Bywater is a highly popular restaurant that has the notoriety of being a James Beard semi finalist…read more We were very much looking forward to an excellent dinner with the family. They have a daily menu, and I've had some friends suggest this place as their favorite restaurant. We parked blocks away due to the lack of adequate parking. Once we walked in, we were greeted with pleasant smiles from the staff. The menu was short, which we attributed to a focus on quality. We ordered a French onion dip and a littleneck entree as an app for the table. We were served with lukewarm water, neither cold nor hot. The apostle John might have been somewhat disappointed (Rev 3:16). The dip was decent but was somewhat lacking in great onion flavor. But nothing to complain about. The little necks were served in a small bowl and lacked a bit of salt. Rather pricey for $26, but this place charges $6 just for bread and butter, so maybe it's just inflation? Enter the entrees. They apparently were short on chicken legs so they asked to substitute chicken breast. Two of us got burgers. First the $20 burgers, which were served with an aioli with no offer of ketchup or other condiments. In short, both burgers were terrible. Far worse than we make at home. It's always a disappointment when you realize you're paying all this extra for food you can make better at home. The buns were shockingly flat, like someone smashed them by hand. Or in a McDonald's box. Come to think of it, the flavor was similar, though overall the hamburger was somewhat bitter, salty and lacked an appetizing flavor. Wow. We all agreed they were terrible. The fries were also burnt and over salted. My daughter quit on her $30 chicken, so I tried it. The sauce wasn't bad, and it was served with a decent brocollini. But the chicken was some of the driest I've had in a restaurant, with no crisp skin and a uniformly poor texture. No wonder no one finished their entrees. And I hate wasting food. So, as much as we would have wanted to give this place a great rating, we just won't be back. The service, although with a smile, was slow and terrible. Our candle burnt out in the middle of dinner. It was never relit. Our glasses were empty halfway through dinner. No refills on the tepid water. The entrees took an hour and a half before they came out (we were warned the chicken could take 30 min). Generally a very disappointing experience. Hard to explain the rave reviews but our Saturday dinner was a sad bust. The cold wet madeleines they provided in a doggie bag didn't do anything to help. Oh well. Hope y'all have a better experience if you go here.

Bywater, we will be back!…read more Warren, RI has some great restaurants and I was surprised since I don't frequent this area much. But after this past weekend, I know I want to come back. We were having a lovely dinner in Warren and stopped into Bywater for a quick after-dinner drink. It was a bit cooler out but since they had no seats in the extremely limited bar area, we took the plunge and sat outside near their fire pits. They did not have many wines to choose from BTG which was disappointing. The one I had which was Cinsault was just ok. I had to dump out most of it since I did not enjoy it but that was my fault since sampling it I thought I liked it. My friend had the bartender make her a cocktail with grapefruit since they did not have pineapple. She was looking for a French martini but seemed to enjoy what they made her. My husband's espresso martini was very good I thought and light but could've used some bailey's. We already had dessert so we did not plan on anything else but I know I am interested in returning for dinner. The restaurant is very small inside but I loved the warm lights and decor. It was a very sexy and attractive vibe! If you are ever in Warren I highly recommend coming here for either drinks, dinner, or both. Dress warm if you plan on heading outside to sit near the fire...it does not give off that much heat! Cheers!

We just relaxed and ate a few courses, were there about 90 minutes and I never felt rushed. Everyone who helped us was kind and the pizza was delicious. My friends loved her steak salad. The first time I came was on a Sunday, and the restaurant was very quiet with only a few people there. The server who took our order completely forgot to ring in our drinks and food--not once, but twice. We waited around 30 minutes before anything arrived, and when it finally did, the drinks were incorrect. What made the situation worse was that the server never apologized or acknowledged the mistake. That being said, the food itself was excellent and honestly a 10/10. I decided to give the restaurant another chance and came back on a Friday, expecting a better experience. Unfortunately, the service was even worse this time. The servers seemed extremely unorganized and unprofessional. We waited about 10 minutes just to receive menus. When we tried to order two different bottles of wine, we were immediately told they didn't have either one, without much explanation or any attempt to offer alternatives. The atmosphere is supposed to be calm and relaxing, but one of the servers was extremely loud, which took away from the overall experience. I also noticed a child behind the bar, who was later driving a scooter around the back parking lot. Whether or not this is typical, it definitely added to the feeling that the restaurant lacked organization and professionalism. To be fair, the food was once again very good, and I have absolutely no complaints about the quality of the food. The biggest issue is the customer service and overall management of the dining experience. There is clearly a lot of potential here, but the service needs significant improvement. It's especially disappointing because I originally heard about this place through an employee who works across the street at their other location. She was incredibly sweet, professional, and had a great personality, which gave me high expectations coming here. Unfortunately, the experience at this location did not come close to matching that level of hospitality. I really hope they take this feedback seriously because the food is genuinely amazing. With better organization, communication, and customer service, this could be a much better dining experience.

