After the first few times I came here, I thought "it's good for Davis Square." But I've been here enough since, and had pretty solid meals and happy hours, to now think it really holds its own against some of the other Italian restaurants in the area. The ambience is amazing! So warm and inviting, with soft lighting and rustic wood tables and chairs, all warmed by the glow of the pizza oven. We have tried apps, salad, pizza and pasta and dessert and all are really solid, served piping hot, the dough for the bread and pizza seem really fresh, and the portions are generous. My one big complaint is all of the food is under-salted. Like ALL of it. We were sitting at the bar one night, and another diner asked if she could borrow the salt grinder in front of us, promising to return it. We said sure and I asked what she was having. "The swordfish...it's gonna be good with a little salt." See what I mean? My only other issue is that this style of pizza, touted as "Neapolitan", is too floppy and droopy in the center for my taste. And the eggplant pizza needs much more eggplant. But the flavor is there - fresh dough, wood fired - pretty good. I like the mushroom pizza best. I've also had hit or miss experiences with some of the salads - out of season tomatoes, odd combos. But the arancini, bruschetta (I know - why get this when you're getting pizza too? But my husband lives for a good bruschetta) and meatballs are very good. The smoked rosemary bread is outstanding, and arrives like a present, wrapped in parchment, and fresh and steaming hot! What a treat! And the pastas are nicely steaming hot, seemingly cooked to order and yummy (after a bit of salt...) The desserts we tried were during happy hour, so they were petite versions of cannoli - very good and I loved the crispy, flavorful shell - and we also had a standard, a-ok tiramisu. The service is very good and friendly. The crowd is welcoming. So I say come and get the smoked rosemary bread and dip it in the sauce around the meatballs. This place is so great! The wait staff is very kind and very patient. We adored our waiter and he was very nice. The menu was very straight forward and has unique cocktails and fun appetizers. The drinks are great! The food is even better. The bathroom was clean and the restaurant had a great vibe. Be aware that there is an additional service fee that I learned about from a sign in the bathroom. It isn't a big deal, but I wasn't expecting that in the bathroom. Absolute hidden gem in Davis square. Not sure how long it's been here but wish I knew sooner. It's a perfect date spot - IF you enjoy good food on the date. If you're looking for bells and whistles and tourist traps etc., then it's not your spot. The food was absolutely delicious. You can it's fresh and homemade. We were visiting the Boston, and arrived at the restaurant on a busy Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar. Based on the reviews, I was really excited to try the food. I ordered the chicken barbecue pizza for my husband and the pasta carbonara for myself to go. It took a few moments for the bartenders to take my order because all three of them were watching a sports event on one of the bartenders phones. Once my order was taken, the food arrived relatively quickly. It took a while for me to get the attention of one of the bartenders so that I could pay my bill and leave. The pasta carbonara was still hot by the time we got back to the apartment but it had no taste. It was absolutely bland with only tiny dots of bacon throughout. Somewhere between a 3 and a 4. The two pizzas we ordered were pretty good, with a chewy, puffy crust, but the toppings felt ... lacking. The pineapple/soppressata one was overwhelmed by the saltiness of the meat, which was fine, I ended up picking the meat bits off and enjoying the pineapple on its own. The apple one was a little bland. I usually don't like extremely strong flavors but this pie needed bigger chunks of gorgonzola and/or more of the caramelized onions. Not much of the apple shone through, leaving only a slightly crunchy texture. As it were, the only flavor I got was the arugula. I did like the summer salad (get it while it's still on the menu), with tomatoes, ricotta, honey, and perfectly ripe peaches. I would've been happy eating just this dish and foregoing the pizza. The thing that stuck in my craw was the 5% "kitchen fee", which was included as part of the food and the drinks, and then we were taxed on the total. Each pie, including the margherita, was already $20+. All told, with tax and tip, dinner ended up being around $50 for two small-ish slices, some salad, and a drink. 