You come here for the ambience. It's right on the beach, beautiful views, great staff and really excellent food. I had mahi grilled over rice and vegetables, son had the best fried fish we've had in a while with fried and my wife loved her mahi sandwich. We walked on the beach while we waited for food, I had a great local beer, and Amos was the best server you could possibly ask for. Super kind, very fast and amazing recommendations. Ask for him. The only thing I could dong them on is price. This is really expensive (easily $35 to $50 per person for meal and drink), but their special were really great value! Mahi grilled with right, $19. Happy hour drinks on weekdays, super cheap. Come on a weekday in off season for an early dinner for one of the best food experiences in Destin. Come in peak season on a weekend and get ready for a massive bill, super busy bar and a long wait for a table. We'll be back but only with some thought about when. read more

Worst meal in Destin. Waitress (Lauren) rolled her eyes at us for ordering water and continued to have an attitude the remainder of the meal. Food was terrible, I had the stuffed shrimp. It was cooked to the point that the bacon was burnt crisp and the shrimp was tough. Mashed potatoes had a hard shell around them, obviously had been sitting awhile like that and the vegetables were tasteless. The entire meal cost $106. Don't waste your time.. read more

Not good. Mahi fish sandwich was so dry and hard to eat. Side order of cucumber salad had so much vinegar it was inedible. And no red onions as described on the menu. Barely touched it. Server was nice but didn't even ask me why she was picking up a full plate of food. We are moving here full time but won't be back. Not so bad you would complain, but not good enough to come back Service was slow, and too fast... water took 10 minutes, food took about 12 minutes, Jim Beam on the rocks took 20+ minutes. Ambiance is what you'd expect for a tourist trap. Crowded, ill mannered children, etc. oh yes, expect to pay 3.5% extra for the "privilege" of using a card to pay. Overpriced and terrible service. Was there last week, our waitress was super grumpy. We were a table of 9, ordered large meals and two rounds of drinks--an easy gratuity if she was nice or helpful. Food was ok, but her poor attitude had everyone on edge. She was annoyed about everything. Her food runner dropped our food, we were fine with it, somehow she took it out on us and got even meaner. We decided to close out and go elsewhere. Wouldn't go back. The other staff also had lousy attitudes too. Everyone seemed to dislike their jobs. read more

Let's just say we were satiated!! The flavors popped on the tongue & our bellies were more than full!!! Mahi Mahi fried offered with a light corn meal batter left us excited to come back for more!! The beachside location is nice, and the food good, but I was disappointed by the service and the prices here. Again, the food was good, but not enough to leave an impression, especially for the price which - while I recognize that prices at destination beaches are inflated - just weren't justified. I had a great experience at Surf Hut last night. Our waiter, Clark, was very welcoming and helpful. He recommended the shrimp and grits. It was absolutely delicious! I've been a grits girl all my life and these were cooked properly. They were extra creamy and the flavor of the gravy and shrimp was spicy. It was a little nippy outside, so this definitely warmed me up. They have an outdoor sandy area with a beautiful view of the beach for corn hole and additional sitting. Delicious shrimp, tacos, on the beach, great drinks! We were able to park our vehicle, eat and enjoy some time on the beach.

Great view, but that's the best I can say. The Mojito I ordered was club soda on ice. I asked the waitress for another one, but that wasn't great either. But I ordered the grilled grouper for $42.00! It literally came to the table about a 1/4 inch thick. It was so overcooked I had to cut it with a knife and it chewed like a steak. It should be flakely and a lot thicker than it was. They need to see what other restaurants in the area sell as grilled grouper and step up their game. My wife's chicken sandwich was also embarrassingly thin. No where near a standard 4oz protein portion. Then, their straws are so tall in the drinks that when the server brought our plates our plate dragged on the straw when reaching over and spilled the drink on my wife. No comping on anything. We didn't ask for it. Our waitress was awesome though. I wouldn't recommend eating here at all! We will not go back here and we're in the area for another month. read more

I know it is busy season, but our party of 12 was seated at two separate tables after a 50 minute wait, when there were large empty tables open. The air vent above our table dripped right over my food and water. Kids menu was very limited, we have 7 kids among us. Changing table in the women's bathroom only closes if you plug it with a wad of paper towels. For a $170 dinner, we will not be back. read more

Visited while on vacation. Ordered the chicken shish kabob. It comes with dark meat so he gave the option of white meat it was just a chicken breast instead of the kabob. This came with teriyaki chicken, vegetables , white rice with black beans and corn and a grilled pineapple. I also ordered the tropical margarita. Everything was ok. I kind of wish it was more food and the margarita needed just a little more liquor. Our server was awesome though. read more

We loved our meal and experience here! We walked over a mile on the beach to get here and walked up. They told us the wait was around an hour and 20 minutes. Another customer told us it would be worth it. They had picnic tables and corn hole activities in the sand to hang out around while we were waiting. Plus you could get drinks at the bar. We had mint juleps and they were really good. Our wait ended up being under an hour. We had raw oysters on the half shell to start. My friend and I each had the shrimp and grits. My husband had the mahi mahi and my friend's husband had the fish tacos. We really loved everything and were a little surprised as we thought the food would be more touristy and not necessarily super good but it was. Highly recommend! Great experiment and great food. Always gotta visit the surf hut when we visit. Listen, if you haven't had their shrimp and grits you are seriously missing out. SOOO delish. Our waiter was much more personable than the last time and they came so close to getting 5 stars. If I could give a 1/2 star toward 5 I would. Only complaint this time was stale chips brought out with app but the waiter fixed it immediately which was surprising. Crab dip is a little on the bland side, but the hot sauce on the table fixed that! I would add some fresh Pico to it to add a little zing. But YUM! read more

Walked right in and our party of 9 was seated immediately around 4pm. Service was quick and our server was great. The key lime freeze was amazing. The gumbo was amazing. My fried mahi mahi sandwich was great. The shrimp and scallops were good. Just go eat here. Oh and the crab dip was really good too. The view is gorgeous but this place does not rely on that like most of the other places in the area. They're always crowded because the food and service are great! It was packed so we sat at the bar and I'm so glad we did Natalie I think was her name. She was the best! #1 like a good bartender she knew my drink was a Miami Vice. #2 instead of pouring it half and half she did it at the same time so it looked gorgeous and tasted even better. Then the food. Oh my gosh the BEST fish tacos. Guac on the bottom, beautifully grilled fish, slaw and then they're sauce is delicious. My rice could have been fluffier but the flavor was there. We tried Surf Hut after reading great reviews on some of the travel groups I was part of. This restaurant is located right on the beach with awesome views of the white sand and turquoise water. We are around 4pm, pro-tip: get here early to avoid any wait times. With zero wait we asked to eat on the patio and were seated right away. I ordered a Blue Crush Colada that was refreshing and highly recommended. For an entree I ordered the fried shrimp and instead of slaw ordered the cucumber and tomato salad. Our food came out pretty quickly. Everything was cooked and fried perfectly. If you're looking for good fried shrimp this place is definitely a go to in my book. My husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. He did say his meal was about average. Definitely give Surf Hut a try if you're in the area. read more
