The mussels were the standout dish of the night because they're huge, tender and served in an incredibly flavorful green garlic hyssop nage that I couldn't stop dipping into. Easily my favorite! The whey-braised boudin blanc paired perfectly with the baby leeks, mustard greens, and Sonora berry herb pesto. Everything worked together beautifully. The flatbread with herb Boursin, shaved spring vegetables, mustard frill, scallion, and dill felt like a fresh, healthy take on pizza light but still satisfying. The green lasagna with chard, kale, spinach, ricotta, and béarnaise parmesan custard was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. A great vegetarian dish that didn't feel like an afterthought. If you're looking for one of the best meals in Denver, Potager is it. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and you can really feel their farm-to-table approach--they source from local Colorado farmers and build the menu around what's in season. We had several dishes featuring radish, which felt surprisingly innovative, and everything was genuinely delicious. The wine list is huge and well curated, and the service is fantastic from start to finish. It can get a little loud inside, but that's part of the charm--it has such a warm, lively energy. It makes me so happy places like this exist. It truly feels like a neighborhood gem. I love Potager. I haven't been in at least 15 years, which feels mildly criminal. We planned this as a birthday dinner for three of us with March/April birthdays. I knew reservations open 30 days out, so yes, I literally set a calendar reminder and texted right on time to lock in a Friday night table for five. Morning of, plans shifted and we needed to drop to four. I texted them and they handled it immediately. Easy, kind, no friction. I arrived on time, my group was running a bit late, and I was definitely more stressed about that than necessary. They were not. They let me hang at the bar, made it feel completely normal, and were just genuinely welcoming from the start. The food was incredible. We had the radish pasta, grilled oyster mushrooms with shawarma spices and berbere aioli, spinach spaetzle with ricotta and pickled vegetables, the kale Caesar flatbread with tuna and parmesan, linguine with green garlic and fried shallots, plus two specials. One was a lamb sausage dish, the other was seared scallops. For dessert, the dirt cup and the pistachio cake. We had a vegetarian (pescatarian) in the group and Potager makes that easy. Plenty of options, no awkward substitutions. Everything hit. The only split opinion was the flatbread. Two of us loved it. Two of us thought it leaned a little fishy. In fairness, it has tuna, so... The scallops special was the standout for me personally. Easily my favorite dish of the night! The dirt cup unlocked childhood nostalgia, but like a much fancier version of it. Like the dirt cup I would have made if I had a job in second grade. Service is where Potager really stands out. Warm, patient, and genuinely helpful. TL;DR: Great ingredients, poor management. A tough, inedible steak and a defensive manager turned a $35 issue into the loss of a loyal customer. Respect matters. There's a lot to admire about Potager: a longtime Denver star in Capitol Hill with a reputation for sourcing high-quality, sustainable ingredients from trusted purveyors. Unfortunately, none of that could outweigh the experience I had on my most recent visit on 7/25/25, when I was treated with dismissiveness and defensiveness by the front-of-house manager and owner. It was disappointing, and frankly, disrespectful. Here's what happened: My wife and I ordered the flatiron steak, which turned out to be nearly inedible; it was chewy, full of gristle, and impossible to cut. We informed our server, who was friendly but new to Potager, and he cleared the plate. We had shared the dish and eaten two small pieces each and one of mine was even left on a side plate. That detail matters, because the manager later used the fact that "half was eaten" to dismiss our complaint, without ever examining the dish or checking in with us directly. No replacement was offered. No alternatives suggested. We did go on to order dessert, the Eton mess, which was fantastic. But when the check arrived, the steak was still on the bill. That was surprising. In nearly every restaurant I've been to, when a guest raises a legitimate issue with a dish, a manager stops by, offers an apology, and removes the item. Here, none of that happened. After paying the check, I asked to speak with the manager. I was kept waiting. When the server came back to explain that they were short-staffed and she was helping out, it only made things worse. He should have been supporting his teammates, and the manager should have made time to speak with me directly. When she finally did, the conversation was even more disappointing than the delay. Instead of listening, she deflected. Instead of acknowledging the issue, she defended the decision to leave the charge on the bill, saying, "We're the only restaurant in Denver serving this cut at this price point." If the logic is that lower price justifies lower quality, that's a serious misstep, especially for a restaurant that prides itself on quality. I've always appreciated Potager's rotating soufflés and commitment to fresh, local ingredients. But a $35 decision not to comp a subpar dish just cost the restaurant a long-time guest and recommended Potager often. It's sad to say goodbye on these terms. But when guest feedback is dismissed, and respect is lacking, it leaves little choice. I hope this serves as a moment of reflection for both the management and the team on how to better honor the guest experience going forward. read more

