I support mom and pop businesses..they are the back bone of a great America economy! Think about it. The First grocery store was a Mom and Pop! The First deli was a Mom and Pop!! The First dry cleaners was a Mom and Pop!! The First bakery was a Mom and Pop!! The First clothing store was a Mom and Pop!! The First hardware store was a Mom and Pop!! The First food mart was a Mom and Pop!! The First any business was a Mom and Pop!! When we had the Best economy we had 10 times as many Mom and Pop businesses than we do now!! Guest what?? Big companies like Walmart hate your Mom and Pop..they want to keep them out of business.. And take your Mom and Pop and use them for their door greeters!! And pay them minimum wage.. And make it seem like they have a soft spot in their hearts for Older people... Aww look at grandpa .. I always shop locally and support Mom and Pop.. I LOVE the people who run this store. Really nice. I've shipped lots of packages out of this store. However, the most recent one is the only one I have actually tracked. I'm giving it a not-so-great review because my package sat in the store for nearly 24 hours before it was picked up. The receipt for the package also has the time the package was dropped off. Mine was dropped off at 4:30 pm. When I checked the tracking, I found it was picked up/accepted at 4:17 pm the next day. Not quite 24 hours later. What the heck? I knew it wasn't going to go out until the next day, but the fact that it was sitting there for a full day is not acceptable. I'll continue to use this store, because, again, the people are really nice. However, the next time I ship something, I'll ask when they expect the package will leave the store. It might mean I walk over to the La Mesa Post Office and see if I can get it out that night. read more

How come I can only give Steve and Janelle and their staff FIVE STARS? Are you kidding? Postal Annex is like the hub of La Mesa! Everyone goes there. Everyone knows everyone there! Steve and Janelle are everyone's best friends and I don't know how they juggle everything they do for everyone and do it with the biggest smiles and seamless efficiency! We found them years ago from all their great reviews including YELP! Plus, we kept running into people who used them or referred us to them. We have several businesses including our main business out of the country where we live. WE COULD NOT DO OUR BUSINESS without Postal Annex taking such good care of us...They go above-and-beyond! They handle our mail...our checks...forwarding package...receiving packages...if they can do it, it gets done! One time they even went way off the charts and found a way to ship LIVE BABY CHICKS to our daughter in Las Vegas! The staff members there were so nice to my son and I! We came in with a bit of an odd request (to print some Jurassic Park Visitor passes we made) not only did they help us print them out but they also laminated them for us and had lanyards available for us so we could actually wear them! While we were doing all of this they had this great fruit puzzle toy that my son was able to play with so he wasn't bored. I haven't left a review in a looonngg time, lets start there. I went to this place on a Saturday morning the week before Christmas needing a passport photo (I know sounds like a bad idea). As you can imagine, there was a line, 3 people on the counter working, and packages all over the place. The line moved super fast, and when it was my turn I was helped by a very friendly man, even though it was full on Christmas rush, he took his time, took my picture, and told that they can help me send my passport documents when I was ready. Forward to the following Thursday (yep, even closer to Christmas, I need my passport ASAP don't judge!!) I arrived right when they opened, the friendly man was there and remembered me from my previous visit, he calmly helped me verify everything was correct and that I had the right documents.He printed the label, put it all in an envelope, and sealed it!! I was out in less than 10 minutes! I will be a returning customer for sure! I have stopped in here several times to use their services and they are always quick, friendly, and helpful. The price is right too. Unfortunately, one negative comment I have is that I've heard Steve (I believe is the owner?) use mild profanity casually in sentences more than once and I found that to be kind of unprofessional and inconsiderate. read more

I hesitate writing this because I really like the people and their dog, but I feel they overcharged me for the second time. I asked for the cheapest rate and immediately was charged Priority Mail - not the cheapest option. I wish them well, but you really should let your customers SEE or HEAR the options before charging them as the Clairemont Annex does. Can't afford to go back. read more

Very helpful when I inquired on the phone about passport photos, she directed me to Costco which was the cheapest and that they would help me mail it out. When I arrived after an easy trip to Costco, I spoke with the lady's husband and he was very helpful in mailing out my old passport and the paperwork needed to get my married name on my new passport! read more

While I like the one-solution shipping store for unusual items, I am not happy with the prices they charge for "ordinary" mail. I brought a couple of first class items that cost less than $2.50 to ship via USPS and found that Steve wanted $4.00. That is over 70% markup. Since I will be mailing several dozen of these identical items, I cannot justify that large a markup. He seemed indifferent to my mild complaint. read more

I've used a lot of these shipping places as I have family that lives out of state, but this one stands out. My husband and I were having passport photos taken to mail in renewals to the State Department. The person who helped us, Brittany, was amazing. Not only did she do a nice job with our photos but she is very knowledgable about the application process and how to submit the renewal forms and fees, via USPS. She weeded out the forms that were not needed, put both of our applications in the same envelope, (which I didn't know we could do, but it saves us postage), and gave us tips on making the process smooth (ie: putting our DOB's on the checks). She was also notarizing items for other customers while training another staff member, and still not missing a beat. She's a college student whose grandparents own the business and you can tell she takes pride in her work and really knows what she's doing. There are also a lot of cards and other small retail items in the shop that make nice little gifts. Wonderful family business and staff. read more

I doubt I will ever go back to the post office after the customer service I have received at the La Mesa Postal Annex. I have been here several times in the past and always been impressed by the customer service. My trip today, however, really sealed the deal. Not only did the Postal Annex employees spend a good hour helping me figure out how to best send a package overseas (including making numerous phone calls on my behalf), it is only due to their sheer diligence and perseverance that we discovered sending said package would have almost guaranteed it being lost in transit forever. As this package happened to have my engagement ring inside, needless to say I was extremely relieved that I hadn't taken it to the post office and just dropped it off. To top it all off, before I left they even gave me the names of some local jewelers who might be able to work on my ring. To say I am impressed with this place is truly an understatement. I wish every business in San Diego operated the way the La Mesa Postal Annex does. read more

I gave them a one star because this was my only option. I went into this place before and they charge me way to much for printing an item. Today was the last straw I was looking for an annex that I could do business with that was close to my home. First I asked Hello I am looking to open up a mailbox the older lady had this look that she didnt want to help with the set up and I heard a gasp in her voice. Now it gets better I asked for the cost another lady blurted out $70.00 for six months. Ok I said you mean that I don't have an option of three months. No was the reply. I say ok ...now I am going to have a lot of packages deliver can you notify me via email once they arrive? The older lady said No we are way to busy to do that and stated that I should know when my packages are coming...excuse me, but I am a business owner as well, other places have no problem with notifying customers as a courtesy This is not a place that I will ever visit again.
