Full disclosure I came here with a lot of uncertainty. There's a TON of coffee shops in Lawrence and they all aren't created equal. I took a meeting here and the person I was meeting with gave me a few local options. This was the place I hadn't been yet so I thought I'd go a bit out of my comfort zone and try a new spot. Something I was nervous about from the photos on Yelp was if there would be enough inside seating when I arrived for a meeting. When I pulled up, I was still a bit anxious about this as the front lot was full and I had to pull to the back to park. Once I got out of my car and walked through the cafe to the front to order my anxieties about seating had diminished. It's much larger inside than the outside appears and the photos here on Yelp don't really do the indoors justice. Yes, the outdoor seating is really cute and well shaded so I get why folks focus on it, but if you're like me and wanting to get some work done you'll find a comfortable spot here. Now onto the coffee. As I made my way into the shop I noticed one of my art school professors (we both sort of looked at each other like "do I know you?") and I moved on, but that's a good sign. The art teachers usually know where to snag a decent cup of coffee. When I ordered I tried one of their special drinks and chatted with the baristas about it before I made my choice. Extra points here because not only was the drink really, really good, but the girls working were beyond friendly and answered all of my questions. I'm not lying when I say this was one of the best cups of coffee I've had in Lawrence in some time. I wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

Uplift has the BEST breakfast biscuit - crunchy on the outside, tender in the middle, with a real piece of good cheddar, - and I LOVE they have packets of grape jelly on request because that's how I grew up eating breakfast sandwiches. I love the beans they offer - my favorite in town. The homemade seasonal syrups are a MUST - was obsessed with rosemary brown sugar this summer - and the baristas are all kind and accommodating with half-sweet requests. Since I was in Lawrence and needed to find something to do for about 30 min, I stopped at Uplift for a latte. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted immediately. Everyone seemed so happy to work there and happy to help. I ordered a caramel latte (but the creme brulee sounded fantastic too). It was smooth and delicious. 2nd coffee of the day, but definitely the better of the 2. Usually I absolutely love Uplift. Lately I've been obsessed with their vanilla orange iced matcha latte. So of course today I went to the drive thru on 6th to order one. When I got to the window it took a min or two for the girl to notice me. She was on her phone.. which is okay but she didn't wash her hands before starting to make my drink. Then I saw her pull down some cup out of the matcha bin and warm up with whisk with water (totally normal matcha stuff) but then she used the water to put into my matcha and I don't know why that kinda grossed me out. Maybe because it was from the matcha bin cup that's in that bin. Then the worst part was the oat milk I wanted had been sitting out and it wasn't warm but it wasn't frosty cold you know? Maybe I shouldn't watch how the sausage is made you know? But idk it just kinda gave me the yuckies and I didn't wanna drink it. Also just overall tip for Uplift, I think the matcha needs a littttke bit more matcha to milk ratio. It's a bit milk heavy. Also maybe a touch more syrup would be perfect! I'm still gonna go back because I believe in you guys. Beautiful drive thru (to get those ambiance points). But yeah I just would like a little more refined. read more

Don't miss the out of the way coffee shop in Lawrence! Stopped by when I was in town for the day and ordered a cold brew with a splash of oat. Coffee was a perfectly smooth light roast and so excellent that I bought a bag of coffee to go. Uplift brews Cuvee coffee and the beans tasted just as great when I brewed them at home. A wonderful hidden gem in Lawrence! Visiting from seattle I had one coffee destination to hit up while I was out here and I spent the rest of my stay finding other local shops that offered good cups. The second I walked in and smelled the beans I knew this place would be great. They get beans from Cuvée and brew them up well. My americano was smooth and flavorful as was my partners latte. The baristas know what they're doing and we were fortunate enough to meet the owner who was just absolutely lovely. This place is absolutely worth checking out and adding to your list of frequent stops. read more

Conveniently located just a few blocks from the eastern turnpike exit; Uplift is a perfect place to stop on your way into Lawrence or a pitstop if traveling. A buddy and I stopped and met a mutual friend here for a brief visit in the patio area. The shaded area with running water seems remote, but is just a few feet out the backdoor. I ordered an $8 flight of summer iced drinks. Two iced coffee drinks: Kickin' Kansas with hot pepper spice and a sweet Dreamsickle; a strawberry lemonade and a citrus green tea rounded out the flight. A great combination of flavors, but I'd do without the Kickin Kansas next time, spicy coffee is just not my preference. Fun drinks, nice folks, relaxing environment and convenient location. read more

We were in Lawrence one morning and picked this coffee place to check out. Delicious! We got a black coffee, a half-sweet Maple Walnut latte, and a Lemon Raspberry scone. Service was friendly and shop was cute inside. The scone was more of a muffin texture but the flavor was delicious--hint of lemon, whole blueberries, and a light glaze on top. The latte was smooth and delicious--all their syrups are House made! Overall we were impressed and would go back!! read more