Potager was at best a slightly better watercourse for more than double the price. Several bites (throughout the meal) had the grit of vegetables that were not thoroughly washed. The desserts were really weak. Just a really expensive and mediocre meal. Service was fine and I have no complaints about the staff. The food itself was disappointing, as were the portion sizes of the main dishes. The way people talk about this place on reddit and in other reviews would lead you to believe this place is incredible but I'm half convinced it's all astroturfing and paid reviews. I won't be back. A foodie friend recommended Potager and I will be in debt to them for some time. What a great find. Farm to Table, everything fresh, local farms, ranchers and producers. Plus an knowledgeable and passionate chef who knows how to mix and match different ingredients to create some exceptionally tasty and beautiful dishes. A few highlights from the current menu: The coffee roasted beets, with smoked polenta was earthy, smooth and delicious; the winter radish crudo was light and beautifully presented. The pistachio crusted mahi mahi was perfectly cooked with a rich buttery sauce that simply melted in my mouth. Service was truly remarkable. Katelyn provided articulate descriptions of each dish we inquired about so that we were able to paint or have a visual image of what to expect. Few servers have that knowledge or ability. Potager serves wine and beer and the selections were impressive. Mostly European wines that paired perfectly with the dishes. Inside the place is a little dark (lighting wise) but comfortable and reasonably quiet. The interior reminded me of what might be a small rustic restaurant in Italy or France. Very charming. Quintessential farm to table, this place was a delight. I visited this restaurant while in town, and loved to see the rotating menu based on seasonal ingredients. While we ordered a few items, the surprise winner for the night was the corn + anaheim + miso bisque. It was creamy and light but also packed with flavor. Most of the other items we ordered were a mix of small plates + the lasagna and the chicken. While the chicken was crispy and tender, the lasagna was a slight let down being a bit monotonous in flavor. The chocolate pudding dessert was another fan favorite - creamy and rich, I could have eaten this all day. Another thing I really liked was that they offered half bottles/half glasses of wine which made it easy to try their expansive wine collection. Our server was very friendly and gave her recommendations when asked. The food can be a bit slow to come out but it always comes out super warm. It was and still is one of the best French creative restaurants, which is romantic or as I would visit on Saturday evenings (with my dog) to write articles, in their small lounge off side of the beautiful bar, and adding a sumptuous dinner. Truly, I don't know where to start. I haven't been excited about food in a long time just because a lot of the flavors are lacking, but this place is completely different. Every single dish is a culinary delight. I tried the honey whipped ricotta, carrots, the Caesar with sunchoke, and the sweetbread flatbread. Allllll incredible. For my larger plates, we got the coq au van (the wine reduction was incredible and the biscuit is something I will dream of), and the burger and beer. You get an incredible beer, but the burger alone was a stand out knockout. All of the flavors just made it one of the best burgers I've ever had. Ambiance is on point- warm but updated; industrial mix. Candlelit and amazing. On top of it all, anytime my glass dipped a little lower, I had my water refilled. The service is incredible. All of them are knowledgeable, kind, and present. Never once did I have to look up to ask for anything because there was someone there. From A-to-Z, this is a top notch establishment. I had high hopes for this place, but while they source good ingredients they just don't execute well. The service was friendly but at times slow, the wines weren't great. The tart, was not a tart but a crispy cracker of sorts with vegetables on top and dressing underneath. Not sure what the intention was but it failed. The crab salad was nice but forgettable. Nothing really stood out in the dish. The chicken was bland, the sides too and even the vegetables didn't shine. My husband tried their gargouillou which didn't look like it was supposed to. It was a few vegetables on a dish, looked like rabbit food, I have no issues with vegetables but this was a complete fail. The best part was the butter rhubarb cake. However, the night we were there we had a waitress that really didn't act like she wanted to be there. We asked to sit outside and we got somewhat of an attitude from the gal out front who greeted us and our