Nyla Lopez did a great job helping me with my Pop Pie order. I got 2 Pop Pies and 2 big family style kale slaws. She made up the kale slaws with expertise and we talked about how much we loved them. She gave me suggestions on where I could find flowers for my hubby's birthday. Nyla even asked me what I would be doing the rest of the day since she knew I was getting ready for my husband's birthday the next day. She was so super friendly and kind and thoughtful. I messed up by not giving her a really big tip which she deserved. I wish there was a way that I could show her how much I appreciated her really great service and kindness. I hope she will be working the next time I go to Pop Pie in Carlsbad. I love the pies and am grateful to be able to get a vegan pop pie. A small So Cal mini chain of handcrafted pies both sweet and savory. Shares a lovely little courtyard with their sister company, Stella Jean's Ice Cream (so you know where the ala mode comes from). Love a good slice of pie so this was our evening dessert stop. Pies by slice or whole, hand pies, quiche, savory 5' pies and breakfast items. The selection on this stop had been reduced a good bit during the day so we chose the one sweet pie available that was not refrigerated-Salted Caramel Apple Crumble. This featured diced apples (three types?), an all-butter crust and some warm spices, predominantly cinnamon, and an oat crumble on top. Plus a drizzle of a caramel "sauce". The pie itself was very good. Crust was moist, the filling held together well and wonderfully appley. I will say the cinnamon flavor was very upfront, more than most pies imo. Didn't really detract from enjoyment, just and FYI. The one disappointment was the sauce on top. Barely any flavor of caramel at all. Again, did not detract but did nothing to enhance the flavor profile. I would try other items here again on a next visit without hesitation. read more

We have been here on many occasions and usually love the pot pies, however, today 6/7/25, we we extremely disappointed. Perhaps whoever was on the kitchen was having a bad day. I've been to Pop Pie in University Heights a few times but this was my first time trying this location. I was in the area for work and decided to stop by for lunch. The service was great! The staff had a great attitude and were very welcoming. They don't have any sitting inside, but have a shared dining area with the other business in the complex. I got the steak and ale savory pie and a slice of the salted caramel apple crumble pie. Both were very tasty. The savory pie was great and had a lot of crust, which I am a fan of but others might not agree. The apple pie was great warmed and wasn't too heavy on the cinnamon. read more

I'm a big pot pie enjoyer so I was delighted when we stumbled upon this place. My friends and I got the chicken and aussie pot pies and picked up the salted apple caramel crumble and the lemon curd and mixed berry hand pie. The chicken and aussie ones were very flavorful with a perfectly flaky and buttery crust. I think the only thing is that most of the pastry must have soaked up all the juices so it was a tad bit try but it honestly didn't bother me. No notes on the apple, what I wanted for an apple pie and the lemon curd and mixed berry one was exactly what I needed with a lemony tart flavor and the sweet berries. Everything was so delicious that the next day I went back and picked up a steak and ale pie to try with a side of creamed corn and mashed potatoes & gravy. I couldn't finish it so I left it in the fridge and brought it back with me to the Bay where I stashed it in the freezer. I had it three weeks after I initially bought it and it was still fantastic! I was surprised by how incredibly tender the steak was, the meat was more tender than dishes I've had where the meat was supposed to be "fall off the bone". If you enjoy pot pies, please go here. I'm still dreaming about this place. Next time I go down, I'll make sure to order more to take back home with me to the Bay. read more

My bf and I were actually going to the ice cream place nextdoor, but, Pot Pie Co caught our eye and, LET ME TELL YOU... In my 30 long years of life, I have had many pot pies-- chicken, beef, you name it... I've had it. And, I'd consider myself a bit of a pot pie connoisseur. When I say, this was the BEST chicken and beef pot pie me and my bf have ever had, I mean it. If you haven't tried it yet-- you have to. I got the classic chicken with a side of mashed potatoes as well as a sausage roll. The "pop" pie unfortunately lacked a lot of flavor/seasoning. Specifically the pieces of chicken. They were fairly dry and unseasoned and a little over cooked. The pie crust on the other hand was phenomenal. Extremely buttery and flaky. Not sure if my pie had just been sitting for too long or they messed up the chicken but it was a solid 2.5/5 as far as flavor. I would try again to see if I had a bad batch. Also added hot sauce which made it much better. The side of mashed potatoes were really rich and tasted perfect- 5/5 no notes. Highly recommend. The sausage roll was interesting. The sausage mostly just tasted like rosemary and maybe sage? Kind of the only seasoning and only flavor you taste. The meat itself was slightly dry. I topped it with the mashed potatoes to make it not as dry and make the rosemary less over powering. Again the crust was great. I wouldn't get again but some people may like it.
