I usually come here with my husband after we hit the beach. We usually get really good customer service. But whoever was the cashier and other worker today, please remember your customer service. We said "hi how are you" and got nothing.... Oookay. Then we said "one without chocolate please" "okay". Paid said "thank you" and just directly back to her face in her phone without a simple smile or acknowledgment. I get it. It's hot. It's a Sunday. Maybe slower than usual. I need to leave one star because I wasn't able to try it. Want to know why? They literally had only us in line and we got no acknowledgment and had the come back in 30 minute sign shoved in our face. Came here and got the signature strawberry shack shake. It tasted good but not really special - pretty much what you would expect of a combination of strawberry and yogurt. There looked to be some other syrups or chocolate swirled on the sides of the cup but I couldn't really taste it. If I came back I would probably try the strawberry lavender sundae instead because it seems more unique. Service was good - the lids they had were kind of weird shaped and didn't fit on the cups, but the woman at the counter told us that beforehand and apologized for the inconvenience. We got there just before closing.So we weren't able to try everything, but it is so good that we cannot wait to go back tomorrow. I came here expecting a sweet treat, but almost everything on the menu was sold out. I did go later in the day, and there were a lot more people in front of the line than me. There are two standing tables to enjoy the strawberry treat. I got the bowl of strawberry and strawberry shake. Both were reasonably priced with a great portion size. The homemade whipped cream was a great addition to both. I preferred the shake over the bowl of strawberries, which tasted sour on its own. Service was friendly but a bit awkward. When I asked the staff for recommendations, they couldn't really explain the options in any sort of detail. It looked like they were perplexed that I even asked these types of questions. Cute dessert stand with no seating and no restrooms, it's just an order and pick-up window with a couple high tables to stand and eat your treats (though we took it to the beach which was just a few minutes away on foot). Service was standard. It's worth noting, they serve TINY portions foodwise, or they were just incredibly shady on this day and ripped ME off specifically. The strawberry shortcake (with no whipped cream) and strawberry cheesecake topped off with chocolate shards were delish, not super unique but still satisfying in terms of taste. The strawberry lemonade was good too, sweet and refreshing. I wasn't a fan of the vanilla custard base in the milkshake though, I guess I just prefer them made the old fashioned way (or I got a bad batch). For a strawberry shake, it lacked sweetness, too. So we just moved to Carlsbad Village and discovered this cool place, had high expectations for anything strawberry since these are grown locally. The great was the Customer Service by the guy working there, very welcoming, friendly and so so nice. My wife had a strawberry rice crispy treat and it was Meh! Honestly can't expect much from that, I had the strawberry cheesecake and coming from NYC this was not good cheesecake, very dry almost hard and really didn't have any taste and lacked flavor, and I almost can't remember if it even had a crust? very generic at best, would not recommend unless you like frozen pre-made cheesecake texture and flavor. In fact we all tried the cheesecake and all three of us didn't care for it nor finished it and threw it away. Our friend had the strawberry shortcake and this little gem actually we all agreed was the best of all three dessert. Not sure we would go back, nothing was out of this world great that would make us run 4 blocks over to get a treat. Perhaps we would try the shortcake once more to verify why we liked it hahaha. Strawberry Sundae ($7): A bowl of sliced strawberries with strawberry-vanilla custard swirl and whipped cream. The custard was delicious but most of the dish was sliced strawberries (~60%), whipped cream (20%), and custard (20%). Definitely wish the portions of each was more evenly dispersed instead of really just a bowl of strawberries and cream. Would probably go for the strawberry custard in a strawberry waffle cone next time as it was filled with the delicious custard! We were disappointed by our experience, mainly because of the customer service. We ordered desserts for a group of 7 and received two strawberry shortcakes instead of the two strawberry Dole Whips.
