Vanilla ice cream and red bean Taiyaki
    KayAnna S.

Love having a Taiyaki option so close to home, but it's dangerous too because of how good it is! While I do love what I typically order, I have tried a few things that I haven't particularly enjoyed here, but again it's never something I would order in the first place. For example their vanilla ice cream tastes a little watery, but there are just too many interesting flavors for me to try that I wouldn't even think of vanilla. To each their own! At my most recent visit, I ordered the green tea ice cream with a custard filled Taiyaki. My friend ordered the vanilla ice cream with the red bean Taiyaki. We tried to order a Nutella filled Taiyaki by itself on the side, but they confused my order with wanting Nutella instead of custard, so I ended up with just Nutella. Overall my green tea ice cream was absolutely fantastic. Hands down would order this everytime. The Nutella taiyaki was delicious too, but would love to try the custard one in the future. My friend and I didn't like their vanilla ice cream (as described above), but their red bean Taiyaki was perfect. Make sure to come here for a sweet treat pick me up and clarify your order better than I did!

Cute place. Service was average. It was a little wait for only 1 order in front of us. The place is small and quite warm. The ice cream was good. We'll come back when in the area to try other flavors.

Matcha ice cream and Nutella taiyaki

Pretty good dessert spot with quick and friendly service. The Nutella-filled taiyaki was delicious--the waffle batter was rich and well made. The matcha ice cream was just okay; a bit too sweet and lacking that distinct matcha flavor. Overall, a solid dessert experience. Next time, I'd probably stick with the taiyaki and skip the ice cream.

I got the matcha flavor and it was so good. It didn't taste artificial and it has just the right amount of sweetness. The store itself was very cute, the person who took our order was very friendly, and overall I would visit this place again.

    The menu board

The ice cream was fine. If you like ice cream made with hate. The menu was confusing apparently Cap'n Crunch is a flavor tho it is separated in the menu board to where it should be a topping. The girl here at 5 o clock on Wednesday was condescending for not understanding the menu but did nothing to help explain it. She also seemed like we were annoying her for existing in the establishment. It's no wonder we were the only people here. Awful service.

The family and I came here for dessert. There were a good amount of people here on a Sunday evening around 6:45 pm. You will have to find street parking. We ordered the following: - Taro Horchata Taiyaki - Pistachio Rolled Ice Cream - (2) Kit Kat Rolled Ice Cream I enjoyed the Taro Horchata Taiyaki, but my partner thought it was too sweet. The Pistachio rolled ice cream had a sweet and salty flavor. The kiddos liked their Kit Kat rolled ice cream as well but one of our kiddos enjoyed my taro horchata more lol and they probably should've shared their ice cream since they got the same thing. The place is a decent sized dessert place where you can sit and eat your ice cream if there is space. The workers were friendly. It can be entertaining to watch them create the rolled ice cream. You can get to go covers if you don't finish your ice cream. Good overall dessert experience that cost around $39 plus tip for 4.

Handal's line was long so we decided to try this place. Takes a while to make (aka roll) but it was good.

This popular ice cream place is located on the busy Mission Avenue street. It's an easy walk from Oceanside pier. It was pretty busy on a Sunday evening. We came here after dinner. The exterior and interior had fun ocean art. There are tall tables to sit at but it's mostly for takeout. Because they were busy, we weren't greeted when we came in. We stood at the cashier ready to order but again because they were busy the cashier was making ice cream too. There seemed to be only 2 staff working today. My hubby and I shared a small rolled strawberry with crushed oreos on top. It took awhile for them to make it. It is all made to order and there were people ahead of us. The ice cream was good. It's rolled ice cream. Nothing that made me dream of coming back. The prices are high but standard for rolled ice cream.

Food (5/5 stars): Fugu Rolled Ice Cream & Taiyaki is a great dessert spot in Oceanside! This was my first time trying rolled ice cream, and I really enjoyed it! I loved its unique texture and the Cookie Monster flavor was a great call. I'll be back to try their other flavors and Taiyaki! Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: slightly pricey * Wait Time: minimal * Service: good * Parking: street parking can be difficult * Ambiance: it's a simple store

Yay, finally tried the fish cone! Green tea matcha and vanilla soft serve, plus red bean filling, was probably the best thing I could've ordered to fully enjoy this place. It hit the spot for me! I grew up eating red bean paste in pastries and ice cream so to have it in North County brings a smile to my face. I was a little confused with the menu - vegan options are only for rolled ice cream, but not soft serve. The filling is inside the fish cone. I really don't see how eating ice cream in the fish cone by itself is manageable, so their recommended bowl seems to be the only way to go, but good luck if you try the cone solo. The cone is like a waffle cone. They also sell taiyaki with filling by itself - they call it "closed" taiyaki. Our ice cream came out after rolled ice cream orders, whom ordered after us, and it seemed to be that the soft serve was not thick enough for serving yet. We got there around noon. We were patient and thanked for waiting the long wait. I enjoyed it and will come again. There's seating inside.

