I have USAA insurance (which I LOVE) and they have roadside assistance as one of their perks. I made the mistake of "I KNOW I can make it to the gas station with the cheaper gas prices" and ran out of gas on I-35 during morning rush hour traffic on the upper deck I was a little nervous, to say the least.... I called USAA, told them of my lovely blunder and they had pop-a-lock on the way immediately. The awesome chica from pop-a-lock arrives less than 20 minutes later, gas can in hand. However, because I sat there with my radio on and lights on... yeah - dead battery. No worries! Chica saves me again! I heart pop-a-lock! read more

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, Pop-A-Lock. This Monday morning was off to a less than desirable start and you saved the day. I absentmindedly locked my car door and walked away while my purse (containing my electronic key fob) remained sitting in the passenger seat. Ugh! Just when I was on my way to starting my workday early, maybe having a few minutes to myself before my co-workers began to trickle in with their chatty tales from the weekend.... Normally, my super smart nanny car would not have allowed me to lock the door while the fob remained inside and I was outside, but this time, a low battery in the fob allowed my slip-up. What's worse, as soon as I touched the door again, the obnoxious alarm began to blare and proceeded to annoy everyone in a 50 yard vicinity of the garage as it went off every 5 minutes for the next half-hour and masses of my co-workers streamed in to start their weeks. Have you ever had to listen to a car alarm inside a parking garage? This could be an excellent "enhanced interrogation" method to break hardened secret agents. Well, never fear if this should happen to you, even during Monday morning rush hour, Pop-a-Lock will send a nice guy right over to solve your problem for the low-low price of $45. I was skeptical that they could really meet their estimated 30 minute arrival time (you ever tried hurrying anywhere on 360 between 8 and 9am?), but they were true to their word. Nice touch, the locksmith called when he was on his way, and called again when he arrived. Mr. Niceguy drove right up to the car and calmly dealt with this anxious lady in a very kind and professional manner. It took longer to fill out the paperwork (mostly collecting info & signatures to prove that this is really my car and I really give permission for him to enter it) than it did for him to gently break into my car without damaging a thing. You'd been conscious of the fact that your battery was about to turn three, and you knew you needed to get it replaced before your big cross country move, but you thought you had a little more time. Thank gawd you pay for roadside assist through USAA. They call Pop-A-Lock to your location, a gas station, and text you a locator link so you can watch your knight in armor gallantly arrive. His name is Kevin and, despite being in east Round Rock and you being at Spicewood Springs and 183, arrives in record time like The Flash. He gets you jumped (not the naughty way, guys -- we were in public) in mere seconds. You say you'll probably have to wait until the next morning to get a battery replacement since it's Sunday and no repair shops are open. Kevin tells you, to your surprise, that Advanced Auto Parts across the street will replace your battery right there in the parking lot. So you drive the short drive, and within another five minutes, you have a new battery in place. Simplest thing ever. I wish I could do it every day. No, no really. read more

My husband truck got a flat went through Geico to have someone come out, this company supposedly sent someone out after an hour call the number of the driver he lied and said I was there an hour ago.. LIE!! My husband had been out there since 1015am. Driver then he was in the middle of the street looking for your house and couldn't find it.. well surprise there's only 2 built houses on our street. He then says I have other calls that he has to take call and reschedule.. WTH!!! The only reason it gave 1 star was cause that's the only way you can do a review otherwise it would be a negative .. I am sitting in the rain in the dark 5 mos pregnant locked out of my house. I called Pop a Lock to request service, was told someone would arrive in 30 minutes, and never received an update. I called back 30 minutes later and was told the technician got caught up on another job and would be another 35 minutes. Then, the tech sent me a text asking for a photo of the lock on the house. I sent it and asked if he needed anything else and he replied to say no, he didn't, but he needed to go to another job first and had just been pulled over so it would be quite a while. I am crying and miserable and waiting on Urgent Lock and Key to come save the day because Austin Pop a Lock certainly did nothing to help. 2 thumbs way down. read more

Requested for a jump through my insurance for a vehicle that I just purchased and the battery had dead on me. About half hour later some dirty hillbilly shows up with a bad attitude, never got out of his vehicle and refused to jump my car saying that it was not the car on my policy. Very wicked fella, started arguing and shouting at me, using profanities. I had to hang up on him and call me insurance who confirmed that I can get another vehicle jump started other than the vehicle on my policy, apologized and dispatched another service provider who did it without question. Who refuses to jump start a stranded person in a baking Texas sun? And I'm paying this idiot through my insurance. People like with a heart filled with hate and completely deficient of all human compassion end up homeless and wonder why no one will ever help them. read more

