Came here on the recommendation of a friend who visited... it's a very cute restaurant in Paris. We came here with reservations through Fork, which allowed for 40% off the a la carte menu. AMBIANCE Very cute apple theme downstairs - I got excited entering with the apple decorations, but was a little disappointed at the decor upstairs. It was very simple, a little too formal upstairs. In fact I felt severely under dressed upon the arrival of other guests. FOOD We were given a basket of bread, but no buerre? Made the bread really dry... I wonder if it's an American thing to like bread and butter? Most all things on the menu have a little apple in them - we started off with trying a salad and a salmon + avocado crostini. The salad was very bland, even with the fresh cut apples - they gave a nice crisp with the radish, but there was no flavor. The crostini was OK - very small but flavorful with the bits of salmon roe. All four of us ordered the pan-fried monkfish served with zucchini and cream of chorizo & Basque cider. The fish was perfectly cooked and flavorful - I savored every bite of my small entree. Their fresh apple juice was also very good and frothy - very different from other fresh apple juice I've had. If you're not familiar with restaurants in France, they generally charge for water... though they give you some nice Evian spring water. SERVICE Service was friendly and helpful - there was some language barrier in ordering, but they were polite as I stumbled through my terrible high school French and ordered for my family. OVERALL I wasn't too impressed - our entrees were delicious, but the starters were lackluster and definitely not worth what we were paid for. It was a bit unsatisfying and afterwards, I knew we were still hungry. Even with the 40% through Fork, we ended up paying over 200 euros for 4 entrees, 2 starters, 2 apple juices, a bottle of spring water, and a glass of rose... not worth it in my book. Their menu seems to rotate fairly often, so I'd be willing to try again as the selection when we visited was not that impressive. Pomze was just around the corner of my hotel in Paris and the apple infusion theme seemed too good to pass up. The service was top notch and very friendly. During my short visit to Paris, I managed to dine at Pomze twice. The duck breast is fantastic (best duck I had during my stay in France) and seemed to be a popular dish. For dessert, the cheesecake was my favorite. On a side note, I had forgotten my DSLR lens cap at the restaurant on my last visit and had already traveled onto Germany. One afternoon, my coworker was approached by one of the waitresses a block down the street from Pomze. She recognized him from our visits as he randomly walked by and ran down the street to return my lens cap. That's service! read more

Apple-themed restaurant: hmm, intriguing. We opted to go here instead of the cafe in Hôtel Marcel Dassault since Pomze sounded unique. We were guided around the side of the main entrance to take an elevator upstairs as my dad was in a wheelchair, and we received menus that either had English or Japanese translations of the original French text. Not being fluent in Japanese, I looked over my brother's shoulder to figure out what to order. At lunch, Pomze offers a fixed price (25 Euros), two-course (either starter+main or main+dessert) offering out of a short list of options. We went with two sets starter+main and two of main+dessert, making sure to order all four main options among us. (You can also opt for three courses, which is offered at both lunch and dinner for 30 Euros.) We also ordered two portions of the cider tasting (14 Euros each), the different types of which were served only after we had finished the previous one (as opposed to having all three appear at the same time in a flight). The apple butter that came with the bottomless bread was addictive: my dad asked for more so that he could eat it without bread! The two starters were grilled mackerel fillets with a Granny Smith ravigote sauce and prawns in cauliflower soup with Granny Smith apples. Both were great at warming us up for the rest of the meal. The prawns were especially delicious as the flavor was intense, and they were crispy on the outside and very fresh. My mom wished we ordered all four of the starters. The four mains were all enjoyable: salmon, squid, duck breast, and lamb stew. Even my dad, who usually can't stand eating lamb, very much wanted to eat more lamb stew. The surrounding garnish and sauce were cleared out and mopped up with bread. We spent an inordinate amount of time admiring the various-colored young carrots that came on the side and the extremely sweet corn that came with the duck breast. To wrap it all up, the apple and chocolate fondant with stracciatella ice cream and redberries and caramelized apple cheesecake were very nicely naughty (not too sweet). Our three ciders had come out by then, the last one being the sweetest to compete with the desserts. We went back downstairs to see what the grocery part was about since it's listed on Yelp, but we only saw a very small area that was populated with what looked to be some jams and cider. I took a photo of the map they had on the wall with the various regions of France and the varieties of apples that originate from them but was quickly asked not to reprint the photo since it is licensed. The verdict: Pomze is quite satisfying and won't break the bank, especially given its vicinity to the expensive, touristy area of Champs Élysées. The service is pretty good to boot. read more

