I love Pop Pie and this one is the third one I've checked out since the original one in University Heights a awhile back and I frequent the PB location and have gone to this Carlsbad one a few times. Their classic chicken pie I had on my most recent trip is excellent and very scrumptious from inside fillings to the outside. I also l love their guava cream cheese hand pies, such a sweet treat! I wish I could leave two separate reviews because I have had two different experiences here. Let me start off with the bad. At my latest encounter with this establishment, a few things really rubbed me the wrong way. 1. The person that I heard was the manager absolutely reeked of cigarettes which I think is just not a good look when you are trying to sell food and talk face to face with people. 2. The prices were quite high but that was not too serious for me given the fact that this is the middle of Carlsbad. 3. I ordered the steak and ale pop pie, and from what i've gathered, the general consensus is that this pie is NEVER warm enough to enjoy, and I should have listened to the opinions surrounding that because it was like it was left out for 2 hours on the counter. A 14 dollar room temp meat pie is very disappointing. And 4. the bathroom was absolutely a wreck. Disgusting really. The only enjoyment enjoyment I've had at this establishment was my first time there when i was greeted by a very nice woman, I cannot remember her name but she was an extremely helpful and sweet person to talk to and she had suggested I try a Green Hog and it was definitely a delightful choice to say the least. And she and my wife bonded over their similar sunflower tattoos which was lovely. But unfortunately overall this is establishment definitely has some work to do before I think about coming back, thats for sure. read more

I recently learned about this place and must say I am intrigued! I got the Butter Chicken Pot Pie and oh my! Very unique. I would never think to put something that seems curry based in a Pot Pie. We were instantly greeted as we entered and immediately faced the cold case and hot case of their delicious and buttery crusted Pot Pies. The service was great; and they got our order together fast. I'm not big on sweets, but this one was perfect to share because it's definitely too much for me to finish on my own unless I took it to go. The whole area is really nice too, it's a shared open space with Roosevelt Roasters, Stella, and a brewery, with lots of tables under the trees. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I finally got around to it. There is a good amount of parking nearby both along the street and the parking lot but it will fill up pretty quickly depending on the time of day that you arrive. The shop is nestled in a little Courtyard with a bunch of seating and other restaurants I ended up trying the guava hand pie, the steak and ale pie, and the chicken tikka masala, which is a seasonal flavor. The savory pies were so delicious 10/10 would recommend them either eating them fresh or heating them up at home. The guava hand pie was kind of disappointing it was just okay tasting I wouldn't recommend it. The lady working was nice and with all the seating outside it's a nice place to hang out at. read more

Arriving right before closing, I was looking for a light dinner to satisfy my hunger. When searching on Yelp, up popped Pop Pie!!! Perfect!!! My brain popped up a sensory memory recalling visiting the Normal Heights (?) location having tried the Steak 'N Ale Pie and then my mouth started to water. Drove a little faster and trusted my Maps for the Fastest Direction possible. Sure enough, with 16 minutes to closing, we immediately pulled into the parking lot and there popped up in my view was Pop Pie!!! Entering into the bright and warm room, I was greeted by a kind young lady, dressed warmly with a warm smile and the buttery aroma of pies baking (or being kept warm) that entered into my olfactory senses. My eyes glanced into the warming case to see that there was a limited amount of pies available. I chose the classic chicken pie and the guava cream cheese hand pie (recommended by the helpful pie person) and I decided to bring my treasures back to my hotel to enjoy!!! When I got back to the hotel, the classic chicken pie was still hot. Using my surgical skills, I gingerly cut open and removed the flaky and buttery pie crust to reveal the piping hot goodness inside. The gravy was well seasoned as well as the generous cuts of chicken. The crust was perfectly baked. The Pop Pie People have perfected the savory pie recipe!!! The guava cream cheese hand pie was also delicious. The cream cheese to guava filling was perfect, making the hand pie perfectly sweet. The quaint village mall, perfectly designed with the Carlsbad flair, is where the Pop Pie resides with other eating establishments as well. There's a nice outdoor courtyard with tables and chairs where you can enjoy your meal. Must be pet friendly because there was a sign kindly asking that dogs not to water the plant boxes. Glad we randomly stopped by this pie shop. The chicken pot pie is a must try. The blueberry pie slice was a hit with my son so much so, he had to get another slice. What's great about this place is there's outdoor seating for all the restaurants that are a part of the outdoor food hall. So you can have your pie but also have other food as well. read more