I love this service. I have had numerous good experiences with them. However, the technician that was sent to respond to my Roadside Assistance request was at the bare minimum, somewhat efficient. He did not check the air in my donut, even after I requested he do so. He looked at it & said it was fine. He refused to assist with returning items to my trunk after he was asked to do so. I unloaded the trunk before he arrived. He not only refused, he didn't even acknowledge my request. The level of customer service was bare minimum. I would have thought as a lady he would have at least had the level of respect to help me and not make me lift all of those objects with my friend. Next time I will go with AAA. read more

Absolutely incredible service. My buddy had his keys in the ignition with the AC running, as he'd just put his kid in the carseat... but then the door clicked and he was locked out. After going at it for awhile with coat hangers we gave up, still kinda panicking about the kid even though he was safe for the time being. Once the technician showed up he got the door open easily and told us the service was on the house since a child was involved. Horrible service I requested service through my Uconnect service which they were friendly, the pop a lock tech drove by and said that it was unsafe to put gas in my car. I needed to get out of this area in the first place so they still have me on bad area. Also they didn't want a disable person to get out of a unsafe area. read more

Got Flat Tire and lugs nuts were TOO tight. Geico Road service request sent to Pop a Lock. Took about an hour or so but guy came and was able to get the tire off. Sadly spare DID NOT fit (had body wheel/work last year and body shop swapped spare by mistake). Check your spare once a year! Pop a Lock guy called it in and a tow truck dispatched by another company. Service depends on who is sent and experience level. I had a GOOD guy. Most people want to do a good job but it is STRESSFUL when you are having car problems and they can pick up on your stress. Being upset/angry will not get your car fixed and your brain will shut down on options. I have learned that the hard way in other situations. :) Stay Safe. K read more

Why 1 star. They were able to unlock my car however in doing so the guy broken a trim piece. This was during the holidays, rainy weather. The trim piece was black gross and runs between the door and fixed door frame. The pressure was applied to this trim piece to pry the window to allow space to enter the vehicle to release the lock. I heard a snap sound which startled me and asked what it was. I got no response. Never did I think the kid would not say what he did. read more

With some bullshit tracker for the driver that hasn't moved since I clicked the link 10 minutes ago.. Ok so the guy shows up and is rude af. Friday, October 15th, 2010. 4:30 PM. I've done 2 hours at the gym, had a massage, and made my appointments. I'm rocking my skinny Dior jeans and my black cherry ostrich skin cowboy boots. I'm gonna make it on time to my work party downtown at Molotov, then hang with my gays. I mean, it was so on. I stop in at the Walgreen's by Cool River to pick up some smokes. I cheerfully wish the eighth grader working the register a good weekend, and I start to open my car. Keep in mind, I haven't been able to remotely unlock my BMW (henceforth named Kar, there's a story behind it but it's not very interesting) for around a year since the battery died, and I never bothered to spend $200 on a new key. As I turn the key, the lock breaks. I move the key back and forth, and the door remains locked. I tug on the handle. Panic starts to set in. I'm locked out. How could this be worse, you ask? This was the ONE time I left my cell phone inside Kar, because I figured I wouldn't need it. My work briefcase sat calmly next to the phone, which by this time had started ringing with friends calling to see where I was. I'm freaking. Not really knowing what to do, I use the phone at the photo station to call BMW Austin. The woman insists on dialing herself, even though she kept messing up the number. This was just all kinds of disastrous. I finally get the BMW receptionist on the line, who tells me that there's nothing they can do because the service department was closed. She also added that new keys take days to order. On the upside, she gave me the number for Pop-A-Lock. The woman who answered the phone at Pop-A-Lock was two things: 1.) Friendly; and 2.) Sympathetic. She ascertained that my make and model could be serviced, and when I found out it was, I heaved my first sigh of relief. She said a guy would be out within half an hour. A mere 15 minutes later, a mustached guy who looks suspiciously like the guy on Mythbusters, came to the rescue. After taking my information, he asked if before he began the process of going through the door to get to the inside lock, if I could open the trunk. I said yes, so I did. He punched down Kar's back seats, crawled inside, and hit the lock from the inside, unlocking the door. "That'll be $46.50, please." I'm a total f***ing idiot. read more

