We had dinner here a couple of weeks ago and it was delicious. We started with the potatoes confit with a slightly spicy vegetable aioli. We both loved it. For dinner I had the hangar steak which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It came with arugula purée and frites. My dining partner had the chicken with French dumplings which were very airy on the inside and browned on the outside. The chicken dish came with a sauce, carrots and peas and resembled a pot pie. The vegetables were tender but still toothsome. We both loved the rolls sprinkled with coarse salt that came with the meal. For dessert we both had the chocolate mousse with bourbon caramel and crisped rice. Unfortunately, I've forgotten the name of our server but he was friendly without hovering. Perfect. Poor Hendrix is a fun spot in an often neglected corner of Atlanta. We came here for a friends birthday party on the lively back patio, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Although the set-up was a little awkward for our exceedingly large group, the service was extremely attentive and accommodating for our difficult crowd. We ordered many things for the table, but we tried the delicious, double-battered fries with an elevated, homemade ranch dipping sauce and the very tasty butter bean hummus- I was literally scraping it off the place with my fork. The only downside was the cauliflower- the flavor was absolutely on-point but it was little dry. We can't really comment on the cocktail menu, as we had the beer and shot combo, but our fabulous waiter was accommodating enough to switch out the normal bourbon it comes with to tequila for us, which was much appreciated. Overall, this a good place for elevated food and drinks, with an unpretentious, friendly neighbor vibe. Enjoy! read more

Decidedly average. Wine was served in the same tiny glass that water was served in...made it look and feel like a children's portion of grape juice. I also tried the punch cocktail, which wad light, tasty and refreshing. I had the "French dumplings" which were similar to gnocchi but more mushy, with tomato sauce. Would have been a more interesting dish with addition of some veggies (or meat option for those who aren't vegetarians). I left hungry and my wallet quite a bit lighter, needing to go somewhere else for a second dinner. Service was ok- wait staff was very eager and constantly checked in on us, to the point where she interrupted multiple conversations. The restaurant is tiny with limited seating so expect to be hurried along so you can give up your table to the next party. Nice neighborhood option if you live nearby, but I probably wouldn't come out of my way. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Everything we ordered was superb. The quality of the meat, flavors, and spices were served to perfection. I had the trout and although I'm not a fish lover it completely won me over. Apparently the menu changes every week, which is nice to be able to try different things. We had a great experience here last night all around - drinks, food, service, atmosphere, etc. For starters, I love the location and the neighborhood feel. It gives it that hidden gem allure, although with an hour wait I'd say it's not exactly hidden! (Note: the wait only ended up being about 15 minutes and the bar made it feel like 3) Food-wise, we ordered: Hot Absinthe & hatch chili salami French dumplings in a warm tomato sauce w/ manchego Hanger steak with butter chimichurri & fries Trout with butternut squash purée & onions The dumplings and the trout were two of the best dishes I've had in Atlanta, I thought they were both superb. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and had a nice char to it, though I thought the chimichurri was a little lackluster. The fries that came with it were also delicious. The salami was also solid, though it was difficult to pick up any hints of absinthe or hatch chili. It seems like they like to keep the menu consistent in the types of protein/entree but that they vary the style in which it's prepared. E.g., dumplings with tomato sauce one time, then brown butter the next time. I wish we had a chance to try some of the bar snacks - there were several that caught my eye, and everything was so reasonably priced! Same goes for the pricing on the restaurant menu - love how cheap everything was and still portioned out generously - huge plus. Next time, we'll plan for some bar snacks and hopefully save some room for dessert. read more

