I went to play pool on Tuesday March 27th 2018 when a group of hateful americans began insulting, taunting & bullying me, once I defended myself, a big oaf of a racist american doorman Mamés, Ian Blackmore told me I had to leave. I asked why he didn't say anything about the group of americans that were threatening & insulting me. Ian grabbed me by the arm & started pushing me towards the door even though he isn't allowed to touch me. I told him not to touch me & shrugged him off of me, I was then walking out the door with one foot already out when Ian Blackmore punched me from behind with a cheap shot, sucker punch... since I expected him to be a civilized citizen & I didn't see the punch coming from behind (like a bitch) I couldn't soften the blow or block the punch to my head. I got knocked out for some amount of seconds. My body collapsed onto that dark & cold stairwell where I came to. I realized instantly the amount of pain I was in & ran as fast as I could from that hateful & senselessly aggressive american, named Ian Blackmore. I am currently talking to the Boulder county DA's office, the police, & my attorney about this case. I have just as many rights as those horrible people & no one deserves to be treated like a punching bag instead of a person, which is what you will get if you're not a white person @ press play bar. I bet I'm the only customer from that bar that Ian Blackmore punched in the head, at least I hope I'm the only customer that Ian Blackmore physically assaulted... I want Justice to be served to Ian Blackmore so that no other customers are harmed by that big oaf of a doorman. When you don't hold people accountable for their crimes people get hurt & the country becomes chaotic with criminals, just take a look at how no one that is white in the government is held accountable & that's why there are so many problems in this country that have no solutions, just because you simply can't hold people accountable for their actions. read more

Worst bar on Pearl Street- the music is terrible, drinks are expensive, the bouncers are abusive and the management is literally the worst I have ever seen in my life. My friends and I watched them wrestle a drunk man to the ground and lay on top of him with an armhold while he begged them to stop, shouting "I'll do whatever you say." Apparently they were waiting for the police, because kicking this guy out wasn't enough for the manager named Zack, who was severely and tastelessly overdressed in some sort of brown tweed suit. Naturally, everyone started filming this clearly illegal behavior on their phones, so Zack began to threaten the people with their phones out, saying it was illegal to film (which is a lie). He went individually to each person, demanding they delete their footage and took a phone from one guy who refused. He gave it to a bartender and when someone took it back, the bouncers attacked him and brought him to the cops instead of the drunk guy. Zack followed them up the stairs telling more lies- this time to the police- saying this man had assaulted "his" female bartender, when he had touched nothing besides the phone that had been illegally confiscated. Of course, the police let him go after some time when everyone told them the truth, but Zack was never reprimanded. He spent a good half-hour outside the bar on the street, trying to manipulate the officers and swearing at patrons who were calling him out. He still works there and I'm sure he still acts the same way. I used to like this place until this incident, but I might as well mention I saw a show there once before it and the sound guy was awful and I know a girl who works there and says she hates her job. I HAD TO CREATE A FRICKIN YELP ACCOUNT BECASUE OF THIS AWFUL PLACE! I have lived in Boulder for 9 years now, and was shocked at how RUDE the staff treated me and my friends! Snobby is just the begining; later on, my friends and I were told to get the f**K out without being able to finish our drinks we had JUST bought ONE minute earlier (and they DID NOT mention last call!) a bouncer then said he told me about last call, and basically lied to my face. As I was leaving, I mentioned I was going to write a NEGATIVE review on yelp unless they would apologize for selling us drinks and then demanding we pour them out. The bartender replied, "We already offered you a free drink." (in a snotty tone) I replied, "Who offered me a free drink?" She replied, "i forgot." and was unable to recall which coworker had offered me a drink (even though it must have been within 2-3 minutes prior, or so she impLIED!) I could not belive them trying to lie to my face; probably an indication that the normal crowd at PRESS PLAY are all wasted idiots! I thought I was ata MAGA rally with all the hate my party and I experienced. Do not come here unless you are a white Trump supporter otherwise they will harass you the entire night until they have insulted you beyond belief. Crap drinks, games eat your money and they simply do not care. I really wish the workers weren't racist, xenophobic, and sexist. Honestly, I had the worst experience at this bar that I have had in awhile. We were celebrating a birthday and thought it would be fun to "bar hop" around Boulder. At Press Play we were met purely with disrespect. Although they are a bar, apparently you are not allowed to drink anywhere else before. The bouncers were extremely rude. They also tried to take our licenses (which are not fraudulent). Worst place ever. So much for a fun birthday :( Also, they have a rep for being extremely racist and homophobic, so maybe its for the better that we didn't end up going in. I had always wanted to go to Press Play to have a beer and relax while playing arcade games ever since I turned 21 earlier this year. My father and I were on Pearl Street, so we decided to stop by and have a bite to eat. When I showed my valid military ID to the bartender, he apologized and said that his manager said that military IDs "without a microchip" (aka Active Duty) were not allowed at this establishment. Since I did not receive a logical explanation as to why my military ID was not accepted, I am angered by their discrimination and will not give them my patronage at any future dates even with alternate forms of identification. read more

I absolutely love this bar, but they are VERY RACIST. Unfortunately this bar is extremely racist. I brought my friend from Salt Lake City who identifies as Mexican-American. We both went into the bathroom, and when I was exited they were breaking into the stall where my friend was going to the bathroom, because of his race as a mexican-american, he was forced to leave and when asked why, he was accused of using drugs in the bathroom without any proof... If you have any friend that aren't white, I would highly recommend that you AVOID THIS BAR. I love the games, but the racism isn't worth it. read more

Overpriced drinks, pool tables suck, and the staff is extremely unpleasant. They took my buddies legitimate driver's license away and insisted we call the cops to get it back. As requested we had the police come to verify the license which they did. However the bouncer had the audacity to cut it in half before the police even arrived. Destruction of property. I was visiting Boulder, I love classic video games and I was excited to find this place after reading about it here on yelp. Actually this is not the place to be on a Friday night. The music was way too loud, the kids partying were hardcore- the police came through twice, the door staff practically belligerent themselves, and I am sure I could have bought any substance I wanted- the staff was oblivious. This bar pretty much kicks all kinds of ass! I can drink, dance and play all kinds of video games, pinball, pool, or giant jenga which was a blast when a group of my 6 friends all played together at the same time! The owners are friendly and fun and the bartenders were just as great! Whoever doesn't like the atmosphere inside Press Play obviously struggles to have any fun in life.
