I did return because I was impressed by my first visit. This time the experience was different. The coffee this time was very weak and diluted. I ordered the machaca and huevos. Although the machaca and eggs looked great with all the diced veggies it was totally bland. The refried beans and rice were also bland. Too bad. I think I tasted more of the pot the beans were cooked in haha. I have two stars because at least the food was not dry or old.

When we arrived, the line was really long, even though I had called ahead and was told there was no wait. We still had to put our name on the list, but to their credit, we were seated within a few minutes. The place was definitely crowded and loud. I ordered water and coffee, and my friend just got water. A staff member brought the drinks but ended up spilling the coffee all over the table and menu. He just said, "Sorry about that," and walked off. I figured he would come back to clean it up, but he didn't. I had to flag him down to ask for napkins. Instead of helping, he just dropped off a stack. It was a lot of coffee, four napkins were soaked. Thankfully, our server Paris turned things around. She was super friendly and had great personality. I asked her for a recommendation between the breakfast burrito and the Belgian waffle. She suggested the burrito, and it did not disappoint. My friend got the country fried steak (which Paris said was the best in town), and he was also craving a pancake, so they let him sub that in for toast. Service started off rocky, but Paris made the experience better. I probably would not return to sit down but I would order take out.

Very homey feeling when walking in and the staff was super friendly. The only thing is, the food could've used more seasoning.

First timers driving by from out of town. OMGOSH pancakes. I was looking for good ones and I definitely found them. Hubby really enjoyed the CFS. It's his go to when we stop into wonderful places like this. Potatoes done exactly as asked, coffee..YES PKEASE keep this wonderful taste comin'. Wait staff...10/10. Very kind friendly and knowledgeable. What we need more of everywhere. We will be back. Oh...saw onions-had to taste onion rings. DELICIOUS! We will be back when in town again.

I thought it was good but not great. First time trying pops cafe with some friends and we weren't sure whether to try the huevos rancheros so I went safe and ordered corned beef hash... I asked the lady if it's made in house and she said yes but ... definitely Did not taste like it. Maybe I did not ask the question the right way haha but yeah it didn't taste like something they made or look that way either. I've had homemade corned beef hash and this def was not it. My friend got their pork chorizo plate and the beans were def canned also. The country fried steak also did not taste like something they made themselves. The price for these plates were about $17+ each. The pancakes on the other hand were great! We loved the pancakes a lot! That's where they get there 3 stars from me. I heard this place gets pretty packed and you seat yourself. Service was good though. Friendly people. The food was just ok. Thankful for those pancakes though...

Noisy; popular and well organized. Food was great! The salsa could be much better but overall, great. The breakfast burrito was good and quite big. Waffle breakfast was equally good. Service is always attentive. Will be back!

Very good service! Food was good nothing special about it. The inside was loud like any breakfast restaurant. The walls have old license plates from different states and countries. We were charged for an extra coffee which and also they charged us more than the bill amount. When they swiped the credit card it was .93 cents more than what the food receipt said. I didn't read anywhere if they charge to pay for credit card or did they warn me but I figured that's what it was.

Great home style food . Place is somewhat small but it's worth the visit. Server was great as well

My boyfriend recommended me this mom and pop shop. We tried coming here a couple times but the wait was insane! We tried one more time on Valentine's Day and we waited for about 30-45 minutes, considering the date, it wasn't too bad! The portions are hefty and the waiter was patient and polite.

Pop's is a longtime local favorite in Downey. It provides excellent service, good food and reasonable prices. It won't break the bank to take the family out for breakfast! I've explored much of the menu, but I always return to their famous pancakes! They are enormous, fluffy, and have that perfect, old-fashioned hotcake flavor that other spots just can't match. The BLT on rye or sourdough is another standout: a classic sandwich absolutely piled high with super crispy, perfectly cooked bacon. If you're looking for genuine, quality food and a great atmosphere, make a special trip to Pop's!

This is the yolk from the eggs that I had to pick out just to eat my food.

I was so excited to come here. Reviews were pretty good and food looked great. I ordered the corn beef hash with over medium eggs, but I got well done eggs, so I asked if they would remake it, and the waiter took it back, but instead of remaking it they threw it back on the grill and cooked it some more... Kind you they don't know that the egg yolk when fully cooked for some stupid reason makes me violently sick like projectile vomit sick not sure why, but it does, either way I shouldn't have to tell them that because I simply asked for over medium eggs and I should have gotten over medium eggs.

