Food was not good - I had the stuffed shrimp and the crab cake stuffing overpowered the shrimp. But eating just the shrimp was way too dry. Not a juicy shrimp like it should be. Gorgeous view right on the beach! Kids play area and the restaurant is beach casual for drinks at the bar and features outside dining too. The food was well prepared and served with a smile. It was a 3.4 experience overall. Pros: The view is amazing! Get a table outside--the shade and breeze will keep you plenty cool. You can also order your own food & drinks at the indoor bar and then carry it outside to the picnic tables on the sand. There was also plenty of parking when I arrived around 3pm on a Thursday, whereas my first beach restaurant choice had no parking. The service was pretty good. Cons: They can't make a skinny margarita--not a huge deal, but seems odd, particularly when there are menu items in the $40-$50 range. The spicy margarita I had was neither spicy, nor did it taste like it had any tequila. What I really don't like was that the music doesn't fit the vibe at all. Perfect location, casual & classic gulf beach food. It wasn't cheap but it also wasn't the worst I'd seen price wise in the area. We actually liked this place so much that we came two nights in a row. The first night we had two kids shrimps and two cocktails for $100. The next night we had two cocktails, an appetizer and fish tacos for $70 so it's worth doing some math and sharing meals if you're on a budget. Didn't drive so I couldn't tell you about parking but walking up from the beach was super easy along their boardwalk entry. Looked like they had a nice spot to wait for tables too. This time we got the Seafood salad which was loved and marked "best meal all trip" and "we'll have to go back there".. also, the Blackened Shrimp Tacos are always a hit, and the Shrimp Skewers were really light and delicious! The surf hut has good food and a nice variety on the menu. We have eaten here 3/4 times over the last few years and haven't had a bad meal. Service is hit or miss like most places. Some times they're good and others not so much. It is a convenient place if you're staying in the area. Since our 1st visit in 2022 the prices have went up almost 25% on some of the meals. This place is way over priced. $13 mojitos and $34 grouper sandwiches. Try it once and see what you think...but there are better options in the area without the hiked up "tourist trap" prices. read more

My son ordered the fried crab claws and they were terrible, but our waitress was very gracious and took them off our bill. He requested a burger instead, which appeared at our table in under 5 minutes and looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a minute. My daughters split the Alaskan Snow Crab legs and those were good. I had the grilled shrimp, decent but the rice and beans were dry. My husband got the grouper and it was also average. First stop was surf hut.... Drinks were fine the food was just meh. There were 4 of us. One had the ribeye and he said it was good.... Other had fried stuff shrimp and they were not good... they came out very very dry and being wrapped in bacon just tells me they sat under a food lamp for a while. Another friend had the seafood salad - it was large with shrimp and scallops. Shrimp looked fine but the scallops were the size of a dime and over cooked and it took a long time to be delivered to the table. I had a cup of Chef Special Gumbo and a side salad. nothing special about that gumbo It was horrible. Can't really mess up a salad so it was fine but it to took forever to get as with the other 2entrees steak and fried stuff shrimp were received in a very reasonable amount of time. Ambiance was loud and very busy. Our wait was 25 min so not bad at all. Probably won't go back just because of the food... and very over priced. But then again it is a tourist place but we will spend our money elsewhere. read more

I had a very bad dining experience at the Surf Hut. The restaurant positions itself as a popular "fun in the sun" beachside dining destination, advertising and promoting heavily in the Destin area. They serve a little of everything, from seafood to tacos, salad and burgers, to in my case, a large live insect burrowing through my food. To be clear, my Beach Burger was delivered with a quarter-sized insect that looked like a beetle with wings, climbing in and out of the patty and fries. This is how it was delivered from the kitchen; I do not believe it flew in as my plate was being delivered. My waitress offered to take it back to be remade. What she didn't offer, and this is an important point, was an apology or explanation as to how this even reached me. During the remainder of our meal, which was cut short because we mostly lost our appetites, no manager came by to apologize either. The restaurant did not remove a penny from the bill. When I returned home, I reached out to Terry L., the general manager, and asked for an accommodation to the bill. At his request, I texted a photo of the credit card receipt. I asked that the cost of the burger be refunded and he promised to make things right. He has not done so, with my recent follow up going unanswered. I also received no response when I escalated the incident to Salt Water Restaurants Inc., the parent of the Surf Hut, or Nick S., the CEO. You learn a lot about a business, in this case a restaurant, for how it responds when things go wrong. I don't like publicly calling out restaurants but the Surf Hut's failure to resolve what amounted to a terribly served entrée and a ruined dinner speak volumes. I personally will not dine at their restaurant again. Don't be taken in by their marketing. Their food in my case was lacking and there are plenty of better restaurants in the area. read more