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I didn't have the best time at Providence Wine Bar…read more This might sound a little haughty, but hear me out: I can drink wine at home. I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

It is not heavily seasoned and it was tender and flavorful. The juices surrounded the steak, really that's all it needed. I did order a side of Demi, but hardly used it. We sat at the upstairs bar and had the best service and even got to watch the Red Sox game. 22 Bowen's Wharf has a crazy selection of steaks, I'm sure I didn't pick their best, but it was exactly what I was looking for. We started with the local farm stand salad with fresh burrata cheese and locally gown tomatoes. It was amazing...nothing like fresh summer grown tomatoes and basil from Rhode island. The bartender sold me on the key lime pie as they make the key lime pie with key limes outsourced from the Florida keys. Always a great meal at 22 Bowen's.

When making our reservation, we noticed there was an option to mark that we were celebrating an anniversary, and I have to say, they truly acknowledged it in such a thoughtful way. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who immediately wished us a happy anniversary. We were then escorted upstairs to our table, where we were treated to a beautiful view overlooking the harbor. The restaurant itself is elegant without feeling stuffy, making it the perfect setting for a special occasion. Our server, Cailin, greeted us promptly, wished us a happy anniversary, and offered us a complimentary champagne toast. While neither of us are big champagne drinkers, it was such a thoughtful gesture that immediately made the evening feel even more special. It's little touches like that that turn a nice dinner into a memorable celebration. Moreover, it was just nice to hear the champagne flutes clink. (Plus the champagne was great!) To drink, we both ordered the dragon fruit margaritas. They were not only delicious but absolutely beautiful, with their vibrant pink color and striking black salt rim. To start, we shared the Caesar salad (without anchovies) and the stuffed artichoke. The Caesar dressing tasted homemade and was packed with flavor. The stuffed artichoke was easily the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked and served with a divine green goddess sauce that I could have eaten by the spoonful. My husband also ordered the clam chowder, which he absolutely loved. I don't eat seafood, but I tried a spoonful of the broth and even I thought it was excellent. For our entrées, my husband ordered the pork, and I chose the New York strip steak. Both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I paired my steak with both the horseradish crema and Bowen's steak sauce, while my husband enjoyed the chimichurri with his pork. Every sauce complemented the dishes beautifully. For sides, we ordered the seasonal vegetables, which were perfectly cooked green beans, the four-cheese potatoes au gratin with crumbled bacon, and the truffle mac and cheese. The potatoes were rich and comforting, the green beans provided the perfect balance, and the truffle mac and cheese was absolutely incredible, not to mention a very generous portion. Before our entrées arrived, our table was presented with beautiful steak knives, another thoughtful detail that elevated the experience and made cutting into the steak effortless. By the end of dinner we were completely full, so instead of dessert we each ordered an espresso martini. They were perfectly balanced and the ideal way to end such an incredible meal. From the stunning harbor views and elegant atmosphere to the impeccable service and outstanding food, every part of our evening felt special. We left feeling celebrated, and we're so happy we chose 22 Bowen's for our first wedding anniversary. If you're looking for a restaurant in Newport to celebrate a milestone or simply enjoy an exceptional meal, this is one I wholeheartedly recommend.

The ambiance was cozy and inviting, though our table was in the middle of the aisle which felt a bit cramped. Unfortunately, the service itself was inconsistent. We had to ask for bread three times. When we ordered two brownies and one coffee, we were brought one brownie and two coffees. At the end of the meal, we asked for both my meal and my son's meal to be wrapped to go. My son's plate was accidentally thrown away because other plates were stacked on top of it. When I asked about it, the server explained what happened but did not offer to remake it, remove it from the bill, or apologize, which was disappointing. That said, it was a busy Friday during Restaurant Week, so I would consider coming back and hope the service is smoother next time. While writing this review, I actually received a text from the restaurant letting me know we left our son's plate behind, which was thoughtful and appreciated. If Yelp allowed half stars, I would give 3.5.
