Great experience had at this place! The staff was very helpful and they're on top of everything. They know how to take care of their clients. I was definitely diggin the atmosphere. They serve lunch in the courtyard, which is pretty cool. It was raining and windy, but they provide blankets to place over your legs and the heat lamps work very well. I have been to Ponte several times and have several friends that are members here. Here are my thoughts about this place: Pros: - The facility is really nice. It's one of the larger ones in the valley and it's very well done. - The restaurant has great food. This is probably the top restaurant for lunch in wine country. - The grounds are very nice with good landscaping and different places to relax. - The hotel they just built is super nice. The cellar lounge under the hotel is great and open late. Cons: - The wine is not very good. I really just don't understand how a place like this can have bad wine. They have enough money to build a hotel, but they can't get their wines in shape? - Very Crowded on the weekends - The wait in the restaurant can be ridiculous at times...both to get seated and to get your food. One my last visit, lunch took 2.5 hrs. - Closes at 5:00pm. - The wine club is member plus one. Nothing special here. - They will not pour members a glass of wine in the tasting room. They will make you come back 6 times for 1 oz pours. That's strange and clogs up the tasting room for no reason. To my knowledge, only Weins and Ponte do this. Everyone else will pour the members a glass so you can go find a spot and relax. I've been living near Temecula wine country for a little over two years, and have had the opportunity to try most of the wineries in the Temecula valley. Ponte has a great facility with good food, good views, plenty of people watching. To me, the wines range from mehh to yick. This is another one of those places where the food is much better than the wine. My advice would be to go for lunch and skip the wines. My husband took me to a nice dinner tonight. His Mothers day gift to me. We went to Ponte. Although I typically enjoy this winery very much this time not so much the cheese and tomato appetizer was bland and needed salt. There were only 4 small slivers of tomato. Hardly enough for each slice of toast. We added the bread onion sauce and it helped. My lamb was suppose to he medium rare and it was way over cooked. The risotto was also a little to much bite. My husband said his tri tip was chewy and not easy to eat. I ended up taking mine back for the lobster and shrimp lasagna and that was actually HOT(temp) and very good! It was one of the specials of the night. I will be back since I do like the atmosphere and the waitress was very accommodating. read more