Lessons learned on 4-18-08: 1:30 a.m. -- Sometimes slamming into a curb when you hydroplane is not just slamming into a curb. Sometimes it's LOUD. 1:40 a.m. -- That giant slash in my tire is NOT going to be fixed with a can of Fix-A-Flat. 1:50 a.m. -- My mommy can't save me. 1:55 a.m. -- My insurance company puts me on hold for much less time when I call in the middle of the night! 2 a.m. -- My insurance (Progressive, which really did have the lowest rates for an accident-free under 25-year-old like me!) includes ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. Yay! 2:05 a.m. -- Popalockaustin, as the computer-assisted voice says it, will be assisting me. "The ETA is forty-five minutes," it drones. 2:45 a.m. -- Forty-five minutes seems like a very long time when you're in a cold car in a storm and your roof is leaking. The guy at Pop-A-Lock is very helpful when I call to ask where his person is. He contacts her via radio, and I can overhear their conversation on the phone. He's polite when I put him on hold. Five more minutes, I'm told. 2:55 a.m. -- The address 601 N. Lamar isn' t known to everyone. The Pop-A-Lock woman is at Waterloo, unsure of where I could be. I am at BookPeople across the street, and so is she, shortly. 3 a.m. -- This woman is pretty good at her gig. With a little assist from me (momma said not to get out of the car at all, but I'm a bad girl who offered to hold up the flashlight in the rain so the woman could use both hands), she's got the operation going in no time. 4 a.m. -- Do NOT touch the metal part of an air pump that plugs into your cigarette lighter. You will get burned. 4:15 a.m. -- I can drive home on slick roads on a spare. Go me! (intermission for calming down, sleeping, buying a new tire (YAY for Discount Tire's replacement warranty!!!), etc.) 4:28 p.m. -- I'm going to make it to work on time!THUMP! 4:30 p.m. -- My booty was not meant for this world. My keys, my phone, my work badge, and my insurance card are in my car. I am not. Dumb butt! 4:35 p.m. -- My office's security guard kicks some bootay himself. He tries to get a bicycle cop to come help me, then looks up Progressive's phone number for me. It's their new customer line, as I can't get the customer service line without my insurance card. 4:50 p.m. -- My insurance company puts me on hold more often in the middle of the day, but they'll still be happy to send a helpful person on my way. The company that will be helping me is Pop-A-Lock, again. 5:45 p.m. -- The Pop-A-Lock staff is limited. And good-humored. The same woman is helping me again. I'm cracking up that the poor lady has to help me twice in one day -- more so because I pity the woman for working so much! 5:50 p.m. -- The little air baggie mechanism is magic. I get my car opened, rescue my stuff, sign my slip, issue multiple "THANK YOU SO MUCH"es, and I'm done and ready to spend 7 more hours ... at work. IN SHORT: They're prompt, friendly and effective. The kid, I shouldn't have paid better attention to his name - did a good job. Took almost exactly an hour, which sucked, and needed full access to the inside of my car, which sucked. If I had actually been stranded on the side of the road, I would have probably gotten annoyed. HOWEVER, since he was extremely polite and helpful and straightforward with me, and since I was at work and could just go inside instead of stand there like a worthless female while he did all the work - it was actually a good experience. He changed out my tire for the spare and loaded the flat tire and wheel into the bed of my truck for me. He was new, he'll get the hang of it. If I were in a bind again, I'd happily call these folks. read more

