    Chips and salsa

We tried out this restaurant today and the host and server were very nice and excellent service throughout. The restaurant is dated in appearance but clean and all the people that worked there were friendly that we interacted with. They have a dedicated smaller gluten free menu. My husband had the Verde chili enchiladas off their regular menu and I had the chicken quesadilla off the gluten free menu. They both came with a choice of beans and jalapeño rice. I just chose not to have the beans on my plate. They serve chips and salsa, which were good and both of our meals were also good and plentiful and hot. We would both go back and try another dish next time.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Shane and Alejandro provided exceptional service during my visit. The table was pre-bussed, drinks were always topped off, and the food was served quickly! I will definitely be returning to this restaurant, the music was an added bonus! What a spectacular outing to Mi Ranchito. I wish everyone could experience Shane's attention to customer service.

Mi Ranchito has several location in the greater Kansas City area. I've been to a couple of them but not at this location located close to downtown Overland Park. Inside the dining area look outdated. We got seated in a booth for dinner around 6:30pm. The waiter we had was newly hired a few days ago. He was nice and attentive. Their menu was extensive. Almost hard to make your selection. I ordered there combo that came with Enchiladas, tostada and a burrito. The food was okay. There just wasn't any flavor to them and seem bland. Like we were served left over food that was just heated up again. I would probably not go back to this location.

We usually go to the one on 151st but saw a review in a group and this one was so cute decided to try it. We went in Monday, had such an amazing dinner that we went back tonight (Tuesday). Our servers both nights were beyond friendly and knowledgeable. I forgot Mondays server name but tonight was Marcos and he was the absolute best! I had the tortilla soup both nights and I just want a gallon of it, the best I have ever had. The toppings added to it overall, and the fresh avocado was so tasty. Really, get it, you won't be the same after. Is getting it 3 days in a row excessive? Hmmmm Taco Tuesday tacos $1 each, ground beef or chicken. The ground beef is well seasoned, and delicious. The avocado salsa is another must try. This is a must and my new favorite place.

This was perfection after a long week!

Mi Ranchito always has spectacular service. They are super consistent with the quality as well as flavor of their queso and salsa! The restaurant is always clean and tidy.

    cold cast iron fajitas...

I've been coming to this place in old Overland Park for years but the service and quality I received this weekend has put an end to that. It's really disappointing when a location like this that used to be really good turns into a poor version of what it used to be. My girlfriend and I stopped in for an "early" dinner about 6pm on a Weds night and I should've known by the low customer count something was up. There were maybe 3-4 other couples at tables and I was hoping for speedy service since they weren't busy but that didn't happen. Our waiter would literally disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. It took about 20 minutes just to get an order of espinaca dip. When it arrived, it came in a "new" fried tortilla bowl, which I'd never seen them do before and that was fine. However, it tasted like they had changed from their white queso cheese to some pre-processed version that wasn't very good. It took another good 15 minutes before our waiter showed up again to take our orders and by that point a large crowd of people had showed up and filled up the place. I was thinking, okay, we got here before the rush so we should get our food pretty quick. Nope. My girlfriend ordered chicken fajitas and when they finally arrived almost 50 minutes after we had arrived, they were absolutely some of the worst fajitas I've ever seen. The cast iron skillet that is usually so hot that the food on it is sizzling was so cold you could touch it directly with no issues. The onions and peppers were nothing but a wet mash sitting in a puddle of oil and water and the "grilled" chicken was cut into huge sections and laid on top. With the whole thing being luke-cold, she chose not to eat any of it. It took us another 15minutes to find our waiter again and by that time, I had finished my meal and we opted to just leave at that point. The manager was understanding and removed the fajitas and the espinaca dip from our bill but that was the least she could do in my opinion. I refuse to accept poor/sub-quality food at a restaurant considering how expensive it is to eat out anymore. I guess from now on I'll be heading to Jalapenos instead.

House Margarita's and chips, salsa & Espinaca dip

This was my first visit to Mi Ranchito. Started with the Espinaca Dip and a Margarita....both were very good. They have a great menu as far as variety and I had lots to choose from for what I tend to like. I chose the La Crema Chnimichanga. It had a very good flavor but I would have liked some kind of sauce or cheese on top...it seemed kind of dry. It was not as crispy as other Chimi's I have had, buy all said, it had a very good flavor. I would definitely go again and try one of the other many selections.

