What a friendly coffee shop! Tried this cafe out for the first time and they have excellent coffee. We ordered an iced oat milk SF caramel latte and a hot vanilla hazelnut latte as well as a cream carrot cake pastry. The space is very lovely and light & airy with local artists displaying their art for sale. The baristas were friendly and attentive and brought out our items and the owner stopped by our table to greet us after stopping in with a delivery. It was a relaxing and peaceful ambience that we enjoyed and we look forward to returning.

    Great coffee in western Shawnee!
    Tom V.

If you know, you know. Western Shawnee is a great area to live: quiet, wooded, not a ton of traffic, & very family-oriented. There are plenty of options to dine and get other services, but if you want to explore the metro, you gotta go a ways. It's not the worst, but living outside the loop adds a few miles/minutes to your travels should you want a unique offering. Trust me on this one, as a former Shawnee-in (Shawnee-ite?). But that's where small biz choices like Prayer Box come in. Instead of Shawnee having another tired option that lacks distinction, now Prayer Box provides an oasis in a small coffee desert. Step into the remodeled space and you can see the time and dedication that has transformed it into an inviting kaffehaus. The menu is varied while still being focused instead of tricking you into some Seattle lab experiment. Prayer Box is serving Broadway Coffee and doing it up right whether hot or iced. All the usual suspects are on hand as flavor agents and seasonal offerings are not only the norm but handcrafted. There are pastries aplenty on hand, but I would suggest a wedge of their quiche. On this day I had a choice between the bacon & cheese or a crust-less veggie variety and I opted for the former, well, because pie crust. And WOW! what a nice surprise, super fluffy and exceptionally flavorful, making my Sunday morning all the better. It's hooks like this that make me skip drive-thru lines and head for the small biz, because if I'm getting a muffin from a chain outlet, it likely wasn't made on-site. Prayer Box is the complete opposite, leaving me feeling as if we were guests at someone's home and they served amazing quiche with their coffee. Add in comfortable seating, including a small couch and throw blankets, and this has all the makings of a comfortable morning. Easy to park, because western Shawnee has one thing downtown doesn't: space. Easy to buy, because the offerings are made right in front of you. And easy to enjoy, because if you stay local, you eat local, and you buy local. Prayer Box deserves all the stars!

Looks like we've got a new coffee shop in town! It's Friday at about 11a. The coffee shop is really cute, bright and modern, upbeat music and lots of plants. It wasn't super busy but there seems to be steady traffic. The barista and (I'm assuming) the owners/managers are friendly and professional. It sounds like they're still training staff but everyone seems to be doing well to me. Now for the coffee- I asked for a cold drink recommendation and ended up with a lavender lemon latte. Not my usual order but it is light, refreshing and I quite enjoy it. I also ordered a Caesar salad - good/standard, well dressed. No wifi yet, but the owner/manager says it should be up in a couple weeks. 4 stars for now but I'm excited to see this place get up and running!

This was my first time in a year having a "kid free" morning. I recently lost my mom the same week I gave birth to my son, so going out alone was honestly terrifying for me today. I decided to find a small coffee shop and came across Prayer Box Cafe and am so glad I did! Wonderful environment, cozy but bright and happy, family like service, and great music. I had the Beth's Quiche and an iced latte, both were phenomenal! I'll definitely be back

Awesome Quiche Katie the owner is great. A very welcoming group of employees. The coffee and drinks are great and priced fair. A local business owner working hard to provide a great establishment where folks can congregate and enjoy the coffee and food options.

A Hidden Gem Worth Finding…read more The day after the World Cup Final, we needed to find a place for lunch near our Airbnb. Sometimes those unplanned stops turn into the best discoveries, and that's exactly what happened at The Glass Cat. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Berkley, our server. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home. She knew the menu well and wasn't shy about making recommendations, which always earns extra points in my book. She told us The Glass Cat is known for their biscuits. I laughed and admitted, "I'm really not a biscuit guy." She smiled and insisted I at least try a half order. Well... she was right that they were good, but I've officially confirmed I'm still just not a biscuit guy. Nothing against theirs--I think I'm simply impossible to impress when it comes to biscuits! Since I'm familiar with this part of the country, I couldn't pass up the Tenderloin Sandwich. It wasn't exactly like the classic pork tenderloin sandwiches I've had elsewhere, but it was absolutely delicious. The pork was tender, the toppings were fresh, and the fries were cooked exactly the way I like them--golden brown with a nice crisp on the outside. At Berkley's recommendation, my wife ordered the Egg, Cheese & Bacon Biscuit with hash browns. She wasn't kidding about the bacon--it was thick, smoky, and full of flavor. I stole a bite (as good husbands do), and it was a really tasty breakfast sandwich. The hash browns were another highlight--crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. While we ate, we soaked in the local atmosphere. It was fun listening to everyone engage in a conversation. My wife and I discussed making our plans for the day and return trip for tomorrow. We made a quick stop at the nearby Price Chopper to grab a few things for the Airbnb. The Glass Cat Cafe may be a little off the beaten path, but that's often where you find the best local restaurants. Good food, generous portions, outstanding service, and a relaxed hometown vibe made this a memorable stop. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in the area. Chef T's Scorecard: * Food: 9/10 * ‍ Service: 10/10 (Thanks, Berkley!) * Value: 9/10 * Atmosphere: 8.5/10 Overall: Sometimes the best meals aren't found where everyone else is eating--they're found where the locals are. The Glass Cat Cafe is one of those places.

We ordered the country fried chicken with hash browns and the pumpkin pancakes, and every single thing on my plate was incredible. They were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and just the right amount of sweet and pumpkin. On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. If you're looking for a great local breakfast spot, don't let the small hole in the wall appearance fool you. this place is absolutely worth the visit, we'll definitely be back!

It's a lovely restaurant. It seems a bit out of the way with mostly corporate buildings around. The restaurant has a nice modern aesthetic. I like the purple hyacinths hanging from the ceiling in one area. It was very steady for an off time in the afternoon. First, our server Olivia was amazing! Very attentive and we were extra needy this day so I really appreciate her patience. We even dropped food on the floor. Oops! She was so nice about it and cleaned it up immediately. We had customizations and extra requests. No problem for her! She went above and beyond. I hope she sees this because she was such a joy! The food was also very good. We started with the biscuits and one peach compote and one blueberry. Both were yummy. They were traditional drop biscuits and I love a good biscuit! We also had an order of fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits. You get 4 very large slices. I could only eat one. The grits were yummy but there were not enough of them in relation to the friend green tomatoes. They were also encased by a sauce. I'm guessing a remoulade. I don't really care for remoulade sauce so I'd have removed it had I known it came with the dish. It really overpowered the goat cheese taste in the grits. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions. We will definitely return and I hope to try out a breakfast item next visit!

It also came with two eggs and a choice of side; I went with the fresh fruit, which was a great complement. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The only drawback was the limited staff. Our waiter was fantastic, but he was clearly stretched thin--handling seating, bar duties, takeout orders, and multiple tables all at once. It was a bit much for one person and did lead to longer wait times across the board. Hopefully, this was just a one-off situation, because the food and service quality were definitely there. I'd absolutely come back again.

We hit the club for brunch with a group, and while the ambiance was pure "Country Club Chic," the execution was a bit more "Sunday Morning Sand Trap." The Liquid Courage I started off my round with two drinks. the Bloody Mary. It was fine--tasty enough, but it certainly didn't change my life or inspire any poetry. However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.
