I been trying to dine at Pramil since a conversation years ago at Aux Enfants Gates in the 14th about small, chef owned, non-touristy restaurants. Primal is an odd restaurant. Chef owned by Alain Pramil, he is present and accounted for during your entire meal. He never touches a pan in the kitchen. Chef Pramil greets you seats you, and engages you. He's a nice guy, and accommodated me when I refused to dine in the back room. Pramil is touted as a small, intimate restaurant. It isn't small or intimate in reality. There are two dining rooms, one up front, one in the back, divided by a service station and the bathroom. Pramil's space is long, narrow and very odd. Food is classic and very good. My Foie Gras de Canard appetizer was silky smooth and quite delicious. As a main, the onglet de veau did not have a refined presentation, but it tasted good. Tagliatelle with truffles was a healthy portion, but while I found it savory, my spouse found it bland. Desserts were good. I splurged on a bottle of Condrieu my preferred white. This 2016 Invitare by Chapoutier, lacked depth and that hint of apricot I love so much. Yet, it has high ratings by people who know more than me. Thus, I may have needed an older vintage. Our set menu of appetizer, entree, and dessert, without the wine, was a prescribed price of 33 Euros per person. Thus, one can dine very reasonably at Pramil. Our lack of enthusiasm may come from all the amazing meals we experienced in Paris by creative and innovative chefs. Unfortunately, I am spoiled, so accept my review within this context. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. On our last trip to Paris, this was one of the locations we were super excited to try. Made reservations ahead of time and tried not to spoil our appetite before. It was pricey here for what I received and the food was not tastey. Not sure if it was my American tongue or what, but this was one of my biggest regrets. The location was adorable, the front of the store. However it is located in a narrow street way. A bit shady. The salad with shrimp was gross and only came with 4 pieces of shrimp. Asparagus soup, gave a chance. Nope. My main course was the Scallops + Morell mushroom pasta, it was just ok. A bit overly seasoned, the mushrooms were fine. But the scallops tasted a bit over cooked. Ended the meal with chocolate ice cream and passion fruit. The staff wasn't overly welcoming but there were a few times where i was left parched. The setting arrangements were a bit awkward too. We sat in the front part of the restaurant and there was a further back part where everyone else sat. read more

Pramil is such a cute little restaurant, but the food and the service didn't stack up. I had reservations for 4 people. Upon entering we were approached and seated promptly. We were given menus and our server gave us the rundown on their specials for the night. So far so good, but after he walks to toward the kitchen with our drink orders he stops to exchange some words with another gentlemen. Idk if that man was the owner, but they looked back at our table and shared a laugh. Super unsettling, right? I looked past that because I was here for the food. The four of us chose to do the prefixed menu. For the most part we got a mix of what was offered, but I can't really recall everything we tried. It was all pretty forgettable. Not to mention, we felt uncomfortable the whole time. The two men that switched back and forth waiting on us kept a close eye on our table. They were staring at us the whole time. I make no exaggerations saying this. They would walk away for a minute and then return to stare at us from the register area. SO WEIRD. SO UNCOMFORTABLE. On top of the fact that the food was subpar, service was not cutting it. We tried to get out of there real quick. We were definitely not welcomed. read more

The restaurant ambiance is lovely and the staff is efficient and while my main course, truffle tagliatelle, was really delicious, there were other areas that fell a bit flat. The restaurant offers a fixed menu and you can have two or three items. I'm vegetarian/vegan and the only option for a starter was a cauliflower cake/loaf that was really uneventful. It was not warm and really had no character. While the main I had was really delicious, the only veggie option was a pasta dish with no veggies in it except for some truffles and I had to pay €5 euro on top. It's slightly absurd that the vegetarian pays extra and has the least amount of vegetables. I would definitely come back for another try if there are adjustments to the menu, I saw the food and veggies others were eating and had major entree envy. read more

A fan favorite for a Sunday meal in Paris. It's a very cute restaurant with excellent food and attentive and very friendly waiting staff. The menu is easy to understand as it is in both French and English. I got the cauliflower bread, sea scallops in a creme sauce, and mango and jasmine dessert which were all very delicious and filling. My husband had the smoked salmon salad, rabbit, and chocolate cake, and enjoyed them all. Great overall dining experience from the service to the food. read more

For a 3 course prix fixe menu at 33€, you can't beat it. Especially for a 28 point rating on Zagat it is even more amazing. Small intimate restaurant with a tiny kitchen to match. The chef serves and waits the tables too! Small operation...better come while it is small and intimate setting. Came at 730pm. The peak traffic comes in around 815pm. I had the foie gras with eel starter, rabbit main, and strawberries with sorbet. All excellent. Wine is decently priced too. Definitely recommend it. Bring a pair of slacks and collar shirt to fit in - business casual. No cut offs! read more

