We had a wonderful meal here. Not inexpensive but everything was top notch including the service. The cheese board between the entree and dessert was a nice touch. Excellent wines. Great small French bistro vibe.

    Chalkboard menu on our table!

This is the Parisian bistro experience I was looking for and it was absolutely perfect. Our hotel made our booking and when we walked in a bit late, the maitre'd happily greeted us and seated us at our cozy saved table, complete with its own chalkboard menu. Our waitress was so friendly and pleasant and we settled into a couple of kirs while enjoying Madeleine Peyroux (she's one of my faves!). I ordered poached eggs over winter root vegetables and the braised beef cheeks. Those eggs... wow. They were the best I've ever had in my entire life and the mushrooms and root vegetables paired with them were just heavenly. It was a true "balanced" Parisian dish that I hope to replicate some day, but I doubt I can. Those eggs had the most yellow yolk - absolutely gorgeous. I loved that the braised beef cheeks came to me tableside in their coquette. They came with romaine leaves, potatoes, and pearl onions. It wasn't the best beef bourguignon that I've ever had (Bouchon in Vegas gets that's honor!), but it was so good and homey, and after a few days of sublimely rich meals, it was just what I wanted. Hubby had pigeon, which was delish! The maitre'd helped us select a red wine that went perfectly with our mains. Ask for help - they're so friendly here! We did go for the cheese, and a selection of their "greatest hits" were provided to us. Yum yum yum. Finally, I setlled on the lemon tart for dessert. Absolute perfection. I'm still thinking of it now. From start to finish, this was the perfect Parisian bistro experience. The service was friendly and stellar, the ambience was cozy (think small spot, cafe curtains, small tables, Madeleine Peyroux/Frank Sinatra playing), and the food excellent but not over-the-top. I will forever think about it when I think about dining in Paris and I hope I get to return some day! I will note that I had instant order envy when I saw a filet mignon with a beautiful sliver of foie gras pass my table. OMG, I'm still kicking myself for not getting it! Oh well, just another reason to return to Paris!

We ended up in here based on a recommendation.. we actually came for the cheese platter. Just ok

The foie gras is excellent! Best I had in Paris!

A neat restaurant in a fun part of Paris. Service was beyond excellent. Incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our party of two came in with no reservation, they asked us to come back in an hour (which was perfectly fine) and when we did we had a nice little table on the sidewalk (what we preferred). I'd say my only reason to not give a perfect five star review is that the menu didn't have a tremendous amount of items that I was just dying to try, however what I did have was very, very good. The foie gras in particular was the best I had while in Paris, you must try it! And yes, you've never seen a cheese plate like what is offered!

Reserved for lunch two weeks in advance, our party of three was seated immediately upon arrival. It was somewhat empty, but I prefer restaurants that aren't crowded or overly loud, especially for lunch. Since we were crunched for time, we opted to order our main courses right away. I have learned that the meal of the day is usually the way to go, and was presented with a fragrant plate of pork belly topped with a mustard sauce and sauteed greens, accompanied by pureed eggplant. Upon recommendation by the waitress, I ordered a glass of Chenin, which paired absolutely beautifully with the pork belly. I truly regret not ordering the famous cheese plate, but oh well, there is always next time. It was a flavorful, memorable and authentic french cuisine experience, and I will definitely return.