2.5 Stars Maybe our expectations were set high, but overall underwhelming relative to our experiences at other places where we paid the same/similar amount of food. We ordered the arancini, calamari, and mushroom pizza. For drinks we got Birth of Venus and Pink Potion. The food was not bad but also not stand out. The arancini was very bland and the calamari batter could also have used more seasoning. The mushroom pizza disappointingly did not have the flavor complexity you'd hope for given the list of ingredients it has. Instead the most prominent aspect of the pizza flavor was the saltiness. Drinks were fine, both on the sweet side. It took a while to get the check. Saw other tables who asked for their checks after us able to check out first by a significant amount of time. A decent experience overall, but with several points that were noticeably lame. Food: got the burrata, which was noticeably cold; the prosciutto and watermelon and cheese had clearly come straight from the refrigerator. Part of what makes burrata great is its flowing texture, and this was undermined by the temperature. Also, I felt that the combination of elements just didn't work, compared to other types of melon, which are in season. Finally, it came with no bread -- which I've just never experienced when ordering burrata. We couldn't find our waiter, but a captain finally saw our pleading looks, and put in a ($4) order for bread, which turned out to be AMAZING. Why didn't our server at least ask us if we wanted bread? The brussels sprouts were fine -- crispy, definitely too hot to eat right away. The seasoning was uninteresting -- not even some paprika? The pizza was very good, though the crust was so thin and the sauce and melted cheese so wet that the center was soggy. The bolognese was the biggest hit, nothing special, but solid. First meal in Boston, we decided to try Posto in Somerville. My brother read somewhere that it was considered one of the top 50 pizzas in the world. No idea where this was seen. The lady serving us was great. No issues with the service for us. The ambiance was good. The lights were low. Fire from pizza oven was going which also helped. I had the LIMONATA (Pomegranate, Lemon, and Bubbles) which was delicious. My brother and sister had the Raspberry Spritz - (raspberry & basil, lime, with ginger beer) they stated it was great as well. Me and my sister both had the Gnocchi - (braised beef short rib, red wine sauce, Parmesan crema). The meat were small chunks. The Gnocchi itself was the best thing about the dish. There was something crunchy inside the dish which was most likely tiny diced carrots or celery were guessing. Probably good to have change in consistency to avoid everything from having a soft texture. It was OK, if I had to go back I would not get it again. My sister agreed. I believe my brother had the Meatball Red Pizza - (beef, pork, veal, mozzarella, Asiago, Parmesan, oregano, and garlic). He stated the pizza was ok, but he had better at various places. Had a great experience but it was funny to read back my review from 2017. Back then a margherita pizza was $14. Nowadays, it's $22. I still recommend this pizza even though it's gone up $8 in 5 years. The sauce is divine. The cheese is perfect. The crust has char. It's the kind of fragrant delicious authentic homemade pizza you can compare to those you find in Florence. I paired it with a $14 glass of Vermentino white wine and for dessert a $4 scoop of fluffy delicious lemon sorbet. They also post that they've included a 5% back of house fee to help pay staff more fairly, I respect this. Very shocked at how much the price has gone up though. A margherita pizza really shouldn't be $22, but the quality is really incredible. read more