We found this fantastic restaurant by taking a walk in the evening. Our hotel was a couple blocks away and this restaurant looked perfect. We had the front desk call for reservation and arrived before our scheduled reservation. We were seated at a very nice table and the restaurant is small, very inmate, cozy, and incredibly full of Parisian charm. We are a table of 4 and each ordered the price fix dinner menu at $33 euros. We had the most incredible meal and every course was beyond believe. Our meal included an appetizer, entree and dessert, what a deal The wait staff and the chef were wonderful It was an extreme pleasure to have the chef in the dining room and he was able to answer any questions we had and tell us about the meal. This place is delicious, homey, and a great value. It's a gem in a very cute neighborhood. If you arrive too early, perhaps grab a glass of wine at the Spanish bar nearby. The cheery chef comes out and greets the guests. It's a tiny place, and you'd never expect to see such gourmet cuisine. The foie gras was simple and excellent, and they managed to make very memorable salads. We took a little food adventure when we were here and tried the pig's ear. Better than expected, though not exactly my taste. Gluten-free notes: It was very easy to find a lot of gluten-free dishes to eat here, even a fruit/nut nougat. The kitchen staff was very happy to verify what did and didn't have flour in it. read more

Simply the best. Or at least, among very good company in the city of light. I've been time and again over the past two years, and it's never failed to impress. From the salade de ficoïde glacial, to the incredible scallops with thinly sliced potatoes, mushrooms, and cream, right to a recent glace au chocolat noir replete with piment d'espelette and finished with fresh passion fruit. (Three things that, you should know, are the key to my heart: dark chocolate, piment d'espelette and passion fruit. Need I say more?!) Other tasty encounters with the plats principals include the rabbit--in the winter I've had it with prunes, now it's a more summery affair--the pork, the filet de bar (seabass) and the riz de veau. At the outset, it's hard to pass up the cauliflower cake (so tasty!) and the potage with foie gras ice cream at the center, is nothing if not, well, decadent. And quite right! To top it all off, there's a seasonal millefeuille, which most recently included fresh blueberries (myrtilles), the aforementioned ice cream, and fresh seasonal strawberries with a cucumber sorbet. The wine list is well-chosen and aptly priced, the service really couldn't be better, and the friendliest chef I've ever seen checks in on his tables a few times during the meal, chatting with his guests in at least two languages. Truly, the only bad part is when the meal ends. But then, there's always next time. read more

Very cute little place, tiny, cozy and incredible food! I had the specials for appetizer, entree and dessert. The beef ham in parmesan sauce with asparagus was incredible, little thin slices of beef in a rich parmesan sauce. The only thing i can say is give more beef! The slice was tiny but delicious. Entree was the truffle pasta, i have never seen sucha. Generous portion of shaves truffle and it was one of the best pasta dishes i have ever had without being overly rich. I recommend for dessert anything they do with chocolate as well. For the price and ambiance i highky recommend this place!! read more

My husband and I were staying in the Marais Nord during our Paris trip this past May and were looking for some local restaurant options. We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant in Marais Nord area when were looking for restaurant recs online. We were able to get reservations via e-mail within a week before our trip to Paris and were happy to have found this great little restaurant. The decor was clean and basic so not to steal the show from the delicious dishes that came from the kitchen. The whole restaurant was only 2 rooms (front and back) and probably had only 10 to 15 tables. Perfect for intimate Paris date nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our service and experience at this restaurant. The service gave great recommendations and was very friendly towards our minimal French-speaking selves (my husband is pretty good, but I just smile and nod trying to recognize the few French words I know). We were given excellent wine pairing suggestions based on our dishes. It's especially helpful when one looks at a French wine list and gets lost. We had an excellent wine pick(La Clape 2012 a red from the Mediterranean)! The dishes here are simple and rustic. But, do not let the simple appearance fool you. The flavors were divine! The dishes focused on what the French chef's do best: seasonal, fresh ingredients. We had foie gras with smoked eel, summer squash blossoms, rabbit stew, veal with mashed potatoes that were out of this world. We were able to finish strong with our favorite French dessert: a glorious cheese plate that featured many amazingly good regional choices from the gooey triple creams to the nutty, sweet semi-soft cheese. After our meal, we were greeted by the chef/owner himself and we were able to talk about the dishes with him--that was neat! The whole restaurant had a friendly vibe, a romantic atmosphere, reasonable prices, and great food. What a great local place! read more

