I enjoyed the good Mexican food, the good atmosphere, the reasonable prices and the excellent service during my dine-in lunch visit. My #33 fajita burrito lunch ($11.99) included a nicely sized burrito packed with plenty of tasty, moist meat and fajita veggies. It also included okay portions of flavorful rice and beans along with a small salad and a small dessert. It was served just nine minutes after I ordered at the table, which gave me time to dig into the complimentary thin & crispy chips, salsa verde and mild, tasty salsa. I found the service to be stellar - attentive, cheerful, friendly and polite - nice! The beverage, chips and salsa refills kept coming. The spacious interior was clean and colorful with a main dining area, a secondary dining area and a bar area with more seating. I noticed Mexican background music and several TVs in the bar area. Parking in downtown OP is a free for all, so the lot in front of the restaurant was full before the restaurant opened. It's good that there were plenty of free parking lots and street parking nearby. I stopped by for lunch with a friend and we had such a good time! We sat on the patio and it was nice and quiet and the sun felt beautiful. Our server was fabulous. He was very sweet and checked on us enough but not too much. We each had a strawberry marg and they were fabulous. We also split the Cancun salad with chicken and it was delicious. We tried out this restaurant today and the host and server were very nice and excellent service throughout. The restaurant is dated in appearance but clean and all the people that worked there were friendly that we interacted with. They have a dedicated smaller gluten free menu. My husband had the Verde chili enchiladas off their regular menu and I had the chicken quesadilla off the gluten free menu. They both came with a choice of beans and jalapeño rice. I just chose not to have the beans on my plate. They serve chips and salsa, which were good and both of our meals were also good and plentiful and hot. We got seated in a booth for dinner around 6:30pm. The waiter we had was newly hired a few days ago. He was nice and attentive. Their menu was extensive. Almost hard to make your selection. I ordered there combo that came with Enchiladas, tostada and a burrito. The food was okay. There just wasn't any flavor to them and seem bland. We usually go to the one on 151st but saw a review in a group and this one was so cute decided to try it. We went in Monday, had such an amazing dinner that we went back tonight (Tuesday). Our servers both nights were beyond friendly and knowledgeable. I forgot Mondays server name but tonight was Marcos and he was the absolute best! I had the tortilla soup both nights and I just want a gallon of it, the best I have ever had. The toppings added to it overall, and the fresh avocado was so tasty. Really, get it, you won't be the same after. Is getting it 3 days in a row excessive? Hmmmm Taco Tuesday tacos $1 each, ground beef or chicken. The ground beef is well seasoned, and delicious. I've been coming to this place in old Overland Park for years but the service and quality I received this weekend has put an end to that. It's really disappointing when a location like this that used to be really good turns into a poor version of what it used to be. My girlfriend and I stopped in for an "early" dinner about 6pm on a Weds night and I should've known by the low customer count something was up. There were maybe 3-4 other couples at tables and I was hoping for speedy service since they weren't busy but that didn't happen. Our waiter would literally disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. It took about 20 minutes just to get an order of espinaca dip. When it arrived, it came in a "new" fried tortilla bowl, which I'd never seen them do before and that was fine. However, it tasted like they had changed from their white queso cheese to some pre-processed version that wasn't very good. It took another good 15 minutes before our waiter showed up again to take our orders and by that point a large crowd of people had showed up and filled up the place. I was thinking, okay, we got here before the rush so we should get our food pretty quick. Nope. My girlfriend ordered chicken fajitas and when they finally arrived almost 50 minutes after we had arrived, they were absolutely some of the worst fajitas I've ever seen. The cast iron skillet that is usually so hot that the food on it is sizzling was so cold you could touch it directly with no issues. The onions and peppers were nothing but a wet mash sitting in a puddle of oil and water and the "grilled" chicken was cut into huge sections and laid on top. With the whole thing being luke-cold, she chose not to eat any of it. It took us another 15minutes to find our waiter again and by that time, I had finished my meal and we opted to just leave at that point. The manager was understanding and removed the fajitas and the espinaca dip from our bill but that was the least she could do in my opinion. I refuse to accept poor/sub-quality food at a restaurant considering how expensive it is to eat out anymore. I guess from now on I'll be heading to Jalapenos instead. read more