Poor Hendrix is the real deal. They have only been open less than a year and they are here to stay. Late night hang or close by escape with wifey. Bar OR restaurant, take your pick. The bar menu is great with small plate. Go a head and just order 2 grilled cheese sammy, you will any way. Oh man. There are lots of small plate options at the bar. The bar service is well done. We are so happy to have Poor Hendrix right down the road from us. We've been waiting for them to open and man, was it worth the wait. Sesame soy quail eggs. My favorite part of our anniversary dinner. (But if something is marinated in soy sauce, please don't sprinkle it with salt) The salmon tartar served with a bag of kettle chips was also amazing! So flavorful yet light. We enjoyed the hot smoked trout and my husband LOVED his grilled bread with ricotta. I wouldn't order the lamb skewers again. I assumed when i ordered it that it would be like a kabob with lamb chunks, but it was a ground meat patty. It wasnt bad, but it wasn't what i expected and the dipping sauce was so salty I couldn't use it. The finale was worth the wait. The coffee creme brulee was perfection. The vanilla bean flecks didn't go unnoticed. Some would forego the vanilla since it was coffee flavored. Poor Hendrix knew better. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be back. Soon. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is a few items were a bit salty and we would have preferred to have eaten in the dining room but from the bar menu. My husband and I stopped in today for some dinner. When we walked in it was unclear whether you seat yourself or wait to be seated. After standing there awkwardly with no one acknowledging us we took seats at the bar. Once we sat down a brunette bartender came over to greet us, and took a drink order. We each ordered beer which she dropped off with some food menus fairly promptly. From there service was very lax bordering on neglect. There were 3 people other than us at the bar so by no means busy. I believe the bartender was pregnant so maybe it was just a rough day but 2 others employees kept coming behind the bar making drinks. Basically, customers at the bar outnumbered the people working behind the bar by 2. The bartenders walked by where we sat many times going about their business which apparently did not include getting a food order from us. Finally, I saw the other female bartender ask the one who had given us drinks if our food order had been taken. We were staring right at them with menus in our hand so it would seem evident that we had not ordered. The other female bartender came over to take our order. We ordered Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, bulgogi steak skewers, chicken liver pate, and garlic Parmesan chicken wings. The Brussels sprouts were perfectly done, a little crispy and the sauce was delicious. The sweet potatoes were a definite winner, steak sticks were very tiny. The chicken liver pate was silky and rich served on toasted bread. Chicken wings are decent but nothing particularly special. I think we would give them another shot and sit at a table. There were other menu items that sounded worth going back for. I did like the space itself, it was cozy and inviting. Even if the staff wasn't the friendliest or attentive. Perhaps the service would be better in the dining room. read more

Our first time to this new neighbor addition. Nice bar, decent beer and wine selection. Had a cocktail prior to dinner. Interesting that there is a bar menu and a dining room menu, and you can only order on the one where you are located. Limited dinner menu with about 4-5 entrees. The four of us had the cauliflower app. Not bad. 3 of us order the fried trout and I had the roasted chicken. Three of us gave it an overall "B" with the the other given it an A. Excellent service, small but adequate dining area. Will definitely go back, may sit at the bar and try the bar menu, which appeared to mainly be small apps. read more

Great people, great food... We have been watching Jamie and Aaron lovingly restore the space at 2nd and Hosea for the past four months and the results were worth waiting for! The food, service and atmosphere were all exceptional. We ended up trying all three appetizers- the grilled bread with house made ricotta and tapenade, a simple yet thoughtful salad of mixed lettuces, pickled beans and shaved cheese, and the soppressata and cornichons. Everything was incredible but the grilled bread was especially outstanding. For an entree we shared the French dumplings (similar to gnocchi, but flour based instead of potato based). I can't really do this dish justice by describing it- there were sweet potatoes, there were mushrooms, there was butter and honey with Thai chiles- is this their signature dish? If not, it absolutely should be. It was epic. We enjoyed a coffee creme brûlée for dessert, which was rich and smooth and perfectly torched- everything a creme brûlée should be! Since they are new and their liquor license has not yet been approved, they are temporarily BYOB- so take advantage of it while the going is good! All of the staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or a dinner with friends. We'll be back soon! read more

It's always been a dream of mine to have a great local bar I can walk to, but I never imagined it would also have a phenomenal kitchen. I can come here to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders and other locals, or sit out back and have a fantastic meal, and I think that's about the most you can ask for from a local bar. read more

