Rootbeer cupcake

These were the people at the Electric City, and they were also at the Westport Food Truck Festival. I attended this with Sara D. She knows coffee, me, not so much, lol. It is a truck, with EFHobb's coffee. I've not actually had the coffee. But I think the foodtruck idea is fantastic, and I love every minute of it .I've had better food from foodtrucks, than restaurants, and certainly better service. This truck (the orange coffee truck) is no exception. While Sara ordered coffee, I chose a cupcake. I had the choice of several cupcakes, and chose the one I couldn't figure out how they made (I fiddle with cakes and ingredients and cupcakes and frosting nearly every weekend). So therefore, when given the opportunity, I tend to order the flavors that I'd not think of. At the Westport Foodtruck Festival, they had an outstanding amount of cupcakes to choose from and i ordered the rootbeer float belly cupcake. It was definitely made from scratch. I can tell scratch cakes and mix cakes in the first bite or two, normally. It had a taste of ginger, and rootbeer was fragrant and I could taste it. I'm trying to figure out the icing, it was more like a creamy icing, but could've had marshmallow. It had a rootbeer jelly belly on top. The cake was moist all the way through. I don't remember the price. But the yumminess of the cupcake I'll never forget.

I was lucky enough to have CoffeeCakeKC in our work parking lot for an hour mid-morning (during that perfect time of the day where your cup joe from earlier isn't cutting it anymore)! My co-workers and I were able to escape our desks long enough to enjoy some goodies from their food truck and with zero disappointment. Their prices were pleasingly cheaper than most coffee or dessert trucks I've seen. I took the time to also enjoy a slice of coffee cake, I mean, it's in their name so it's a must. Even though the cake was perfectly moist and flavorful, it tasted even better having an iced vanilla latte to wash it down with. Nothing like some mid-morning joy for a Tuesday!

My daughter said "this is the best coffee truck in the whole world!"

Disappointed that they couldn't do decaf, but the truffle hot chocolate stands on its own merits! Fun interlude to a busy day downtown KC.

The reason why I am not giving this place 5 stars is because of the lack of customer service. Both the cashier and barista were not very friendly. They were brisk. I tried to engage in a converation about their pastries and they seemed disinterested and just wanted to move on to taking orders and making drinks. They weren't even busy. I arrived an hour after they opend and the place was 10% full. The food was good. I got the avocado toast and with a littl more salt and hot sauce; it was delicious. The place also smelled amazing. I was engulfed in the aroma of cinnamon, sugar and butter and roasted coffee. I could not have been happier except for the lack of warmth and feeling of connection and a sense of community one often gets in an independent coffee shop. The hot latte I got was good. Oat-milk was $1.25 extra which I thought was a bit steep for Kansas City. But I guess prices/inflation affects us all. The ham and cheese croissant I got was super delicious. It was better than the avocado toast. I would get the croissant again. The rooftop area was a vibe. There were more people up there talking so it had better energy. I think on the first and second floor, most people were just working and on their laptops, so it was overall very quiet.

With a variety of flavors (both standard and unique) there is truly something for everyone. I tried an elderberry latte and enjoyed it. However, after having spent a fairly small amount of hours eating an alarming amount of BBQ (and ice cream) I just needed a place to sit and digest without eating. My local friend mentioned Thou Mayest as an opportunity to sit for a bit without having to eat. I was looking at their non-coffee options and saw they had a local kombucha on tap, perfect to help with my overstuffed belly. On top of that I did buy a bag of beans; just because I don't drink coffee meant that I didn't have people that enjoy it. More importantly, the kombucha was pretty good and it was nice to sit and relax a little in a pretty cool space. My friend and I had a large space to ourselves near the front hangout area that was like a cross between a outdoor camping space.

The space is very bright and cute - great for a visit to read or doodle (I did a little doodling of the shop during my visit). They even have a little shop area with some super cute and unique KC gear. I had a hot hazelnut latte and it was just okay, the flavor was pretty bland in my opinion and it was automatically served in a to go cup which bums me out. I like to sit and enjoy my coffee right there and love a good hot mug, it's part of the visit experience to me. The cute shop and incredible staff made my visit itself great overall, but the coffee could be leveled up a bit. Nonetheless, I would visit again :)

I do appreciate the good quality though and thankfully had some time to kill. It isn't a place I would go if I was in a rush, but it great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely bring my laptop and hang out.