CUTEST PLACE EVER! I miss this restaurant so much. After looking hours for a place to eat that's either not too crappy and cheap or too painfully expensive, we found Pomze. Cute, homey like venue with live piano music in the background. This place is all about incorporating surprises in their dishes especially with apples. I thought they succeeded in mixing various flavors with a hint of Apple! We got the fixed price of 3 orders on the menu (1 appetizer, entree, and dessert). I ordered the scallop appetizer, beef, and raspberry cheesecake. Not gonna describe the taste because there's no point but they were A+!!!!! (see pictures for more deets). I loved our servers. The foie gras as an appetizer- this was the best dish of the House. Had great flavor with a apple jam- delicious. They gave us an amuse bouche of apple slice, blue cheese and scallion on a crostini- good but apple wasn't crisp, which is sad being apple is the signature note of each dish or so I thought. I had the duck and squash as a main, which was disappointing, it had a thyme cream sauce which I've only had with fish and really ruined the dish for me. The duck was a little tough even at medium rare...didn't love. There was no one there on a Friday night..maybe 3 other people but the service was good. read more

This is a restaurant I have been meaning to try for a very long time. Everyone I know who has been there have nothing but great things to say. This past Monday, we went for dinner and I was not disappointed. It has a very unassuming exterior which changes completely when you put your foot in the door. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by the gentleman by the bar then taken upstairs to our table where our friends were waiting. The downstairs area looks like a great spot to have a drink from their extensive selection of ciders. In case you are not aware, everything at Pomze is related to apples ! We ordered appetizers which were all visually enticing with a recommendation by our server of a cider that would be good as an apero. The knowledge our server had of ciders was superb and after our first query for the apero, we had no hesitation to ask her for other recommendations. The main courses where exactly as described and all unusual with their use of apples in the theme. The restaurant has a charming layout which would make it very good for private functions or parties as there are a number of different rooms which can make for a more intimate atmosphere should you wish to celebrate something as a small group. We were intrigued by Pomze after walking past one evening. Apples, apples everywhere! It's got a hip look and an enticing menu, so we made plans to come back for lunch another day. First of all, let's get one thing straight. My wife is not Japanese, and she speaks French. Giving her a Japanese menu without even asking where we are from is just ridiculous. Next time, start with a French menu and see how the customers react! The service for the entire lunch was equally disinterested, and we only got a smile when it was time to pay the bill. I'm not so naive as to take unfriendly service in Paris too seriously, but... ... service should match the quality of the food. And the food here is great. My wife had the duck breast, which seems to be a popular choice. It was cooked wonderfully and presented with care. I ordered the ribs starter, which I was warned was just a starter and therefore "very light" for a lunch. How wrong that was. It was easily enough for me for a main course, and the meat literally fell off the bone. It was presented on a slate with all manner of embellishments, but the whole thing came together nicely. I paired it with a nice glass of dry cider. Lovely. Of note: this review concerns the upstairs dining room. Downstairs they serve an apple salad that looks fantastic, and that's what we'll try next time. Four stars for the food, and two for the service (but it's a solid four for the food). read more

Thank you Yelp, for helping us find Pomze. This place was LOVELY and was the perfect choice for our farewell dinner in Paris. We did make a reservation using their email system, which worked fine. Ambiance- classy, chic, slightly upscale, with a cute little storefront. We went on a Thursday night and there was a pianist playing during our dinner- he was amazing and set the mood for a romantic atmosphere. Service- unobtrusive, attentive, spoke English if you wanted, but also would humor my (poor) French. Food- this was the star. We both did the 35 euro tasting menu. It started with an amazing pumpkin-hazelnutty amuse, which we both enjoyed. I ordered the feta-stuffed Piquillo peppers- this was a beautiful appetizer with lightly fluffy feta interspersed with the peppers which were stuffed with feta chopped with walnuts and apples- tasty, light, and beautiful to look at. My fiance had the avocado gazpacho with shrimp- it was awesome and refreshing- the avocado added the perfect touch. For entrees, he had the white tuna and I had the black risotto- both outstanding, and again, light. We finished off our meal with a cheese plate (for a 4 euro surcharge but so worth it)- some really nice stinky cheeses as well as a mild chevre standby, and a layered cream/fruit dessert. We did the unique cider pairing, which was lovely. My only complaint would be that the ciders did not always arrive with each course but we waited a few minutes for one of the pairings- nothing major, since we were enjoying our food so much and hardly noticed. Forget about the ridiculous value (which it is). This place is just ridiculously good and appropriate for a special occasion or just a normal delicious dinner. read more

