Been here before and found it satisfactory. I mean, not spectacular, but a fair-enough diner breakfast. But today, I do not know which was worse...the food or the service. Unfriendly waitress and funny aftertaste in hash browns. The chicken fried steak was cafeteria quality, the eggs had an slimy texture, bacon cold, and toast untoasted. Perky's has always been fairly average on the food and service, nothing special but it's kind of hard to mess up breakfast. We haven't been in 5 years but went today so we didn't have to leave town. It took absolutely forever to get our order taken and get food. Then once we finally got food it was pretty lackluster. The potatoes tasted like they were on the edge of going bad, the eggs were cold, and the pancakes were all burnt. I even ordered extra pancakes because my kids tear up ihop pancakes and they literally wouldn't eat more than a few bites because of how burned they were. To top it off prices have gone up dramatically since we last came so we left much poorer and with hungry kids. We won't be back. read more

Was told it was a good place to get corned beef and cabbage on St Patty's day..... wrong! Asked what came with meal and was told 2 pieces of meat , wedge of cabbage, potatoes and rye bread and was offered gluten free bread for wife's. Got 2 meals to go for that nights supper. Cost $26. That evening opened boxes wife's had one piece of meat and both pieces of the gluten free bread had small green mold spots, and meat and cabbage in both were so under cooked that even after 5 mins in a microwave both were too tough to eat/ chew. It was like the corned beef had been heated up but not cooked low & slow to make it eatable, like chewing on rubber! My wife threw hers out in the woods and I ate part of my potatoes and added pimento cheese to the rye for a sandwich. These people mean well, I'm sure. But man, I've never seen such a nightmare of egg missteps occur in my life. My poached eggs were cooked entirely through, like hard-boiled eggs with the white missing, sitting in water. My ham was burnt, and the hash brown's were as well more burnt than anything else. It was a wonder they brought any of this out at all. It seems the short-order cooks here absolutely know how to do one set of rudimentary tasks right, and even then they're seemingly done not-so well. I didn't know you could mess up hash browns from a box, but I guess through the complacency of such shortcuts, it's easy to lose respect for the vegetables and the art. My breakfast wasn't worth eating or photographing, so I sent it back and went hungry. I'd never try this place again. They attempt it, and the service is good, but the cooks are amateur at best - and not the good kind that make only three things excellent, but all things just meh. This place takes an hour to make a BLT. The orders are usually wrong. We have tried several times because our office is close. BLT is always wrong. When you order extra gravy on mashed they give you no gravy. Today i called to try and place an order and the lady sat the phone down and i spent 10 minutes listening to her sell a gift card before she hung up. Food was okay, nothing to write home to mom about. The egg whites on my skillet breakfast were a little runny and I ordered them over-medium to avoid that. The gravy tasted and looked like it was made with water. The coffee had to be creamed and sugared to taste decent. Sad, considering it's called "Perky's" Cafe and they have multiple coffee pots sitting atop of a dividing wall as decor. Speaking of decor...it SUCKS! They half-assed pinned two American flags to the wall at angles and underneath one posted a sign which read "WARNING Does Not Play Well With Liberals." Had I noticed that signage when I walked in I would have turned around and walked out! Sadly, I didn't notice it because we were meeting our daughter and grandson there and there were others in the restaurant so looking on the wall was not a priority. I noticed it after I was finished with my meal (I left half of my breakfast on my plate). I told our waitress as she rang us up at the register that she just served an entire table of "Liberals" and walked out. My husband paid and we left. Funny how they will be happy to take our money but won't play well (nicely) with us! No, we won't be back. The food nor service, and definitely not the "welcoming" decor was good enough to warrant another visit. Three of us went on a Saturday morning about 10:00am and was completely disappointed. Was in town for a baseball tournament and went in to eat between games. We waited 55 minutes for our cold food and just inhaled it because only had minutes to eat before needing to get back to ball fields. Our server brought us a drink upon sitting down and never returned to check on us or get more drinks. A completely different server brought us our cold food clearly after it had been sitting for awhile. What a waste of $44 for three breakfasts!!! Went there on Sunday Oct 10th for lunch and it was absolutely terrible. We sat there for a total of 50 mins, 10 mins eating and 40 mins waiting for our order. After a 40 min wait part of my order was cold so I sent it back and told them to take it off the bill. Flys we're literally all over the place, we constantly had to wave them away while we were trying to eat our food. The first time I went there to eat, I had two toast with the eggs scrambled in a heart shape connected to the toast. My first toast eggs were done. But the second toast when I put my fork though the egg, it was cooked done on each side but in the middle it was raw. So the person I was with wanted to go there to eat again her food was fine. So I wanted to order something different. So I ordered two pork chops. So I put the pork chop on my toast and took a bite. The thin pork chop was tough to bite into. By the time I got halfway through with the pork chop I looked at it then I noticed it was brown on both sides and raw in the middle. I informed the waitress she told the cook. It wasn't busy at all, as it was Monday and 9:30, but there was only one older lady waitress and she was kept pretty busy and sported an attitude as well. My friends and my waffles tasted burned and were overdone. I asked for the fruit cup instead of potatoes and received canned peaches. Canned peaches??? really...can't we at least get some fresh grapes or cantaloupe???...something that isn't in a can.. I had Perkys in Bashor mentioned on the comments section so I went out there.other than the 20 mile drive it was a ok drive to get out and see a little of the countryside.got there and it.another than it looks from outside and it did look nice and clean.ordered a half order of the b&g and had a cup.of Coffey with it..It wasn't bad at all.not the best but certainly not the worst at all.was pretty decent. The only thing that put me off of it was the price.1 biscuit and perhaps a half cup of gravy on it and 1 cup of Coffey and it was over $7 dollars. A bit to pricey for what you get. Okay, Basehor is a breakfast desert, so any breakfast place gets the benefit of a doubt. Perky's really doesn't need it. Their food stands on its own. Breakfast is pretty standard except when specials are on the menu. The breakfast quesadilla is really good. So are the omelets and the breakfast burrito, which is an especially good value. The B. A. B. (Bad Ass Breakfast sandwich) Is wonderful. Plan to share if you aren't a big eater. The BAB is usually a daily special but they will serve it anytime if you ask. Hash browns, fried egg, ham, sausage, bacon and cheese served as a sandwich. My personal favorite. Staff is always friendly and make you want to come back. The owners work there too, so service and quality are very consistent. Hamburgers are very good, but the perky turkey sandwich is original and tasty. The best review is that after opening in Basehor less than a year ago, the have doubled their space to meet the demand. read more