Yep, that's what happened. The whole process sounded like he was rummaging through nuts and bolts and generally destroying my car door, and then he just GAVE UP. He just left it there. He told me that someone would have to come take my door panel off to get it out the next day. He gave me a number to call. So, I called the number today, and they told me, "Wow, ya know, you live all the way on Manchak. If you could get up to Round Rock we could take care of ya, or even just anywhere north of Parmer. It's just, if we drive all the way down there we'll get behind and other people might have to wait." Ummm, cool. Stepped out to grab a burger for lunch and wouldn't you know it, there were my keys sitting on the front seat of my car. Classic Walker (last time I left my keys on someone's bumper and they drove away. Don't ask. This situation was definitely better than that one!) Pop-a-lock was called by my emergency roadside service and I'm glad they did. Will #423 called to tell me he'd be a little later than estimated, but he would be with me as fast as he could (and even read me his GPS reading to let me know how long). He then called when he was ten minutes out. He was professional and educational, it was barely a five minute exchange but thoroughly enjoyable. Will was very friendly and a perfect buddy to have during what could have been a stressful situation. I also felt better about my situation when he let me know it was 98 call of the day. Guess I'm not the only idiot in town! Important note: This company will unlock cars and home if there is a child inside for FREE. Super cool. Will said they typically beat the fire department. You know the celebratory and successful feeling of keeping a fast and rambunctious toddler alive and out of the way of oncoming traffic, while unloading an entire car full of things? Feeling accomplished after getting everything and everyone safely inside, and THEN realizing that didn't include the car keys or the baby's diapers? I emailed Pop-A-Lock for a quote, since the instant quote page on their website was down. Jasper emailed me back within twenty minutes a price of 49.95/30 minutes. $50 is more than I'd like to pay, for that I could just pick up a new key, however I understand wanting to pay employees decently. I also feel appreciative that according to their website, if your child is locked in the car they will provide emergency unlocking services at no charge. Fortunately, I have roadside assistance attached to my insurance - they also called Pop-A-Lock, who has two stations near where I happened to be. A very friendly guy named Adam arrived in less than seven minutes, and had the car unlocked the car in two! I feel pleased with the quick and easy service! read more

The number one street where shit happens in most cities is Martin Luther King Blvd. I once got caught in the middle of a riot on MLK in Austin -- complete with gunfire and riot cop squad -- because a friend locked her keys in her trunk in a shady area. Second place of shit-happening streets goes to Cesar Chavez, which is where I locked my keys in my trunk the other day. Though it was in the middle of the day next to a beautiful old victorian home, it still brought back fond memories. This time, I didn't have to duck behind a battered Buick LeSabre while waiting for the PopALock guy to come. It was actually pretty cool, because I got a chance to stand on the street corner and take in that East Austin vibe which I rarely get to stop and appreciate... people at bus stops looking hot as hell, or some dude with crazy eyes and no shirt walking his equally crazy-eyed dog. Or that one shady looking guy rolling down the street in his chevy looking all suspicious...oh wait, that's the popalock guy! Hey, over here! Only took him 20 minutes to arrive, and took just a few seconds to jimmy my door open, and I was on my way. Lesson: When parking on streets named after minority leaders, CHECK THAT YOU HAVE YOUR KEYS. read more

I've used this service on more than a couple occasions. And every time they've been on time or early. And very knowledgeable about auto lock outs. It's kinda fun to watch the technique. So - I called my roadside assistance through my insurance for help changing a flat tire on my small SUV out in Buda. They sent out pop a lock. They were 30 minutes later then their scheduled arrival time - but, things happen and I can deal with that - annoying but not the end of the world. Then, the guy arrives and starts to change my tire and says to me, "where's your wrench to lower your spare?" I said, "isn't it in the back of the car?" - He proceeds to tell me that's its not in the back of the car and I should check under the seats because he can't change the tire without it. I look under the seats - its not there. I ask if he has something he can use, since, afterall, he is roadside assistance. He tells me there isn't anything he can do except call me a tow truck. I tell him, okay, I guess if thats what I have to do then thats what I have to do so to call me a tow truck 'but' is he sure the wrench is not in the back, he says, "yes -it would be in the side wall pocket if you had it". Then instantly - in a speed that would break Olympic Records, he jumps in his car and peels out of my neighborhood (flat tire happened at my house). I turn around, look in the back of the car, pull up the rug covering, open the (very easy to see if you are looking) compartment and, viola, like magic there is a wrench to lower the spare, and believe it or not even a jack. I immediately run out to the road to see if he is gone but of course, by now, since its been 2 minutes, he is probably in Round Rock and all I see is the dust kicked up from his tires. I have to call my insurance company back again, restart the roadside assistance call - this time with a new company. I also call pop a lock directly - mainly to tell him not to send a tow truck...and they have no call out for my car for a no tow truck - how nice of him to say he is calling a tow truck and then not even bother. Lesson for pop a lock - if they guy can't find a wrench in the back of a small SUV then he shouldn't be sent to change tires. End of Story - avoid this company. read more

The wait at first was 35 min for a dispatch, not bad at all, but the dispatchers sent the servicemanback when he was a minute from my location because my location specification was slightly off- under the freeway instead of beside it. The next dispatch was going to take 45 min, supposedly. I called after 45 min and was told it was going to be another hour and I should find another providor. By this time my phone was nearly dead.