Pomze - apples. The dishes here seem to have an apple twist and the food was pretty solid. We stumbled upon it after not having a restaurant plan and turning to yelp to save the day. I had the duck and it was a great cut...not gamey at all. I think the overall quaintness of the restaurant added a little bit to the experience. I was on the fence as to my own personal experience, but my family loved the food they had. The location is in a quieter area of the city and the streets were pretty dead at 9 pm on a Saturday night. Maybe I have spent too much time in New York, but this seemed like a very isolated part of the city; especially in terms of where other lively dinner spots are located (just as a warning if you are looking to continue the party afterwards). read more

This is a really great find. All the dishes here try to incorporate some element of apple in its recipe hence its name. They offer a huge range of salads at lunchtime served in humungous steel bowls. For 17 euros you can choose a salad and a drink (cider or apple juice). They offer 6 pure apple juices too. The one I tasted was the perfect balance of tart and sweetness. A wonderful change after days of rich French meals. The only slight negative was that it was pretty stuffy in the downstairs dining area. read more

This restaurant was the highlight of my visit. It all started with the sampling of most delicious Apple Ciders, I tried six and found my favorite. My meal started with a beautiful presented Halumi fried cheese sitting on a bed of peaches crowned with Watercress sprinkled with a delicious dressing. I then enjoyed a perfectly cooked Filet Mignon with a side of sweet potatoes and a Chimichuri sauce that was flavored with yes Apple essence that made it delectable. I opted to get 2 appetizers instead of a main dish (for vegetarian reasons) and my goat cheese salad and butternut squash soup, both with apple accents, were very good. The bread with the almond butter was great too. One of the main dishes someone got at our table was beef, which was requested to be cooked medium. When it got to him, it was rare and when we asked for more butter for the bread, we were told they ran out. The sponge cake I got for dessert was insanely boozed up with their apple rum, but it was so much I couldn't eat it (although the caramel ice cream that came with it was awesome). This was my first dinner in Paris, and I sure picked well. The name is a play on pomme, the French word for apple, and the menu revolves around that ingredient. I started with the Hay-smoked salmon with cream of horseradish, kumqua ts and autumn pickles. The taste of the salmon I ate in Europe seemed different than salmon we get here in the States, but it was still good. I wish I had tasted the horseradish a little more though. Main course, I got the John Dory with mousse of Haddock and tart apple and Daishi stock. The fish was cooked perfectly, melting like butter when I dug a fork into it. I am normally a vegetarian, but this was well worth the "cheat". For dessert, I got the apple filled chocolate fondant with tonka bean ice cream. Yum! Along with the food, I got a pairing of 3 ciders, which I also really liked, and it was interesting to have French cider for the first time. As others have noted, service was good and unobtrusive. The food is great. The service is bad. On top of the fact that service was very slow, when it was time to pay he bill, the waiter wouldn't accept a bill of 500 euros. We told them that was absolutely ridiculous to not accept their country's currency. The waiter told us that he was going to call the cops if we didn't pay with a credit card!!!!. To us it just became a principle at that point and we stuck it out. Clearly that was some sort of a scam they run at that place on the tourists, since he never called cops and accepted our money in the end. What a friking headache. Don't bother. Just finished a fabulous dinner here. Luckily the bartender was also our waiter, could not have asked for a more lovely person. I started with an apple martini, which was light and crisp not that artificial sweet junk that most serve. We did the dinner menu, with a starter, entree and dessert. Everything was delicious. Their meat was perfectly cooked and I finally had excellent duck. It is worth every penny and very affordable for the quality and service. I saw some great reviews and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. This was the best meal I had in Paris this week, and definitely the best value you can find. Staff was warm, and nice, and the food was inspiring. From the scampi ravioli, to the filet of beef with foi gras, to the amazing tart tatin, there was not a misstep in the whole meal. Great concept for a Parisian restaurant-reflected by the name Pomze, a play on the word pommes, or apples in French. Apples and bottles of cider decorate the multi-level space, while the main dining area felt warm and cosy. We opted for the 3-course fixed menu, a great dining value at 35€ and went with the cider pairings as well. The wait staff was very attentive and even told us they could offer a kid's selection (smaller portions of the plat and dessert, along with apple cider) also fairly priced. Entrées (starters) included sweet potato soup (slightly sweet and thick with some diced apples, crème fraîche and thin sweet potato chips) and the eel tempura. Plats (mains) included pollack, duck and filet of beef. All served with apples incorporated in a minor way. Dessert was delicious and the Mont Blanc and molten chocolate cake were heavenly. Final pairing of pear cider worked well with both. Great place for a date or to bring friends from out of town. Will return! read more