NIGHTMARE IN THE VINEYARDS We used to be members of the wine club a couple years ago and always consider this one of the better restaurants in town. This month my wife had her sister and a friend visit from Kansas City for several days, we thought we would treat them to dinner at one of the better wineries here and Temecula. We made reservations at Ponte Vineyard. We arrived at Ponte September 3, 2016 for 7 o'clock reservation. We are surprised to find the gift store front door locked. We had to wander around looking for another entrance to the restaurant which we found. After being seated the service person came to the table and asked if we wanted something to drink? I said my wife and I would like a Chardonnay to which I was promptly told they didn't have any Chardonnay. I said that's hard to believe, you're a winery and you don't have any Chardonnay wine. We ordered iced tea and the other two gals ordered red wine. The service person came back and asked if we like an appetizer she said a special was gazpacho soup, since that something my wife and I love we decided to order it the other two persons passed on appetizers. In short while the wait person came to the table with two bowls of gazpacho that we couldn't recognize it was some kind of green slime and tasted strong of mint. We didn't eat it. We tried not to make too much of a fuss because of our guests. The wait person came back and asked if we were ready to order our entrée? The two gals ordered the scallops with vegetables my wife ordered Paella and I ordered the grilled salmon with roast corn. The two scallop dinners were overcooked with burnt vegetables, my wife's Paella look like something that came from dumpster diving. My salmon was a 1" x 2 and half inch piece of salmon on a mound of something black I couldn't identify. It also was slimy and the dinner included about four kernels of corn. Needless to say there was almost total silence while we picked at our meals, my wife and I wondering what had happened to Ponte's wonderful meals of the past? Because of our guests we were embarrassed and just wanted to get out of there. Yes we paid the bill. I guess it's not hard to hire an incompetent chef which is what Ponte must've done since the quality that we received was so disastrous and could be considered a nightmare. When I was out visiting friends in San Diego I had a chance to meet up with some great friends who live in Temecula. I'm so glad they brought me to Ponte Winery. I'm jealous that they are members and I have to live clear across the country in Virginia because I too would be a member if I lived in the area. We came on a Sunday night so we went to the cellar and ate dinner and shared a bottle of wine. The cellar was in the bottom of the hotel at Ponte and has fun speakeasy feel. The food was amazing I had the Salmon BLT sandwich which I would recommend. They were having live music which led to some great people watching. This was the 3rd stop on our Grapeline tour. Stops 3 and 4 were more freeform, as in we had two choices for each of the stops, and our guide left the choice to us. However, it was quite warm that day and we told him we might like an inside tasting room, as both choices for our third stop had outside tasting areas. Our guide took us here - as Ponte is located inside in an air conditioned environment. Our opinion of Ponte? "Eeeeeeeehhhhhhhh"... The place was okay. Nothing special. The inside tasting room area was large and airy; but most of the floorspace was taken up with things to sell: plates, cups, books on wine and wine country, Tuscan inspired table settings and the like - nothing too special. The tasting itself was so-so. The winebar area was quite sizeable, but trying to squeeze into the bar area for a tasting was a bit of a challenge. There were little groups of people there chatting and not doing any tasting, and when memers of our group tried to politely squeeze in for tastes - we got dirty looks! Perhaps they were regulars...I dunno. Anyway; the wines were fair. Nothing spectacular. There was one called their "Juliet" which my wife liked, so I bought a bottle of it. And their "Super Tuscan" was actually quite smooth and drinkable. The place pretty smacked of an impersonal, corporate winery. They were pretty pushy about joining their wineclub. They have a restaurant called The Smokehouse which I've heard good things about - but we were there for the tour. I dunno. We didn't hate the place. We just weren't thrilled with it. Among all the cool (and not so cool) wineries in the area, this is probably my favorite one. I highly recommend their red wines- WOW- especially their Zinfandel Port (SIGH) unfortunately it's oh soooo expensive to buy, unless you got a huge wine budget... I have considered multiple times becoming a member here, and I am still thinking about it. Only reason why I didn't is because I am too busy to visit, even if it's so close to LA. Definitely try their restaurant (the Smokehouse)- modern American cuisine with a slight Italian bias. Great taste, impressive quality. Price is not too bad- not cheap but worth it. Please support the local wineries of Southern California by visiting the Temecula wine region. Note: all wineries close at 5 PM even in summer (when the sun sets way past 9 PM)... pity! Definitely a must if you visit Temecula for wine tasting, its 20 bucks for 6 tastings which is a bit pricier compared to the other wineries around but ends up being well worth price of admission. Amazingly friendly staff very welcome to chatting and questions and they provide these yummy buttery pita chips in baskets around the tasting area. The great thing about ponte is that they don't use shot spouts to pout your wine they just eyeball you a hefty amount. ;D Beautiful scenery, its very nice to just grab your tasting and just walk around and enjoy the vineyard. They restaurant was great too was kind of hot but they have covered patios with misting systems to cool you off. Parking can be a bit rough due to popularity but not really a complaint and still one of my most favorite wineries in Temecula. I went here with my boyfriends family last saturday along with another winery in Temecula. Being from northern california, I wasn't sure how the wineries would compare. However, I thought Ponte was absolutely fantastic! My boyfriend's friend was a wine club member so we got in for $9.60 each, not too shabby, I honestly would pay the full $12 anyway. There's a good selection of sweet and dry wine which I thought was great because I seem to be in the minority that prefers sweet wines. The grounds were beautiful, and the staff was great for the most part; quite a few people with us hardly ever got asked for their cards to mark, but I seemed to be the unlucky one to always get checked. My favorites were the Beverino, a sweet red wine, and the port, which they served with delicious chocolate. I also enjoyed the pita chips they had at the tables, obviously it doesn't take too much to impress me in the food department. CROWDED! Make a group rezo, or come on a weekday, or skip this one altogether. I came on Mother's Day without a group and it was just too hectic. I guess they were having a special brunch event in the restaurant, which we didn't know about. Oops. Other reviewers are spot on: the staff are very friendly, and the tasting room is lovely and actually quite large. But the crowds! The line was at least three deep across the bar, and just didn't lend itself to a leisurely tasting session. It was pretty scene-y, and felt more like Napa than Temecula. Which is fine, but it's not Napa. For those familiar with Santa Barbara wine country, Ponte is to Temecula wine country what Firestone is to Santa Barbara. Probably the best for a scenic wedding reception setting, but also really touristy to the point that it interferes with the tasting experience. Capish? At $15 for six tastings (someone else said $12--maybe that's weekday pricing?), its higher than average in the area. Bottles range between $19 for a zin to $46 for the reserve port, most are in the $29 to $35 range. For the great ambiance and good wine, I'd say its a good value. Overall, Ponte is a must-stop on any Temecula wine tasting itinerary. Just resist joining the wine club--there are better options to commit to for the long haul. read more

