Sweet Chili Wings and Monster Nachos
    Lauren M.

seriously you haven't had wings until you've had them from deez nachos inside parlor on the menu: sweet chili smoked wings, monster nachos, and tatchos our thoughts: the quality of the ingredients used in every dish truly shines through, thick cut chips, creamy cheese, crispy tots, and meaty wings. everything in the menu is outstandingly delicious our tip: go hungry and order at least the wings and tatchos, both are too good to miss out on

Cousins Maine Lobster has been around the KC area for a few years now. I had been to a few pop ups…read morewhen they were just starting out here, back when wait times were 2 hours. They have a bigger presence now and do more frequent pop ups so I decided to try them out again. They are just a food truck. You can check out their social media to see when and where they'll be. They also have an app but I have issues with it every single time. On my most recent visit I was unable to order online and had to do so from the truck which was fine but a little irritating. The individuals working the truck were nice but they were a bit unorganized-the iPad for payment was off, I was unable to get a receipt, I wasn't able to scan my app to get points, and I just had to guess/stand around for my food because they didn't seem to have a way to notify me that my order was up. I wasn't able quote five minutes and it was close to that amount of time. I like the lobster grilled cheese paired with the lobster bisque. The grilled cheese isn't huge but it is filling and they put a good amount of lobster in it. The bisque wasn't as good as I remembered it, it used to be richer and it seemed a little thinner than it was in the past. But it was still good with chunks of lobster. I've also had the lobster rolls and they are a little on the small side. They have a new lobster roll flight where you get to the all three varieties. And honestly, that's the way to go. You'll get the most bang for your buck and way more lobster than by getting just one. Overall, it's good and I like to visit them every now and then. They are on the pricey side for a food truck but it's lobster and we live in the landlocked Midwest so it is what it is. If you're wanting something different and feel like some lobster, definitely check them out.

I hate leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately my experience was really disappointing. I drove…read moreabout 30 minutes to the Kansas City location at Westlake Ace because the hours posted on the Cousins Maine Lobster website showed 11:30 AM-7:30 PM. I arrived around 7:03 PM. At first, I went to the wrong side of the truck because I didn't see anyone. I could hear people in the back, so I went around and asked, "Hey, did you guys close early or something?" The employee responded, "We didn't close early. We close at 7," and the way it was said came across as very rude and dismissive. I explained that the website showed they were open until 7:30 PM. He told me it didn't. I even asked if there was anything I could purchase since I had driven 30 minutes based on the hours posted online, and I was told no. I completely understand that employees have a closing time and that schedules can change. My issue is that the hours posted online said 7:30 PM, and I arrived before that time. I also have a photo of the truck timestamped at 7:12 PM, so I was clearly there before the posted closing time. I would have been much more understanding if someone had simply said, "Sorry, our actual closing time is 7 PM and the website hasn't been updated," or even apologized for the confusion. Instead, I felt like I was being treated as though I was at fault for following the hours provided by the business. Unfortunately, I left without getting to try the food, and the interaction left a really bad first impression. I hope the hours are corrected so other customers don't drive out there expecting to be served, only to find out the truck has already closed.

Once I looked over the menu, I knew I was interested in trying more than one side item, so I was pleased to know the porkchop sandwich came with fries! I placed my order over the phone, and picked up about 20 minutes later. The sandwich comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and pickles. The porckchop itself was seasoned well, and cooked perfectly! It's been a minute since I've had fried mushrooms, so when I saw them on the menu, I knew I was going to include them in my order. They were delicious, but some of the pieces were just the breading with no mushrooms inside. I'd still order them again! I'm a risk taker. My order totaled around $19, so if you're in the mood for something hearty, filling, and low cost, this is your place. --The restaurant itself was nice and clean, and the employee that assisted me was very kind. There's no seating inside, but there's a table outside that could be used when it's warm.

A Hidden Gem in Kansas City!…read more We flew into Kansas City for a quick getaway and, of course, we had to find some good local food! After searching for tacos, we put the car in motion and headed to Tacos El Gallo on Southwest Blvd--and I'm so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by two beautiful, spirited Hispanic young ladies who were incredibly welcoming and took the time to explain the menu and help us decide what to try. We went with the chicken, steak, and birria tacos, along with corn elote. We paired everything with mango and hibiscus agua fresca, and let me just say... WHEW! Everything was fresh, but lacked seasoning! The birria tacos were definitely a standout, but honestly, we enjoyed everything we ordered. And the customer service made the experience even better. If you're visiting Kansas City and looking for some authentic, flavorful tacos with great hospitality, put Tacos El Gallo on your list! I wish I would've had more time to look around the market because it looked like they had a lot of good stuff but I'll have to go back and see. They do have tables inside that you can eat at. The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day. Definitely check them out if you're on the boulevard and want some tasty, Mexican grub.