What a fabulously simple yet delicious concept - everything to do with Apples! And everything was delicious! I loved their choice of French and very delicious ciders! Unique and perfect combination to the meal. They even have cider tasting menu! Must try! Too bad I came on a night when the piano wasn't played, I probably wouldn't want to leave the place otherwise. Prices are fully reasonable for the experience and taste! I had: Tartare of razor clams and crab with wasabi flavor and combawa zests (17€) - beautiful presentation and very delicious appetiser, I very much recommend it. For Main I had Veal kidneys served with pea pods, pan-fried Ariane and Japanese mustard sauce (32€) - For those that like veal kidneys you'll enjoy this, this was a very tender dish with plentiful of kidneys. And finished with Apricot & apple mille-feuille (the real one) served with tonka bean ice cream (12€) - light and delicious, and beautifully presented on the plate! Thanks to other Yelpers we had a wonderful dinner at Ponze. Close to our hotel (Le Lavoiser, great place) Ponze's innovative and well priced (35€) dinner is among the best we have eaten anywhere. We were served a delightfully refreshing sparkling cider upon arriving. A small, complimentary amuse bouche followed. Our entree, a creamy green gazpacho had a wonderful texture and taste. Our main courses were equally tasty and pretty. Dessert was even prettier,, tastier and more creative! Accompanying this fabulous meal was a pianist. We were there on a weeknight and we were early (arrived at 730) but by the time we left every table was occupied. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation! read more

The food and the service were amazing! Aside from that, the male staff is very good looking...bonus. I'm someone with high standards and this totally exceeded our expectations. Don't be fooled by the exterior or when you first walk in to the bar area. There's an upstairs with a dining area. It's very upscale and yet you can wear casual clothes. They are very accommodating there, we didn't have a reservation. No problem. I asked for a salad with dinner, the waiter said he'd make sure I had one. The wine, dinner and desert were all 5 star! By pure luck on the evening of our anniversary while visiting Paris with our children (9 & 13) we found this lovely restaurant. We were looking for someplace with a good menu and a reasonable price and I believe Pomze far exceeded expectations on both of those dimensions. We were a bit taken aback at first as we were downstairs for over 5 minutes calling and looking for an employee at the bar and no one was to be found. Finally, someone came down from upstairs and guided us into a lovely little dining room with a few fun alcoves and side rooms. While we were seated in the main area it still seemed private and set a perfect mood. Having just gotten in from Normandy a few days prior, we were excited to find a restaurant specializing on the use of apples from drink to dessert. The food was inventive and very tasteful pushing our palettes far beyond the usual expectations of the fruit. The service was thoughtful, a little slow but very courteous. Even though they never knew it was our 20th wedding anniversary, they made the night very memorable for us four slightly under dressed American tourists who will always remember the evening and a fantastic exploration of one of our favorite fruits! i had three courses for lunch. they were pretty *looking* but the flavors were not all there. maybe i chose badly because everyone seems to be obsessed with this place. the starter was goat cheese and toast with honey. there was no honey and nowhere near enough toast. half way through the dish i realized i was just eating spoonfuls of goat cheese cream. the main dish was salmon. it was not cooked in the middle but it was warm all over so it wasn't quite a tartare but it wasn't quite a pan seared salmon. the texture was very soft (way too soft and mushy) and i thought it was a sad way to prepare salmon. the apple tart was fine but i will not be dreaming about it. read more