From the time we checked in until we checked out, everyone at Ponte were awesome. Madeline was especially great, giving us a glass of rose when we checked in. We sent her an email asking for a bottle of that same rose, and within in 2 minutes, we get a knock on our door.... Bottle of rose delivered! Amazing! Jason was helpful and friendly with our luggage, always asking if we needed any assistance. Al was so nice, he offered to take my sister on a tour of the place when she asked for directions. Al was also very fast when we asked for necessities. Overall service is a 10! We had breakfast at Ponte and the food is spectacular! We always loved the food at Ponte but unfortunately this time we didn't get a chance to ea at their outdoor restaurant. I love this winery. Their wine list is very impressive. They have sweet wines, which is hard to find. I'm a wine club member and I get shipments every other month. If you like red wine, try their Spuer T, Beverino and Cabernet Sauvignon. For white wine lovers, try the Graciela and Fiorella. Their sweet wines are very good, too. Ponte Winery really deserves 4 1/2 stars. A few friends and I went and enjoyed all of the wines in the tasting that we did. I prefer reds and loved the tempranillo. The tasting is priced averagely with the other wineries in the area, but you can tell the quality of the wines are a level above the majority of the others. They also provide free bowls of pita chips, which happen to go fabulously with the reds. It was great to have a snack to keep our dunkness at bay. The grounds are beautiful and provide access to walk amongst the vineyards. The different types of grape are labeled for the type of wine they will one day produce. It just so happened that the grapes were ripe when we went and we must have spent at least 30-40 minutes sampling the different types. Bonus: The AC in the tasting room is STRONG. We went on one of the hottest days of the year and were so happy to be cool. Definitely put Ponte on your list of Temecula wineries to try! read more

This would be a five star review if it wasn't for the fact that this place is always so damn crowded. Of course it's crowded for a reason - their wine is fantastic. I was a member here about 4 years ago and cancelled my membership because even the wine club member's section was packed. Then, after I go back I wonder why I cancelled since their wine is so good. They specialize in Italian varietals - and they have a ton of wines on the menu. Probably the biggest selection in the valley. Everything is good. The restaurant is okay - pretty pricey and the food is average. They are building a hotel and I hope they expand or add another tasting room. If I can get some space, I would consider rejoining the wine club in a heart beat. read more

We were in town for a friend's wedding. The entire wedding party congregated at Ponte since it's kind in the heart of the region. This is a review for Ponte Wine tasting only - not the restaurant or the hotel (be careful since reviews for these are interspersed). Ponte Winery has a beautiful tasting room with a lot of open space. It's absolutely gorgeous. The wines, however, are a different story. First, you pay $20 to taste 6 wines. That's crazy!!! I mean that's Napa/Sonoma prices....and at least you're guaranteed a solid flight of wine when you fork over your money. The weekday price is $10 which is a fair price given the quality of the wine. I believe this should be the normal tasting fee, but the place was packed (on a Saturday), so I suppose supply and demand was in balance. I wasn't a fan of any menu wines. The two whites I tried had an amazing bouquet, but bland taste (with a very acidic finish). The reds were all very similar and were not impressive (harsh tannin finishes in general). My two favorite wines were the blends, I believe they were called the "angry wife" (there's a white and a red). These wines are off menu, so you'll need to ask for them by name. The staff was friendly-ish and would recite the same intro to every wine but couldn't provide more information when pressed. Ponte does offer ample parking, which was appreciated. Overall, this is a large beautiful winery. If you're looking to get drunk with friends and want some ambiance, nice bathrooms, and DirecTV, this is your place!!! If you care about tasting decent wine, I would encourage you to do some research and find a different winery. In general I wasn't wow'd by my wine tasting experience in Temecula. It's better than wine tasting in North Carolina, but not better than the other major wine regions in CA (Santa Ynez Valley, Paso/Templeton, Monterey County, Napa/Sonoma). I'm not a wine snob, but I know enough to understand what's good and what's not. We only hit a couple of wineries and I'm sure there are some great places in Temecula - I hope to return again soon to find them. read more

First visit to celebrate a Birthday. Opted for a weekend night to enjoy the live musician in the outdoor dining area. The food was very good along with service. For us gals that would otherwise have to put our purses on the ground they actually provide a lovely basket to place it in next to your seat. Who thinks of that detail? Ponte does :) I have one negative experience to share that unnerved me so much I considered leaving. They have a building near the dining area which was reserved for a wedding reception. For whatever reason when we arrived and for the next THIRTY minutes this party had some sort of tribal drumming group that was so loud and distracting that not only could we not hear each other or the waiter but the musician we came to hear couldn't play until they finished. Although I contacted the restaurant manager asking when they expected the NOISE to end and explaining to her they should disclose this type of possible activity when we made a reservation, her response was pretty much just passing the blame, "Another department is in charge of that so we don't know what's going on" OH YEA-AAH, fine example of customer NO service. My suggestion, call ahead and specifically ask for whatever dept. is in charge of special events that could detract from the relaxing or for you love birds, the romantic evening you may be expecting. read more