This great breakfast place in Downey is new to our family. I LOVE to eat breakfast and Pop's was a name that I had heard of but had never had the opportunity to eat there. You know the food is good when there is a line on a Wednesday at 9AM! I had the omelette and Andres ate the Chicken fried steak and eggs. Such a quaint little restaurant! I'm sad to say I haven't been able to dine in here since the pandemic but man do I miss the pancakes. Delicious, homemade food! I suggest the obvious: PANCAKES. Prices are fair. Wish they had more tea selections but that's just me. I'd recommend the normal breakfast of pancakes, eggs & bacon. The food is great both in quality & quantity. Love this place so much. So happy that this place is still here. Haven't been here in over a 12 years. We ordered: STEAK AND EGGS WITH BISCUIT GRAVY- asked for medium.. was cooked well done. That's fine bc I really came here for the biscuit gravy. Their country potatoes are so good. I was going to split it with my daughter.. and they separated in 2 different plates without me asking. I really appreciated that. CORN BEEF HASH BREAKFAST- their corn beef was just ok to me. My daughter like it though DEEP FRIED FRENCH TOAST- this was very very good. Absolutely love this place, still a win! Food is always fresh and delightful. It gets very busy on the weekends so plan to wait a little. Well worth a wait I'd say. Had my go-to "gourmet omelette", which is my favorite. Bacon, cheddar, avocado, tomato omelette. Topped with sour cream and alfalfa sprouts. As always good service too. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it tastes was savory,fresh and crispy. The gravy was smooth, creamy and not so salty. The service is very responsive and respectful however this place does get packed so expect a wait time. Ambiance feels like a hole in the wall type dinner as the location is in between many other shops in a shopping area. Well worth the wait. read more

Pop's is, hands down, the best breakfast in Downey. We come as often as possible for the tasty eggs, perfectly crisp (without being burnt) bacon, awesome pancakes, friendly service. Despite being pretty crowded every day, waits are not terribly long, because the kitchen has it together and the servers are on top of things. Portions are generous, prices are affordable - I cannot think of a single bad thing to say. Do yourself a big favor and have breakfast at Pop's! read more

My new favorite breakfast place!! I'm gonna dream of those pancakes all week and I didn't even order them. I ordered chicken fried steak.... Amazing... with hash browns... amazing... and a biscuit and gravy... yummy... son ordered steak and eggs.. he loved it... he ordered pancakes and fruit for sides and his pancakes were literally one of the best I've ever had... After I had my appointment I was looking for a breakfast place on Yelp and figured hmm let's try it out , normally place that stays open until 2:30pm for breakfast or brunch only is really good, as as we walked in we can pick any seat , service was fast and the food was soo good . I got the chicken fried steak and eggs , my husband had the New York steak and eggs with the hash browns. The chicken fried steak was really tender mostly I have it at other places and it's dry . Would definitely recommend coming here also has their pancakes but forgot the photo lol I did see another review about the cups how they looked all chipped around the top , I have mixed feeling about this .. yes they are a bit banged up but what do you expect it's a small hole in the wall place , or eventually replace them and just not be so harsh on the cups or a different brand . The times I have been to pop's cafe before today were great- lovely service, food comes out super quick. Today I noticed a Trump 2024 sticker on the inside of the employee door on my way to the bathroom. As I was walking out, I said to an older man with white hair who works there that it should be removed. He did not take this well at all. In fact, he got so upset with me that he felt entitled to knock my hat off my head in the parking lot. After telling him I won't come back here in response to his "what are you gonna do?!", I get in my car and he goes on to kick the grill of my car. Everyone has a right to their views. No one deserves to be intimidated or have their property mistreated because of some words. This is not the first review for pop's cafe that talks about management's hostile attitude towards customers and even staff. I am looking forward to taking my business elsewhere in Downey. read more

Saturday morning is packed, but the wait wasn't that long. The portions are really big and for a good price. The corn beef has was really good and I recommend the Irish hash browns (comes with peppers and onions). I also tried and biscuits and gravy, which was also really good. The chicken fried steak comes with the same gravy and was delicious and comforting. Overall breakfast was good and I'll be coming back again. read more

Another great breakfast at Pop's. Had the country breakfast. My fiancé got the steak and eggs with side of French toast. Everything was great. Our server was Bailey... such a sweetheart. I appreciate that they ask if you want onions and bell peppers on top of the hashbrowns, because like my fiancé he is so picky and hates them lol read more

Woah this place has amazing breakfast food and service! We got here at noon on Saturday and there was still a line waiting. The owner Alex is great and very service oriented. Our server Michael was outstanding. He always looked after us despite having lots of tables! I ordered the Veggie omelette and oatmeal. My wife ordered pancakes and scrambled eggs. The Irish potatoes are very tasty! Come here for breakfast or brunch. You will not regret it! read more

