNER / 2 Adults, 2 Kids +The gumbo was amazing, lots of fresh seafood. -This seafood shack drenches the grilled fish with a sauce. -The grilled shrimp basket was a bit overcooked and dry. -Kids hot dog was super salty. Benn coming here for about 10 years and it has been our favorite "go to" .... best view of Crab Island and the Bay while eatin' on the dock - until now. Alas, times change as do so many things. Straightforward - beautiful view. Service here is still 5 star, friendly and courteous; food came out quickly and hot. Food/Taste: Here's where things have begun to slip. I normally go for grilled, but decided to try fried Triple Tail. Yes, fish was flaky and tender....but not "slightly sweet" as described by waitstaff. And it was a bit "off" (one piece in particular was pretty darn "fishy".) Bottom line however was that the seasoning was nowhere to be found. Yes...lightly coated and decently fried.... but zilch for enhanced taste. Maybe I should'a stuck to my regular order of Grouper or Trigger fish. (My bad.) Fries were spot on hot and crispy. Wife's fried shrimp were a bit rubbery. How'd that happen? And, the fountain drinks, while cold, had a "Fort Walton-type" funky flavor. Not my cup of tea so to speak. Fallin stars in my Yelp sky.

The staff here are incredibly friendly! You order at a counter and the food is brought out to you. Every staff member was polite and respectful. The food was also very good. Everything tasted fresh and the fried food was not too heavily battered, so you could actually taste the seafood. The views during sunset were also incredible. If you're looking for a local seafood place that is not overrun with tourists definitely check this place out while you're in Destin!

Just a perfect spot for seafood lovers.

Recommended by a daycare friend, this place is a Florida dream come true with regards to finding 'Old Florida Authentic' seafood. Gotta say that the drive back to the restaurant had my family saying 'Hell no, turn around' because it is a long, lonely lane back to the main event, but once there you know you have hit gold. There were umbrella covered picnic tables on the side and down the pier, people snorkeling nearby, fishing boats coming in. What can I tell you? The atmosphere was Florida idyllic. Maybe not so perfect on a stormy day but luckily this day was glorious with a nice breeze and about 74°. The Sunday evening line was long to order food (hint, there are menus available inside where you order. Don't be shy and go in and grab a couple to peruse while you make the very worthwhile wait) but it went quickly and was great seeing all the food previously ordered being carried by and listening to those who knew their favorite foods there. My group of 6 started with the hot crab dip , fried crab claws and an order of stuffed shrimp. All great! I had my dream come true combination of fried scallops and oysters which were excellent! I would have liked some lemon and am sure I could have asked for some but was too busy eating and enjoying to worry about it. M had the combination captains basket of fish, shrimp and scallops. We also had peel and eat shrimp, red potatoes, Cole slaw and absolutely delicious key lime pie. The only thing I added was some extra salt because they are obviously very careful to not assume your taste buds when it comes to that. No complaints. We sat in the extra area covered seating looking out on a magnificent sunset over the water and I seriously could not have been happier, surrounded by people I loved and food I craved. Part of me hates to write this review because Dewey's feels like it could be a secret restaurantal handshake between people in the know and I wouldn't want just any yahoo coming in and not appreciating it appropriately, but I trust if you have read this far you are not that yahoo.

The BF and I had a bit of a miscommunication about dinner so when we pulled up I was a little worried as he made it seem like they ONLY had peel n eat shrimp. My fears were quickly calmed when I saw the menu and was pleasantly surprised to see grilled options on the menu. We each got a grilled catch of the day with 2 different fish types. Super happy with the plates. Great flavor on the fish and great sides. He also to an order of shrimp. He said at least 1/2 felt overcooked but was still overall happy because of how fresh they were. A no frills place but with really good food and a decent amount of options on the menu. I'd definitely come back!!

On the pier at sunset

Dewey Destin's never disappoints, but catching it at sunset was next-level. The seafood was as fresh and delicious as always, but the view made it unforgettable--turquoise water, orange-pink skies, pelicans skimming the surface, and laughter drifting across the deck. We've been here many afternoons, but dinner at sunset is something special. Highly recommend timing your visit for that golden hour--you'll want to linger and savor every bite. When they call out your name and walk your food down the pier to your table you just know it's going to be the best.

My favorite lunch spot in Destin is Dewey Destin Seafood on Calhoun Avenue. I try to go every time I am in the area. It looks like a shack with a pier, but has the best seafood in the area. Very informal atmosphere. You simply order inside, get your drink and either sit on the pier or in one of their screened areas. Hint: go for the open air pier. Beautiful fresh from just hours prior seafood of the day. What they catch is what you eat! Magnificent!

Excellent fried shrimp, amazing grilled amberjack, great slaw, solid key lime pie Truly the fresh fish is best grilled... trust a 15 year customer... but the fried shrimp are truly excellent!

Captain's basket- shrimp, oysters, and mahi-mahi
Mark W. S.