Mi Ranchito has been a blessing for dinner after an evening shift on weekdays and weeknights! One of the few restaurants in Overland Park with their kitchen open until 10p and 11p, the staff has always been courteous and efficient whether we're dining in or ordering our food to-go! Once you sit down at the restaurant, you're served with their classic chips and salsa (also included in to-go order) - I ALWAYS go for their Espinaca Queso though (~$5.99), so good! Easy to reheat if you have it as takeout too. I've had everything from their fajita steak bowl, fajita nachos, shrimp tacos and padre fajitas...can't go wrong with any. If you're coming here though, you MUST try the Padre Fajitas (~$18.99)! There's something about that champagne cheese sauce that has me wanting to come back for more! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu here - I've ordered a variety of plates and know that their consistency is good! Depending on what time you go, parking can be a bit tight but there's usually extra parking across the lot or paralell parking if necessary. I haven't had their desserts in a while because I'm usually always full after my entree, but I will have to be back to check them out! read more

Time after time I struggle to place an order on the phone because of the language barrier of the person taking the order four of the five times that I've struggled it has been with the same girl.. And then when I've picked up my order or I have it delivered through DoorDash, I'm either missing something or I did not get what I ordered. Grabbed dinner at Mi Ranchito with my family on a Friday night. It was fairly busy, as we showed up at 7. We were told we would have a 25 min wait, but a table opened up for us after about 5 minutes! From then forward our service was incredibly slow. We were served chips and salsa, ordered our drinks and some espinaca dip and then we waited a very long time. At one point, I was like wait, we still haven't ordered our food. Margaritas came out first, but my beer took about 5 more minutes to come out. It was warm. Then we finally ordered our food. I like that they will split plates in the kitchen. Food was just ok. I am a fan of the sweet corn mush they serve with all entrees. Portions are large - definitely shareable. This was my first visit to Mi Ranchito. Started with the Espinaca Dip and a Margarita....both were very good. They have a great menu as far as variety and I had lots to choose from for what I tend to like. I chose the La Crema Chnimichanga. It had a very good flavor but I would have liked some kind of sauce or cheese on top...it seemed kind of dry. It was not as crispy as other Chimi's I have had, buy all said, it had a very good flavor. I would definitely go again and try one of the other many selections. read more

This was the WORST restaurant experience I've ever experienced. I think someone spitting in my food would have been a more positive. This place does not believe in service. The waiter was so inattentive that the table next to us suggested that we just leave. We were there for over an hour and our order was never taken. I attempted to pay for my beverage and the staff at the hostess station said " It's not our problem". I gave it another few minutes to get the beverage bill. Staff response was "he's busy." Many other tables were seated after we arrived and got their meals before I even asked about paying for my drink. No other staff came to assist as is commonly done elsewhere. I asked to speak to the manager, all I got was "we have called them ," and a smirk as if the manager was never called. If you want to be treated disrespectfully go here. We are regulars at this location in old OP off Metcalf. We go there a couple of times a week - sometimes with small children. The place is kid-friendly and is generally pretty quick to get us seated. Dips, chips, and Margaritas are great. I'm not an expert in Mexican food, but their shrimp tacos are very good. Of course, the fajitas are always good. Attempted to have a meal out with family. We did get served our margaritas. We attempted several times to stop wait staff to help us but no one would stop. After an hour of waiting to order, we had had enough. We asked for our check to pay for our drinks so we could leave, the host told us that it wasn't her problem. We waited longer for our check to no avail, when we were leaving the hosts told me that our server was too busy. I find that interesting since the essential part of serving food is to serve food. I came in the other night wanting to eat all the chips and salsa without being judged. We had a younger waiter that seemed relatively new, which was fine and not the restaurants fault. We got to sit out on the patio on a nice night and they had cute string lights hung all over. Throughout our dinner, we only received one basket of chips and salsa, even after asking our waiter for more (I was super disappointed.) I tried out the jumbo house Margarita since it was only $7.99 on the rocks and it was quite tasty and it was actually boozy. We ended up ordering the Espinaca chicken enchiladas for our entree but they were too cheesy for me, my partner seemed to love them though. After we received our ticket, we also noticed our total was not correct so that also took a minute to fix. Overall, our experience was fine but definitely not my favorite Mexican in town. Service is always great:) but what you should really know is the food is fantastic! So many Mexican restaurants you go to are shitty Tex-Mex with shitty service. I'm a vegetarian and my favorite thing on their menu are the cheese enchiladas with the roasted vegetables. The vegetables are always perfectly roasted, not soggy perfectly and al dente crisp and amazingly flavorful! The rice is great. The black beans are fantastic and don't forget to order a house margarita! The salsa is always on point. Their cheese dip is also really really yummy! And just to say one more time I've never had bad service at this place. It's small. It's connected to a weird little garage place and I know they have another location on the Kansas side. read more