Its been a while since I first reviewed this place and after recent trips to Perkys, it was time to update my review. The food is the same. Nothing special but also nothing that keeps me from going back. Like I said before, if I was more motivated, I would go to IHOP, but this is in my backyard and I do enjoy supporting local. The service has really gone downhill in my eyes. Today, my waitress forgot to put in my order and I had to wait an extra 10ish minutes for my breakfast. No big deal. I didn't mind. Where it did become a deal breaker for me is that she never came to say anything about it. No "Sorry for your wait or Sorry it took so long, I messed up." From where I was sitting, next to the kitchen, I could hear everything being said. When the food came out, the waitress tried to pawn the lateness of the food off on the kitchen staff. Come on, I heard everything you were saying. Then when I didn't tip as well as I usually do, I get a nasty face after she checks the ticket. This is just one story of the poor service that I have received in the past few months. To write about each and everyone of them would take too long. When the place first opened, they were doing what all new places do when then open. Their service was top notch and what you expect at any restaurant. In my opinion, the staff has lost that touch that made them worth going to. Like I said above, I didn't go for the food. I went because its local and for the service. For now on, I'll just drive the extra 10 minutes to go to IHOP at Legends. Sorry, Perkys. read more

What a treat Perky's was his morning! I'm visiting my parents in Basehor for the holidays (my husband and I live in Nashville) and we were looking for a yummy breakfast this morning for my birthday. Perky's is a very cozy place and when I walked in the first thing I noticed was the smell! Many breakfast diners smell like grease and it sticks to your clothes and hair all day, but Perky's smelled like grandma's kitchen and maple syrup! Our food came out prepared just as we had ordered and service was speedy. Service was fantastic and they could not have been more welcoming. We love going to breakfast at Perky's! The owners and staff are very friendly and talk to you, but not at the expense of other people's dining experience. My boyfriend and I have taken to ordering the breakfast burrito (get it smothered in gravy!) and splitting it, trust us is big enough to share! If you happen to be there on a weekend they are serving Irish Toffee coffee--get it! There can be a bit of a wait during peak hours, but it's always been worth it for us. Oh!