Wanted some fried shrimp and this place was recommended. It's in kind of a shack with two docks and a rustic dining room all with picnic tables. You order at a counter. We got the fried shrimp basket along with a mixed basket of shrimp, oysters, and mahi-mahi. Fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw came with them. I had to get a side of gumbo too. All in, it was not bad but seemed to lack seasoning. That may be a personal preference. The shrimp were big and fried nicely. I would go back with a bottom of hot sauce in my pocket. Oh, unless you're in shorts and a tee shirt you're over dressed. Very causal.

Original Dewey Destin is always good, it's a fools seafood restaurant. The fried shrimp, fries, hush puppies were all cooked to perfection, not greasy with a light batter. We were able to sit outside and see a beautiful sunset over the water. Service fast for as busy as they were.. Slight wait, but definitely worth the wait every time!

Triple Tail

Looked around the internet for recommendations in Destin and Dewey Destin kept popping up. This place is so good. This one is located by a harbor where you can get a great view of the sunset for dinner. The tables by the docks fill quickly so you might need to get lucky or opt for the indoor seating. Service was fantastic and the line moved quickly despite being long. The person who took our order was very friendly and professional. Highly recommend getting their fried Triple Tail if it's available (catch of the day). The crunchy fried exterior mixed with the fresh pillowy texture of the fish was nothing short of spectacular. Their buffalo shrimp was amazing too. Best part, if you got room for dessert, there is an ice cream spot right next to Dewey. Don't miss out on this fresh seafood spot when you're in town!

We sat outside, enjoyed the live music, and the atmosphere was perfect for a group celebration. Service was quick and attentive, especially considering how busy they were. Food wise, the pimento cheese dip was unfortunately not a hit for our group. It had a very thick, almost paste like consistency and was difficult to spread. I also ordered the corn and crab bisque, and personally was not a fan of the sweeter flavor. For my meal, I ordered the summer salad and absolutely loved it. I finished every bite. Our server also highly recommended the first three fish options on the menu, and everyone who ordered fish completely cleaned their plates. Portion sizes were very generous. The only issue we had was the bride's steak being overcooked, but the manager personally came over, addressed it, and made sure everything was taken care of. Overall, great atmosphere, live music, generous portions, and solid service. A fun spot for groups and celebrations!

The restaurant was spacious and well decorated and made you feel like you were on the beach but then nothing could compare to the experience which was simply amazing! Chef Terrance was sensational and worked his magic for real! He took our fresh haul of fish and prepared it three different ways! The Vermilion snapper was fried to golden-brown perfection, the Tuna was blackened with a deep and sultry flavor, while the Triggerfish was beautifully seared. And let's not forget about those phenomenal sides which included roasted broccolini, crispy Brussels sprouts, fried corn, French fries, and some of the best creamy gouda grits I've ever had. We even had an amazing seared Lionfish dish as this was during the Emerald Coast Open. But the day would not have been complete it was not for our server, Naz. No words can describe how much he elevated the experience! The attention to detail was flawless, and his anticipation of our needs was so on-point I don't think we ever had to ask for a anything. By the time we got to the table, he was nowhere to be found; however, the menus were in a pile on the table. Our server, on the other hand, was very pleasant. Of course, the complimentary hush puppies are definitely a hit as well. For my entree I had the Grouper Louisianne. It was a tasty piece of fish, that came with a great side salad and a super delicious twice baked potato. Other than the host, the other reason for the minus one star, was the unusually long time it took between the salad course and the main course. It was a full 20 minute wait, after we were done with our salads, for the main course to arrive. It looked like a nice, relaxing, elevated restaurant we could relax at after a day of excursions. It really wasn't that. After spending most of our days eating at the themed surf restaurants that decorate with shark heads, surfboards and tiki lights. We had hoped this would be a change, it's really not. It may not be grossly decorated with those tiki-style items, but most certainly is that same type of restaurant. It's not elegant, it's not elevated and its most certainly, not relaxing. The food was very good, the service from our waitress, Savannah was mediocre. She seemed bored or maybe having a bad night and was doing her best to cover it with a smile. We ate up at the skybar which does have a very lovely view. The high-top table and chairs are uncomfortable. My wife and I had to come off the chairs to stand next to the table for a few moments because the chairs were so uncomfortable. As far as their food goes, I had the shrimp tacos. They were made with very fresh tasting ingredients and the shrimp wasdelicious. At least the 2 pieces per taco they came with. Most of what was in the taco was just the filling. $22.00 for two tacos I expected more shrimp. My wife's Grouper Moreno and the conch fritter appetizer were both delicious. Dessert was the salted caramel cheesecake which was good, but ridiculously sweet (as you'd expect it to be) Overall, the food was very good though the tacos could have included more shrimp then they did. The service was just okay. The restaurant itself is nice, but not the quiet relaxing place it looks like on their website. It's just another surf themed style restaurant, without all the gaudy decorations.