waitress. Granted it was warm outside. Still it shouldn't affect the way she served us. Which was pathetic to say the least. Thanks. She tossed the menus down, went through the specials very quickly and then walked off. Didn't wait for a response from us at all. We had to yell at her across the yard in the back three times to get her to return to our table. It had been a while since we'd been to proteger approximately 10 to 12 years. And we met a really good friend there to have dinner who enjoys the restaurant. However, he was just as appalled as I and my wife were in regards to the service we encountered from the waitress we had. I wanted toI wanted to say something to the manager. However, my wife and friend did not want to say anything. But I felt the need to say something. I truly believe that a memorable experience at any restaurant combines Food, atmosphere and a waiter or waitress that enjoys their job can make an experience at a restaurant, a very memorable one. When I was visiting my sister in Denver, she was so excited to take me to her favorite restaurant, which was of course Potager. With the farm to table vibe, it was easy to fall in love with the seasonal options. We decided to share two small plates, three entrées and a dessert between three people which we are so full at the end, but it was perfect. My favorite dish was actually one of the specials they were offering for the evening, which was a halibut with kimchi bok choy. The wine we selected was also a European red which was so good. This has been a long time favorite . They have an ever changing menu that is based on seasonal foods. Some really creative unique dishes. Started with some sparkling wine and complimentary bread with herbaceous butter. Potager has always been on a short list of Denver favorites. For a decade, I lived a block away and we would enjoy the seasonal menus throughout the year, always ending with the show-stopping chocolate pudding. The salads and greens always fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The entrees nothing short of phenomenal. However, we visited last week for the first time in a few years and it has definitely shifted. The menu didn't have much on it that stood out and everything we ordered was mediocre, including a few specials. We were ordering off of the early winter menu, so staying with the seasonal commitment understandably gets more difficult following the shift out of summer, but the execution of the flavors wasn't what we remembered and we left disappointed. It's always sad when a long standing favorite (we've been going for over 20 years!) doesn't hit the mark. I'm not giving up, I'll be back, but cautiously and maybe I'll wait until late summer when Colorado's seasonal delights are abundant. read more

Food: Overall I was impressed with the wine selection/pricing and the service. The food was half wonderful and half so salty, I couldn't even taste the food (1) Roasted carrots - delicious! Honey ricotta was a great pairing and the carrots were seasoned well! (2) SPECIAL some sort of grain (I can't remember the name) it was super super salty - we barely ate any (3) SPECIAL Brussels sprouts with a lobster aioli. This was super delicious but also incredibly salty. We ended up getting a second one because the flavors but I really wished it was less salty (4) Semolina gnocchi, curried pumpkin ragout, root veg, pickled mustard seed, sage. This was really good but I was disappointed with the size. There was THREE triangle shaped gnocchi. Super small portion. The price was okay for the portion and it is under "small plates" but beware. (5) All the wine was phenomenal. I am a bit of a wine connoisseur, and I was thoroughly impressed with every red wine that I tasted. And the pricing for them all were incredibly fair. The people here are wonderful and the ambiance is so unique, elegant and elevated yet cozy. I felt super welcomed into this space by all the waitstaff and my glass of water was always filled to the brim. We ordered the mushroom soup, the flatbread with sweet potato+apples+walnuts, and the chicken. When they brought out the house bread, I was overjoyed, that was until I bit into it and it tasted like a stale Hawaiian roll. The mushrooms soup was pretty tasty, a nice umami kick. I loved the combination of sweet potato with the apple and walnut on the flatbread, so creative and perfect for the fall. I was so disappointed by the chicken entree we ordered, it was rubbery and had some tendons in it which ruined my appetite a bit and to top it off, none of the flavors for the entree were distinguishable. Farm to Table Done Right! We were given a gift certificate to Potager for our anniversary and finally got to use it this month. As soon as we walked in we felt at home, both from the welcome and from the cozy atmosphere. The wine list looks very nice: modest in size, but filled unique offerings. They have a "curated flight" of half-glass pours, so I asked for this and was delighted by wines I would never have thought to order from the list. We started with the souffle that was incredibly delicate and flavorful, and with the the Greens Roulade, which I wanted to like, but seemed too tough and more bitter than I'd like. For our mains, we went with that night's specials: