Is nice - busy for Friday, on the noisy side, but that could be expected. Server was very attentive for all the traffic. Started with the wings, which were amazing. The dry rubber is perfect and if you like cilantro, this is for you short rib enchilada was incredibly tender, and I would get that a minute get that again. The sauce on the crab and shrimp enchiladas I could literally just drink. It was so smooth and zingy- definitely a winner. My wife and I went on a Wednesday night! We were able to be seated right away. Chips and salsa provided at our table were really good and the customer service was good throughout! My wife got the fajita burrito and she overall thought it was good. I tried it and thought it'd be better if there was some lighter flavors like lettuce to balance the flavors. Ambiance - clean, bright and smells smoky on entrance - I love a good smoky cooking scent! Food - top notch! Intro chips and salsa were good! Chips 5/5, but salsa may be more like 3/5 - I just found it a bit "typical" like a store bought salsa or something. But it was plenty tasty for us to enjoy it! All their lunch options cost. Bit less and come in smaller portions - ALLLLL of which tasted amazing. It came out pretty quickly too! Server was totally awesome, although her name escapes me. The serives was amazing we were asked if we needed refills and anything else , not to the point of being annoying, but receiving great service. I live a mile away from this Cactus Grill and have been many times. It can get super busy during prime hours, but I've never had to wait longer than 20 minutes. Highlights for me would be the chips and salsa along with the espinaca dip. Espinaca dip is a must every time and is one of the main reasons I frequent Cactus Grill. The chips are light and crispy and perfect for cheese dip. I've tried many menu items. My most frequent order is the house chimichanga. I'm not a huge fan of the rice options I've had here. I know Cactus Grill is tex-mex, but I prefer a more traditional Mexican rice rather than the desert or cilantro rice here. I also prefer the refried beans over the black beans. It can get pretty loud as it's typically busy. There are a few tvs generally playing sports. There's also a nice outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. I generally enjoy Cactus Grill and will continue to dine here. I will say the service can be a bit inconsistent. I would probably go with 3.5 stars if I could but not there to go up to 4 stars. read more

This is a local chain tied to Jose Peppers. The food is consistent and the service is hit and miss, but a good quick place to get some good TexMex. I like stopping in after lunch, before dinner for a quiet place to do some work and get some good food. The chips and salsa are amazing! It has the feel of a TexMex place, so what you would expect. For Bev I got a frozen strawberry marg, very yummy and not too sweet! I know it's odd to order salmon at a Mexican restaurant but their blackened salmon always hits! The food is very good and the quesadilla was cooked perfectly and tastes amazing the next food is Chips the chips tasted flavorful and well salted. The service is amazing and the food came within 20 minutes and the waiter checked in around every 10 minutes. Why I gave this a 3/5 was because there was a very long hair in my queso and i have short hair so it couldn't have been mine. Showed up with two kids for dinner. The hostess asked if we wanted two kids menus. I replied yes. The waitress took our drink order and I mentioned they wioukd be ordering off the kids menu which was the only menu they had. She came back with full size drinks. My bill had $6 in additional soft drinks on it. When I pointed out soft drinks are included on the kids menu she argued and said only slushies are. I showed her the menu. She then argued and said only styrofoam drinks are included. I said you didn't bring that or offer that as an option. She shrugged her shoulders and kind of laughed and said she "had" to charge me. Overcharging a customer to increase the bill and tips is never ok. The food wasn't even good and I go to the Leawood location often and never have an issue with the food or service. Lukewarm queso and my fajitas had one tiny chunk of a pepper and all onions. Don't waste your time on poor service, mediocre food and dishonest pricing. read more

We went to Cactus Grill for dinner and it had changed. We used to go there over 30 years ago and moved across the city, so we started going to Jose Peppers because they are owned by the same company. We decided to try Cactus Grill and the food had changed and was a bit more up scale than Jose's Peppers. I had fish tacos and the host brought some chicken Morito to try and it was amazing but a bit spicy. The tacos were good and salsa unlike Jose's that is to hot, This was the salsa we used to buy by the gallon and was awesome. The menu items are a little different but really good. I switched the beans out for the mexican street corn and it was good but also had a strong kick of flavor. The rice was different from the chimichanga rice and had a somewhat curry flavor to it, which to my taste I was not a fan of. The ambiance was a relaxed night out with friends and family. Been going here since it opened. Recently changed menu and it wasn't great. The chicken mix in the tamale and taquitos is now a sweet bbq like chicken. No one at the table approved. No more sweet corn cake with entrees. Tacos seemed smaller but were still tasty. Queso was tasty. Beer was cold. The original Cactus Grill on 119th was amazing many years ago. Our waitress, Gabrielle, was great and so quick with our chips, drinks, and food orders! She also gets a special shout-out for dealing with my needy friend's request for a certain taco that is not carried on your menu. Gabrielle made it happen even when my friend was not expecting it and a lot of restaurants would have immediately dismissed the thought. Props! All three of us shared the espinaca and guac which were both very delicious! I've ordered their jalapeno margarita before I knew that I needed to be productive after lunch so I went with the house marg instead. The jalapeno one comes in a much larger glass which was my hesitation even though it's an absolute delight. As for my entrée decision, their tacos are yummy but the Chicken Avocado Enchiladas caught my eye this time around and I was not disappointed. It was so good and I was so full even with it being the lunch portion....granted, I went to town on chips, cheese, and guac so that could have been the reason. I enjoyed my opening day dine-in experience. I liked the clean, new, and nice dining area with a long bar area (with TVs), a good mix of booths & tables, and contemporary background music. The menu prices were reasonable, with frequent email offers available, complimentary (and tasty) thin & crispy chips with medium chunky salsa, and nice happy hour eats & drinks (3 - 6 pm daily), while the service was welcoming, cheerful, and efficient. I have enjoyed other area Cactus Grill / Jose Peppers locations, and I'm happy to have this new location in my 'hood. Make sure you come hungry. Very nice! read more

Weeknight evening at 5:45. It was busy, but we didn't have to wait. Chips and salsa - they serve with a mild salsa that's tomato-y and chunky. We asked for the hot which was blended and well seasoned. It's a personal preference thing! I tried the Margherita Chicken. It was WONDERFUL. The veggies were perfectly cooked, the pesto was fresh and the mesquite grilled chicken was tasty. I'd order again but I'd skip the corn - too much mayo for my taste! Our first visit to the Cactus Grill in southern Overland Park was quite a disappointment. Beginning with the employee we spoke to on the phone to take our take-out order. This woman, upon being told we wanted to place an order to pick up said "Just a second." We then heard her say to a co-worker "What do I do if somebody wants to pick up an order?" The co-worker said "Give it to 'em." When My wife went into the restaurant 20 minutes later, she stood near the register for several minutes without being acknowledged by an employee. She finally spotted a sign, not facing the front door, indicating carry-out orders should be picked up at the end of the bar. While standing in that location, she saw cardboard box full of sliced limes sitting on the flooring in the kitchen. An employee in the kitchen picked up an empty box nearby and as he did so, some residual liquid in the otherwise empty box sloshed out and landed in the box of sliced limes. The employee didn't seem to notice. The entire time she was in the restaurant my wife was not greeted by an employee. All that was said to her is "Have you been helped yet." We have dined and received carry- out from a sister restaurant, Jose Peppers, near 143rd and Metcalf for many years. There has not been a single negative experience at that location in about 100 visits. We will drive the extra two or three miles to that location in the future. read more
