Boxcar is one of those places that stays busy mostly because of the location. It's right along the BeltLine, easy to get to, and parking is relatively convenient, which makes it a natural stop if you're already walking the trail or spending time in the area. It's typically packed, especially when the weather is nice. As far as the food goes, it's okay. Nothing bad, but also nothing I've had here has ever really impressed me. I usually just grab the fries when I'm there because they're easy and consistent. The biggest draw for me is really the location more than the menu. It works well for a casual stop, a drink, or a quick bite before or after walking the BeltLine. Convenient, lively, and well located, but the food itself is nothing to write home about. read more

We were looking for a place to grab brunch and came across this place. Free 2 hour parking was the first thing that caught my attention The atmosphere is pretty casual. My friend got The margarita while I opted for an espresso martini. Both drinks were good. We both got burgers shared hush puppies and fries. The decor is really the cherry on top for this place. I don't know how, but it gives casual and rustic while still feeling a little cute and classy. I went for date night, but I would also still come back for happy hour with my girls. It already has a creative menu with great drinks. I hope they keep the pineapple cider on the beer list for a long time because it is delicious. My favorite dish so far has been the fish & chips, but I have my eyes on that crab cake for next time. Boxcar is a fab staple for me. It was my bro's first time going so of course I picked the location. Parking was available in the lot out front and they have a scan code at the front desk for parking. It was free for the first two hours. This spot is literally right off of the beltline and is a sight to see. The food is AMAZING. We opted for cocktails and beer, Brussels sprouts and the balsamic glaze TOP TIER. my brother doesn't eat meat and he was thrilled to see awesome choices available to him on the menu. So I got to enjoy the best of both worlds, veggies anddddd my meats lol. I ordered the shank and potatoes with veggies like zucchini and it was DELICIOUS. This is a good place to go if you don't have specific or high expectations for food. The inside is casual and spacious. The servers are always sweet and friendly. The food is hit or miss for me though. The first time I think I got a burger? And a side of fried okra. The okra was just meh. It was crispy enough but no seasoning, and the breading only half covered the pieces. The burger was fine. But my friend got a salmon croquette burger and hushpuppies and they tasted great. Another time I went on my own and got the salmon bowl. I asked for them to not use the sauce and to give me a side of an alternate sauce. When it came it was just salmon on a bed of rice and some shaved carrot pieces. didn't seem like much of a bowl at all. And, the salmon was dry/overcooked. I'd come again, but I would pick a sandwich or burger to stay safe lol. read more

I've eaten here twice now, which I feel is enough to review it fairly. I will be honest, I don't come here for the food, I come here for Hop City, I like trying different craft beers. I came here one Saturday afternoon, ordered a beer flight and the pretzel bites with "homemade cheese" because I was starving...uhhh yeah, not very good. They tasted like they were frozen and then defrosted. Barely any salt. Cheese was weird, just not good. Second time I came on a Saturday night. I ordered "the heatwave" burger...Beef patty pepper jack, smoked jerk bbq, roasted jalapenos, sugar-cured bacon, bibb lettuce, tomato, shaved onion, toasted potato bun, jerk sauce omitted. It was really good, for sure. But a $15 burger should come with fries. An extra $6 for fries with my burger?!?! Nah, now you're insane. Atmosphere is a good vibe. Service is great. I took a gamble on whether tomato, cheese watermelon, and mint should be combined. I ordered it from the selections of salads and don't add any meat. Boy did that gamble pay off. The plate is crunchy, juicy, sweet, and tangy. It comes with balsamic dressing and mint. Add the mint in small bits it can be overpowering. As a side I also ordered 5 jerk BBQ wings. Not as crispy as I wanted but tasty and a good pairing. For $23 I'll get the same combo again and try another wing flavor. The exterior patio is small and looks out onto a parking lot. But in great weather a patio is always a plus. I can't speak to service from the waiters because I didn't dine in. The to go process however was easy. read more

