A very cute diner in Platte City. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and promptly sat. The whole atmosphere of the place was very warm and welcoming. I ordered the chicken fried chicken plate. The chicken was cooked very well and the gravy and roll were delicious. To me, corn sides don't usually have much flavor and this was on par with the usual. I wish the chicken and mashed potatoes had more flavor, but at least they give you plenty of gravy. read more

My wife and I stopped by Roxanne's around 11 AM after a chilly morning at a local soccer game, having struck out at Waffle House and Country Cafe. We were seated quickly, which was a plus, but the place was surprisingly empty for a weekend brunch. The decor is very dated, think cheap country-western vibes with photos of locals on the walls, like stepping into a time capsule. Our server was prompt with our drink orders. I got an iced tea, and my wife ordered a hot tea, both of which arrived quickly. They took our food order efficiently too, so no complaints about the service speed. For food, my wife went with a breakfast scramble served with an English muffin, and I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with hashbrowns and toast. The food came out hot and fast, but that's where the positives end. My wife's scramble looked nice but lacked flavor and was overcooked to the point of being hard. The English muffin was just okay, nothing special. My omelet was a letdown. It had a single slice of unmelted cheese slapped on top, barely any ham, and the egg was dry and tough. The hashbrowns were undercooked, and the toast was dry as well. Overall, not a great experience. If you're starving and have no other options, Roxanne's might do in a pinch, but don't expect much. We likely won't be back unless we're desperate. read more

Server She never said her name. Ambiance It's an American Cafe that features Southern cooking. Food The sweet tea was bland. The patty melt was easily customizable to include pepper jack cheese. The patty melt was extra greasy and the homemade chips were served warm and a bit soggy. The good news is they were happy to correct it. The meatloaf was okay. The roll and the mashed potatoes were wonderful. They redid the patty melt and I asked them to toast the bread and I got apple sauce. Much improved!! We will start with each category and rate them So food 2 stars I got the breakfast sampler With overeasy eggs and it was well just average 3 Star's the hash browns I ordered extra crispy like a hockey puck were mushy and loaded with grease same with the eggs and the bacon there was a pool of grease on my plate I also ordered the real mashed potatoes they were extremely cold and off the eggs were cooked right but not much flavor besides grease my wife got the breaded tenderloin with gravy I will give that 1 star it tasted as of old grease and left a very bad after taste was just very off putting but the Mac and cheese was decent and the backed potatos was okay was a little old but the star of the show was the cinnamon roll five stars was extremely fresh and very flavored and huge Easley the best thing on there menu and maybe all of Platte city .. Don't waste your money going here. The ham and cheese omelette was small and was not worth the 25 minute wait for the food we ordered. We would have been better off going to Waffle House down the street. I really don't know how this place stays open. I had an early lunch today at Roxanne's (11am) and was not hungry again until 5:30pm. From the first time I ate there it's been home plate. Carrie and Chelby head up the nicest, friendliest bunch of waitresses in the nation. It's always the best meal I get all week - good home cooking in just a wonderful and friendly atmosphere. I don't know who Roxanne is but she would be rolling in her grave if she knew the trials and tribulations we faced at the hands of Karen J. We waited for our food for well over an hour -- multiple parties of six were served before us. And, she touched my boyfriend and myself an excessive amount...keep your paws off lady! Blamed the kitchen for being slow, but lo and behold, she never put our tickets in. Giving this place one star instead of zero because of the bond we created with other patrons who were also stuck waiting for a mediocre breakfast with us. Will not be returning, EVER!!!!!!!!!! Great service and the food wasn't too bad. The breakfast seems to be better then lunch/dinner. They serve breakfast all day long. Pancakes and eggs were good, but the ham was burnt and very salty. The strawberry pie wasn't the best or the worst I ever had, but out of 1-10 scale I would give it a 4. All in all not a bad place to eat, but I recommend getting breakfast. read more

The server went up to the window to ask for fresh fries and the owner started talking very loud at us across the diner saying we cook to order here so nothing is cold. We just brushed it off but then when she brought them over she made a comment that here are fresh fries cause you said the other ones were cold when they weren't. Wtf?? Seriously?? Rudest Ever. Even the server apologized and said she is the owner what can I say. How about chill out. It's ok that something wasn't perfect. No biggie just fix it. Wanted to try this place. Lots of employees. Seemed like they hire local high school kids so service was ok, not great. People were friendly, but would forget to get a refill because they were all gathered in a group by the kitchen talking. Took about 30 minutes from order to delivery to the table. Wasn't very busy when we came in. There was a lot of food all over the floor, someone had their dog with them and after it stopped scratching repeatedly the owner got up to leave letting the dog eat as they went. Food was good. Staff is awful. You will be ignored for several minutes before being acknowledged. You'll enjoy watching them stand around the kitchen window and/or restocking supplies. The restaurant is far from clean. I don't think they own a vacuum cleaner. Finding a clean table can be challenge too. Most will have plates and stuff cleared away but food scraps and trash on them. My favorite place to eat down home cooking. I have visited several times for breakfast and lunch and never had a bad meal. The portions are large but not overwhelming (thankfully, because you'll want to eat it all). I especially enjoyed the meatloaf, apple sauce, and their cheeseburgers. The pies look amazing but I've never had enough room to try one. I think breakfast is my favorite meal though. The place gets packed around meal times, but I've never had trouble waiting for a seat. Choice came with bacon toast and hashbrowns. Eggs were as ordered. Bacon tasted ok. Hashbrowns were greasy and poor. Wife had biscuits and gravy which is served with sausage patties. The biscuits were dry and the gravy was bland. The sausage was not edible. Dry and hard to the point of crumble. Nasty. We had heard SO much positive on the place & weekends are always busy.