****Astier's MOP (Meal in One Pic)**** http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#HQHBYbcEbtTk_O5zs3b3Gw ***************************************** 4.5 stars. Close-by to the Trendy bars and restaurants of Oberkampf , Astier presents Traditional French dishes, and desserts extremely well executed. 33 euros Appetizer-Main-Dessert 39 euros Appetizer-Main-Cheese Platter-Dessert The menu changes frequently and features classics from every region of France. Make sure to have a reservation as the place is crowded. Every dish has its dedicated sauce that complements so well the protein on the plate. It is comforting and satisfying. All the dishes emanates warmth, and coziness. The portions are generous. The cheese platter is massive. It has over 12 entire cheeses ( not tiny pieces like you see in LA). There is One platter for the entire restaurant and it is place on your table, Yes ON your table for as long as you want when it is cheese course time ( which is Before dessert time). It is really traditional to have the platter passing around the table as it is exactly what is done in French homes. We tried: Bisque Soup with crab meat http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#LDaEhlr8ylr0p-LVsRnqMg Simple seafood broth with a small mound of fresh and cold white crab mea in the middle. The soup was full of flavor but not too fishy. Great small portion for an appetizer. Oeuf Mollet and Pork Belly. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#jK9mg2mN8iqE00AGAVbctQ Oeuf Mollet is a slow cooked egg. The yolk is a little bit more cooked than a poached egg but is still running. The white is firmer as the egg is cooked in the shell. This egg was also poached in red wine, and topped caramelized onions and pork belly. It is basically a Umami combo without cheese. The creamy egg running on the sweet onions and tender pork infused in red wine melts in your mouth. An unctuous way to start the meal. Veal Risotto and endives http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#pJF6kTxcw32T7KRk3LRMKQ Barley risotto with caramelized endives and veal cooked to a beautiful pink color. It has parsnips, potatoes, leeks, carrots, tomatoes, onions in a beef and vegetables broth. The meat was tender and tasty. All the veggies were packed with the flavors from the broth. A good dish. Rabbit http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#MifG_2j6js-2RKYTsyUmjw Delicious. Served with carrots and cabbages, the rabbit was soft and juicy. The sauce was wonderful and every bite was pure joy. The seasoning was perfect. Pets de Nonne http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#UWs0teB_ERnTzUrjVc5IaQ A classic done well. This dessert's name translates into nun's farts. It is appropriate as it is small donut balls made with Pate a Choux on custard with hot chocolate ( from a tiny pot) poured over. A delicous and really sweet dessert. The dough was perfectly fried, and was still soft to the palate. Red Wine Pear Tart http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#D1b40guYhLchM3X0iIjpNQ A good pear tart. Great dessert. Chocolate and griottes http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#FT16X4R9jDgse83068QP8Q Griottes are cherries in alcohol. This chocolate cake features them on top and inside. The quality of the chocolate was good and was not too sweet. The texture of the cake was great. Double MOP for this place with a dessert MOP. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/restaurant-astier-paris?select=ImdGRgxSdFBLT_kIBKUiqA#lDr1pXOU75er2vmFigQc7w Disclaimer: This place is great and I would like to avoid sending them the " wrong customers" .Most of the items on the menu are icons of French cuisine. Most of the words on the menu will be foreign. Don't think a dictionary will help you. If you are on a special diet or not an adventurous eater please avoid bothering the staff by coming and making their work more difficult. If you do not eat Rabbit, Veal, Lamb, Foie Gras, etc, it is not your place. The tables are also extremely close to each other. There is really no room for movement. Claustrophobic please avoid. If you can cope with all the above you will experience one of the best meal you can get in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

The worst part was the bread in the soup. It tasted stale which ruin the flavor of the soup. I had to finish without the bread. Escargot - Another disappointment. What made escargots special was the garlic butter and herb. Here, there were the herbs, no garlic, and French is famous with their butter but I taste oil but not buttery. Other places I actually get excited dipping the bread into the garlic butter but not here. Pan seared Foie gras - The quality of Foie Gras was definitely there. It's not as well seared as I hope but they managed to cook it through without overcooking it. The size of Foie Gras is kind of scary, it's like a small piece of rib eye steak. With just the onion soup and Foie Gras, I could barely swallow anything. Generous portion.