Came in early last week with my sister hoping to snag the Tinola Pie collab with Chef Tara, but it sold out in just 30 minutes! Bummed we missed it, but honestly the yellow curry pie more than made up for it. The filling was incredible and the pie dough itself was chef's kiss. We demolished ours in minutes and I ended up grabbing some to go on the way out. Pop Pie is a small booth but don't let that fool you. Biggie Approved! I always wanted to try this place! Located in Carlsbad Village Pop Pie was pretty amazing! I got lost at Rebel Villa and she directed me to Pop. There's lots of FREE parking. Pop Pie is located in the rear of a cute courtyard like area. The shop itself is beautifully designed. They offer fresh and frozen pies. They only had the lemon curd handheld pie. Let me just say I almost didn't get to eat it because I dropped my bags on the floor and my dogs wanted it. I didn't catch the cashier's name but she was very friendly and sweet. I respectfully request pop pie to not make it's way to Old Town Temecula because I do not want to further engage in big back activities. Pricing was good. I've eaten here a couple of times and I'm always talking about how good it is for at least a couple of hours. It's the perfect amount of food so you feel full but not overly so. Most recently, I had the green hog. Green chili with deliciously tender pulled pork. It was moist, flavorful, had a flaky, crunchy top, and was piping hot. The staff is very friendly and will guide you through the menu, although it's not large. They'll make sure you're getting the exact delicious bite you want. The villages where Pop Pie is located is a super cute area with a handful of different places to eat/drink. It's almost all outdoor seating which is perfect to enjoy the Carlsbad weather. What a wonderful surprise it was to stumble upon this delicious little place. I was in the area grabbing coffee and literally right in front was Pop Pie. I've had it before at a different location so I knew I had to have it again. I wanted everything on their menu! Pop Pie just had their grand opening in Carlsbad Cottages, and if you haven't tried them yet, you need to. Their original location is in University Heights, and I've been counting down the days for the Carlsbad location to open since it's much closer to where I reside. This location didn't disappoint! When I'm craving flaky, buttery, savory pies and the best corn and mashed potatoes, Pop Pie is my go-to spot. Everything is incredibly delicious! Not to mention, they have amazing desserts, from cookies to hand pies and potted options. They also offer vegan & vegetarian choices, like the Vegan Curry Pop Pie (which is delicious), as well as vegan desserts. I ordered the Vegetarian Veggie Pie, while my husband tried the Classic Chicken. We both chose Creamed Corn and Mashed Potatoes as our sides. It was amazing!! For dessert, we had a Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Cinnamon Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. My husband thought the Oatmeal Raisin was too heavy on the cinnamon, but I enjoyed it--probably because I love cinnamon, and he doesn't like it as much. I have to say, their chocolate chip cookie is a solid 10/10. The perfect crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and perfectly balanced with butter, chocolate chips, chunky walnuts, and Maldon sea salt. Pop Pie's chocolate chip cookie is generously sized, and when I requested it heated, it was absolutely heavenly. I've also had it not heated in their other location, but who doesn't prefer a warm cookie? Right? The service was also fantastic, and the Carlsbad location has such a charming atmosphere. Hot Tip: Pop Pie's sister ( ice cream ) company, Stella Jean, is right next door! You can grab some incredible ice cream with the best waffle cones ever. They also have cookies at the ice cream shop. First, the good--the 2 girls that manning the business were amazing! I'd hire them in a minute. Positive, great customer relations skills. Place was clean, products were well presented. They remarked that the crusts were made with butter, and that sealed the deal. They looked very good! I chose the classic chicken and the steak and ale for my son. I have to admit that I'm not really a typical customer, I'm a professional chef that used to make Aussie Style pies, so I know what goes into this. These pies are $12.50 each, so there was a level of expectation with that price. The pie's crust was decent, flaky and had a butter flavor, however it was pretty thick and rather overwhelming the ratio of crust to filling. Unfortunately, I found both fillings to be substandard for the price. The chicken one should have been white meat and they used pearl onions, peas, some celery and too many diced carrots that were not cooked enough. I did not care for the flavor of the sauce either. My son had the steak and ale which was more like an overcooked stew as the beef was a shredded mush. Sorry Pop Pie, I really was hoping to fall in love with your pies as they looked so good. This location offers the same delicious sweet and savory treats as the other locations. If you are unfamiliar with the concept, you can buy whole pies, pie by the slice, hand pies, cookies, quiche, drinks (alcohol too), and so much more. I really enjoy the savory pies. They offer meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. The best way to try different pies is to order by the slice. You can order a slice and add a side (kale slaw, creamed corn).