I been going to Pops cafe for many years loved the food and service until today I am an also an Uber eats driver and today I accepted a delivery there but had the worst experience in doing uber eats the older lady worker pressured me in accepting the order which accidentally completes the whole delivery process I was left with food in my hands but no address to deliver Uber eats instructed me to take the food and dispose which I was not going to but I was going to try to deliver spoke to the manager was aggressive unprofessional and handled the situation very poorly in front of customers said she had no time for uber eats because she had take care of restaurant I was shocked because uber eats customers are also customers and are equally important since they are also paying customers please if you are customer ordering from uber support please be aware you are not consider important according to the manager read more

This old fashion American Diner is a place I'll definitely come back to. Aside from the bacon, which was over cooked. Everything else was delicious. Been here a couple of times and I absolutely love it. Great little place located in a small shopping center. Outstanding breakfast choices, fast, terrific service, you can't wrong. The service is fantastic, servers will always come around to ask if you need something and your food comes out quick. It is a little small, so there's not many places to sit and if you go on a weekend expect a wait. But its usually pretty fast and well worth it. I plan on going back again ! read more

The earlier you come, the more dessert options you'll have. They also have all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu which I did not try, but everything looked super tasty. I got a few desserts and a matcha strawberry foam latte (they use ceremonial grade matcha) and the biscoff latte. Loved that both weren't overly sweet and the biscoff latte had a rich coffee taste. My favorite dessert by far was the banana mousse. By the time we left, the line was out the door. Even though it was packed, the servers are super friendly and take the time to make sure you're enjoying yourself. Definitely a must try place if you're in Downey. No need to go to LA to try those over hyped dessert places. One Twelve Cafe does it just as good, if not better and they have many more tasty options to choose from.

Pops Café is a true hidden gem! I decided to bring my mom along for breakfast. Even though it was a busy morning and we had a short wait, it was absolutely worth it. The food was fantastic! The biscuits and gravy were some of the best I've ever had! They were rich, flavorful, and perfectly comforting. My mom went with the country fried steak, which was seasoned beautifully with a crispy golden crust and a tender, flavorful interior. The coffee was another highlight. Fresh, hot, and constantly refilled with a smile. The atmosphere is just as inviting as the food. My brother lives about five minutes away from this spot, and I love visiting him in the mornings and heading out to eat breakfast at Pop's, The atmosphere inside is homey and very welcoming. The servers are very kind and patient and loving joking around. The pancakes are unbeatable, and the coffee is amazing as well. Prices are pretty good for what you're getting. Every dish we ordered was well-prepared, and the portion sizes were satisfying. The service was good as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. One of my favorite places to eat! Hands down the best Breakfast in town! I love the homey environment and the homemade food, it's as if you are eating Grandma's cooking. So I stopped by this morning for my favorite deep fried French toast and over heard the waitresses talking about Pop's being open for dinner soon! Always nice to find hidden gems. I was on the lookout for a family friendly place to eat breakfast with great food and Pop's Café definitely has it. I'm usually not one to wait around for breakfast however the line outside Pop's seemed to be moving at a decent pace so I decided to stay and try it out. I am sure glad I did as their eggs benedict were amazing and went well with their delicious Irish potatoes. Usually in places like these you either get great food with mediocre service or mediocre food with great service, Pop's I'm glad to say has both amazing food and service. First time here read a lot of reviews about long lines and having to wait a bit for a table but we just walked right in and sat at the only table open lol which i guess if we would've been here 2 min later we would've waited!! Right away drink orders were taken within 5 min Ordered the deep fried french toast breakfast and my buddy ordered a pancake breakfast.. Amazing service with a friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Our meals were delivered in reasonable time and they were absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the eggs Benedict with the crunchy potatoes. I would've added a picture but was halfway through the plate when I remembered Jose was always checking in and asking if we needed anything. Awful awful awful we got there because of the Google site and we Been at the Santa Ana Pops restaurant before so we decided to follow up on the second restaurant so we were asked request in for reservations and of course Google says that there's no way come on down I tried calling them to confirm no one picks up so once we got there I confronted the waitress in regards to our presents and she says that Google was off-key that Google stole their identity and that we don't follow anything that Google says so go figure read more

Always happy and smiling faces. That make you welcome to eat comfortably. The food is great here! Their portion size are small and their price is decent but their food is really great! Ordered the usual breakfast item Polish sausage and scrambled eggs and was not disappointed I order the hash brown extra crispy and love it. Excellent place!! I have been coming here for 17+ years and I am only 24 lol!! Knew this place since it was located on firestone in the smallest little building that only fit about 5 tables, I love this place and will forever be a customer Highly recommended is the Killer club! Pops cafe is def one of those places when you wanna have a real descent breakfast on a saturday morning. Great environment, great location, great food, delicious coffee and the servers are very friendly.