This place is a gem. As other reviews indicate, the quality of the food here is by far and away among the very best. Words do not do justice to the experience you will have, so let me just cut right to the chase and tell you what we ordered: -Sea bass fillet with eggplant and Kalamata olives (Filet de bar avec aubergine et olives de Kalamata): simply excellent. The meat was tender and very flavorful. I did not particularly like eggplants generally, but they did not spoil the dish at all. -Smoked salmon salad was devine. The chef achieved to balance both sweet and smokey in preparing the salmon as the sweetness in the salmon did not overtake the smokiness of the salmon. -Warmed farm cheese with truffle over spring lettuce (the night's special) was crazy good. The cheese was warm and creamy but not runny. It was an intense taste of saltiness (but not in a bad way) and the lettuce was slightly bitter, which somehow balanced our the saltiness and the creaminess of the cheese. -My friend got the scallops plate and he just loved them. The interior is rustic and simple: sand colored wood beams, stone, and warm lighting. We were a party of five and we were seated at a large table in the corner, this was fortunate for us as many of the other tables are placed extremely close together. They offer a prix fixe option, or you can order your entree (appetizers), main course, and dessert à la carte. The five of us decided to go with the prix fix menu as so many of the items looked appealing to us. I chose the cauliflower cake for my entree, the sea bass with eggplants for my main course, and the cucumber sorbet and strawberries for my dessert. We also ordered a bottle of red wine for the table and it was excellent, but I can't remember the name. However, I'm confident that most, if not all of the wines offered are great. They provide a basket of delicious pain au levain, for which I was quite grateful for after our waiter brought me the wrong entree of liver pate floating on top of soup. While waiting for the correct entree, I tried my partner's smoked salmon salad and it was very good: the salmon was fresh, dressing was light, with just a touch of sweetness, and salmon roe was mixed in the salad, adding a nice burst of flavor. When my cauliflower arrived, at first I was a little disappointed because it didn't look good and it reminded me of a dried out dessert cake, but after I tried it I loved it and it was worth the long wait! There's a pepper chili jam served alongside and it compliments the cake very well. I enjoyed every bite. When the main courses were served we were alll a little bit surprised at the lack of presentation; the meat and sides were placed on the plate and that was about it. My plate was was the only one that had a touch of color because there were tomatoes on the baby eggplant. My dish was good, but it was very simple and it lacked a certain something that I expect when I dine in supposedly great restaurants in Paris. Everyone felt the same way about their dishes. The desserts were prepared with a bit more care and my cucumber sorbet was very good and unique. The strawberries were also very fresh and delicious! Pramil To begin, I was looking forward to the foie gras with eel ( supplement 5 euro.) The presentation (without any toast. Yikes)) was simply a slab on a plate. Has all the parsley in paris disappeared? Lamb liver with zucchini flowers had a nice sauce but was not much different than beef liver and so a rather odd entrée. Sea bass with eggplant was not the fabulous dish it was a month ago (which was why one of us was eager to return). The eggplant side was arranged it like a small moussaka and was not as tasty as earlier and the fish was an inferior piece. The Pork chop was not à point or rosé as they suggested but was not dried out either so they do get points for that. The side of 'many types of carrots' was a bunch of assorted colored carrots which once you cook them with a half an onion (included) taste all the same. A sprinkle of parsley, chive, chervil, coriander, rosemary or whatever green you like would have perked up the color scheme. The chef is supposed to be a former physics teacher so I suppose artful presentation could not be presumed to be a particular talent. . One of us ordered what turned out to be a bizarre dessert of chocolate ice cream mixed with not so much of the piment d'espelette as advertised as regular black pepper along with flesh of lemon separated into its cells and some sweet crunchy material (hard candy bits?) The hard sugar and the very sour lemon did not have a lot to say to each other or to the chocolate ice cream. The chef came out and spoke to each table-a behavior which has thrilled some reviewers but did not divert from the mediocre cooking. An unpleasant and unfortunate part of the meal was the odor of disinfectant that floated through the restaurant whenever anyone used the restrooms. read more

Pramil was hands down, the best French cuisine experience we've had to date! We found Pramil through the Michelin Guide 2016. It's located in the 3rd Arr, a 5-minute uber ride from our AirBnb in the 9th Arr. €33 for a 3-course meal including taxes and gratuities? An almost perfect rating on Yelp and Trip Advisor? We just HAD TO make a reservation! And good thing that we did because the restaurant is quite small and while we're in there, they had to decline some walk-ins because they're fully booked for the night (we were there on a Wednesday). Upon arrival, we're greeted by one of the staff. We were given an English menu (very helpful!) and he explained to us the specials of the night carefully. When we made the reservation via email, we mentioned that we're in Paris for our honeymoon. Chef Alain Pramil came to our table to greet us and congratulate us on our recent nuptial. It was a very nice gesture and very much appreciated. It really showed that all staff, including the head chef, care about their customers! Now on to the food... ORGASMIC! For appetizer, I had the pumpkin soup with foie gras ice cream. Never thought of eating a hot soup with a savoury ice cream - but it was a match made in heaven. So delicious, so creamy, so fulfilling. Bravo! For the entree, I had the scallops and somen noodles in cream sauce (it's a fusion take on pasta) and if the appetizer knocked it out of the park, the entree took the ball out of this world! The somen noodles were much lighter and easier to eat than your regular pasta noodles. The scallops were big and in generous amount (I counted 10 pieces!) The cream sauce were divine. I slurped and slurped and slurped until the plate was completely clean. For the dessert, I had the Mille-feuille with jasmine whipped cream and blueberries. The pastry was crunchy and light, the whipped cream was very fragrant and the blueberries were refreshing. It was a great end to a great meal. From the moment we entered the restaurant until the second we stepped out of the door, we're very pleased with our experience at Pramil. Thank you Chef Alain and staff for giving us the best meal we've had in our lives. We'll for sure go back the next time we visit Paris again! :) read more