Eaten there twice. the place is very small so not sure why they have 2 menus will not let u eat from restaurant in the bar even tho you are 20 feet away from each other. also beer choice if you don't like craft is not so good. Food choices are FooFoo food only not that it is bad but it just all they have . the attitude of "this is the way we do things" to bad is not a inviting one. with all the choices in the area I doubt I will be back for my 3 rd trip. read more

Came here early on a Monday evening. We got seated by the window. Lucky me, I live just five minutes away. We ordered mushroom, shrimp and lamb skewers, and oysters to start. Consistently the best food and service pre and post Covid. Highlights are the okra and Shishito peppers, wings, sweet potatoes and feta, grilled cheese, fried chicken picnic meal...ok we apparently like the whole menu. Dog friendly, lgbtq friendly, very clean and owners are often working alongside staff, which is nice to see. Friendly service every time. Tonight was my second time at this neighborhood gem; sat at the bar again, first time having food. Wow. Ordered the shishito & okra, cold noodles, homemade ricotta, and the lamb skewers. As we were contemplating what to order, I must say we were a wee bit skeptical- there were Southern bites, Asian, and contemporary American bar options, for lack of a better word, so we wondered if they'd be able to pull off so many flavors. Boom. We could not have been more impressed - flavorful, eclectic, and generously sized. Four small plates totaled $23, a steal and our two tummies were content. So, this is not a place to go for DINNER dinner. It's tapas light at best. Like, their steak skewers were only two and tiny. Shrimp skewers - again, two moderately sized shrimp. The food is delicious and their house cocktails are lovely, but don't go if you're expecting a meal - it's more of a 'Hey, try this!'. This is the place to go for top-notch appetizers before you actually eat. And ignore the menu online; it changes bi-weekly. I knew none of this going in, mind you and was *hangry* as a result. My husband and I went here for dinner last night after searching menus for about an hour. He and I are doing Keto and try not to eat carbohydrates, ie. pasta and rice. After we decided we were just going to have 'cheat' and that was that, I found Poor Hendrix on Yelp. Their menus were always different which told us the chef is adaptable and creative. This is beneficial when you have to ask for "this with this but not this and please substitute this for this" kind of thing. When we got there, we were handed two menus to choose from; one for the bar and patio and another for the dining room. We were pleasantly surprised when there was a super low carb entree on the dining room menu. I enjoyed the pan seared salmon and a citrus fennel salad with a cilantro vinaigrette. He had the steak and shrimp skewers. We shared Old Bay cauliflower which was amazing; not sure how we'll be able to ever enjoy it steamed again! The server was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The server was cold in his response. With a stoney gaze I was told I could only order from the Restaurant menu on "the restaurant side." I was not offered a suggestion. I was given a "tough luck attitude." I had my heart set on an item from the bar menu. After waiting 45 minutes I expected more from the kitchen on the other side the wall from me. They could use more seating inside although I'm not sure the limited space would allow for it and the large patio outside makes up for it. The staff are very attentive and happy to give recommendations. The drink menu is excellent. We sat at the bar so our menu consisted mostly of small bites; I'm not sure how the portion sizes are on the restaurant menu. The prices were moderate and definitely worth the quality. The food was great, especially the fish skins (never thought I would love these so much) and the lamb skewers. Parking was easy too. Highly recommend if looking to hang somewhere off the beaten path while also supporting local business. read more

The place was smaller than I thought from the outside. They have small portions so don't come with an appetite unless you're ready to spend $60-100 bc you'll want to order everything on the small plates and then you still want an entree. Everything was delicious though. The grilled cheese was ahhhh-mazeeee-ingggg and I didn't expect the cauliflower to be oooo soo yummi-licous. I also had the hanger steak, fries and salad and I swear to you, it was the best salad and fries I've ever had. The steak was great but idk why the salad and fries surprised me, but I guess it's the simple things that goes a long way. For the drinks tho, I'm pretty sure there's other bars that can serve you stronger cocktails. Lol read more
