I was recently in Lawrence to visit my son who attends KU. I've been craving bakery quality dishes…read moreand live in a very small town that just doesn't have any good options. This place BLEW ME AWAY. I tried the lemon custard croissants, cherry danishes, and salted chocolate chip cookies. Everything was so buttery, flaky, salty, sweet!! The perfect mix. Their delicate laminated pastries are as good as anything I've ever tried and even as good as the little shop in Paris that has been the object of my affections since I visited many, many years ago. There's really no seating, it's a tiny space with some chair rails so don't go expecting a sit down experience. But do go expecting to taste the best pastries you've ever had! (Oh small side note, bathroom was pristine and so nice!) Apple Maps doesn't take you to the right location but google maps does.

Ordered items for Easter dinner. The carrot cake was amazing, very moist cake with a light and…read moredelicious frosting. Loved it didn't contain nuts since I was serving to guests and wasn't aware of any allergies. Was a little disappointed with the hot cross buns. They tasted amazing and were a hit, but the traditional cross on top wasn't present. Also was baked in a round container instead of the advertised and traditional rectangle. Staff was so nice from the ordering, payment and pick up. Pick up was at the sisters store Taylor's donuts which tempted me with the apple fritters and amazing smells.

First of all, in a post COVID time, it is hard to find a place that is 24/7. If any place needs to…read moremake it, it's a donut shop. The creme cheese donuts are something a newcomer should try. The cinn rolls including the minis were flavorful and soft. Even if you are always fighting for the gooey soft middle, the minis will meet you there. My kids like the strawberry twist and topped cinn. rolls. Skip the crossaint as it was flat. The pecan filled one isn't half bad. I would stick with the twists. I came around 1030 on a Sunday. They had prompt service. I like a place that has wifi. One thing I overheard was that they were already out of chocolate milk. Kind of sad for a place that could cater to lots of little kids. Nevertheless, there are mini rushes where the lines goes 8 deep out of the blue.

Well, I really wanted some cookies. I started out going to Hot Box, but unfortunately they were…read moreclosed. So I looked up bakeries in the area and this one said it was open 24 seven so put it in my GPS and there I went. It was about 7pm. When I arrived. I was so disappointed because of the lack of selection in the display cases. The only things that looked edible were mini cupcakes and a cake. There was also the lack of greeting from the one dude, who looked like he didn't want to be there, behind the counter. There were two other parties that came in front of me and I didn't see him greet them either. AnyWho, there was not anything that looked good or fresh in the display cases, I asked him if this was all they had and he simply replied, Yes, they bake in the morning. Why is it open 24/7 when they only bake in the morning? I don't know if the others purchased anything, but I left empty handed. I refuse to pay for old cookies and pastries.

This place has become a meeting-place standard in my monthly routine. The earlier in the day you…read morevisit, the busier they are- but if you wait, you won't get a curry croquette! The staff are friendly, efficient, and well versed in their products. Some of the furniture could use a refresh (some of the upholstered chairs are looking worn) but overall the decor is pleasant and the entire facility is clean, clean, clean! I often order a hot tea with a savory pastry, but if you're looking for something special, the Mont Blanc pastry and the pistachio matcha latte are very popular. On one recent visit, my friend ordered the apricot pastry, and I got an ube donut and a mushroom tart. So good! The cream under the apricot was so light and fluffy. The combination of long open hours, friendly staff, and very fresh pastries makes this shop an essential spot in west Lawrence.

Not sure if this is a fair review because I didn't actually go to the restaurant. I can't tell you…read moreif it was clean if their selection was great or their prices because my niece bought me a couple of donuts after hearing me say I would like a cookie or a doughnut and the Hotbox in Lawrence was no longer open. I gave the twist a three average because that's how they tasted. They weren't glazed twist, they were baked and sprinkled with sugar and maybe some cinnamon. They weren't "the donut" I was used to. They weren't too sweet, which was good, but they really didn't taste like a doughnut it was more like sweet bread.