comforting beef & pork meatballs and satisfying seared scallops. So good. And then, after dessert, probably because it was our anniversary, they brought out a "gift" of house made "Basil-chello" that was so yummy and a perfect ending to our experience. While the menu will undoubtedly have you reaching for your phone to Google certain ingredients, each dish is beautifully executed to highlight the simplicity of each & every vegetable. These dishes are artistically presented but never favor unnecessary garnish over flavor or satisfaction. Complex compositions yet accessible to any palate. Reasonably sized portions to leave you feeling full rather than gluttonous. Extremely attentive (but not annoying) servers. They're knowledgable without sounding like culinary scholars. They'll give you an honest answer when asked what their favorite menu items are. They won't steer you wrong (it's nearly impossible to do here). It's obvious the staff enjoys being there, sharing their love of food & drink with each guest. The ambiance is as balanced as the dishes. Refined yet unpretentious. Background noise of REAL conversations - friends enjoying each other's company, not a frivolous & debaucherous bachelorette party. As someone who doesn't drink, even one glance at the wine list will impress, not overwhelm. Carefully curated, adventurous but never without reason. Ask what will pair well with your dish. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I was excited to try this place but it was extremely disappointing. I ordered the crusted grouper ($34). The portion was very small, and so oversalted it was inedible--I couldn't eat more than two bites. Another person in our group ordered the same dish and theirs was seemly salty but ok, which shows mine was clearly a mistake. (However, after the meal she started to feel unwell) When we received the check they did not remove the salty, inedible dish. When I politely explained this and asked not to pay for something I couldn't eat, the manager argued with me like a toddler, stomped away and reluctantly removed it but told me I was never welcome back. We were polite the entire time, yet treated with complete disrespect. Two other nearby tables also complained about their food. Unacceptable service, poor quality, and a shocking attitude from management. No wonder the place was nearly empty at 6:30 PM. If I could give less stars I would. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

A gem on Capitol Hill. Simple honest food with locally sourced ingredients. By day the exterior is not much to look at, but in the evening there is a warm glow full of diners. Menu changes every few months. Their souffle makes a regular appearance. I had one with a chevre mixture. My first savory version and I thought it could use more rise and airiness. My entree was executed well, but I would like more integration of the plate. The green sauces are juiced herbal components and was very mild in flavor and was more of a visual feature. Visiting Denver , my friend and I decided to have a high end farm to table restaurant adventure. Potager is very Funky, but in a good way . It's not cheap and the plates are small. The food is creative delicious and very fresh.. Service was great. I left my phone behind and wasn't able to photograph our meal and am very sorry for that. I believe this restaurant has been around for 25 years and it is popular and busy . We arrived 5 minutes after opening and there was already a line out the door. The wine, small appetizer and Main Entree were all good. I wish I had paid more attention to photographing and ordering the food. My friend and I were catching up on life and I didn't really think about the review. Menu is never the same. Experience it for yourself while visiting Denver. Difficult to imagine what I could add to this review that hundreds of other 5-stars haven't already said better! Potager continues its reign as one of the best dining experiences in the state. Contrary to the report of another recent yelper, we had nothing but absolute charm and kindness from all of the waitstaff we interacted with (3 or 4 people). The restaurant is unpretentious, clean, comfortable, and easy to enjoy and maintain group conversations without shouting, even when packed full for dinner. The food is approachable and excellent down to every last detail. The menu changes, but when we visited our group sampled the peach flatbread, a special pasta, the salmon, the chicken, a special Tuesday night burger, multiple desserts (all of the chocolate options), various wines and one NA herby spritzer drink. Potager is a fine dining farm-to-table restaurant. I ordered from the summer menu. The dishes I got (and most of the others on the menu) were light, crisp, refreshing. They use a lot of vegetables and herbs, with a few protein- and grain-based ingredients. There are some bold flavors and creative combinations. It's not exactly a vegetarian or vegan menu, but it almost could be. The menu changes occasionally, so it may have a different feel in a few months. The space is rustic. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Small issue: the zucchini carpaccio had lots of parmesan on it, and it was on a small plate. It was impossible to eat without getting parmesan everywhere.