We stumbled upon this place craving a good pizza. Being slightly south of Davis Square, the lively and distracting foot traffic from the square doesn't interrupt the ambiance of the restaurant. We originally planned to sit outside, but after seeing the sun shining directly onto the tables, we decided on indoor seating. The restaurant was pretty empty, but filled up very quickly. We split the bruschetta and warm olive appetizers. The bruschetta was a little too acidic, probably from the balsamic and pickled red onion, and the bread was cut a little too thick. The olives were very good and the portion was generous, although it was heavy on the oil. We decided on the prosciutto pizza, which was very good. I was a little disappointed to see the prosciutto was not cooked with the pizza, but instead was simply placed on top, but it covered the entire pizza, so I couldn't complain. It was a nice dinner, especially for choosing it on a whim. With such a wide variety of pizzas, I'm sure I'll be back to try another. read more

Odd, it had some good reviews. The Marguirita pizza had been recommended, wet, tasteless, took forever to get, bland. Octopus overcooked and in a mix of vegetables while it was theoretically grilled. "Green" salad was brown, perhaps from the aged pieces of apple. they added a 5% charge for the kitchen. Maybe that could fund some cooking lessons. read more

Some of the best pizza I have ever had... good cocktails... great staff.... BUT What is the deal with the blasting of pop music nonstop in the Assembly Row location? I have been over three times since it opened and each time it is an incessant stream of Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys, and pop hits from 2005 - 2016. I just don't get the vibe they're going for. Such a good spot in every regard but if you sit near the hotel entrance you can't have a conversation! Please do not come here as a young women or a person with disabilities!!!! Me and my friends are all in our late 20s and wanted to book a nice dinner for our friends birthday. We made a reservation set a date and were excited to get together since everyone is so busy between weddings and babies, etc. Immediately upon sitting our server was acting extremely weird to all of us. Fine - I've had bad servers before. This is not the issue. One of my friends has severe allergies and can not eat at any restaurant due to cross contamination. After we already ordered drinks and apps (clearly planning on spending money here) our friend (1 of 6) took out small pieces of food so she could eat dinner as well. Immediately our server gave us a nasty look and clearly went to get the manager. In a normal situation I would expect some grace and a level headed conversation. This is NOT what happened. The manager came over got about 3 inches away from my friends face and told her she could not bring other establishments food into their restaurant. Let me be clear - the food was clearly from her kitchen not a chipotle or McDonald's etc. very quickly this led to him raising his voice and clearly trying to speak down to us and I honestly believe it was because we were young women as well. For a place that charges so much for food you would expect an ounce of respect or understanding. Our friend even said she'd put the food away (which she is legally not obligated to do) and he stayed getting in her face. After about 5 minutes of him being extremely aggressive I asked for the check to leave. While we were still in the restaurant they cancelled my reservation to try to get a cancel fee from open table as If we did not show up. Overall I have NEVER experienced such an awful person let alone a front facing client manager. I would hope people choose to spend their money elsewhere. And I hope no one else has to experience this. I also feel so poorly for the women's rehearsal dinner that could clearly hear the manager yelling at us. Posto is an upscale italian restaurant by Davis. Their menu offers interesting takes on traditional italian food. Starting off with the octopus - I would highly recommend trying it out with the fingerling potatoes. The combination of texture and flavor from the different ingredients is amazing. Next up is the carpaccio. My favorite dish here. Its sirloin topped with crunchy textures of Parmesan and croutons. Ugh, i wanna go back just for it. I had a squash pizza. It sounded interesting, tasted good, but not something I'd get again. It was worth a try though. read more

I came here for date night on a Friday without a reservation and the wait was about 45 minutes. The service was great, the staff was attentive and nice! We ordered the octopus (amazing! So tender and tasty, we were surprised there were actual grapes in the dish and it was yummy!), gnocchi (the braised beef short rib was also tender and juicy, the gnocchi was so soft and melts in your mouth!), ribeye medium rare (was the perfect texture and delicious!), and the tiramisu (was so light and not too sweet!) We had a reservation and sat immediately. After, we continued to wait a while for the server to take our order. He asked us if we wanted the house bread and said yes...not knowing there was a $4 charge on it. It was delicious but would have been nice to know that it is an extra charge. My husband was craving the short rib and gnocchi. It was lukewarm and there was equivalent to one short rib in there. I ordered the rib eye which was good but super small. It came with a lot of spinach which was nice, maybe even too much. The potatoes were good too. We sat for a while after eating and it probably took our server 20 minutes or so. It wasn't even super busy yet. When the check arrived, we saw that the kitchen admin fee was added to the section with the food items which is weird since we were taxed on an admin fee. Suspect. I have seen the admin fee in the bottom section of the receipt after subtotal. But overall, my experience wasn't good. Enjoyed each and every meal and now I don't think I can have the endive salad without the shrimp add on (very delicious combo). I've heard such good things about this place so we had to try it out. Service was fine. Server was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was cozy. They have really cute outdoor seating that is sectioned off under a roof so it feels like you're on a patio. I got the gnocchi and it was fine. The pasta was really really soft. Like melt in your mouth soft, which I was not expecting from gnocchi. I like the mouthfeel usually, so it was a little too soft for me. The short rib was really well-done. The pizza they said was doughier than normal with a very thin crust and people eat it with a fork and knife, which was interesting. My friend had a spicy meat pizza and it wasn't too spicy even with the chili oil so we got some red pepper flakes and it scratched the pizza itch. read more

Wow! I decided to have Italian on my recent visit to Boston and stumbled across Posto in Cambridge. Don't browse the menu for too long just make a reservation and go. The cocktail drinks knocked my socks off. The garlic bread is a must as an appetizer. The shrimp pesto as an entree is enough to feed a small family but let me tell you all members of the family will be happy with this choice it was delicious.
