Yesterday, our server Lila did the basics, greeted, took orders and delivered drinks, however, her overall attitude was as though she could care less about her job/customers. We ate at Surf Hut during our vacation and had a pretty good experience overall. We ordered the open-faced sliders along with the BBQ ribs and chicken kabobs, which came with coleslaw. We also had the fried calamari with marinara, which was good. Everything was cooked well and tasted good, but nothing really stood out as especially memorable. The best part was the atmosphere -- from our table, we could see the beach, which made for a really relaxing dining experience. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal while visiting Destin. read more

We stopped in for lunch since the Surf Hut was directly across from our hotel. The location directly on the beach is beautiful. We sat inside since it was a cooler day and they had the windows closed. The server was friendly and checked on us a couple times. I felt like the food was a little on the expensive side, but I do realize I'm in a tourist area. We wound up sharing the create your own catch thinking it would be a good size portion for $43 and we would have spent that much if we both got the least expensive items on the menu. It was not quite a shareable size. I actually felt bad for taking any of the fish. The grouper was small, not sure it was 6oz and the rice and beans were not well seasoned, they were quite bland. The mashed potatoes were very good, but I'm not a fan of paying $42 for good mashed potatoes. I am not sure I would return due to the cost and portion sizes. read more

Stopped at the Surf Hut for dinner with our extended family tonight. They were able to accommodate 17 of us at dinner time with no issue. The food was pretty good. My wife had a seafood salad and I had a burger. The seaside views were fantastic as the sunset. I recommend this place if you want a solid meal on a night out. read more

First and foremost, this place is just an awesome location right on the beach. We were seated with the windows open overlooking the beach, love the vibe and overall atmosphere in this restaurant. Granddaughter got to go out and play in the sand while we waited on lunch. I was craving burger and fries, and they were fairly good. Fries were seasoned really well. The burger was cooked nearly perfectly but unfortunately room temperature when served. The service was adequate and friendly. Nothing really to speak of there. I'll be so honest. I wish I could get my money back on this experience. The venue is beautiful. It's right by the waters. Our server seems pretty checked out and didn't care to be there or answer questions. We paid nearly $40-50 per person. And the food was pretty mid. This place might was the highlight of our dining experience in the Destin area! We arrived for dinner on the earlier side (5) and had no trouble getting a table for a family of 5. Looking right out to the white sand beach and gorgeous ocean with a fun area for the kids to play. Food was delicious- highly recommend the salmon and shrimp tacos. We were totally looking for a an Ocean view restaurant, but didn't want to break the bank! We are also often disappointed with the quality of food at beachside restaurants. We found this on yelp and decided to give it a try. Our server Dontae was so sweet and so friendly! He helped us navigate the menu and recommended some good seafood. We ended up sharing a huge captains platter, which had scallops, shrimp, and fresh fish!. One of the greatest things was that that Food came to us within 15 minutes! You know when you are super tired at the beach and then you have to sit for hours to even wait for attention or food? Then the kids are crying and not happy? Well, this did not happen here! They were quick, and immediately a manager came over and check to see how we were doing and if everything was OK. Her name was Liz and she was so authentic and friendly! We would give more than five stars if we could! We got a bucket liquor drink and shared it, but I must say it did not lack alcohol. We still spent $80 counting tip, but we're so happy with every penny we spent. My grandson got a fruit cup for his dinner and it was huge and wonderful! We thought, five dollars for a fruit cup? And then we got a generous serving and he was so happy! I told them that I was going to yelp the crap out of this place! If you want a great meal at a reasonable seaside price with good quality, food and people who care about you and love their job, you must try this! We had a great view of the ocean and you could sit outside on the spacious patio or sit right at the windows inside. We come to Destin several times a year and always make sure to eat at least one meal at the surf hut during our visits. We love to get the fried shrimp and scallops. The fried scallops are awesome when you dip them in drawn butter...trust me on this. They have tons of seating both indoor and outdoor with great views of the beach. The manager/owners are always going table to table to check on your dining experience. Tonight our server was Ashley and she was nothing shy of amazing! She had a super friendly personality and was happy to help us with anything and everything. I felt like we were fast friends before we left because she was so helpful and accommodating. Gorgeous view right on the beach! Kids play area and the restaurant is beach casual for drinks at the bar and features outside dining too. The food was well prepared and served with a smile. We wanted to eat on the beach, and Surf Hut was a good selection. We were a party of six, and had a very short wait - less than ten minutes. We had what I think was the best seat in the house. We were outside, in the corner table next to the beach. It was dark outside so we didn't have much of a view, but saw people outside playing bags set up on the beach. I decided to try their Blue Heron drink. It was tropical, as the name suggests, and they donate $1 toward environmental causes for every one sold. For my meal, I had grilled Cobia with Polynesian Chili Sauce. I'd never had Cobia before and it was very fresh and good. We also ordered sweet and spicy pickle chips for the table. Those are off my diet so I didn't have any, but everyone else seemed pleased with them. The experience and ambiance were excellent. This was a fun selection for our dinner. Ordered the 10 piece fried shrimp as a shared main dish and the shrimp and crab dip as an appetizer. The crab dip arrived promptly but was only slightly warm and the tortilla chips had been left out to absorb the humidity so were stale. The entree arrived just 5 minutes later forcing us to now eat the shrimp before it gets cold while the partially consumed appetizer goes from warm to cold. Promptness is appreciated but there needs to be time allowed to enjoy the appetizer. I will say the fried shrimp was very good. Soupy coleslaw not so much. read more

Definitely recommend Surf Hut. Earlier in the day we went fishing and caught some red snapper and grouper and was so excited that Surf Hut would do a hook & cook for us. They cooked our fish to perfection and gave us multiple variations of it. Nick, the manager, was super accommodating and helpful. We ordered the crab and shrimp dip which was great. Our sides of mashed potatoes and vegetables were also great along with the stunning view. Our server, Jessica, was so attentive and kind. Great location and atmosphere right on the beach can't beat it. Traditional seafood menu lotta fried food and grilled as well. Had a large drink menu a lot of drinks I've never heard of.
