Ordering was easy on the app. I arrived about 20 minutes before my scheduled pickup time, but the staff at pickup was very nice and let me know it would be up quickly. Store was fairly empty at that time. Restroom was available with code. They asked if I needed a bag for the salad bowl but I had brought my own. Utensils and salt/pepper were available to take. I liked the variety of chips and bottled drinks they offered but did not get any extras this visit. Salad was a good sized bowl. It included a little slice of pita bread that was tasty. There were lots of the sliced black olives and edamame. I understand having everything chopped bite sized, great of you are on the go, but my lettuce and other items were diced so finely... I could barely find the cucumber, the pickled onions were still pretty bitter tho tiny, and having grape tomatoes sliced up made them lose their flavor and texture. Apparently only 1 plate can have a garlic sauce. What kind of logic is that?! They both are Mediterranean plates with rice and hummus! 75 cents extra for a tiny garlic sauce. Custom charge of $3.00 was added to our $24 combo plates because I substitute the beef for another salmon Kabob. The other Kabob was a chicken. A takeout order, they charges 15 cents for a paper bag. Kafta Kebab plate $18.99 Mixed Grill Combo $23.99 Single pita bread $1.00 Custom Charge $3.00 Garlic Paste 0.75 PAPERBAG FEE 0.15 Credit card surcharge of 3% is added to the bill. The bill came out to be $55 for a takeout meal that's inside and behind a liquor store. All the highlighted upcharges on the receipt (see picture) that other restaurants does not charges. This is just taking advantage of your customer. Next time, I'll enjoy a nice sit down meal at a Mediterranean restaurant down the street with those prices. So underwhelming and disappointed. I know times are tough. I'm sure that $20 plus dollars you charge for a plate of food already made the business some profit already. Chris Sweeney has become a beacon for the local community (Long Beach and Los Angeles). He speaks up for many who have been through it within the past year, and never makes you feel like you're forgotten. Admittedly, sometimes I've avoided stopping in due to funds being tight and he's let myself and the community know he's here for us. I've volunteered with RightMealz during the fires that devastated the greater LA area. He was the one who put our city on the map first with multiple drives for necessities, and delivered with a uhaul regularly. Usually, I fiend for the avocado toast with a slightly runny egg because chef knows how to make it just right. I pair it with a lavender latte, or an iced Chai latte. Other times I'm checking the fridge for chef's turkey mushroom meatballs with cashew cheese. I do not like turkey or mushrooms... But that meal is cleverly made to make me eat both and want more. My SO loves the breakfast bowls in house. I'm a sucker for the open-air space. I take people to RightMealz for the food, ambiance, and for the hospitality. The pita bread that they served with the meal was definitely homemade and delicious. All in all it was a $20 well spent. If you're in downtown Long Beach on Pine avenue, I highly recommend going to Saffron for some excellent Mediterranean fare. Give them a try. You will be happy you did.