Excellent service and atmosphere! The ice cream was Fugutastic! #FuguIceCream #buzzybooth

Craving ice cream while walking around in Oceanside downtown? There are three primary options Fugu, ColdStone, and Handle's. Fugu is more conveniently located and has more Asian flavored/style ice cream. Handles and ColdStone are more traditional American flavors. The cones are fish shaped and made fresh. More like waffles. Definitely recommend trying if you like nice light texture ice cream.

We were around Oceanside for dinner and wanted to wrap up with some desserts. Found this place right across and there was a long wait line. I immediately checked the reviews to be prepared and every review mentioned they take 20-30mins and are kind of slow. We knew what to expect and waited for 20 min to place an order and another 20 min to get the order. They have two kinds of menu rolled ice cream and teyiaki soft serve. Rolled ice cream takes longer and Teyiaki is a little faster. We went with chocolate hazelnut for rolled ice cream and mango with Mexican caramel filling for the Teyiaki. They are slow because this ice cream is not premade, it's made fresh and takes time. However, they probably can have more people working. Anyhow, the soft serve is really good and we enjoyed the rolled ice-cream too. The presentation was nice but didn't like the whipped cream or the syrups, the ice-creams in itself was pretty good. The pricing is alright, but the service needs work.

Literally the worst ice cream served in the most frustrating way, taking forever. Save yourself and never subject yourself to fugu!

So, whaddaya do in Oceanside (aka: "O'side", to me at least), after a nice lunch with a Yelp Friend…read moreyou met in person for the first time? Ya knock around on the O'side Beach, making your way slowly toward the famous Oceanside Pier, THAT'S what ya do. I absolutely love The O'side Pier, and try to make time for a trip there, anytime I'm in Escondido. It doesn't make it more difficult that it's the closest place to get to the Pacific, driving from E-town. Google up The Oceanside Pier; it's got quite a history. Ya know how they say: "There's always room for Jell-o"? Well, the same could be said for Italian Ice. Similar to Ice Cream, it contains NO Dairy (in case you're lactose-intolerant), and is simply DELICIOUS! You're not "delicious-intolerant", are ya? Which brings me to Skweezrz New York Italian Ices. "Italian Ice Joe" is set up right at the base of the ramp you walk up, to get onto The Pier itself. Great location; even greater fare. Joe's a really cool guy; I hung around long enough to see how great and easy he is with people of all kinds, be it kids, surfers, the ladies, or that annoying guy that talks your ear off, and just won't LEAVE (uh, that'd be...me). He offers every passer-by a free sample, and I warn ya; if you sample, you WILL buy! Of course, Joe offered me a "free one" (no not "that" kind). Sadly, he was out of my favorite fruit flavor (Cherry), so I had to "settle" for Strawberry; it sure didn't feel like settling. I may eat more Ice Cream than Italian Ice (as a general rule), but I really don't know why. The flavor was AMAZING! Couple that with the fact that it's gotta be lower in calories (something I could do with less of), and has a MUCH fresher finish. Compared to Ice Cream (or even frozen Yogurt), it's a way healthier choice. And it seems to quench your thirst, at the same time it's soothing your mouth with sweet, fruity coolness. Joe's got every flavor under the Sun (tho there was no Sun itself today); all the expected fruits, plus a chocolate flavor Joe sez tastes just like a Tootsie Roll. Or if ya can't decide, have him mix ya up a "Rainbow"; I can't remember if that's what he called it, but you get the idea (I posted a pic of one). Joe's got 'em ALL! It's NOT just getting a cup of frozen stuff; no, it's a whole "experience", it really is. The cool Italian Ice will soothe your mouth and cleanse your palette, and Joe's perpetual good mood is infectious. If you don't leave with a lighter spirit just by hangin' around the guy, you're a lost cause. The Italian Ice will cost ya (tho not very much at all); the uplifting spirit is FREE. If you're in Oceanside, you gotta take a trip to the O'side Pier. Take a walk all the way to the end and have a chat with the Pelicans, but don't get too close (they WILL attack, and I'm not kidding). And above all else, ya GOTTA stop by Skweezrz New York Italian Ice cart, say hi to Joe, and have a cup of frozen cheer. Tell him Larry sent ya! larrythediner .

You cannot drive to this location, but there is tons of parking and you can walk the boardwalk and enjoy some Italian refreshing ice! Their Italian rainbow (cherry, lime, lemon), blueberry, coconut and mango ate all flavors I've tried or sampled and all taste DELICIOUS! Went yesterday and they had something new! Diablito Rica for just $5 and that includes; 3 scoops of mango ice, chamoy, tajin and a tamarindo stick, it was happiness in my mouth! I opted out one scoop of mango for Italian rainbow ice. They didn't skimp on the tajin and chamoy either and you can add the extras to any scoop(s) of Italian ice, if you don't like mango. If you ever find yourself in Oceanside on a hot day and are looking for a refreshing treat, try this place, I promise you won't be disappointed! They are super friendly and their samples are very generous! Enjoy!