Elegant bistro in the heart of the 3rd. You need a reservation so call or drop in to put your name on the list for a great french meal. The staff and owner make you feel like you have been welcomed into their house to share dinner with and you come away a couple hours later with a smile on your face talking about how you were lucky to eat there. Not only is there a great menu with sweetbreads, foie and rabbit (only to name a few selections), but they have a great wine list too in which to choose from. One of the best meals we had in Paris during our stay and it is a must eat for anyone in the city. read more

Fantastic food at reasonable prices (I had the fixed-price dinner menu) set in a warm welcoming chic narrow dining room. I had the salade de ficoide glacial with grilled shrimp and roasted tomatoes; sea scallops with cepes mushrooms and Pompadour potatoes; and dark chocolate ice-cream with Espelette pepper and passionfruit glaze. This was by far the best meal I had in Paris, maybe even in my life. I'm a self proclaimed foodie, love to try new things and this place was perfect for my experimenting palate. Lovely little bistro with excellent food, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. Great choice in the area for seasonal food cooked with care. My husband started with a delicious pumpkin soup with foie gras "ice cream." I had the special starter of the day - fresh green beans and anchovies serve with fresh radish - delicious. We shared a lamb leg (special of the evening meant for 2) served with fried baby potatoes. The meat was tender and beautifully cooked. Good selection of wines and they were helpful with recommendations. Definitely worth trying. read more

Appetizer's shrimp had shell left on it, baked tomatoes were hard to cut; entree du jour lamb was dry and rubbery, spring peas and carrots were a melange of under and overcooked in a tasteless broth; my cocktail arrived in a sticky glass. Dessert was interesting but fruit was unripe. All of this is a mystery given earlier reviews, and certainly not what I would expect in Paris. In America this would be normal, in France no. I first went to Pramil in November 2010 on a vacation to Paris, and I've been dreaming about it ever since then. The truffle pasta was probably the single best pasta dish I've had in my life and the owner seemed incredibly passionate about his food. Pramil has a hidden gem quality, down a quiet back street, and the atmosphere matches the food. So this past May when I visited Paris again I had to visit and it was even better than I remembered. The same pasta dish was running as a special and each of the other dishes I tried matched the amazingness level. This so far has been my best experience in Paris as I'm still a newbie tourist. Everyone speaks English and the boss is super cool. We felt a very warm and personal welcome. I ate here twice in a 3 day period. Will definitely recommend and come back any chance I get. Every dish was great but my favorite was the pasta with truffle and the noodle with scallops. We also had the evening's special starter (which was a warmed farm cheese with truffles over spring lettuce)....rich and delicious. Brick walls and timbered ceiling, but all painted white, which delivered a serene, yet warm environment. Small, on quiet street, had delicious starters: lamb liver was perfectly cooked & ice plant salad an unusual & surprising favorite with a friend, salmon also tasty. Sweetbreads very delicate & delicious, friends liked rabbit too. Brown bread was good, but too hearty and strong an individual taste to use for dunking in the delicious ris de veau sauce, a bit sad about that.... Major disappointment was their Mille feuille, which was like a whipped cream club sandwich with long saltines (and a few marrons glacées dotted about). This was the second dreadful Mille Feuille I've had in Paris this trip. Clearly some new trend--please make it stop! I can't believe anyone would taste it and think it an acceptable dessert anywhere, much less in Paris. Really, it would lose significantly to an icebox cake. Had no other desserts, so can't comment. They did not seem able to deliver a latte, though espresso was available (?) so had one with milk on the side. We had a great time here, the prix fix menu is excellent. We had the special of the day for the appetizer (think it was some sort of vegetable and cheese) and the smoked salmon, both were good. Then the boneless rabbit with artichokes and olives, which was interesting and I am glad I tried it - it was good, but I think I realized that rabbit is a little overrated (after trying it several times, I can confidently say that rabbit seems to be tougher than chicken) and wife had the fish, which was also good. What a gem in this neighborhood! It think it is listed in the Micheline guide 2013. The food are delicious, and well presented.