We headed to Chez Janou, a Paris institution. I hadn't been in years, but my son insisted we go back because, according to him, they have the best chocolate mousse in Paris. Judging by the lineup, half the city; and every tourist with an Instagram account showed up. Thankfully we had a 2pm reso. Here's the thing, though. Everyone talks about the mousse, but the food deserves just as much attention. I'd also forgotten how much I love the 3rd arrondissement. Wander a few minutes from the restaurant and you'll find beautiful art galleries, a gorgeous little park, and some of the best boutique shopping in Paris. It's one of those neighbourhoods where you accidentally walk 15,000 steps without realizing it. Now, here's your game plan. Start with the escargots or the gambas to share. For your main, order the farci provençal or the foie de veau. The farci is like a French version of a stuffed pepper: yummy comfort food with a southern coast twist. As for the foie de veau... I actually ordered it by mistake. I thought I was getting regular veal. Out came veal liver. Best mistake of the day. I love liver. My mom makes an incredible liver and onions, so I'm a tough judge. This was outstanding. Rich, buttery, perfectly cooked and perfectly salted. It was so good I immediately texted my mom and told her she's coming here the next time she's in Paris. Drum roll, please... The chocolate mousse. Was it worth all the hype? Yep. There are no fancy swirls or little artistic desserts here. A server simply walks over carrying what looks like a white industrial-sized bowl of chocolate mousse and casually drops a mountain of it onto your plate. Everyone grabs a spoon and starts digging in. It's wonderfully French. Simple. Unpretentious. Ridiculously good. So yes, Chez Janou lives up to the hype. But don't just come for the mousse. Come for the lunch, stay for the neighbourhood, and spend the afternoon getting happily lost in one of the best corners of Paris. That's a Friday well spent.

When he brought us food or drinks he nearly dropped it on the table and quickly sped off. Some other servers seemed nice to other guests, so maybe we got one on a bad day but still we felt really upset and uncomfortable with how we were treated, there is no reason for anyone in the service industry to be so rude especially when we were being so polite. You also get blocked into your seat, and are very close to other guests which is fine but you have to call the waiter to pull your table back out to get up or to go to your seat- to which they begrudgingly do so. The beef bourguignon was tasty, but we did not like how both my and my friend's order were brought in the same pot. This resulted in us having maybe 3 tiny potatoes each and not near as much meat as we hoped for. We were expecting to each have our own dish. This was certainly not worth the 36€ per person price point (nearly $80 USD for the one pot of food), and we left the restaurant still hungry and extremely upset and disappointed by the service. Overall I would not return or recommend.

I made one and did not receive a confirmation email so there must have been a glitch in the system and it did not go through. However, we put our name down on a Saturday evening and only had to wait 20 minutes. The place is very small and charming- we set less than a foot away from another couple which made the experience more fun. We were greeted by a great server and he accommodated to our language- we ordered a glass of champagne and a beer then 6 escargot to start. It was fun diving into the culture as well as delicious. The meals were perfect size for us and had so much flavor! We dipped the potatoes from the beef with the ravioli cheese and it was the most delicious combination. I get the buzz about this place, we had such a lovely time as a traveling couple and would go again for the whole meal anymore!

I wanted to taste authentic French Onion soup before leaving this beautiful country and we could not have selected a better place. The soup was, of course, the most delicious onion soup I have ever tasted and the duck breast and green beans which followed were equally amazing. My husband ordered the egg and duck confit appetizer which we were initially puzzled as to what to expect but it was DELISH! As was the duck Shepherd's Pie! To top off the wonderful food was the friendly, gracious service through which it was provided. These two gentleman made our final evening the best. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

These smaller bistro type eateries are the lifeblood of the local cuisine. They consistently offer reasonably priced dishes that are full of flavor and technique. The wine and drink options are well catered to the menu and they provide options for most price points. The service we experienced was exactly what you want... our server had plenty of suggestions based on the offerings of the day. The service was attentive and responsive... not much more than you could ask for. I had the duck breast being offered... it was served alongside crispy potatoes, green beans, and a salad. Adding in the onion soup and a glass of wine... it quickly became a King's dinner at a very reasonable price. I would be more than happy to eat here again and look forward to exploring the rest of the menu offering many local and classic French options.