North Lawrence hasn't had a grocery store since the Earth's crust cooled. The dining options for years were the 'family-owned' TexMex spots on Locust or 2nd Street. And though I do like me some Slow Ride, the bar options are somewhat tired as well (sorry, OG Johnny's). North Lawrence just hasn't had the pull in recent years. You know what else isn't north of the Kaw? Enough coffee spots. So.... Enter Uplift and, oh my, is it aptly named. The building itself isn't exactly airy or super well-lit, but the ownership is making a welcoming environment with its use of the space. A friendly staff (and on my initial visit, that staff included owner Kelly Huslig) and a nice array of munchables greet you at entry. The menu isn't overwhelming, and it's not sparse, either, which makes decisions much easier and enjoyment even sweeter. The coffee is sourced out of Austin (Cuvée Coffee) and is being done very well. I just sampled the dark roast drip, because, duh, *coffee* place and my hipster teen daughter opted for a sample of their cold brew. She has been so very into cold brew lately and her verdict: BEST cold brew she has had! Whatever made ownership choose Cuvée has been a really solid business decision! Add in a trio of peanut butter protein balls and the word of the day was YUM! There are paninis and baked goods, bottled juices and other beverage options, but if you want coffee, then Uplift is a *must try*! Prices are fair and completely on the level of their value, so you aren't dropping way too much on sugared-up coffee 'drinks' that blow your wallet and your diet simultaneously. And they even make their own syrup (photo'd) and while we did not sample them, just the idea alone is enough to goad me into a return visit. Behold the power of positivity. We passed through town today headed to Baldwin City, and whenever we hit a new town we usually go for a local coffee shop on the way to our destination. Boy, were we glad we stopped here! I ordered a matcha latte (hot, of course. A winter storm's coming!) and their winter vegetable quiche. My husband had a caramel latte and one of their sausage, egg, and cheese croissants. The drinks were delicious and really helped take the edge of this very cold winter morning, and the food was scrumptious. The service was quick and the staff cordial. The ambiance is fairly quiet and peaceful, great for my audio-sensitive kiddo. A fantastic start to our holiday excursion. read more

Just adequate. Barely. The coffee was decent, but they were out of sugar free hazelnut syrup, which was about 50% of the reason we went. Now the banana bread is what saves this from a 1 star. It's amazing. The service was ok. It took a bit to get our food, which was fresh, but flavorless. I tried the salsa and am pottery sure it was pace salsa or something out of a jar. The "hot sauce" tasted fermented. I had the feta spinach scramble, and trust me, I make them better at home. Maybe 3 pieces of spinach and undercooked eggs. My husband had the sausage breakfast burrito and kept putting the horrible salsa on it because otherwise his was dry and hard to eat. Overall, we wish we had saved our money because it was a 20-30 dollar mistake. read more

Such a cool coffee joint! I decided to visit here for a place to work and the staff was very friendly. I got the summer drink flight and my favorite was the citrus green tea and the Orange dreamsicle. The kickin' Kansas was interesting but not something I'd get again because I don't really like spicy coffee. Solid coffee destination with good espresso service, a great house black coffee and best of all, a gorgeous dedicated small patio area under some trees in the back, really nice. Unfortunately on our visit it was raining so we took ours inside. Staff is masked, but as with most restaurant service in town right now, if you're having your coffee and/or baked goods in, you can be unmasked. Uplift has been open for awhile now, I just never made it because I'm just now getting back into the visiting new locations game. What a relief that is, but we all get that. Tasty baked goods as well and the kitchen was humming with preparation on a Saturday morning. Not exactly in my hood but a great location if you're headed to the interstate so I can guess lots of commuters are stopping in, and I've heard they will bring drinks to your call if you call--you might want to verify that fact, but it's what I heard. Lawrence can always use another solid espresso destination and I'm down with this place. Hope to return to try out the gorgeous looking outdoor setup they've put in place. My partner and I were visiting Lawrence, and stopped in for some coffee, since I had read some great reviews on Yelp. I loved that Uplift makes their own syrups, and I had a difficult time deciding what to try. I ended up getting an iced coffee with oat milk and the honey lavender syrup, which was not too potent in the drink. It was a perfect balance! My partner got a Chaider, basically chai with apple juice/cider, and he loved it. I'm not a huge apple cider fan, but it had great spice flavor! We were pleasantly surprised by the outdoor garden seating. It was so quaint. I loved the babbling brook with the little gnome houses next to it and the little free library! I wish I lived near Uplift, since I would go all the time! read more

I've been here a few times and it's a nice place for coffee. I honestly prefer the coffee from Alchemy, but it's still pretty good. The outdoor seating behind the shop is beautiful and the water feature makes it perfect spot to sit and chat. On my first visit we got a slice of lemon blueberry cake and it was a tad dry and only had one blueberry in it. On our last trip we were sipping coffee outside at one of the tables and after about 15 minutes an employee came over and politely asked us if we could move due to a private event for Baker. We went inside to sit for awhile and another employee came over and offered us an apple cinnamon pound cake for the trouble. read more

If you have not been here then STOP what you're doing and go get the best coffee in town, I will honestly say after you experience the Uplift you won't ever go back to Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts EVER! You walk in (with a mask of course, safety first!) and are immediately welcomed by a beautiful family that's hard at work but they were still happy to share their story! I have been to 25 states in my VanLife adventure and I've NEVER found such a hidden gem before and the best thing was the coffee was OUTRAGEOUSLY GREAT! I can't wait to get back into town so I can stop back by to try more!! The food was amazing! So fresh and flavorful. We walked in with a big group and our entrees included the Sweet Potato & Tomato wrap, chicken and brie panini, chicken and Brie quesadilla and the pumpkin roll. We sampled the coffees, lattes, and the apple chai drink. All were so good! It was a cute shop and we really enjoyed sitting in the cute garden patio under the heaters. The ladies were so pleasant and patient with this group of 12 when we rolled in. Definitely worth the road trip! Highly recommend this spot for the service, food and beverage selection! read more