this location in downtown Overland Park is right in the hub of things! with easy access to multiple parking lots or street parking. The food here is consistently good and gets the orders correct. The servers and employees are friendly and helpful. I love the salsa here, very liquidy and made with cilantro, and if you order takeout, they'll give you some chips and salsa to go! I love that they have piña coladas, you can sit outside at their outdoor seating and enjoy one. My favorite thing to get here is the cream cheese chicken enchiladas with rice. read more

If you're a queso fan, the espinaca dip is lovely with spinach, tomatoes and a little kick. Some of my favorite dishes are the crab enchiladas on Fridays and chimichanga. I also love the fajitas. I have been a regular customer for a number of years to Mi Ranchito and the staff that was there treated you like family. Their food was always very well done, service was prompt and wait staff very attentive. The margaritas were always very well done as well. A lot of the staff that I have come to know over the years have since left and the restaurant is now under new management. Taco salads were sub-par with avocado that showed very visible signs of browning on it. Margaritas were obviously a mix. Barely any alcohol at all for a premium special of the day margarita. Wait staff not empathetic about the issues and no sense of urgency. Very disappointed. Would like to come back but things need to greatly improve with the new management and staff before I do. I do recommend Ylse as a server. She is an absolute sweetheart. Very personable and such a hard, dedicated worker. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. We met our party and sat down. Server took our drink order , the pitcher of margaritas took about 30 minutes to appear. Server did not ask if we would like to place an order he turned around talked to another table and disappeared. We had sightings of him but never reappeared to take our food order after another 30 minutes. We tried to get the another waiters attention or even to pay for our drinks to be told by the hostess this was " not her problem" . After trying to explain we had been waiting for over an hour to place our order and were told " server is busy". Many other patrons came had their orders taken well after we did and were finishing their meal. This is very poorly run restaurant with no customer service. Wow! What a difference a decade makes! We used to visit this location nearly monthly when we lived close by. The servers knew us, we enjoyed the food, etc. etc. Fast forward to today... we were in the area around lunch so decided to stop in based upon our memories of past experiences. We were seated immediately, but it took telling someone (I think the manager) we'd like to order to even be acknowledged. We ordered some queso and that along with salsa were definitely from a jar. They were edible but good is pushing it. Then we ordered our food. During this time, we saw other groups of similar size come in, order, and get their food. One even left after finishing their meal. We finally asked the "manager" again because our server disappeared... five minutes later two people received their food (including a $6 small bowl of kraft mac and cheese). I received my soup and salad ten minutes after that. The salad was completely inedible. No one came to check on us until we asked for our bill. They did remove the salad from our charges because I couldn't eat it, but no apologies whatsoever. There are way too many good places in the area to bother with this one. Don't make the same mistake we did. Time has not been kind to this location. read more

COVID-19 DINING This location is definitely practicing social distancing. I saw a couple of Door Dashers come in and they asked one to wait outside because the order wasn't ready, so they are not allowing too many people inside at once. We dined inside and did not have anyone within two booths between us. I ordered the La Crema Chimichanga and it was so good!