Secondly, when I went home, I was just expecting tacos, and found this wide array of grilled vegetables in my takeout order. Thirdly, several of the tacos were insanely delicious. The server was pretty chill when I was placing my order. And the music in the background was Bad Bunny style, fun stuff.

Respectfully, nothing was fundamentally wrong with the food, but it didn't distinguish itself. I'd eat there again if nearby, but wouldn't travel for it. Service was good for ordering and receiving time. From order to table was approximately 10 minutes which is exceptional considering the quantity of food ordered. The tables needed to be wiped down, and the table service was pretty much non-existent. You order your food at a register, seat yourself and that's that. No waitress or water; you have to buy bottled water. Price point was ~$65 for the taco platter and another ~$10 for the quesabirria tacos. This filled up the family of 4 with leftovers. There is a condiments / salsa bar but customers ran through it and there was mixed food between all the containers. The pickled red onion has their own kick to it which I enjoyed and their salsas/hot sauces are good. The decor is pretty straightforward, tables and chairs, with typical music you'd expect from other Mexican restaurants. Futbol on the TV's and old movies on others. There is a chef at the opposite end of where you order your food, hats off to that man he was very receptive and worked very hard. He helped with getting our table wiped down, our waters, and to go stuff for our leftovers, if he sees this, I want him to know I appreciated his efforts. This review is for my first time experience in Overland Park. I do not know if this is normal or because it was a Sunday that this is what the experience is but I will say, If they offered free water, had a busser, and kept the place more tidy it easily would elevate the rating.

The service was okay! Nothing super special but they answered questions and were helpful at the counter. This was our first time here so we ordered a few things to sample and share amongst ourselves. The first thing we had was the chips and queso, which I thought was a bit expensive at $7.99 but not too bad. The queso was fairly spicy but otherwise nothing special. I usually love queso so it surprised me how neutral I felt toward it! The chips were good, thin and light with a crispy bite to them. We unfortunately didn't get to try the salsa, noticing only at the end of our meal that there was a sauce bar near the counter! The birria tacos were also...okay. They were very juicy but not very uniquely flavored compared to everything else we tried. The meat was tender and I loved the texture of the tortilla, but didn't care for the massive handful of cilantro dropped on top of everything on the plate. The dipping liquid (birria sauce?) was alright! It was the same flavor as the tacos themselves so it didn't add much, but it definitely wasn't bad. The "main course" of what we ordered was a combo of soft chicken tacos, rice, and beans. The chicken tacos were unfortunately very cold by the time we got them which was a bit strange, as almost everything else was hot! They tasted good but I'm really not a fan of eating cold chicken, so I passed them off to my friends. The beans were just okay. There's really not much to say about them. The rice also left me disappointed! I typically devour Spanish rice. Not only was it cold, there were also odd, hard grains of rice mixed in. Not enough to get one every bite but enough that the experience of eating it was off-putting. It was also quite bland. Another note: While we were eating, there was this constant loud droning coming from the air conditioner. I'm a MASSIVE fan of air conditioning so I'm grateful it was on in the first place, but that is something they really need to get fixed. Two women seated near us actually got up and walked outside after commenting multiple times about how disturbing the noise was. My experience here was definitely a mixed bag but it leaned toward the positive, so we'll likely try them again! They had several other menu items I'd like to try, including some American fare that I found intriguing.

My build-your-own weekday lunch ($8) included choice of entrée, choice of beans and rice. It was served just ten minutes after I ordered at the table, which gave me time to dig into the complimentary chips and mild (with a little kick), somewhat chunky salsa. The chicken tinga burrito was packed full of moist, white chicken and topped with a very flavorful sauce and cheese. I found the black beans to be pretty good, but the rice was somewhat dry and clumpy. The dining area had a central bar area, unique light fixtures, a mix of booths and tables, Mexican decor, Mexican background music (not too loud), a table-side cart for fresh guacamole and several backdrop spots for photos. I also noticed two rollup garage doors leading to the covered patio area. The food and drink menus included Mexican favorites, taco flights, taquito flights, margarita flights, 88 tequilas, meals for the kiddos and brunch (Sat & Sun 11AM - 2PM).