One of my favorite places on the west side beltline! I don't eat beef or pork so finding a good chili is tough. But their turkey chili is delicious! Good drinks too. Large assortment of beer, wines, and cocktails. Great service for all the staff. I came here on a Thursday for a fun wine tasting & then came on game day Sunday. The restaurant looked to be only an upstairs area (correct me if I'm wrong), but pretty easy to find if you park in the large outdoor parking area and follow the signs. The service was great and our waitress was very attentive. The food came out, kind of slow, but we ordered appetizers so we had something to hold us over. As for the food itself, it was OK. I got these steakhouse burger. It tasted like your ordinary burger with caramelized onions that you could get from your local diner. My complaint is that none of the burgers or sandwiches came with the side even though they were all averaging about $16. To add a side, it cost an additional $6. The appetizers were almost a better price for a meal in my opinion. Overall, fairly good experience, but I wouldn't choose to return here unless someone else requested it! read more

I might be a little late discovering this spot--was texting a friend about the restaurant and the area, and he let me know it's actually been here for about three years... go figure! Boxcar is located in the West End near the AUC. Just exit off Lowery Blvd, take a left, and keep going until you hit the newly paved Beltline on White Street. I was genuinely surprised by all the new development and branding in the area. After dining, I took a quick 10-minute drive around and noticed a ton of new apartments and mixed-use developments, many of them right on the Beltline or just a short walk away. This neighborhood definitely feels like it's on track to become the next Old Fourth Ward in the next 5-7 years. As for Boxcar itself--an easy 5 stars. It has a great vibe and feels like it could be the Westside's answer to New Realm. There's a spacious patio, several areas that look ideal for private events, and a solid menu of elevated bar food. Think huge chicken tenders, stacked burgers, a flavorful tequila flight, and a wide selection of beers. The service was great, and the atmosphere was relaxed but lively--definitely a place I'd recommend checking out if you're exploring the Beltline. read more

Guess who went out for Valentine's Day??? Yes... ME! LoL.. After a day of shopping, Carmen and I decided to grab dinner from Boxcar. As I had never been, she was excited to take me to what has become her local fav for Wine Down Wednesday and I was in for the journey. Pulling up to Boxcar, the parking area was jumping, however, there was still ample parking. Once parked, we got out and headed to the restaurant. As we wanted to do the dine-in vibe we went upstairs. Once inside we were greeted by the host and he was all smiles and amazing customer service. He asked if we had a reservation which we did not so he advised it was about a 25-minute wait. Not too bad for a peak hour VDay walk-up. Nonetheless, we opted to go downstairs to the bar area and eat there. The ambiance of Boxcar is super dope. I can see why the locals love it so much. It has this multi-purpose feel to it as there is the restaurant, the bar, and the liquor store-esque area. This is def the place to be for a moment setting dinner... Once at the bar, the bartender (female) greeted us and provided us with a menu. She was super nice and immediately was ready to take our drink order as we were prepared. You know I ordered the Sweet Tea, however, once she told me it would be a moment as she had to go upstairs to get it, I opted to just get a Ginger Ale. Taking a moment to cruise the menu I decided to get Wings as my Appetizer and the "Yellow Jacket" which is described as Fried chicken breast, hot honey mustard, crispy onion straws, bibb lettuce, tomato, and toasted potato bun as my Entreé. Babeeeeeeeee... This description had me in a chokeHOLD. LoL I placed my order and enjoyed the ambiance as I awaited its arrival. The Wings were up quickly and were ahhhhhhhmazingggggggggg. They were fried to perfection. They were a perfect size and the Whiskey BBQ Sauce has changed my entire lifeeeeeeee! When I say Finger Licking Good... I mean FINGER LICKING GOOOOODDDD.. The Wings were Wangannnnn and the Sauce was Saucinnnnnnnn!!!!! Whew. The wait for my entreé wasn't too long, however, when my order arrived, it was NOT the Yellow Jacket... I looked at the plate in disbelief as I was hungryyyyyyyyyy... At this point, the male bartender, Oscar, came over to check on us. I advised him of what I ordered vs. what was in front of me and he checked the system and had to input my order correctly and take the wrong order back. It was apparent that what I ordered wasn't what was entered into the system. As such, I had to wait another 10 minutes for my food. Though Oscar was super nice and apologized for the extended delay, the young lady who took my order said nothing. Furthermore, not only did she not say anything, but somehow she never checked on us again at all. Huge shout out to Oscar for stepping in and providing stellar service. Once the Yellow Jacket came it was truly a life-changing experience... Let's talk the Dish! a) The Fried chicken breast was fried to golden, juicy perfection. b) I don't like Honey Mustard, however, the Hot Honey Mustard at Boxcar is a game changer. I have no idea who or how they make this but hunniiiiiiii this sauce is a sauceeeeeeeee. c) The crispy onion straws took the sandwich from a 10 to a 20. LoL! I love a good crispy onion straw and these did not disappoint. d) I don't know what bibb lettuce is but it was crunchy and bombbbbbbb. e) The tomato added a juicy texture to the sandwich and blended well with the Hot Honey Mustard and Crispy Onion Straws. f) Lastly, the toasted potato bun is a stand-alone by itself and was toasted to perfection and gripped the sandwich perfectly. Very diverse menu and open parking lot are just the beginnings of this very good Boxcar. Down stairs there's Hop City, but if you go to the restaurant when Hop City is closed you miss out on some of the cooler drinks. The other minor drawback is the filthy ladies room (men's apparently was clean). Josh and Robbie took excellent care of us. We had the chicken with Mac and Cheese burger (average), lamb pops with fig and feta with a side of collard greens(hella yummy). OMG! This place hands down was sooooo good! We went here on Saturday afternoon for an alumni event after a nice stroll on the Beltline. The chef did us right! I hear he is a black chef also. I found my favorite beer of all time "HONEY BROWN!" I was able to secure the bag put it in the car go upstairs to the Boxcar and have a great dinner with hubby! So, it was fairly busy bit it was worth the wait. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated and our booth was perf! The hostess and the service was great. Our waitress greeted us and we ordered! I stuck with water, which they bring a cute bottle for the table. I ordered the Livingston burger-medium well and sweet potato fries. The Livingston-Dry-aged local beef patty, BXCR burger rub, Tillamook cheddar, tomato conserva, sweet & spicy pickle slices, bibb lettuce, onion, tomato, toasted potato bun. $13 and the sweet potato fries were $6. Nice vibe! Located in the revitalized historical West End of ATL. The area felt like an old warehouse district converted into food and entertainment. Large Restaurant and the hostess and service were great. Quick lunch but I am sure this spot has a nice evening vibe. Unique cocktails. Loved my key lime Margarita. Food a hair pricey for portions . Bathrooms are outside the restaurant in a shared hallway which is a little weird, but like I said the building was a converted warehouse backed up to railroad tracks. read more