CAKE CHARGE IN RESTAURANT This review concerns the restaurant at Ponte. Six of us planned a birthday lunch at Ponte. When we asked about bringing a cake, we were told there would be a $4/person charge. When we told them it was cupcakes, they said it would be $2/person for serving and cleaning up. The fact of the matter is that there is no serving or clean-up with cupcakes. It's not about the cost of the cupcakes; it's the principle that is at issue. We spent $200 on lunch, and in my opinion, that is a large enough amount that we should not have been charged but Ponte should welcome customers who want to enjoy birthdays and other celebrations at the winery. We felt nickled-and-dimed for such a small request. We called several other wineries in the valley with restaurants and none of them charged for a cake. In my opinion, when you are in the hospitality industry, you work hard to create good relationships with your customers and try to provide a positive environment. There are six of us that no longer have that feeling about Ponte. We are members of five wineries in the Temecula area. My favorite winery is Europa Villages because every server acknowledges your presence and goes out of their way to be accommodating. While there are quite a few wineries in the valley with similar quality wines, I will never leave Europa Villages because of this fact. I will never join Ponte because they have never given me a personal feeling that they care that I am there. We have often taken guests to Ponte restaurant when they visit from out of town, but I will be hesitant about whether we will do this again. read more

Beautiful winery in Temecula. Been here for lunch twice. They do a great job catering to large parties. The service is exceptional with an abundance of courtesy. First time I had the margherita pizza... wasn't so great. Lacked sauce, therefore lacked flavor. I felt like I was eating tomatoes on bread. My second visit, we ordered a rib eye steak (medium rare). The steak was well prepared and seasoned well. However, I was disappointed in the thickness of the steak... about half an inch thick! Nonetheless, I enjoyed the meal. I tell ya... Nothing is better than drinking wine at 10am in the morning! JK Got here super early and me and the BF were one of the few people here for wine tasting. Natacia helped us out with the tasting and she is awesome! She was super friendly, very knowledgeable about wines which totally helped us wine newbies out since we had no idea what we were drinking half the time, and she was super nice in recommending us to other wineries that we should try out as well. As for the wines, it was 2-for-1 $15 for 6 tastings and they were very generous tasting portions. Not being a huge wine person, I found myself almost liking some of them with the help of Natacia's recommendations. I told her what I liked (anything sweet) and she helped us choose the ones that best fits our pallet. And we got to keep the glass after we were done! Woohoo! Also inside the tasting room, there were little trinkets where each table had a theme. Though too pricey for my taste, it was fun to browse. Overall, I really like this winery. I've been here serveral times and it's a bit of a mixed bag. There were somethings I liked and some things I really didin't....sadly one of the things I really didn't like was the wine. I first came across Ponte when my buddy got married here and subsquently got a membership so we'd come here once a month or so. First off the location is gorgous. It is beautifully landscaped and construted and as a backdrop for a wedding or an afternoon of wine tasting is perfect. Also located on grounds is a very good restaurant. I've eaten there several times it it has consistantly been in the 4 range. The complimentary bread with the cilantro oil dip is AMAZING and is also sold at the gift shop too. There are several wine tasting locations. There are two long bars up front, which get really crowded and a more hidden bar near the back (where I perfered to go). As far as the wines go, they really weren't to my taste. There were a lot of happy customers there, mostly because I think their wines are better for tasting than they are for drinking. Their white wines in general like their Juliet or Isabel were way too sweet for my taste. They are kind of nice to sip but trying to have more than half a glass of them kind of made me nausious. The same can be said for a lot of their reds as well. I found them to be a little too bold, either overly oaky or overly floral. The one exception was their Moscato which was balanced well and very refreshing. Overall, it is a great place to go (especially if you are touring the other vineyards in the area) but it doesn't blow me away. The tastes and aroma of the wines at Ponte can be classified as the stereotypical bastardized California wines you would normally see for $4.99 in the alcohol section of the super market only priced at $14.99+. In general the wines had a high vinegar smell and super lousy finish. The ports were very, very sweet to the point of me almost developing diabetes right there. Overall: a set of average wines. They needed to sit for a couple more years at least. The only saving grace was their Malbec and Moscato (which were off the wine menu). The price isn't bad at $20 bucks for 6 tastings (and you can keep the glass) but don't expect the highest class in flavor. read more