But a few minutes later, the hostess came over to tell us we couldn't sit there as we didn't come to her. Second time here and each time has always been a good experience. Great location... along the Beltline, with plenty of parking, also several other cool spots to try out. Now let's get into the inside, high industrial ceiling and a rustic feel, in a modern way. We sat at the bar and it was a last minute outing but we pulled up on there happy hour, which was cool. Off that menu I tried the Mac&Cheese bites($9)...so so good to me and the Boom Boom shrimp($9)...they where just ok, the dipping sauce was the savior. I did the Margarita flight and I walked away very satisfied... Strawberry, Original, and Hibiscus. Rating 1st Original, 2nd Hibiscus, 3rd Strawberry(sweet). I was in the area with my family and we had some time to kill before heading to the airport for a flight. I checked Yelp and there seemed to be a serious shortage of options with at least 4 stars, so there was not a lot of competition. Boxcar was the closest thing with a good reputation, which is how we ended up there. Boxcar has a nice vibe to it. I liked the hipster kind of ambiance and overall look of the place. Prices were a little steep but not totally unreasonable. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of fries. My daughter ordered the mac and cheese side with another side of fries. My mom ordered a fish sandwich with fries on the side. Everyone was happy with the taste of their food. The fries were surprisingly good (I am a bit of a snob when it comes to restaurant fries). My mom loved her sandwich as I did mine and my daughter was instantly obsessed with the mac and cheese. Service was decent. It wasn't the best service but wasn't terrible either. The food did take a good bit to come out but that wasn't the server's fault and the place was pretty crowded at the time, so I'm sure that didn't help. Overall, I enjoyed Boxcar and would certainly return if I were in the area again, but I would not necessarily go out of my way to come back. read more
